Author's Note: Okay, for those that have played Assassin's Creed: Origins, Odyssey or Valhalla, then you will be able to understand why a certain part of this chapter is hilarious. In Origins there was the Phylakes, in Odyssey there was the Mercenaries, and in Valhalla it was the Zealots. These were basically the muscle of the order (known as the Templars in earlier games). They are super hard to defeat, and in most cases in the beginning you are either killed, or you end up running away from them. I took this concept and put it into the story. So... Kara is a Hidden One (an assassin), and Sam is a Zealot... They have a history. That's all I'm going to say about that.

Have fun reading it because I had a blast writing it.

Chapter 4 - Learning the Truth

Kara leaned back in one of the chairs staring up at the ceiling. They had been there for a little over a day now, and hadn't found a single shred of information to say whether or not Lena was actually connected to the brotherhood or not. They couldn't find Lena's name anywhere, and not only that but there wasn't anyone that had been killed. At least none that wore silver necklaces.

Unconsciously, Kara started playing with her own necklace, running her fingers over the symbol, stuck in thought.

Alex looked up from her scroll, noticing Kara was lost in thought. "Penny for your thoughts?"

Kara dropped her necklace, "Sorry what?"

"What are you thinking about?" Alex asked, curious to know what was going on in Kara's head.

"I was just thinking about the necklace," Kara's brow creased as a thought popped into her head.

"What about the necklace?" Alex asked.

"Mine has my family name on it," Kara pointed out, sitting up and showing her necklace to Alex, even though Alex was too far to see.

"So does mine, what's your point?" Alex wasn't sure what Kara's point was.

"Before Lena swept her necklace away, I saw the name," Kara realized, her mouth falling open.

Alex sighed annoyed, "Are you saying we've been looking through years of names, when we could have been looking for one name?"

Kara's face dropped, "I didn't realize I'd seen it until right now."

"Yeah, I'm sure," Alex said, still annoyed. "Well, what did it say?"

"Kieran," Kara answered. "That's the name Lena goes by so that people don't know it's her."

"Kieran, so that would be a last name," Alex jumped up from the table. "Nia, where is the list starting with K?" She shouted to the girl that had buried herself in scrolls in the other room.

There were some sounds of papers shuffling before Nia walked into the room carrying a few scrolls, "Here's all the K's I could find." She handed one to Alex, and one to Kara.

"I've looked through this one already, I don't remember seeing a Kieran, "Alex stated.

Kara skimmed the one she had, "No Kieran here."

Nia looked through hers "Oh wait, here it is!"

Kara stood up and walked over to Nia, "What does it say?"

"It says that she… No this can't be right.." Nia showed the page to Kara. "It says she's still alive."

Kara picked up the scroll to look at it, "Nia, this doesn't say Kieran. It says Kierani, you see the 'I' on the end?"

Nia looked closely, "Oh, well… Sorry." She apologized, as she realized she got their hopes up for nothing.

"Well, I guess we better pack up and head to Glowecesterscire, and see if the list is there or not," Alex stated, realizing they'd just spent all this time for nothing. "We will sleep tonight and leave in the morning."

Kara nodded, "Agreed."

Lena crawled out of the river south of Jorvik. She didn't want to get out too early out of fear that someone might see her, and inevitably try to kill her for the undoubtedly large sum of silver that her mother put on her head. Her swimming abilities were really put to the test that day. It was a good thing she often used the water as a way to get information, otherwise she might not have survived.

After pulling herself out of the water, she laid on the ground. "Ouch," realizing something was stuck in her back.

She reached with her arm and connected with a knife. "Seriously mother," Lena exclaimed, annoyed that her mother actually aimed to hit and kill her. She pulled it out. Luckily it had jabbed into the leather of her armour, otherwise she'd probably be dead by this point. Just a body floating down the river.

Before laying down again, she checked the rest of her, and was relieved that there were no more blades sticking out of her, and no cuts that she could find. She was more agile than she thought, because she had felt a lot of blades flying past her as she had run for her life.

The order was exactly what Kara had said it was, she couldn't believe that the hidden one was right. She had been so hopeful that Kara had been lying, but it turned out her entire life was a lie. Made her wonder what else was a lie.

After a few more breaths, she got up and started walking. She would need to find a place to sleep for the night as the sun was going down, but also some food, and a horse.

I need to be careful with there being a bounty on my head now, Lena thought to herself as she chose to walk through the fields instead of on the path.

She made her way to a nearby fisherman's dock, in hopes that she could find a horse. She knew she needed to rest but she needed to get some distance between Jorvik and where she was.

Lena approached a stable, "Hello, do you have any horses for sale?"

The man looked at her happy to have a customer, "Yes, of course. I have many different horses. It depends on the price range you are looking at. The more expensive, the faster the horse."

Lena dropped a bag of silver on the table, "I will take your fastest horse."

The man's eyes opened wide at the amount of silver sitting on his table, "Yes, of course. I will throw in a saddle and some carrots for the horse as well." He collected a back, placing multiple carrots in the bag, and placing it onto the horse with a saddle and reins. "Here you go Miss."

"Thank you," Lena said, before she hopped onto the horse and rode off.

She rode until she was in the Sherwood Forest. There she'd create a camp and sleep for the night.

It didn't take long for her to set up camp, she found some deer in the area for food before she went to sleep.

It was day three since they were in Ledecestre, and Kara, Alex and Nia were nearing the entrance to the bureau in Glowecesterscire. It was an old building between two statues. J'onn had given them a map to locate this one as it was in the middle of the forest and wasn't near any landmarks.

"Well, this looks like the place," Alex said looking from the map at the building.

They grabbed their torches, after they tied up their horses, and walked into the old building. It took a little while walking through the halls underground, but eventually they found the old bureau.

"So we are looking for the name Kieran," Alex said more so to herself but to anyone else to remind them.

"Hey Alex, I need to leave for a little while," Kara mentioned off handedly.

"If I have to be in this creepy old bureau, so do you," Alex sounded like she was ordering Kara to do so.

"Yeah, that's not what I meant. When we were in Ledecestre, I had made a deal with Lena to meet me in Glowecestre in three days. If she wanted to kill me, then we would fight, if not then we would team up," Kara explained.

"You cannot be serious," Alex dropped her torch in annoyance, the fire spattering on the floor but not going out.

Kara nodded, "She was unsure about the order. I don't think she'll want to kill me."

"You can say that from the two conversations you've had with her? Kara, she's a Luthor," Alex argued. "They are the top family of the order. There is no way that she's not going to want to kill you."

Kara put her torch on the handhold on the wall so she didn't have to hold it, "So what are we doing here then Alex? Why are we spending time looking for documentation on a necklace, if you didn't think we could turn her?"

"I-"

"I am also wondering that as well," Nia asked, looking from Kara to Alex.

Alex thought about it for a moment realizing that there really wasn't a set reason for them to be here except for the one Kara just pointed out. "When J'onn said that there was documentation that said that we could use it to figure out who she was, I was curious. It wasn't about turning her. It was about figuring out if the reason we are hidden ones is because of nurture or nature. Are we who we are because of our family? Or is it because we were meant to be one?"

"You think the book of names will tell you that information?" Kara asked, confused now.

"When we were at the last bureau, there were a few lines I'd read that said that the hidden one had turned. Some were captured, some were still alive, but some were turned. So I wondered if Lena's mother might have been like that. How many of us are out there, that are part of the order now," Alex explained, to the best of her abilities.

Kara nodded, "Okay, but that still doesn't change the fact that I am going to Glowecestre to meet up with Lena today."

"If you are going, I'm not letting you go alone," Alex stated. "I am not letting my little sister potentially go into a fight that she might not be able to win. Nia, you stay here and keep looking. If by morning we have not arrived, head back to Lunden."

Nia nodded, "Okay, but I'm sure the two of you have got this."

"Thanks for the confidence Alex," Kara sighed.

Lena had rode her horse into Glowescestre, from the east. There was a chance she may get spotted here but she was hoping that maybe the bounty wouldn't have reached this far south west from Jorvik. She found a place to tie her horse up before she continued her trek on foot. They were to meet at the dock. That was what Kara had told her a couple days ago.

She had her hood and mask up as this would allow her the most cover from anyone recognizing her, and potentially trying to kill her.

After only a few minutes of walking, she had spotted the cloak matching the elusive hidden one she had come to know as Kara. She had time to think about everything and while she knew that without Kara, she would still be in the dark about her family, in a way that made it worse. She might have been in the dark with the Luthors but at least she had a home. She had no one now.

She was alone.

This made her angry and for the first time since leaving Jorvik, she had someone to blame.

"You…" Lena seethed with anger.

The hidden one turned around to face Lena, "You made it."

Lena pulled out one of her daggers, and pointed it at Kara, "You are the reason that I am now being hunted!" She used her left hand to drop her hood and mask, so she could look at the woman that ruined her life.

Kara put her hands up in front of her defensively, "Did you or did you not learn the truth about the order?" She wanted to know before she said anything else, because if Lena was being hunted it only meant one thing.

"That is besides the point. If not for you, I would still have a family, a place to call home. I have nothing now," Lena shouted, not caring if anyone recognized her anymore. She was mad and she wanted to make it very known who had caused the anger.

"You were living a lie. The people you called your family chose to lie to you, they knew that you would react like this and they manipulated you," Kara pointed out. "They used your abilities against you. You must see that," She kept her hands up in front of her defensively. She wasn't going to pick up her sword as she was certain Lena wasn't going to hurt her. This wasn't like the last time.

Kara could see it in Lena's eyes. She was mad, that was clear from her position, but more than that she was hurt.

"I DO SEE IT!" Lena shouted, anger coursing through her veins, so much so that tears began to fill her eyes. She was mad but she was also devastated. "I was a fool. I saw the signs, and I ignored them thinking there had to be a logical explanation for them."

"You wanted to believe your family was good," Kara said, stepping toward Lena in hopes that she could convince her to put down her dagger.

"I knew they weren't, that's the thing. I know my brother does less than desirable things to get what he wants, and I know my mother has had people executed for the simplest of reasons. I just didn't want to see it," Lena explained her position in the situation. She dropped her arm, with her dagger, "It makes me wonder, what that makes me…"

"Someone that wanted to see the good in people," Kara tried to comfort Lena, knowing that hearing this information couldn't have been good.

"I just wish that-"

"Well well well, look at what we have here," A brute walked into the conversation from the sidelines, with about eight guards behind him. Some had swords and shields, others spears, and a couple archers were standing behind this group, bows in the ready.

Kara turned to face the brute, "Why don't you just walk away."

He held one of his fists, cracking the knuckles, "You know I can't do that. I will gladly accept the bounty for both of your heads, but mostly I want the Luthor. So why don't you step aside, and let me just take her."

Kara took a couple steps, standing between Lena and the brute. She knew Lena could hold her own in a fight, but something made her want to protect her. "That is not going to happen. You know that I alone could beat all of you, do you really want to know what it's like to fight the three of us?"

He looked at her confused, "There are only-"

Before he could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by an arrow zipping through the air, and connecting with one of the men with a sword next to the brute. The warrior fell down on his back, with an arrow sticking out of his helmet.

The brute looked up toward where the shot came from, and up on one of the nearby houses, was a hidden one holding a bow. A new arrow had already been cocked for another shot. He smiled at the challenge, "Lucky shot," He shouted up to the one on the house, not fazed in the slightest that one of his men just died next to him.

"Why don't you try something and see what happens next?" Alex, who was on the rooftop shouted back.

The brute grinned, ready for a challenge, "There are civilians nearby, you wouldn't dare."

"Uh… Captain, maybe we should heed their warning," One of the warriors suggested swallowing nervously. He had heard that even just one hidden one left everyone dead, he couldn't imagine fighting two.

Alex, who was up on the house, knew they had two choices here. They could fight and potentially put civilians in danger, or they could disappear in a flash of smoke. Kara had the smoke bombs though, so she would wait a minute before firing another shot.

"You know the kind of training I've had, do you really want to test me," Lena finally spoke up. "Plus with the two hidden ones, do you really think you have much of a chance to win?"

"You really think these people care enough about you to protect you?" The brute asked. He was still sure this would be an easy fight. There were more of them than these three women. This would be easy money.

Lena laughed, "I don't think it has anything to do with me. They know people like you and know what you do to others. Especially you," she said looking right at the brute.

"She has a point," Kara crossed her arms trying to assert dominance. She was much shorter than the brute but she was determined to look menacing. The hidden ones had a reputation that would speak enough volumes for her, regardless of height.

"Get them!" The brute shouted.

Just as the words left his mouth, Kara threw down several smoke bombs, the area filling with a white cloud of dust. A couple arrows went flying, and they all disappeared.

A few moments later, as the smoke cloud dissipated, a warrior was shocked to find he was still alive. He touched his chest, his head, and couldn't find any arrows. "Thank God, I'm still alive. Captain, what shou-" He trailed off looking over to his right at what remained of their Captain. He was laying on the ground, with his throat slashed.

After the encounter, Kara and Alex walked with Lena away from the town, but not in any direction as they still weren't sure if they could trust Lena. Kara certainly hoped that they could but she wasn't one hundred percent sure, and didn't want to be the reason more of their people died.

"You didn't have to do that, we could have taken them," Lena pointed out the error in what they'd just done.

"You are absolutely right. We could have easily killed all of them, but when that brute had mentioned civilians, I knew that he would have tried to use them against us. Trying to further ensure that the problem people are the hidden ones and not the order," Kara conveyed, knowing that Alex would at least understand that.

"Then why kill him," Lena questioned, wanting to understand why running away from a fight made more sense when they were just going to kill someone regardless.

"A man like that, someone not fazed by death, is someone that has killed a lot of people. If Kara wouldn't have put him down, I would have," Alex spoke up, adding to the conversation.

"Who even are you?" Lena asked, skipping over her answer.

Kara stopped and turned around, facing Lena, "The better question is, who are you?"

"Excuse me," Lena looked at them confused now. "You know who I am."

"I know your name, sure, but I still do not know why you are here," Kara answered. "Have you seen the light and want to join us on our quest, or are you biding your time until you can kill me in my sleep?"

Finally, it made sense to Lena, as to why it seemed that they weren't actually going anywhere. "I just learned that my family betrayed me. While I don't know you, the only reason I questioned my family was because of you. I might not be happy that I don't have anywhere to go, but without you, I would be living a lie. At this moment, I do not want to kill you, not like I did when I met you in Lunden. Whether or not that will change, I can't answer that."

Kara turned to Alex, "Well that's good enough for me, Alex?"

Alex shrugged, "You can come along, but, if I get even the slightest sense that you are not on our team, I will cut you down. Do you understand?" She glared at Lena, holding her left arm slightly up, ready to use her hidden blade at a moment's notice.

Lena nodded, "I understand. I wouldn't trust me either."

"Kara, where's the map?" Alex asked, wanting to get back to the bureau.

"You mean the map that you left in the bureau?" Kara pointed out. "When we were arguing, you put it down, but I don't remember you actually picking it up after that point."

Alex dropped her head in annoyance. "I think it was this way.." She started walking in a random direction in hopes that something would job her memory.

"I hate to brag, but you do know that tracking is kind of my thing right?" Lena pointed out. "I've practically dedicated my life to being able to track people through all levels of terrain. I am sure I can locate the path you took initially."

Alex eyed her curiously, "Be my guest." She motioned in front of them. "If you can figure out how to get back, I will be impressed."

Lena stepped forward, looking around the area. She kneeled down to look at the ground for footprints, and broken twigs.

It didn't take long and they were retracing their steps back in the direction Alex and Kara had led her on, before she found the path of them walking away from the bureau.

"For future, if you want to ensure no one can figure out where you have come from, use the trees," Lena said as they walked up to the two statues that she assumed led to the bureau. She pointed up to the trees they were surrounded by. "Trees are typically how I stay out of sight."

"Noted," Kara nodded. "Okay, follow me, I remember the path in the tunnels."

Alex laughed, "Sure you do. If anything we can call for Nia and she'll direct us."

XXXXXXX

They walked into the bureau after several failed attempts to find the correct path. It turned out that Kara had no sense of direction underground. It was Lena again, who helped them get back to the bureau instead.

Upon entering it, Lena was taken aback by how many scrolls and books there were on the shelves, "Wow… The bureau in Jorvik was destroyed long ago, so I didn't get to see what potential it had. This… is amazing."

"Yes it is- Wait, what are you doing here?" Nia questioned before looking to Alex and Kara for help. "Why is she here?"

"Nia, did you find anything?" Alex asked, ignoring her questions.

"Uh… There is a Luthor here," Nia whispered to her mentors.

Kara leaned in, "We know, now get on with it."

"Since joining the creed, all I have ever heard is how the Luthors are bad, why is she here?" Nia pushed the topic. She wanted to understand why things had changed.

"Her name is Lena, Nia, and she's with us. So please, what did you find?" Kara asked again.

"Uh… Well… I…" Nia still wasn't sure about this. She leaned into Alex, "Are you sure?"

Alex nodded, "Yes."

"Okay… Well, based on my day's worth of research, the only Kieran I was able to find in the scrolls only has a last known location." Nia began to explain. The name caught Lena's attention, making her turn to listen. "While J'onn had said that it would show what happened, this one only says where she once was. With the fact that a lot of years have passed, I'm not sure how this helps us."

Lena turned to Kara, "You are looking into my family name?"

Kara looked from Nia to Lena, "Did I not mention that part?"

Alex shook her head.

"You did not," Lena wanted to know what was going on.

"Okay, Lena, uh… You have one of our necklaces, that says to me that there is a chance your mother was one of us. That isn't a very popular opinion however. Some think that maybe your mother killed one of us and stole the necklace, but with the fact that your name is on the necklace, I don't think so. So we have been going from bureau to bureau looking for documentation that would point us to what happened," Kara explained. "Nia, where does it say we need to go?"

"Um… it's a farm called 'Tuicca's Farm' but it doesn't say where exactly that is," Nia answered. "That's what I've been doing since I found the name, is looking for it on a map."

"It's south of Lunden, in Suthsexe," Lena answered before anyone else could.

Alex looked over, "How do you know that?"

Lena shrugged her shoulders, "My mother has a map in the kingdom that has red x's on points of significance. I've asked her on several occasions why a farm would be significant but she never gave me a straight answer."

"If it has significance to the Luthor Kingdom, then I think it's worth it for us to check out," Kara said, looking at Alex hoping she agreed.

"Okay, we will check it out," Alex agreed to the idea.

XXXXXXX

They left Glowecestrescire, and headed for Suthsexe, in hopes to find more answers. As they were nearing the farm, Kara spotted something in the distance.

"Alex, look over there," Kara pointed in the direction of her sight.

"Isn't that a…" Alex dragged off forgetting the word as she hadn't been out in a while.

"A zealot, yes, and I think it's the one that almost killed me last time. Want to help me take it out," Kara suggested.

Alex nodded, ready for a fight. "Let's do it."

Lena by this point overheard their conversation and looked in the direction they were talking about. There was in fact a zealot riding their horse on a path across from where they were. She moved her horse in a better position to see the rider, "You are not killing her," She stated before riding over to the zealot.

Kara and Alex looked at each other, "What, why?" Kara questioned, watching Lena ride away from them.

Moments later, Lena returned with the zealot, "You can't kill this one because she's my-"

"YOU!" The zealot shouted pointing her finger at Kara.

Kara looked around frantically thinking that this zealot couldn't be talking about her. "Me?"

The zealot pulled off her helmet, revealing that it was in fact Lena's friend Sam Arias, "This is your friend, Lena?"

Lena was confused as she looked between the two, "Uh.. I think, friend might be too strong of a word, but yes, she's something like that. Kara, Alex, this is Sam, she's one of my closest friends. Sam, this is Kara," she pointed at the blonde, "And Alex," pointed at the short haired one.

"You are lucky that we were near that bridge," Sam said, anger fueling her words as she stared at Kara.

Kara chuckled before she looked at Alex, "This is definitely the one."

"What is going on?" Lena asked, wanting to understand what was happening.

"Do you want to explain what is going on here… Kara, or shall I?" Sam asked, putting emphasis on the name of the girl she finally learned the name of.

"Sam and I kind of know each other," Kara answered in the vaguest possible way, before she started laughing.

"If by knowing each other you mean randomly having an arrow hit my helmet while riding my horse, then yes, we know each other," Sam pointed out.

Kara couldn't help but to keep laughing, "Oh yeah, I forgot about that time."

"Someone explain to me what is happening," Lena was getting frustrated that no one was directly telling her anything.

"Lena, do you remember all the stories about the hidden one that has tried to kill me? Each time either running away, or jumping off a bridge," Sam reminded.

Lena thought about it for a moment, until realization struck, "That was you," She looked over at Kara at this point.

Kara nodded trying to hold back her laugh, "Yes, but to be fair she almost killed me each time. Each time I thought I was strong enough, and each time I was proven wrong. You almost had me this last time, but if not for that bridge over that river, I might have died. Then again, your arrow did clip my arm, so thanks for that."

"You deserved it," Sam said in annoyance. "I have had to buy so many arrows because of you, not only that, but this is my fourth horse since you first attacked me."

"Why are you going through so many horses?" Lena asked, not sure how that has anything to do with the current situation.

"Oh, because she likes to shoot fire at me. One time it caught the horse, and it knocked me off, preventing me from putting it out. Then there was that other time with the poison arrow, it didn't hit the horse, but enough of it got into its lungs and it slowly died after you got away. I had to walk to the nearest town to get a new horse," Sam pointed out, still trying to prove why she was the victim here.

Kara burst out laughing at that one, "Sorry about that."

"Yeah, I can tell you're really broken up about it," Sam answered, disbelief written all over her face. "Enough about us, why are you here? Why are you with these two?"

"They are trying to determine if my mother killed one of them, obtaining this necklace," She lifted it from under her armour, "Or if she was in fact one of them," Lena explained. "The last clue has pointed us to this farm. We were just about to check it out, when they spotted you."

"Does that mean you finally got the truth from the Queen?" Sam asked, genuinely curious if her friend knew the truth yet.

"You say that like you already know the truth," Lena questioned, noticing the tone in Sam's voice.

"I do know the truth Lena, but I was told that if I told you, my life would end," Sam explained, knowing that she failed as a friend. "I just hoped that at one point you would learn the truth. However, even with that said, I still do not understand why the order has asked me to kill certain people."

"Well maybe we will learn the truth together," Lena said, hoping they could all work together. "Shall we?"

Kara motioned for Sam to go first, "Go ahead."

"Hell no, you might stab me in the back, you go first," Sam pointed forward.

"Why don't you two just ride side by side?" Alex suggested, "You can protect the back."

Sam and Kara eyed each other suspiciously before they agreed and rode their horse side by side the rest of the way.

XXXXXX

They arrived moments later, tied up their horses and walked into the house. It wasn't a huge house by any means, but it wasn't small either. It was somewhere in between, and based on the look of it, no one had been in it for a long time. There were cobwebs on the walls, on the tables, and dust everywhere. Whoever did live here, left a long time ago.

Sam and Alex chose to walk around outside, while Lena, Kara and Nia looked inside the house. This kept Sam and Kara away from each other, and allowed them to look in two places at once.

Lena wandered around the house not recognizing anything. Maybe she grew up here until she was four, but she had no memory of it. Even the location, like she had said, the only reason she recognized it was because of the X on her mother's map.

That is until eyes landed on a wooden stick person that appeared to be holding a sword. She picked it up and ran her fingers over the figure. Something about it was familiar.

"Did you find something?" Kara asked, walking over to where Lena was standing looking lost in thought.

"This seems familiar to me," Lena answered, showing the toy to Kara.

"Well, chances are you lived here, so it's no surprise that seems familiar," Kara pointed out.

Lena shook her head, "It's not that. Looking around this place, nothing seems familiar. If I lived here, I don't remember it."

"Then maybe you had a toy like that growing up," Kara suggested, trying to find a reasonable reason she would recognize this toy.

Lena's brow creased in confusion, "I don't think it's that either. Growing up with the Luthors, we didn't have a lot of toys. It was mostly about reading, and learning to fight, and understanding tactics in war. It was never about playtime, not with toys anyways. I've known how to shoot an arrow since I was six. And yet, I remember this… I just don't know how I remember it."

"Take it with you, maybe it'll come back to you," Kara suggested.

"Yeah, I'll-"

"GUYS, you need to get out here!" Alex shouted from outside.

Kara, Nia and Lena run outside, only to be met with an overly large bull in a pen not far in front of the house.

"What is that!?" Kara shouted, not really expecting anyone to answer. "That thing does not look like a normal bull."

The bull made a noise like it was about to charge, and something about it hit Lena like a ton of bricks. She froze in place, her mouth slowly opened as realization hit her.

Nia couldn't help but to notice Lena stop in her tracks, "Are you okay?" She asked, genuinely worried for Lena.

"I remember," Lena whispered, as memories flooded her head. "It was the middle of the day, I was in the field over there playing with this," She lifted up the toy, "When my mom was dragged out of the house."

"What did you do?" Nia asked, not sure if she wanted to know what a little girl saw.

"I just… Stood there," Lena answered, eyes glazed like she was in the memory watching it again. "I didn't… do anything. I just watched them take her."

"You were only a little girl, there wasn't anything you could do," Nia tried to convince her of that fact. "If anything, you staying back kept you alive."

"You might be right but… I also remembered who took her, and why this toy is so familiar to me," Lena started to say, resisting the urge to throw the toy.

By this time, Nia waved over Kara, Alex and Sam, "Who was it?" Nia asked, as the others stood in listening distance.

Lena sighed, "When I was growing up, there was this woman that really helped me become me. She would let me play with the toys she had in her study, and I just realized, this was that toy. This… Exact… Toy," She said, feeling tears well up in her eyes. "I played with it… So many times…" A tear fell down her face. "On her shelf, she had several different toys and knick knacks. She told me that they were things she picked up over her many adventures, and I believed her. That is until I saw this..." She lifted up the toy.

"How does that story connect to who took your mom?" Kara asked, trying to understand the connection.

Lena felt like her world was crumbling around her. She sat down on one of the steps she was standing on, "I remember that woman dragging my mom out of the house. I can see her hitting her over the head, effectively knocking my mom out, and throwing her over her shoulder, and putting her on the horse before riding away. With that smug smirk on her face, trying to say she won. Which she did… But I never saw it, and I think she knew it. This entire time, she knew what she did to me… Yet she trained me, she made me who I am now… And she.. She killed my mom..." She whispered the last part as she dropped her head into her hands.
