Chapter 18-Building
So I thought about doing chapters on them rebuilding Woodbury. But none of the chapters I tried to write was fun. So here we are.
One month later
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl walks out of his apartment with his crossbow. He walks downstairs and goes down the street. He looks at the gate, which they had rebuilt and now had some smaller walls for cover. Daryl walks into a building with a garage door and looks at his bike, which he had been working on. He sets his crossbow down and pulls his vest out. He sets it down and starts to work on his bike.
Tomas's P.O.V
Tomas walks into the infirmary and looks around. He walks through the infirmary and goes to the back room where Alice was doing inventory. He up behind her and wraps his arms around her waist. He kisses her shoulder. "If Stevens walks in here. She'll kill me," Alice tells him.
"We have kissed once, and you are always here," Tomas says. Alice looks at him.
"I know," Alice tells him. "Stevens has been busy teaching others, and Hershel has been talking with Merle about farming. I'm the only doctor unless something bad happens,"
"I know," Tomas says. "How is Tiny?"
"Same as he was yesterday," Alice says as she walks over to the man who has been lying in bed the last month. "He uses a lot of resources. Stevens might talk to the council in simple terms. Pulling the plug,"
"We might have to," Tomas says as he looks at Tiny. "I gotta go,"
"I'll come by today," Alice tells Tomas, who nods. He kisses her head and leaves.
Merle's P.O.V
Merle stood on top of the apartment building, a watchtower up there. "You know. Last time you were on a roof. Rick locked you up," Lori says from behind him.
"He tries it again, and I'll throw him off," Merle tells her. He looks at her. "What do you need?"
"Can I help?" Lori asks as she looks at the wood.
"I don't need a housewife," Merle says as he looks away from here.
"Listen, asshole. Everybody is treating me like a piece of glass, and I feel useless. Rick won't let me leave the apartment much because he's worried. Please," Lori says. Merle looks back at her.
"Okay," Merle says as he stands up. He walks over to the toolbox. "I better not get shit from your husband,"
"I'm not his child," Lori says. Merle nods as he hands her a hacksaw.
"Start cutting wood," Merle tells Lori, who nods as Merle goes back to building the tower.
"How big is this going to be?" Lori asks.
"A couple of meters off the ground. We have reinforced the walls. Now we need to have a better view," Merle tells her.
"When are Oscar, Abraham, Alisha, Martinez, and Haley have been gone for over a week," Lori says.
"They were looking for seeds and animals. It might take a little bit," Merle says. "Shane, Rick, Jimmy, Randall, and T-dog are building a horse stable. Philip, Morgan, Andrea, Glenn, Maggie, and Morales are working on the animal pens. Hershel and Beth are working on the garden," Lori nods as they continue to work.
Abraham's P.O.V
Abraham and Oscar shut the horse trailer and look at each other. "There are the horses," Abraham says as the radio goes off.
"Hey, Abe. We may have found something," Alisha says.
"Animals?" Abraham asks.
"No," Martinez says. "We are on the other side of the property," Abraham and Oscar climb into the truck and drive to the other side of the property. Abraham stops the truck and climbs out. They walk up to Martinez, who was looking into a hole of dead bodies. "What the holy fuck?" Abraham says as he bends down.
"Who the hell would do this?" Alisha asks.
"How many bodies are in here. And how many of them are people and not walkers?" Haley asks.
"We may need to cut our trip short. We are less than 4 hours from Woodbury. The people that attacked us last time were about the same distance. These aren't all walkers. A would say ten never turned," Abraham says.
"We have horses. That will have to do for now," Oscar says.
"These could be the same people who attacked Daryl and Rosita. I mean some of them are missing clothes," Alisha says.
"Get in the cars. You have the hay loaded?" Oscar asks Martinez, who nods.
"Let's get home," Abraham says as he climbs into the truck. Martinez climbs into his truck, and they start to head for Woodbury.
Shane's P.O.V
Shane looked at Carl, who was working beside Rick. Rick looks at Dale as he walks over. "I thought you were with Lori," Rick says.
"She's up on the roof with Merle," Dale tells him. He hands Randall a bottle of water.
"Why?" Rick asks him.
"She's helping him build the watchtower," Dale tells him. Rick drops his hammer.
"She shouldn't be doing any work," Rick says as he walks away.
"Rick-," T-dog starts to say.
"Let him go," Randall says.
"You want to throw me some water, Dale?" Shane asks Dale, who throws him a bottle of water. "Thanks," Shane says.
"So, where's Daryl?" Dale asks.
"Working on his bike. Rosita was in the armory with Michonne and Andre," Shane tells him. Dale nods as he starts to head to where Morgan and Philip were working.
Dale's P.O.V
Dale walks over to Philip and Morgan. Philip now had a prosthetic hand. Daune and Penny were not far away from them. Dale hands them both bottles of water. "How is it going?" Dale asks them.
"Good, Glenn, Andrea, and Maggie are getting more wood," Morales says as Dale hands him a bottle of water. Dale puts three more water bottles down.
"How much longer do you think it will take until it's done?" Dale asks.
"A few more days," Morgan says. "Hopefully, by then, Abraham and his group are back," Dale nods as he sees Glenn, Maggie, and Andrea coming back.
"Well, I'll let you get back to work. I have to go see Hershel and Beth," Dale says. Morgan and Philip nod as Dale walks away. Dale walks for a few minutes and sees Hershel and Beth. He walks up to them. "I am on water duty today," Dale says to Hershel, who smiles.
"Thank you when spring rolls around. We'll be ready to plan. We are almost done here. Winter will be rolling around soon," Hershel says.
"Yes, it will. Hopefully, we have most of the work done by then, so we won't have to sit out in the cold all day," Dale tells Hershel. "You want some help?"
"Sure," Hershel says. Dale nods as he starts to help them.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl looked at the door to the building he was in as it opened. "I feel like you did the same thing you are doing now before the turn," Rosita says as she walks in.
"I thought you were in the armory today," Daryl says as he stands up.
"I was. We finished early. Michonne went to go with the horse stable," Rosita says. "How is that going?"
"Good, those fuckers did more damage than I thought," Daryl tells her as he sits down.
"You may have been able to work on it sooner if you stayed in bed," Rosita says.
"My leg got infected, and I healed. I'm fine," Daryl says. "Gonna find those bastards,"
"Why? I didn't die. You didn't die. Why put yourself in more danger?" Rosita asks him.
"Because I know we aren't the only people they did that to. But we got away because Glenn found us. Luck saved us," Daryl tells her. "I'm not going to let them live and continue to do that. They could hit us again, and this time. They might kill one of us," Daryl says. Rosita nods.
"You want some help?" Rosita asks. "I have some experience,"
"Sure, come on," Daryl says. Rosita nods as she walks over to him. She sets her hat down and starts to work.
Merle's P.O.V
Merle was hammering a nail into a piece of the wood when the door to the roof flew open. He sets his hammer down and looks at Rick. "How can we help you, Officer friendly?" Merle asks. Rick ignores Merle and looks at Lori.
"You shouldn't be working," Rick says to her.
"I'm fine, Rick. Stevens didn't say I had to stay in bed all day," Lori says to him.
"Yeah, Officer friendly. Doc knows what she is talking about," Merle says.
"This isn't your problem, Merle," Rick says.
"She doesn't want to be a housewife anymore. She ain't bothering anybody," Merle says. "She's trying to carry her weight just like the rest of us,"
"Come on," Rick says. Merle stands up.
"Okay, Rick, why don't you get back to your job, or we can reenact what happened in Atlanta. Just this time, you'll be T-dog, and there won't be an Officer friendly to handcuff me to a pipe. I may have one hand, but I can kick your ass," Merle says. "You have a horse stable to build. She'll be fine if the baby decides to pop out a couple of months before it's supposed to. I'll let you know,"
"I'll be fine," Lori tells Rick, who leaves. Merle grabs his hammer and gets back to work.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl and Rosita were working on his bike when the door opened. "Daryl, Abe's back," Glenn says. Daryl nods and gets up.
"Come on," Daryl tells Rosita as he grabs his crossbow and vest. He puts his vest on and walks outside with Rosita following him. Daryl walks up the truck as Abraham gets out. "What's all in there?"
"Horses," Oscar says. "We found something,"
"What?" Shane asked from where he stood.
"Council meeting," Martinez says.
"Okay, come on," Shane says as they walk away. Merle, Shane, Daryl, Rosita, Tomas, Oscar, T-dog, Martinez, and Abraham go into the building they used for meetings. Shane shuts the door and sits at the table.
"So, what did you find?" T-dog asks.
"A pit of bodies," Abraham says. "Walkers and humans. Some of them were robbed of their clothes,"
"We think this might be the same people that attacked Daryl and Rosita," Martinez says.
"How far?" Tomas asks.
"Less than four hours," Abraham says. "It seems like there is a deep hole of bullshit waiting to fuck our worlds more than they already are,"
"Seems that way," Shane says. "Did you see anything weird coming back?"
"No," Oscar says.
"If these are the same guys. They have been killing people for a little bit," Rosita says.
"Nobody leaves in groups of less than four people. If these guys do attack, we need to make sure everybody can defend themselves. For now, we put building the animal pends on hold. We need the focus on the watchtowers and horse stables," Daryl says.
"Everybody in agreement?" Shane asks. Everybody nods. "Okay, let's get back to work," Everybody nods as they stand up and leave.
Lori's P.O.V
Lori walks out of the room that they were having the kids stay in. Carl, Andre, Daune, and Penny shared the room on the third floor. She looks at Philip. "You okay?" She asks him.
"Yeah, just weird not having her in-home," Philip says.
"It's good for her to be with the other kids," Lori says. "Goodnight Philip,"
"Night," Philip says as Lori walks into the apartment she shared with Rick. She looks at Rick, who was sitting at the table.
"You still mad?" Lori asks him as she sits down. Rick doesn't say anything. "Whatever. Goodnight," Lori says as she lays down. Rick sighs as he goes to the couch.
Thanks for reading. This starts the next saga of this story, and it will focus on character relationships and the group that attacked Daryl and Rosita. You saw a little bit of a romantic relationship between Tomas and Alice, which I have been hinting at for a few chapters. They still have a lot to go through as well as the other characters. As always, suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
