When presented with the fact that you, some of the most insignificant students of your school, had to kill a tentacle monster who had blown up a good chunk of the moon and asked to be your teacher for your last year of junior high or he'll blow up the earth. The normal response amounts to breaking down in hysterics or a slow comprehension of how your life had gotten out of control. That being said, Yuma Tsukumo was class 3E's resident idiot so neither applies to him

" So do you have a name sir or can we call you King Exlosion Murder ?" The red-eyed boy asked once the assassination plan and tools were explained to them.

Sound of middle school students choking on their breath echoes throughout the classroom as Fuwa yells of 'You can't make that reference! It's one year too early!' was soundly ignored.

The humanoid octopus merely laughed. "I'm afraid I don't really have the kind of name you just give to people. How about you guys go ahead and give me a new one? Perhaps something shorter than 'King Explosion Murder' ?"

"I have an idea! What about…"

"Korosensei!"

The trio of students huddled around the back corner of E-class collectively yelped when their new teacher suddenly appeared in front of them. For his part, the now named Korosensei was met with various cards thrown at his face. The yellow octopus caught all the cards with ease, gathering them up and taking a good look at the various pictures depicted on the cards.

" Sorry for scaring you, children. I was just curious about what you're doing this early morning." A yellow tentacle handed the cards back to a flustered Fuwa Yuzuki. " Correct me if I'm wrong but is this the popular new game, Duel Monster?"

"You know about the game, sir?" Fuwa's opponent, Sugaya Sosuke, hesitantly asked.

Korosensei nodded, an unreadable smile on his face. "Of course, a good assassin always keeps tabs on the current news. Other than the explosion on the moon, Duel Monster and the Millennium Corp's advancement in holographic technology had been all over the news."

"Well, last I heard that kind of tech isn't available outside of official tournaments." Sugaya sighed.

Fuwa on the other hand laughed sheepishly. "It's not like we can afford in the first place, those things must have cost a fortune. That aside, would you like to join us, sir?"

"If you're willing to teach me how to play."

"I'll do it !" Korosensei flinched when Yuma Tsukumo was gone from his seat and appeared right next to him. "Maybe after that you and I can have a match, sir!"

He waved for his classmate to get back to their game before grabbing his teacher by the tentacle and dragged him to his desk. Pulling out a deck of cards from his pocket, the boys separate them into different groups.

" We can start with monster cards…" Yuma began.

Indulging his student, Korosensei sat and listened as the boy explained the basics to the octopus. In between learning about the game, he silently studied his student.

Yuma Tsukumo, brash, energetic, and well-known for being the class clown. Based on his file, the boy was sent to E-class due to his failing grades, a common reason within E-class. At first glance, one could conclude that Yuma is simply an idiot with no real ambition, easy to overlook. But from what little Korosensei had seen of the boy, that could not be further from the truth. Yuma might not be the sharpest tool in the shed but the boy certainly has the drive. Yuma worked hard and although he might present displeasure in some subjects, Yuma was not the kind of person to give up halfway.

Even now, just by watching Yuma explain the mechanics behind Duel Monster, he could feel the passion radiate off the boy. From monsters to spells and traps cards, Yuma went over them with infectious enthusiasm.

As the rest of the students poured in, they were greeted with the sight of their teacher dueling one of their fellow students. A group of them gathered around the two, eager to see the outcome of the duel. The obvious winner would have been Korosensei, considering how high the octopus IQ was. And yet….

"I activate [Hi-Five the Sky] allowing my [One-Eyes Skill Gainer] to attack a second time this turn. Which brings your LP down to 0 which means I WON!" Yuma cheered as he leaped out of his seat. " Man, that was intense."

"Indeed, and I got the distinct feeling that you didn't pull any punches back there, Yuma." For all accounts, they were both on equal ground. Sure, he was using Yuma's spare deck. But he was allowed time to go through it before the match and it was rather well built. Adding with the fact that Yuma had used his deck as an example when teaching him, giving him the knowledge of all the cards available to the boy.

Yuma grinned. " I just thought that you would like it better if I go all out."

" It was a good game. So good in fact that I've decided to give a special tutor after school. How does Wednesday sound?"

All traces of happiness were drained from Yuma's face. The boy fell to his knees with tears streaming down his face, looking dejected. Behind him, Terasaka loudly laughed at the boy's fate.

" Oh don't be like that, Yuma. We can duel each other again afterward. I'll even get my own deck this time."

Faster than anyone, save for their teacher, Yuma immediately bounced back. The points of his hair jab Terasaka in the eyes causing the other boy to let out a few curses.

"Really, sir? Then Wednesday sounds great!"

Korosensei laughed as he watched Yuma jump around. The boy had potential, one just needed to find the right tools to nurture it.
