Chapter 19-The Final Choice

Axel's P.O.V

Night

Axel stood on top of the wall with his gun in hand. He looks at Shumpert, who was beside him. It was around three in the morning when they heard a car. They all raised their guns as four trucks showed up at the gate with men inside them, all aiming their guns at the wall. A man gets out of the truck upfront and looks at them. "You shoot your other wall will go down quickly," The man at the front says. "My name is James, and I am the leader of the men who attacked your friend's bike," James says. "Send someone to get your leaders," Axel nods to Shumpert, who nods as he leaves. Axel watches the men. A few minutes later, Shane and Daryl come onto the wall.

"Where are the others?" Axel asks.

"Checking the other walls," Daryl says as he looks at James.

"I see you have healed fine," James says. "How is your lady?"

"She's fine," Daryl tells him. "What do you want?"

"Your friends killed my brother," James says. "I'm not a man who holds grudges, but I am here to give you a choice,"

"And what is that?" Shane asks.

"Places like this shouldn't exist. We should all be put to the test. Places like this were part of the old world. In this new world, we'll survive like we always should have. In the woods," James says. "You have until midnight tomorrow to leave this place, or we will come in and kill you all. There are so many more of us. This leaves you 21 hours. Make your choice," James climbs into the truck, and they leave. Daryl looks at Shane.

"Gather everybody in front of the infirmary," Daryl says. Everybody nods as they separate.

About an hour later, the people of Woodbury were gathered in front of the infirmary. Daryl and Shane stood at the stairs of the infirmary. "These people are serious. They could be lying about how many people they have, but if they aren't. They could kill us all," Shane says.

"You don't have to stay. If you want, get what supplies you have and leave. Nobody here is being forced." Daryl says to them. "No matter what you decide. Somebody will take the kids and leave,"

"Gather what you have and leave if you want. If you want to stay and fight, then we'll fight," Shane says. Everybody nods as they slowly separate. Philip walks up to them.

"Morgan and I will take the kids and go," Philip says.

"You all should go," Daryl says to them.

"You aren't leaving?" Oscar asks.

"No, these bastards aren't going to stop. For all we know, they'll kill us after we leave," Daryl says to them.

"You can't kill them all," Abraham says.

"I can if I blow them to hell," Daryl says. "We have the bombs that we've found, and we can use them,"

"Then let's blow these bastards to hell," Rosita says. "If you're staying, so are we. Like you said, these guys will keep killing,"

"I'll go with Philip and Morgan. I shouldn't be here," Lori says. Daryl nods.

"We have a few hours to set up. Let's get to work," Daryl says as they leave the infirmary.

"Tiny," Tomas says.

"Shit," Daryl says. "We can't move him. Go get ready. I'll deal with him," They nod as they walk away.

"We'll dig a grave," Axel says. Oscar nods as he follows him. Daryl walks into the infirmary and sees Stevens and Alice gathering supplies.

"You two are leaving?" Daryl asks them.

"Yeah," Stevens says. "We'll be helpful with the others," Daryl nods as he pulls his knife out. He walks up to Tiny.

"What are you doing?" Alice asks.

"We can't leave him alive. They'll just kill him," Daryl tells them before he stabs Tiny in the side of the head. He pulls his knife out and puts it back in his sheath. He moves the gurney out of the infirmary.

Rick's P.O.V

Rick walks into the room he shares with Lori. He looks at her. "You aren't coming, are you?" Lori asks.

"No. Our group is staying, and so is Daryl's," Rick says.

"Even Hershel and Beth?" Lori asks.

"Yeah," Rick says. He walks up to Lori. "I know we have our issues, and if I make it out of this. We'll talk about them," Lori nods as Rick kisses her. Rick leaves the room and goes over to Shane, who shuts his door.

"Abraham and Martinez are setting up traps," Shane says.

"One last fight, partner," Rick says.

"Hell right," Shane says as he goes down the stairs. Rick follows them as they head outside.

No one's P.O.V

The group spends the day setting traps and loading cars so people could leave Woodbury. Around 11:00 P.M the only people left in Woodbury were Daryl, Shane, Abraham, Rosita, Rick, Dale, Randall, Hershel, Beth, Maggie, Oscar, Axel, Tomas, Martinez, Haley, Morales, Andrea, T-dog, and Alisha were left in the town. They were split up inside the town, ready to set the traps off when the group arrived. Daryl was at the north wall with Rosita, Beth, Glenn, Maggie, Hershel, and Abraham. Shane was with Rick, Morales, Andrea, and Jimmy at the east wall. Haley, Martinez, Dale, Randall, and Axel were at the west wall. Merle, T-dog, Oscar, Axel, and Alisha were at the South wall.

They waited in silence for about an hour when they heard the trucks. Daryl pulls out his radio. "The second they break the walls down. Blow them to hell. Good luck, everybody," Daryl says. Daryl watches as the truck goes through the north wall, and Daryl presses the button that sets the bomb off on the wall. Explosions go off around the town. They get behind cover as more trucks start to come through the flames.

"They weren't kidding," Glenn says. Daryl nods as the truck stops. Daryl pulls the pin on a grenade and throws it on the truck. It blows up as gunshots go off.

Shane shot a man in the head as he hit behind a building. He looks at Rick. "We have a plan?" Shane asks him.

"We killed a good amount of them. Now we need to get the hell out of here," Rick says. Shane nods as they move cover. They move behind a truck. A bullet goes through Jimmy's stomach, making him fall to the ground and groan.

"Help me," Jimmy says to them. Morales shoots another man. Shane looks at Jimmy and shoots the teen in the head.

"What the hell?" Andrea asks.

"He would have died anyway. Follow me," Shane says as Rick shoots a man. Shane moves beside a building and pulls a grenade out of his bag.

"What about the others?" Morales asks as he covers them.

"We can't find them. All this noise is going to attract walkers," Shane says as he pulls the pin and throws it against the wall. They move back as the grenade goes off, blowing a hole in the wall. Morales, Andrea, and Rick crawl through it. Shane follows them as they head into the woods.

Daryl shot a man in the head as his radio went off. "Baby brother were out," Merle says.

"We are, too," Haley says.

"Go," Daryl says to Rosita as they move to a hole in the wall. They go through the wall and run into the woods. They get a little bit away from Woodbury as they see the town as it starts to burn.

"Now what?" Rosita asks him.

"I don't know," Daryl says as they leave. They see walkers as they head for Woodbury.

So this was a weird chapter. This is the end of this story. I know that seems weird, but I felt this was the best way to end it with the fate of this character unknown. This story will have a sequel at some point. But this one has been hard to plan, so I am going to work on some other things while I plan the sequel. I hope you understand and I will see you next time.
