Chapter 5 - A Hidden One by Blood
"Fulke? Are you sure," Kara asked, wanting to make sure she had heard right.
Lena nodded, "Yes, she was my mentor, I would never forget her name."
Kara looked up at Alex, "Isn't she responsible for what happened to one of our own years ago?"
"You're right…" Alex realized. "There was that story we were told years ago, about Fulke being the reason that so many bureaus were compromised. Something about… some important person in the creed. I don't remember exactly, Nia, have you been told it yet?"
Nia shrugged, "Nope, I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Damnit," Alex exclaimed, annoyed.
"Wouldn't Eliza know the story?" Kara asked, standing up from where she was kneeled down.
Alex's eyes opened wide, "You're right. Mom would know the story. We need to go to Lunden." She said before looking down at Lena, who was very much still broken. "Um… We will get the horses ready." She looked over at Sam and Nia to get her point across.
"Oh, yes, that is definitely a three person job" Sam agreed, walking away with Alex and Nia.
Kara waited until they were gone, before sitting down next to Lena.
"I'm sorry," Lena stuttered trying to end her cries. "You don't have to stay here with me."
Kara nodded, "You're right, but I know what it's like to learn that the people you looked up to weren't what they seemed."
"You're just saying that to try and make me feel better," Lena whispered, looking forward at the huge bull, finally understanding why this was an x on her mother's map. "Everyone in my life was a lie. Each person betrayed me on some level. I don't know who I am now. Just a weaker version of who I thought I was."
"You are not weak. You are a brilliant, kind hearted, beautiful soul. You see the good in people, and your family betrayed that trust. That doesn't change who you are," Kara tried to instill truth in Lena. She had only known the other woman for a short time, but it didn't take a genius to see that Lena wanted to do good.
"You don't even know me," Lena shook her head, not feeling any better. "I could be exactly like them, why are you trying so hard to try and sway me?" She looked over to her left at Kara, wanting to understand where this was coming from.
Kara stared into green eyes for a moment, before looking toward the huge bull, "It's because I know what you're going through. I know what it's like to find out that the people you called your family, weren't who they said they were."
"You're a part of the hidden ones, you can't tell me that you understand what I am going through," Lena pointed out, not seeing the connection.
"I wasn't always. When my parents died in that fire, I thought they were just farmers, but… I was so wrong." Kara shook her head, trying to shake the emotion taking her over. "They caused their own destruction, they are the reason that I lost them. From all of their shady deals, to imprisoning and experimenting on people to get money, I didn't know who I was." She explained, staring at the bull, understanding what it was like to feel trapped. Trapped within their feelings, not understanding who they were or how to get out of the hole they were in. "Alex, helped me see the light. She made me understand that it wasn't my past that defined me, it was who I was now."
Lena watched as Kara's entire demeanour changed from one of anguish, to one of strength.
Kara turned to look back at Lena, "I am living proof that your family, regardless of what they have done, doesn't define who you are. What I see in front of me, is someone that wants to do right. Someone that wants to do good. We are going to find Fulke, and we will make her pay." She said with determination in her voice. "She killed one of our own, and it resulted in the death of tens of hundreds of our people. I want to see her suffer, just as much as you do. What do you say? Will you help us?"
"Whatever happens, I want to be there. Fulke took everything from me, and she made me believe that she cared for me," Lena felt her spirit lifting up with determination. "I will help you. I want to see this through." She wiped at her eyes, to brush her tears away.
Kara stood up, putting out her hand to help Lena up, which she did. "Okay, then let's head off to Lunden."
XXXXXXX
They arrived in Lunden a few hours later, and once they did, they directed Sam to a bar before they went to the bureau in Lunden. Since Lena was involved, they made the decision to allow her in the bureau as she seemed just as invested now. More than ever.
Instead of checking in with J'onn, they went straight to Eliza's office. They hoped she'd remember the story so they could tell them about it. The hope was that it might shine a light on where Fulke may have taken Lena's mother so that they could find out what happened to her. It was unlikely that she was still alive, but until they had confirmation, they were going to continue on their journey.
When they walked into the room, Eliza was facing a bookshelf looking for something. "Hey, Mom," Alex greeted walking in to stand by Eliza.
"Oh hello dear," Eliza greeted Alex with a hug. "Did you bring Kar-" She asked, turning around to face Kara. She lost her train of thought as she looked up at the woman walking behind her adoptive daughter.
"Eliza, what is it?" Kara asked, following who she was looking at. "Oh, Eliza this is-"
Eliza put her hand up to stop Kara from speaking, "You look exactly like an old friend of mine." She whispered walking up to Lena. "It's like looking into a mirror."
Alex and Kara looked at each other before Alex spoke up, "Okay… Um, Mom, we're hoping you can tell us the story about Fulke and that hidden one…"
Eliza took one last look at Lena before turning back to Kara and Alex, walking over to a desk to put her book on, "Why would you need my help for that?" She asked leaning against the table crossing her arms to look at them.
Alex was taken aback by the statement, "Neither Kara, nor I remember it, and we know you tell it to the recruits, so we hoped you could tell us again."
Eliza looked at them confused, "You have her, why do you need me?" She put her right hand out toward Lena.
Now Kara was looking at Eliza confused, "What do you mean?"
"She should know the story," Eliza answered, like it was the most straightforward thing ever.
"How would she know anything about the story? Mom, this is Lena Luthor, up until just recently she was part of The Order of the Ancients. Our enemy. Of all the people, she would be the least likely to know what happened," Alex pointed out the error in her statement.
"Huh… So that's what happened to you," Eliza looked back at Lena again, looking at her curiously.
"Okay, someone needs to tell me what is happening," Lena finally spoke for the first time. "Clearly, there is information I need to know that I don't know."
Eliza cracked a smile, "You even sound like her."
"Okay, Mom seriously, what is going on?" Alex was getting tired of this back and forth and wanted a straight answer.
"Alright," Eliza crossed her arms again, "Years ago, there was this woman that joined our creed. Nobody really knew where she came from, what her history was, nothing, but she wanted to help us build up our community. So much so that she was actually the reason that our bureaus are hidden behind mazes, and intricate pathways. She wanted us to survive, and outlive the order."
"Mom, what does that have anything to do with-"
"I'll get to it." Eliza cut off Alex's question. "I worked very closely with her over the years, so much so that we became close. Friends even. Now, she had all the capabilities to become a full fledged hidden one, but she liked being in the shadows. She didn't want to shine a light on herself so she did everything in her power to ensure that no one knew who she was. We only saw her from time to time. That was what she wanted. She would help when needed, but for the most part she kept to herself." She stepped away from the table, and toward her desk across the room. "She helped us build each of the bureaus with very specific instructions on how to truly keep them hidden."
"Is she why we get lost sometimes?" Kara asked, curious to know why it has always been so hard to get to certain bureaus.
Eliza nodded as she turned back around to face them, "She was. For the longest time, she was content with this. She was a builder, and that was enough for her. That is until she met someone, and then everything changed. It wasn't just about her anymore." She looked over to her left now at Lena, "It was about her daughter."
Lena looked around thinking that this woman couldn't possibly be looking at her, "Who?" She asked, thinking she was just looking at her, nothing more.
"She named her daughter Lena," Eliza confirmed what they had all been wondering. "All of a sudden, everything was about that little girl. She built an entire vault for her, that was said to have everything she would need."
"Why do you say it like that?" Alex asked, trying to understand what is being said.
"The vault is in Hamtunscire, on the Isle of Wiht, but no one has ever been able to get into it. A key is required, but we believe that it was lost with her," Eliza mentioned, saddened by the thought of it. "You see, this was the woman that Fulke had kidnapped. When we arrived at the house, her daughter was gone. We thought that Fulke and her men killed the girl. Looking at you now, I can see that is not what happened," She said the last part looking at Lena again.
"My father found me at the house, and he brought me to the Luthor Kingdom," Lena said without being asked, feeling the need to fill in the blanks. "Are you saying that… My mother… Was with her… When I was there…" She felt tears welling up in her eyes.
"Oh dear," Eliza stepped closer wanting to comfort Lena, but held back making sure she didn't overstep. "We are still not entirely sure where they took your mother. But she had all of the details of the bureaus, and after months, we lost hundreds."
Lena didn't know what to say. She had only just learned that Lillian and Lex had been lying to her her entire life about The Order. Then she learned that her mentor Fulke was the person that killed her mother, and now… Now she's learned the biggest detail ever.
"Does that make me a Hidden One by blood?" Lena asked, not sure if she wanted the answer or not.
Eliza nodded, "It does." She could sense that Lena needed to be held, she remembered it from when Kara had only just joined their family. "Would you mind if I gave you a hug?"
There was no answer, Lena wrapped her arms around Eliza before the question even left her mouth. She felt her entire body melt at the warm contact. Lillian wasn't much for comfort, so this was new. Familiar even. As if, she'd maybe been in this woman's arms before.
"Even if you do not consider this your home, you will always be welcome here. Your mother would have wanted that for you," Eliza spoke with Lena wrapped around her. "Being a part of the brotherhood is ultimately your choice."
Lena pulled back at this, "I don't have to join?"
Eliza shook her head, "No, you do not. It is a choice. Think about it. You have learned a lot of things in the last couple days, there is no rush."
Lena nodded, "I will think about it. Thank you."
"Sure. Can I ask you one thing, Lena?" Eliza asked, hoping she would be open to it.
"Of course," Lena nodded, waiting for an answer.
"Did your mother give you anything before…" Eliza hinted toward what happened without saying it.
Lena nodded, she reached behind her neck to unhook the chain on her necklace to bring it in front of herself, "She gave me this." She held the chain with the hidden one symbol dangling from the chain, in front of her.
"May I?" Eliza asked, hoping to take a look at it.
Lena handed it to Eliza, "Sure."
Alex looked at Kara, "Well, I guess you were right. She is one of us. I guess I owe you that drink."
"I told you," Kara stuck out her tongue, like a child at Alex.
"I wouldn't celebrate just yet, girls," Eliza said as she examined the symbol on the chain.
"What do you mean? That is one of our necklaces, and her mother was one of us. Therefore, Kara wins," Alex explained their bet.
Eliza shook her head, "This is not one of ours."
"What do you mean? It looks exactly like ours," Kara defended her win.
"Exactly." Eliza confirmed.
Kara looked at her confused, "I don't understand."
"This was meant to look like one of ours to hide in plain sight. You remember how I said we were looking for a key to get into the vault?" Eliza asked, checking to see if everyone was paying attention earlier.
Alex nodded, "Yes, what does that have anything to do with it?"
"This is the key," Eliza nodded. "I have been studying that keyhole for many years now. Do you see how this one is not entirely flat, and has curved edges, almost like notches?" She showed everyone in the room. "I would bet this is the key. Your mother must have given it to you just in case something happened to her." She flipped it over and read the name on the back. "Kieran…"
"My mother's name," Lena stated.
Eliza shook her head, "No… This just confirms it. You are her daughter. Kieran is your family name."
"What?" Lena asked, confused.
"Your mother's name was Patty," Eliza stated. "She told very few people about this second name so that if anything ever happened to her, we'd know who it was connected to. I suspect she put that name on the back, so that people like myself could confirm that you were her daughter."
"So if's her last name then?" Kara asked, a little confused now.
"No, Kieran is the name that Patty used as an alias to keep herself hidden from prying eyes. She most likely put it on the back of this so that we would know Lena was connected to Patty," Eliza explained.
"That's why the name Kieran was in the scroll?" Kara asked.
"Exactly," Eliza nodded, confirming Kara's suspicions.
"Why was she so secretive?" Alex asked, wondering why someone went to such lengths to keep themselves hidden.
Eliza shrugged, "No idea. She never explained to anyone why she was so secretive about anything."
"At the end of the day, Fulke ruined my life," Lena said out of nowhere. Of all the things just revealed, that was what stuck with her. If not for Fulke, this person she had considered family by this point, she would still have a loving mother, and have answers to these questions.
Kara nodded, "Yes." She looked to Eliza, "Are there any clues as to where Fulke would be?"
"I know where she is," Lena answered.
Kara, Alex and Eliza looked at Lena surprised.
"She lives in a cave on the outskirts of Jorvik," Lena continued. "She trained me, of course I know where she lives. I will go there, and end this." She turned to leave.
Kara moved quickly, stopping Lena from leaving the room, "We need to come up with a plan, Lena. You can't just go in with knives blazing, she'll get the upper hand."
"I don't care," Lena whispered, a mixture of anger and sadness in her voice. "She needs to pay for what she did."
"I know, but you can't go in this state," Kara urged her not to go. "We will go together, but first we need to plan, and rest."
Lena could see the sincerity in Kara's eyes. She wanted to help her. "Fine. I can show where she lives, on a map." She walked over to a map on Eliza's desk, and pointed to where Fulke lives. "It's here."
Eliza looked at the map and up at Lena, "Thank you."
"Sure," Lena answered, before walking away.
"Lena, wa-" Kara tried to chase after her but was held back by Eliza.
"Let her be, Kara," Eliza spoke softly. "Her world just came crashing down. She needs a moment alone."
Kara looked into Eliza's eyes briefly before watching Lena's form slowly disappear.
"I will take this information to J'onn and we will figure out a plan of attack," Eliza said, before picking up the map and walking out of the room.
"I know mom told you to leave her alone, Kara, but I think Lena could use you. I haven't known her for long, but one thing I do know is that you have a way with her. So go to her," Alex suggested, having a feeling that Kara might be able to save whatever good Lena might still have in her. There was a sense of darkness in that brief moment when realization had hit that Fulke had killed Lena's mother and Alex knew that could turn out badly, if not controlled early.
XXXXXXX
After a few minutes, Kara found Lena in the armory staring at the various weapons they had on hand. It was late, so no one was in the armory at the time.
As Kara approached her, which prompted Lena to speak, "When I get frustrated, I like to tinker with weapons, try to make them better in some way, but I'm not at home so…"
Kara nodded, "I understand. You are welcome to modify any weapon you like."
Lena pulled her daggers from her belt to look at them, "How could I be so oblivious?" She said more as a statement than a question, "Fulke forged these for me…" dropping her daggers on the ground. "This throwing knife?" She held up to show Kara, "Fulke's design," She turned and threw it into a post nearby. The blade sticking out of the wood.
Kara wasn't sure what to do in this situation. Lena's whole world came crashing down on her in minutes. Everything she knew, everything about her was forged from lies. Her name, her family, nothing was as it seemed.
Lena unbuckled her belt that had her satchel of herbs, her sheath for her daggers, and her knives attached, and dropped it to the floor. She unclipped her hood, letting the long cape-like material fall to the floor.
It was like watching someone rid themselves of everything bad. Kara wanted to look away, but she couldn't. It was as if Lena needed her there. She needed her to be witness to her rebirth.
Next was the buckles that held her armour to her chest, once undone, it fell to the ground. Then it was her gauntlets. One by one they were discarded.
She was left in her worn black shirt, and black pants she wore under her armour, and her boots, "This is what's left, I am nothing without my gear," Lena said as she turned around to face Kara.
Kara took a few steps forward to Lena realizing she could take this one of two ways, "I'm sure you could still kick my ass fine like this," She chose to try and lighten the mood.
Lena couldn't help the smile that came across her lips at the comment, "You're probably right."
"I am right," Kara picked up a dagger. "This is just a tool that can be replaced. Your gear can be replaced. You are what makes you, you. You're standing in our armory, there are more than enough things here for you to use." She motioned to the weapons around them. "I have plenty of gear that you can use if you want."
"Just like that…" Lena wasn't sure she was hearing what she was hearing. Someone accepted her without question.
Kara nodded, "Yes, just like that. Even if Eliza wouldn't have said what she said, you being part of the creed, wouldn't change my suggestion. You get to choose who you are here and now. If that's still a warrior, great, if you want to be a farmer, that's your choice."
Lena stared at Kara curiously, "I have never met anyone like you before."
Kara shrugged, "Guess I'm one of a kind."
"You are…" Lena couldn't help to feel this overwhelming sense of love for the person in front of her. She'd never had someone that believed in her as much as Kara did. Even with them being on opposite sides up until recently. She was always there for her.
She took the last couple steps so she was in Kara's space. She leaned in connecting her lips to Kara's. She wasn't sure what she was doing, it just felt right.
It took a moment before Kara wrapped her arms around Lena's waist, pulling her closer to deepen the kiss.
They'd kissed each other before, but this one felt different. This one felt like coming home. Their lips moved against each other, relishing in the feel of each other's lips against their own. Hands roaming.
Kara was so into the kiss, she hadn't realized Lena had started unbuckling Kara's armour. "Wait, wait," She stopped Lena from completing her mission.
Lena took a step back feeling like she'd just crossed a line, "I'm sorry, I just thought…"
Kara shook her head, "Oh, no, that's not what I mean. I think we should move this somewhere private. Rather than the armory where anyone could walk in on us."
Lena couldn't help the smirk that appeared across her lips, "Lead the way."
"What about your gear?" Kara questioned, wondering about everything on the ground.
"It's not my gear anymore," Lena answered matter-of-factly. "Except this," She picked up a bag of silver from her belt that was laying on the ground.
"Okay, follow me," Kara said, walking out of the room.
XXXXXXX
Kara walked up to her room, and stood aside for Lena to enter first. She stepped in, and as soon as she closed the door, Lena pushed her up against it, connecting their lips in a fire.
In the entire time they'd known each other, there were plenty of moments where Kara suggested they get together. Up until this moment, Lena didn't feel like herself, she didn't know who she was. Now that she felt free, she wanted to experience everything she held back from wanting.
Kara wrapped her hands around Lena's waist holding her close. She would be lying if she hadn't wanted to be with Lena since she first met her, but now, it felt like so much more. It wasn't just about getting with someone, she might not see again, it was about giving into this new relationship.
Now that they were alone, Lena unhooked Kara's cloak, and started unbuckling her armor.
"Let me help you," Kara pulled back to pull off the rest of her armor. Her gauntlets fell to the ground, her belt, her armour, she even took off her boots. She was left in her worn out grey under clothes.
Once she was free of her armour, she looked up only to find Lena laying on her bed completely naked. She felt her mouth go dry at the sight in front of her.
"Like what you see?" Lena asked, smirking from ear to ear. She beckoned Kara to come closer.
Kara nodded as she pulled off her own shirt, and pulled off the rest of her clothes before she bridged the distance between them, "You are beautiful." She said, as she couldn't help but to look over Lena's body. From her surprisingly pale skin, to her toned abs, and defined arms. Kara wasn't expecting it, but she should have known. Someone that climbs up in trees, had to have strong core muscles to do that.
As Kara neared Lena, she reached up and pulled Kara down onto her, their lips connecting once again. She wanted to remember this moment. Kara was just as fit as she was, if not a little more. Her arms were a little more defined than her own, probably because of the sword she swung around, and she was a lot more tan.
Kara laid down on top of Lena, her left thigh sliding in between Lena's legs, creating just a little bit of friction against her center. She let her left hand trace down Lena's front to her right breast, and let her fingers play with her nipple. The sensation, causing Lena to shiver a little at the contact. It was clear from how she was responding that she hadn't been touched this way in a while. She kissed Lena's jaw, and down to her neck, she gently suckled the skin just below her earlobe.
"Keep going," Lena whispered, closing her eyes as she tried to move her hips against Kara's thigh to get more friction.
Kara recognized what Lena was doing, and moved her thigh closer to her center, moving it against her just enough to feel a sense of relief fall over Lena. The same movement created pleasure for herself as Lena's left leg was under Kara's center. She was half trying to pleasure Lena, but half herself.
It was like Lena sensed what Kara was doing and immediately traced her right hand down Kara's body until it touched her sensitive nub.
Kara jerked upwards as she was a little surprised by the contact, as more often than not when she was having sex with someone, they very rarely wanted to pleasure her. It was unfortunately, in more cases than not, a one-sided situation. Women wanted to have sex with a strong warrior, they didn't much care for giving afterwards.
"Did I do something wrong?" Lena was a little surprised at the reaction.
Kara shook her head, in the words of Lena, "Keep going." She said as she relaxed again, her center falling back down to where Lena's hand was.
Lena brought her hand back up to her mouth, as she wet two of her fingers, before reaching back down to Kara's center. She rubbed against Kara's clit, a side to side motion. She could tell it was working when Kara became so consumed that she slowly stopped kissing Lena's neck. It was like she'd never really been touched there by someone else before. Or at least not recently.
Kara felt herself building up, she was going to come over such a small movement, but she didn't care. It felt so good having someone pleasure her. So much so that she leaned back down to connect her lips with Lena's. They lips moved against each other, in haste, it was sloppy, and messy but Kara wanted to hold onto this moment.
Lena's fingers moved quicker, back and forth, back and forth, it was becoming intoxicating even for Lena. She tried her best to keep the movement going as Kara ravished her lips. As her hands played with her nipple.
Before she knew it, she could feel Kara's body tensing up as her orgasm ripped through her body. Kara gripped onto the furs below as she hadn't had such an intense orgasm in such a long time.
After a few moments, Kara's body fell limp against Lena's, she lifted up for a moment to kiss Lena, "Thank you."
Lena left her fingers where they were for a moment, wet with Kara's juices on them. Once she was sure Kara was done, she started to move them again to get her riled up again.
"Oh no," Kara stopped her lifting up so Lena's fingers weren't touching her again. "It's my turn." She turned Lena so her head was against the pillows now, as she placed one more kiss on Lena's lips, before placing kisses down her body slowly.
It was excruciatingly torturous for Lena, each kiss left was like fire to her skin, as it was clear what Kara was aiming for, what she was going to be doing.
As she neared Lena's belly button, Kara licked the button, before leaving another kiss. She moved further down, kissing the inside of Lena's thigh.
"Kara…" She pleaded wanting Kara to get to where she wanted her most.
To give a taste of what was to come, she situated herself between Lena's legs, and slowly licked up between Lena's lips, stopping to suck on her sensitive nub for a second.
She felt a shiver from her toes, through her legs, up her back at the sensation, "Kara…" Lena said again.
"Hmm…" Kara hummed against Lena's center, she let go of a breath blowing onto Lena's center. She could feel another shiver rise up through Lena's body.
She leaned back in and continued her work. She licked Lena's center, stopping to suck on her clit. Over and over, she repeated this process, until she added a finger, entering Lena with the finger, as she continued licking Lena's nub. She added another finger, as it was clear there was enough room for it.
Lena reached down, her fingers running through Kara's blonde locks, as she tried to pull the woman closer to her center. She needed more, wanted more.
Kara took this hint and sped up her movements, her fingers moving faster, her tongue and lips sliding against her nub with more purpose. She wanted Lena to have just as good of an orgasm as she was given.
Moments later, Lena's toes were curling, her fingers gripping at the furs below them, as she felt her orgasm tear through her body. She hadn't felt one like this in a long time. Kara wouldn't let her off so easily either as she continued her movements even as the orgasm was moving through her body. It wasn't as quick mind you, but she was still down there waiting. Waiting for the orgasm to subside so she could rile her up again.
It worked too. As soon as her orgasm subsided, Kara brought her right back up to that level, and within minutes she was convulsing again.
She hadn't been with someone so… thorough. It wasn't about getting off and then moving on. Kara was, for lack of a better word, worshipping her body. It was like she wanted to find all of the spots on her body that would send her over the edge.
XXXXXXX
The next morning, Lena slowly opened her eyes to find Kara rummaging through her wardrobe. She yawned, "What are you doing?"
Kara looked over to the voice in her bed, "I am looking for all of my gear so you can find something to wear. How did you sleep?"
"Better than I have in a long time. Thank you," Lena answered, still laying in bed under the furs. "What about you?"
"For the limited sleep I was able to get, great," Kara grinned remembering the night before, and all the fun they had. "I have a multitude of armour you could use, and when you've done that we can go to the armory where you can choose some weapons."
"Are you sure?" Lena was surprised that Kara was being serious the day before about her taking some of her armour.
"Of course," Kara nodded. "I have too much anyways."
Lena took this as an invitation, and stood up from the bed, throwing on her undergarments and the black shirt and pants she was wearing the night before. "Okay, what choices do I have?"
"Well, I have this deep blue set, or I have this darker set, I have a set that doesn't cover up well…" Kara rattled off all of the sets she had in front of her.
Lena lost track of what Kara was saying as her eyes landed on a piece of armour she might not have considered before. It was a black set with gold lining, and filigree lined throughout the chest piece, down the front tails and around the hood. It also had a red sash from the belt, and something about it spoke to Lena. "What about this one?"
Kara stopped what she was talking about and looked at the one Lena was looking at, "Oh, yeah that's a really good one. It would probably look really good on you."
Lena did just that, she picked up all the pieces and put them on. Kara helped put the gauntlets on, and clasped the cloak on. Lena stood in place, and looked at the gear. She felt powerful in it. Like nothing could stop her. "How do I look?"
Kara nodded, "You look great. It's funny that you chose that set because it's the set I was given when I became a full-fledged hidden one. They call it the Hidden One set."
Lena looked at Kara curiously, "Really?"
"Yeah," Kara nodded again, as she went to put on her own gear. "It's almost like something told you this was who you were meant to be. Not that the gear should persuade you to be anything you don't want to be. You can keep this set, regardless of if you join us or not."
"Thank you, Kara," Lena said, happy that Kara reiterated that she wouldn't have to be a hidden one if she didn't want to be. She took that moment to lean in and kiss Kara on the cheek.
A light pink dusted Kara's cheeks, "You're welcome. Shall we find you some weapons?"
Lena nodded, "Sure."
They walked over to the armoury, in search of some weapons.
"So, what do you think you want? We could find you some new daggers, or a sword, an axe, the vikings seem to like their axes, or maybe a spear…" Kara put out the suggestion to her as they walked into the room with all of the weapons. "Oh and I guess you'll need a new bow too."
Lena shook her head, "No, my bow is one I built a long time ago. This has nothing to do with Fulke."
"You built it?" Kara asked, "May I take a look?"
Lena handed Kara the bow that was still attached to her armour sitting on the ground of the armoury, "Here you go."
Kara held it in her arms, "Wow, it's so light." She stretched as if she were about to shoot an arrow, "Any chance you could make me one?"
Lena smiled, "Sure, how about after we defeat Fulke, and I'll build you one."
"Deal," Kara nodded excitedly, not only for the fact that Lena said she'd build her one, but that Lena still wanted to be around her after this fight. "So what are you thinking?"
"Well, I could go back to the daggers, and use them as a way to get back at Fulke, or I could use something else," Lena thought aloud. "The axes are similar in length to the daggers, just a little longer, which would give a similar fighting style, or I could use a sword."
"What if you had an axe and a dagger?" Kara suggested. "Then you have something you're familiar with, and something new."
Lena turned to look at Kara holding a dagger in one hand and an axe in the other, "That is an interesting suggestion."
"We could even throw in a shield if you wanted, then you'd have that extra protection if you want," Kara added.
Lena shook her head, "I haven't needed a shield this entire time, I won't need one now, but I do like your suggestion. Best of both worlds."
Kara nodded, "That's what I was thinking. It would be like having the old to the new."
Lena walked over and picked up the axe, and the dagger, "Thank you." She placed the dagger into the sheath on her belt, but was stuck with the axe. "Do you have the sheath for this?"
Kara walked over with a rung of leather to attach to Lena's belt, she bent down to attach it, before she picked up the axe and placed it into the hole. The blade in the open, but secure. "There you go."
"Thank you," Lena answered, a little surprised Kara did that without pause.
Alex came around the corner into the armoury, "There you guys are. Come on, J'onn has a pretty good plan for defeating Fulke."
"Be right there," Kara said, waving off Alex.
"Okay, we're in the planning room," Alex said, before turning around and walking out of the room.
"Are you ready for this?" Kara asked, wanting to make sure Lena was good before they walked out. There was a good chance they wouldn't be able to talk like this again, until after the fight was over.
Lena nodded, "I am ready for whatever comes. I'll meet you at the planning room, I'm just going to get Sam. She should be a part of this."
Kara nodded, "I agree. I'll meet you there."
Lena leaned in and connected their lips, "Okay." She looked at Kara one more time before walking away.
