This is the reboot of a story I wrote seven years ago, I looked back at this story somewhat freaked out that so many people liked it, and I felt bad that I never finished it or touched it in so long. This reboot is dedicated to those people who still asked for this from time to time, who wanted an update on the story, and here I am rebooting it to those who have waited for a long time. This is for you everyone~
Also, heads up before reading. This takes place in the ORIGINAL 2005 Ben 10 universe, not Omniverse, not the 2016 version. I will not mention anything from Omniverse or the 2016 version, because I've not watched or will touch those series. Nothing against them, I just prefer the original 2005 version.
I will touch on the Justice League when I get to the next chapter. Please understand, I will change a few minor things and go more in depth about other things about Ben and his family, as well as future chapters involving the Justice League. I'm purely doing this out of fun, inspiration and for my favorite shows. I'm not writing this to have it be super accurate to both shows or universes. So, if you're looking for super accurate stories, then this may not be the story for you.
It was a nice sunny day out on the road for the trio. Ben had fallen asleep in the back as Gwen was up front with Grandpa Max. The two had agreed to let Ben sleep due to the disturbance last night when they were at a gas station picking up snacks and then bumping into a robber at the end of that Ben deserved an extra hour or two of sleep.
The super-heroing had become so much difficult than they anticipated. Ben had always tried to stay alert everywhere he went. Grandpa Max wish the boy could catch a break—yeah he was thankful that his grandson was finally understanding the right way to use the omnitrix—the downside being that the boy's sleeping schedule has been messed up and it was already approaching the fall. In just a few short days, they'd be back in Bellwood.
Max wasn't sure how to explain this new situation to Ben's parents. He felt like he had to figure something out before they got Ben home. Gwen quickly noticed the concern written on her grandfather's face.
She seemed concerned about him now.
"Is everything okay, grandpa?"
Max looked back at her and smiled.
"Everything's fine, it's just…" He wasn't sure how to speak to Gwen about this. Could she have come idea of what to tell Ben's parents. She was very bright for her age, he then continued. "this summer is ending, and well, Ben's parents need to know of our situation."
Gwen was a little surprised to hear this.
"W-Wait, about the omnitrix?" She started her sentence off. "The entire summer of his crusading as a hero and fighting aliens?"
Grandpa Max sighed. Nodding his head.
"I can't just...lie to them about what happened." He told her, as he kept driving. "One day, some alien or criminal with a grudge is going to come after him. And we won't be there to help, and Ben will have to deal with things on his own."
Gwen understood what her grandfather was saying. But explaining about someone's son now donning a powerful weapon now attached forever to his wrist and the many dangerous encounters they had dealt with over the summer didn't seem like a bright idea for them.
Would it mean talking about her new found powers could get her into trouble as well?
She wasn't sure. She frowned, as she looked outside the window.
"Have you thought this out?" She asked Grandpa Max.
He was quiet for what seemed like ages, as he continued to drive the rust bucket down the road. It seemed like he could do just about anything, but telling Ben's parents could possibly cause some kind of damage.
Just wasn't sure what kind of damage to be exact. Could he never be allowed to see his grandson again? Would they blame him for so long that Ben might do as well. He was still a kid and had enough time to later find out that maybe Grandpa Max wasn't the best rolemodel and should've done something to fix this instead of leaving him attached to this alien piece of technology.
"Not as much as I should, Gwen." Max admitted, keeping his eyes on the road.
Eventually, he would need to discuss this with Ben and figure out a strategy from there.
An hour or so later, Ben had woken up, no annoying cousin waking him up, not Grandpa Max letting them know he brewed up a new summer disgusting dish he certainly wouldn't eat. Instead, the birds sang as he could heard the AC cranked up from the other side of RV.
He got up, scratched his neck and stretched his arms. He let out a yawn, wiping his eyes.
"Geez, what time is it?" He got up and walked over to where he thought Grandpa Max and Gwen were. Only to find the table area empty as well as the front seats.
Weird….
Ben moved forward to the front of the rust bucket, as he looked out the window to see where he was. It appeared to be along side the beach area of sorts.
Oh sweet! The beach, the sun, and of course the possibility of getting ice cream!
He grinned ear to ear, rushing over to the door of the rust bucket, excitement filled his mind, as he opened the door.
"Grandpa?" He asked, looking around. "Gwen?" He looked once more.
Where could they possibly be? Maybe they were getting food for later? Gwen probably convinced Grandpa not to buy any weird food, so he was at least thankful that today's meal probably wasn't earth worms or anything that was living.
He walked around the parking lot, searching for his two relatives, quite confused of where they may have gone. Ben kept walking along until he went over to the beach. Maybe they just were playing in the water and didn't want to wake him? Ben wasn't sure.
His stomach started to harass him with hunger. He rolled his eyes.
"Hopefully when I find them, we could go out for tacos or something?" He thought out loud to himself, clenching his stomach.
This was starting to suspiciously get weird, he noticed one thing. There wasn't anyone on the beach. It was still the summer, so there had to be someone around at the beach. Kids, teens or heck, even some old folks would be nice?
Nobody was around.
Ben kept walking around the park-like area, as he felt unsure of where Grandpa Max and Gwen were. His nerves weren't liking this one bit. He gulped.
"Seriously guys, I don't think is the time to play games." He mumbled, searching around the beach for them.
This went on for maybe twenty minutes before he got annoyed, and walked back to the rust bucket. When they came back, he was going to unleash all his questions onto them. For putting him through the trouble of worrying of where they went.
Of course, he could just turn into the many aliens of his watch, but it didn't seem like it was an emergency. At least not yet.
He re-entered the RV without another thought, as he walked back to where he had slept and just laid there looking up at the ceiling. He would explore some more, but was exhausted and he really didn't want to leave and have Grandpa Max go after him.
He caused enough for the old man, and didn't want to get him to overwork himself. So he decided for a change to just wait like the good kid he should be.
But Ben knew, he wasn't exactly the best kid. Especially to his parents. Memories poured back before he had left for the summer with his grandfather.
Ben was shoving things into a backpack, mindlessly not caring what he was putting into his bag. He was excited. For once he was going to go to places, explore the states with his grandpa and himself. It would be the most awesome trip he'll ever take.
A grin on his face, as he pulled out his handheld game player.
"Maybe, I can convince Grandpa to buy me a new game." The thought of it, seemed perfect in his mind.
A tap on the door, he let out a groan.
"Come in," He ignored his mother stepping into his bedroom.
Her blonde hair tied in a loose ponytail, her orange cardigan wrapped loosely around her, and her weak smile on her face.
Sandra thought this would help give her a break, Carl had taken days to convince her, and seeing her only son be more excited about this anything really made it easy for Sandra to let him go on this summer cross country trip with his grandfather.
"Hey kiddo." She smiled weakly. "You excited?"
Ben laughed.
"No, I'm sad…." He kept gleaming up with excitement. "Of course I'm excited!"
"Good," Sandra kept forcing a smile. "It'll be great for you to go out with you grandpa."
Ben ignored her, as he continued to shove things into his bag. It was obvious the ten year old wasn't listening to her speak. He was way too excited about this. It was his first trip away from his parents, and it was clear that he thought having them around was no good.
Sandra sighed. She knew she needed a break, Carl had been looking forward to getting everything in his life back together, he recently lost his job a few weeks back and was trying to find a new job as possible.
They didn't want Ben to worry because it didn't seem so important to him. All that mattered was Ben's happiness.
"Are you going to listen to your grandfather?" She asked her son, who tried zipping up his backpack. It was clear that he had shoved way too many things in there. She sighed, walking over sitting down on his bed, grabbing his backpack.
"W-Wait mom! Don't! I just finished packing." He whined in annoyance.
Sandra laughed at this.
"Benjamin, just let me fix this." She unzipped the tightened zipper, and started to pull out all of Ben's things much to his dismay. It was clear he wasn't putting a lot of thought into packing things correctly.
She started to arrange the items in a way that would let the backpack zip without any issues. Sandra then glanced at Ben unimpressed.
"You didn't pack any of the important essentials?"
Ben responded.
"I packed all my clothes, underwear, and video games. What could be more important than those?"
Sandra rolled her eyes.
"I don't know, your toothbrush, your toothpaste, mouthwash, and deodorant." She started to list things out. "As well as the sun screen we just bought you."
Ben was a little surprised of the things he had forgotten to pack. He just blinked.
"Oh…"
Sandra then got up and handed Ben his backpack.
"Just grab them before you leave. I wouldn't want you having stinky breath or a bad sunburn. Okay?"
Ben just groaned.
"Fine mom." His eyes rolled away from her, as she then left the room.
Ben blinked as he then recalled. He didn't tell his parents good-bye or that he loved them? Should it matter? He wasn't sure. He got up from his napping area as he then heard the sound of the door open to the rust bucket.
"Grandpa? What took you so long?" He chuckled as he saw his grandfather enter with Gwen both carrying bags of warm food.
He took a sniff and smirked.
"Is that Chinese food?"
Grandpa Max laughed in response.
"Sure is, Ben." He walked over to the table and placed the food down. Gwen had carried in a plastic bag filled with a couple bottles of soda.
"Nice to see you awake, dweeb." She teased as she sat down at the table as Grandpa Max started to pull out the food.
Ben smiled in return.
"Yeah, whatever nerd." He was just glad that they weren't missing or hurt. As much as Ben started to think, he was very thankful for the omnitrix.
It taught him so many things, and the moments like these. Where he didn't have to be a hero. Where he could sit down at the table with his closest family for a meal.
It was the best moments for the summer. The moments he knew he'd never forget.
The meal was absolutely delicious and better than anything Grandpa Max had planned this past summer. Ben was finishing his noodles as Grandpa Max decided to ask a question.
"Ben, this summer has been a….well, fun one." He began. "We've done a lot of things that you probably weren't expecting. Especially with the help of the omnitrix."
Ben nodded to this, smiling.
"Yeah! This summer has been super awesome!" He beamed up with joy. "We should plan our next summer and make it even twice as better!"
Grandpa Max frowned at this. He knew Ben had really enjoyed this summer. But telling his parents what really happened and how this would change their lives would be such a difficult task. He wasn't sure if he was up for it.
Gwen had helped him figure out a way to tell Ben without him well, getting too stressed over it.
"We're going to need to tell your parents what happened." Grandpa Max revealed. "We can't not let them know what's happened. You know in case of dangerous situations."
"Like or the clown freak or the Forever Knights….." Gwen added in.
Ben blinked and then sighed.
"Vilgax."
"Especially Vilgax." Grandpa Max let out a sigh. It was the toughest discussion he was having with Ben. "We're going to have to tell as soon as we get you home, understand?"
Ben sighed.
"Everything?"
Grandpa Max nodded in a serious manner.
"Everything."
This wasn't sounding too good to Ben. Especially considering how troublesome he already had it at home. If his parents knew about what happened, the powers, the aliens and the criminals. He could already hear his mother scowling at him for touching the watch. His father would just watch from the corner of his eye trying his best not to interrupt his wife.
He knew this all too well.
Ben looked away.
"Do we have to?" He asked with a pleading-like voice. He seemed defeated.
Gwen picked this up and frowned a little as well, staring at their grandfather.
"Do we Grandpa?" She asked.
Grandpa Max felt nervous feeling his two grandchildren's eyes on him. They wanted to keep everything a secret from their parents. It was clear that the consequences to them were very big, and he understood that. He was once a child too, so the disapproval from their parents would be very harmful now. But it was the only way he knew that they could all stay safe.
"Yes, we can't keep this kind of thing under the table without someone getting hurt." He explained this to them. He didn't want to do this either, but it was important that everyone knew what was going on.
Ben felt defeated at this, picking at his food. Thoughts of what his parents would think of him and how he had to deal with his powers worried him.
"I'm just gonna go take a walk…" He murmured, getting up and heading out of the rust bucket.
Gwen looked at Grandpa Max with a frown.
"Do you think he'll be okay?" She asked.
Grandpa Max nodded.
"H-He'll be fine, Gwen." He told her, as he started to clean up their dinner. "He just needs time to accept this."
"I guess." She frowned more, and started to help her grandpa with cleaning up their dinner.
In the distance, a figure stood before on a hill looking down on the beach and Rust bucket as Ben had just exited out of it. It was nearly dusk, and the figure spoke clenching to a communicator of sorts.
"I've found the child, what's the next step?" It spoke.
An utter silence before the big plan was to be revealed.
Each chapter will be more than 1,500 words, I will try and update as much as I can until I can finish this. Please leave a review, it would mean so much to hear from you~! Thank you for reading~!
