Chapter Thirteen Part Three- 10-33
10-33: Police code for officers down
August 14th 2019, 4:30 PM
Officer Klyde Hudson- ZPD Dispatcher, Ex S.W.A.T
The situation at the main police department of the Rainforest District was much more than severe, with Klyde Hudson being the only officer that wasn't sent out in response to the attack and the only officer who wasn't hurt at all. The wolf cowered behind the front desk as the phone rang almost continuously in front of him, with the radio in his hand as his fellow officers were in the squad room trying to recover, many of which urged him to go out there and try and do something, contact someone.
However despite being a police officer, the decently obese wolf knew he'd be dead in a second if he even tried that, he was absolutely terrified as well, having not expected to go up against bloodthirsty savages while on dispatch duty.
"It's not gonna work Klyde, you've said the same damn thing into the radio fifty times already" another officer, Officer Fangmyer, said next to the frustrated, terrified and physically unfit officer who replied angrily "look I'm tryin my best here! Alright?!" The tiger beside him sighed "really? Saying the same thing over and over into a radio that DOESN'T work? That's your best?" The wolf stopped for a moment and chose to ignore it, then repeated the same line he'd been shouting into the radio for over a day by now, the tiger began to walk away holding his head, when the response went through all the speakers in the department "this is Bravo Six actual, 10-4, where are you?" The wolf almost lunged to the radio as all the officers began clamoring around the desk.
"The ZPD building in Mogwi, we need immediate backup NOW!" Hudson almost yelled into the radio, only for another voice to answer "that's only a few klicks from here sir" the wolf looked at his fellow officers as they all were standing on edge "alright we're headed there now, what's your status?" Looking around, Hudson grabbed the microphone again "multiple, almost all officers are hurt or missing, we need immediate medical attention" they all heard a sigh from the radio "don't have medical but we'll do the best we can" the voice on the other end said before Hudon spoke "anything'll do at this point, are you ZPD?" A different voice replied this time "no, SAS" the officers made many sounds of surprise as Hudson grabbed the mic tighter "SAS? Then stay on this frequency" before putting it down and pumping his pudgy fist into the air "see? What'd I tell you?" There were mixed answers from his colleagues but most were on the positive end before the rest of the officers returned to the infirmary.
As his colleagues went elsewhere, the fat wolf had gained at least some confidence that he could go out there, maybe for a minute or two but knowing that help was on it's way made him smile. The laying off of predator officers didn't affect him much financially, with most prey officers and civilians deeming him almost harmless due to his sheer size and immense weight, if he were to go savage he wouldn't be able to do much of anything, but he still took a lot of pride into his work, the entire department did rely on him at times after all.
As the overweight wolf pushed the door open a bit reluctantly, he looked around the police department's surroundings, knowing no doubt that he would run back and cower behind his desk at the drop of a hat but, in his situation he thought nobody could blame him.
As he slowly looked around, his eyes darted towards any source of movement, some trash blowing in the wind, birds flying about, but when he saw the outline of a figure he rushed towards the door, looking back before he closed the door. It was a bear with what appeared to be a gas mask on, followed by another wolf, then a bunny and fox, he raised his hands up "I'm Blue! Blue!" The bear took their mask off and approached him "we got your message" the wolf put them down slowly and gripped his chest "oh . . . Thank god" the bear pushed the front door open and walked in, he followed them of course.
As he followed the three mammals, a hand was put on his elbow "you alright mate? You looked like you were about to have a heart attack there" Hudson looked up at the taller timber wolf in front of him and nodded "no, no, I'm fine! I'm just a little . . . Terrified" the other wolf nodded "can't blame you" before walking in front of him and behind the bear, Hudson just joined his fellow officers as they all stood at attention.
After the grizzly bear, who was apparently a captain, debriefed them on the situation, he asked a question "how many of you are injured?" Every single mammal in the room raised their hand, Klyde stepped forward very timidly "I-Im not sir, I'm the officer who contacted you" the grizzly and the rest of the mammals beside him looked at the wolf "what kind of officer are you?" The wolf stepped forward even more "the dispatcher sir . . . I know how to fire a gun too" the grizzly seemed to laugh at this, however his colleagues spoke in agreement and his face changed "how long were you on the radio officer?" Judy Hopps asked, stepping forward "I sent that same message at least a few hundred times today, this is a dire situation Ma'am" again, his colleagues seemed to back this up.
"I'm useful I swear!" Hudson said a bit angrily "get me one of those radios and I can contact every ZPD department outside of the quarantine zone and give them a status" "he's also a decent shot!" An officer from the crowed spoke, only making the captain's face grow more in thought, he could see it "what kind of dispatcher is trained to fire a gun?" The wolf from earlier chimed in "I-I used to be in the S.W.A.T team . . . Back then I was much more uh . . . Skinnier" the wolf said slowly losing some confidence further down the sentence, "and you're the only fit officer in this department?" the captain asked very seriously "yes sir" the grizzly sighed, looking at Judy Hopps who looked like she was entirely ready to defend Hudson's statements "fine . . . If you have an armoury then grab a vest and a weapon, the rest of you will be evacuated by helicopter soon" the grizzly then raised his arm to his mouth and spoke into it "this is Bravo Six, we've found at least fifty officers, 49 are injured and need immediate evac" as Hudson walked over to the armoury, he wasn't sure why he got himself into joining the S.A.S in handling a terrorist attack but there wasn't any backing out now, everyone would be angry if he did that.
He did know how to fire weapons though, like the mp5 or Beretta M9, but putting on a bullet proof vest would prove trickey, he's kind of a big target considering how wide he's gotten over the past half decade. He went from a slim 105 pounds to an abysmal 600 pounds in the span of five years, he's amazed the ZPD hasn't suggested him to retire, but no matter how wide he is, he's still got those muscles from his S.W.A.T years as well as the shooting skills from that time. He also knew that all this weight would never go, he tried for two years but just gave up ironically on New Years Eve as his resolution.
After that he gained weight almost constantly no matter what he ate, having a leg injury like the one he had apparently did that to someone, at almost 600 pounds he didn't believe he would be able to even complete a CQB course without passing out from exhaustion but he wanted to do it one more time like the old days.
The overweight wolf grabbed a P90 from the gun rack as well as a Beretta M9 pistol, both were standard issue and had no attachments other than silencers, he knew how to properly load and operate each weapon to the same degree as when he was in the S.W.A.T team. After strapping on a bullet proof vest fit for a rhino, Hudson was locked and loaded in his opinion and as he put a serious look on his face.
However, he jumped when he heard a voice speak to him "you're really doing it then?" He turned around quickly to see the timber wolf from before, answering confidently "I am" the wolf walked up to Hudson and nodded "for a ZPD officer of your size, you've got guts" Hudson nodded "wouldn't be in the ZPD if I didn't" he said, holstering his weapon as the wolf in front of him stood there "Charlie Redbone, S.A.S" Hudson shook his head "Captain Klyde Hudson, S.W.A.T . . . Ex captain, that is" Charlie Redbone laughed at that "well captain, I hope you know what you're getting yourself into" Hudson had only a vague image of what was going on out there, he knew it had something to do with the water plant since he was the first one to get all the calls about savage attacks, but other then that, he knew nothing.
