Chapter Thirteen Part Four- Extraction Point
As the two wolves walked out of the armoury Hudson saw the grizzly from earlier, he looked at him with narrow eyes as they walked up to the group "he's ready, sir" the captain nodded "good, Redbone he's with you" Hudson looked at the wolf beside him as the five mammals walked out of the police station "so what's the objective?" He asked Redbone "the water plant, there may be insurgents there so stay frosty" captain Manson said with his gun up, this made Hudson remember something "that's where the first calls I got were from" Redbone looked at him "what else?" "The people who called said there were men with firearms and shots fired, whoever brought in you guys made the right call" the captain in front of the two nodded.
Klyde couldn't deny that he was very afraid, he had the unnerving feeling of being watched by something and his eyes were bouncing around at any movement or just in general, he knew it was likely nothing but saw something at the corner of his eye, it looked like some kind of bovine with an assault rifle "contact 3 o'clock, near that alley, military age male, no uniform" he whispered as the team looked at the insurgent "I see 'em, Redbone do you have a shot?" The captain said as he took cover "a clean one sir" Hudson knelt down as low as he could and aimed his gun at the suspect, narrowing his eyes "wait hold your fire, there could be multiple" as the team waited the bovine stood still and a sheep came into view.
There seemed to be only two, he saw Redbone look at the captain who nodded "I'll take the one on the left, you take the other" Hudson raised his gun and aimed down it's sights "copy" he heard the loud sound of a suppressor and fired a burst a split second after that, dropping the sheep on the right "clear" he said getting back up. The captain and the rest of the team looked at him impressed "good shots, let's move" as the five continued on, there was a long silence and Hudson was fully concentrated. He thought he was doing decently so far, knowing that his old senses from his S.W.A.T days would eventually come to him slowly, he himself was also impressed with how the group moved, especially with two of his fellow officers who to his knowledge, hadn't been in any operations with ZPD S.W.A.T teams.
As the team slowly moved on, the grizzly in the front informed them they were getting close to the water plant "keep your guns up boys, we're gettin close" "roger" officer Wilde spoke "I don't like this, from all of the calls at dispatch there was way too much gunfire for this only to be a ghost town" he said suspiciously as he checked their rear "he's right sir, it's too damn quiet" Redbone agreed, the captain in front only continued walking as he talked "stay close then, check windows, doors, everything" Hudson nodded as they continued.
After a half hour of constant paranoia, he finally saw the objective, Zootropolis Water Plant. Built sometime in the mid 60's, the plant served as the central purifier of water for the entire city and all districts, hundreds of people worked there and it was the last thing Hudson thought these terrorists would target, it had to be filled with Night Howlers and that "blue water" everyone was screaming about during the 911 calls he dispatched, even some officers turned savage.
He had a feeling about the Rainforest District being the next target though, the region had taken the anti predator sentiment and laws very lightly and was one of the very few places that still allowed predator housing, this was bound to change that. The team approached the main gate of the facility, it was scratched and bitten so much that the chain link fence was unrecognizable "stay on your toes captain" Redbone said, most likely to him as the captain in front stopped and looked at the two "Redbone, Hudson, watch our six" "rog" the wolf said taking out a bolt action and aiming it behind the group, Klyde did the same with his submachine gun.
As the team approached the door of the plant, all of them could see that the lights were still on through the windows, officer Wilde grabbed the door handle and attempted opening it but the door wouldn't budge, Hudson watched as the grizzly took a pry bar out from his back and forced the door open "this is 0-6 actual, entering the facility" he could hear another voice from the radio beside him "copy that, find the evidence and get out" it sounded like a female. As the five mammals moved into a hallway Hudson covered their rear as they walked through, the lights were on but there was nothing but silence.
Suddenly talking could be heard "we need to get out of here, now!" "wait for them to destroy the evidence, then they'll only be able to blame the filth" "two at the end of the hallway, drop 'em" two suppressed shots were heard followed by quiet gags and gasps from the two mammals who were just shot. "Where's the target?" Hudson asked, stepping over the bodies "the basement floor, this may get messy boys" the captain said as they began to go down into the basement of the facility, where the main parts of the water plant were housed and no doubt contaminated.
The team stopped and Manson peeked the corner in front of the main room "ten hostels in the main room" Hudson watched Charlie grab a grenade from his belt and move to the front of the line "Redbone, throwing flashbang!" This seemed to alert all the insurgents in the room as they all aimed their weapons before the flashbang went off, blinding four of them.
Hudson took point, firing a long horizontal burst at the four hostiles, downing all of them before a firefight ensued, the obese wolf pressed himself against the wall next to the door followed by officer Wilde as bullets whizzed passed them "this is Bravo Six! We have eyes on target" Hudson quickly moved to the other side of the door and shot around the corner, managing to kill one hostile before Wilde moved in as well, followed by him.
The two officers quickly cleared the room before the rest could get in and when they did there were now ten dead terrorists littered around the room, the captain ran up to the so called "evidence" in the center of the room, beside the main turbine and purifier there was a vile of Night Howler serum that was at least half full, as well as many other pieces of evidence, however what caught their ears was muffled shouting.
The five mammals walked around the main purifier to see a tied up moose with their mouth covered "this is Bravo Six to Raptor 1, we've recovered the evidence and a hostage" "copy that, Raptor 1 is waiting at the front of the building for immediate extraction" officer Hopps removed the cloth covering the bovines mouth and the captain stepped forward "thank you! They . . . They were going to kill me!" "You're alright now, let's move!" He said cutting the moose free and waiting at the door.
As the five mammals emerged with a freed hostage beside them, Hudson saw the helicopter's doors open and watched all the mammals get in, as Charlie Redbone got in he was thinking that this was it, but the helicopter didn't leave and the wolf walked over to the door "you coming?" Klyde walked up to the helicopter "I guess I am" and got in.
"You're a pretty good shot for your size, mate" Redbone said as the helicopter began to take off "I'm a little rusty, but thanks" he replied as the captain stood in front of them "could've surprised me, the rest of the officers are back at the hospital, good work" Hudson sat back and realized something "god where am I gonna go now?" He knew that going back to his apartment would never happen for the next few weeks, and he wouldn't be able to do it now since it's in the exclusion zone "you don't have anywhere to stay?" officer Hopps asked, looking over "no . . . I guess I could book for a hotel or something" "well don't go too far, we could use a guy like you on this" Redbone said as the wolf thought of possible hotels to book into "I won't be far, I'll probably go to the station tomorrow.
