Today it was Millers turn to be on AID car with Hugh and given it wasn't his favourite part of the job but there were a lot worse parts of the job as well.
"IM PREGNANT, SAVE MY BABY" came the scream of the crash victim that they had just extricated and if he was not wrong, had not a second ago been unconscious.
"were going to do everything that we can maam to help you both we just need to get you to the hospital" Miler stated as he rushed the patient to the ambulance, loading her into the vehicle as quickly as humanly possible.
"NO, YOU DON'T GET IT, I'VE ALREADY STARTED LAOUR ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH', my water broke" she panted out.
"we were on our way to the hospital when my stupid husband crashed the car. ARH tell me he's going to be ok , I can't do this without him"
"Hughes inform Grey Sloan that we have an incoming labouring mother coming in" He shouted as he shut the door just wanting to get to the hospital as fast as they can to help both of the patients.
Looking at the patient, Miller noticed that she was starting to panic with a rise in blood pressure and heart rate. "MY HUSAND, MY HUSBAND WHERE IS HE I NEED HIM HERE. TELL ME HE'S GOING TO BE OK. OH MY GOD IT HURT SO MUCH GET ME THE DRUGS".
"Listen to me, OK look at me, yes just look at me" making sure that he had eye contact with the patient before he continued, he really did need her to calm down pretty soon otherwise it would make the baby even more stressed.
Getting the patient to take timed breathes.
"OK that's good, your husband is in good hands. OK and their working on helping him right now OK they have him and we have you ok. And I'm sure right now he would want you to focus on you and this baby right here and now ok".
"Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh IT HURTS" she screamed as she nodded along with what Miller was just saying.
"I NEED TO PUSH"
"DON'T PUSH YET WE'RE ALMOST THERE" Knowing that if she started to push now they would need to pull over and deliver the baby right there and then.
"Five minutes OK well be there in five minutes" knowing that she would need to start pushing soon but really knowing that she would be so much better off if a doctor could deliver the baby, just in case something was to go wrong.
Picking up the radio "Grey Sloan be prepared for immediate birth when we get to the hospital get OB on standby for when we get there" putting the radio back down, to focus back upon his patient trying to ensure that she stayed calm and focus on getting her to breathe.
"were pulling up now" he said as they started to pull up to the hospital seeing the entrance now, thinking god that the accident wasn't further away from the hospital.
Suddenly the door to the ambulance went flying open.
"what do we have?" came an unfamiliar accented voice, as said person started to climb into the ambulance with them instead of them bringing the patient out.
"Hi am Doctor DeLuca, is it OK to check you out?" she asked not moving before she got the patient, knowing that the last thing she would want is someone looking without permission.
Seeing her nod, Carina moved down to the business end for labour. Sighing "OK what is you name mama?" Carina asked as she looked back at the patient face.
"Mary my name is Mary RRRRH, and that's that's your gonna deliver their name is Dani. We don't know if its a boy or girl so we just went with Dani"
"Well Mary it looks like Dani wants to meet you" seeing that the labour was already quite progressed meaning this wasn't going to take long, probably not mama first bambino.
"what already it took hours the last time?" starting to panic "My husband is meant to be here"
"It is OK you are crowing so baby wants to come out so they are, and we have fire fighter ...?" just now realising that she was not aware of who the other fighters were in the ambulance.
"Miller Maam" Realising that it was his time to speak up.
"Yes, Miller and I will be here with you the whole way" she said as she saw the patient grab at Miller's hand, squeezing while simultaneously screaming, a scream that would definitely be heard from the other side of the hospital.
"Right now, you are crowing and that means that we can not move you until Dani is out into the world. As if we move you now it will risk both you and the bambino OK so best course of action is in the ambulance"
Nodding "ARRRRHHH YES DO WHAT BEST FOR THE BABY" not caring where she gave birth, she was with a doctor, why did it matter if that then meant giving birth in an ambulance.
That being said Miller knew it was for the best but also well aware the mess he was going to have to clean up after this was done, why was birth never clean it was just so messy. With that he heard and felt a pop in his hand.
Wow that is impressive grip strength, he was definitely going to get his hand checked out after this god it already hurt.
"Well mama you are dilated so when you feel like you need to push. I need you to take a deep breath and then push OK"
"OK AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
"Keep going, keep going that's it the head is out" This might be one of the fastest births she had been involved in at this rate she was going to be home on time for a change. Quickly looking up at the other people seeing the look of pain on both of their faces.
"Are you alright right their fire fighter Miller" already knowing how much a pregnant woman could squash an individual's hand, she could tell that that hand already needed seeing too.
"Im fine doc, lets get this baby out" already knowing she was going to ask for more equipment, as such reaching up with his spare and uninjured hand to get what was needed.
"Thank you" taking the supplies from him to quickly get back to work knowing that little Dani wasn't going to wait any longer.
"Ok this should be it; I have a team that is waiting to take him and you into the hospital ok as soon as he is out. So one big push now".
ARRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHH
And just like that; the Baby was born. "and you have a little boy" lifting him up before cutting the cord so that the mother could see him, resting him on the mother's chest as soon as herself and miller had cleared the airway.
Handing both patients over to the team that was waiting to admit them into the hospital; and just like that they were gone; just like the rest of this birth they were suddenly gone.
Quiet it was suddenly quiet standing in the ambulance with a fire fighter she wasn't quite sure of but sure he was one of Maya's, as she had seen Vic behind her handing her the equipment that she needed for the duration of the birth, meaning that they must be from the same house.
"Let me see your hand"
"its ok Doc, it will be fine" already knowing that it wouldn't be as he was a paramedic but not wanting to disturb the doctor that probably had to get to her patients.
"Don't you need to get to your patient doc" quickly moving away from the impatient doctor that really did not look pleased with the answer that he had just given.
"STOP RIGHT THERE" and Miller for all his better senses stopped on the spot knowing better, after all of these years than to disobey an order.
"But Doctor DeLuca you need to get to your patient, and I need to get back to it"
"No stop your captain would not want you to go out with a broken hand, and that was my last patient so let me look at your hand otherwise I will tell Captain Bishop you went out injured" knowing that was a low blow but knowing that she needed to see his hand just to do a quick check.
"You know my Captain?" how did she know his captain when she didn't even know his name when they pulled up, who is this doctor?
"Oh, course she does" came the voice of one Victoria Hugh which he somehow had forgotten was even there, where had she been during the birth.
"What? Can somebody unconfuse me?" he asked as the doctor started to do a quick check of his hand, seeing it wasn't as bad as she expected.
"Ok your hand does not look too bad, but I would still like to send you for an Xray just to be sure, I don't want to send you out with only one hand, then Maya would not be happy with me".
"Wait Maya: how do you know the captain?" why wont one of them answer his question.
"Intimately" she answered with a smirk as she took her gloves off and started to head out of the ambulance to then stand next to Vic.
"Hello Vic, it is good to see you again" she finished with smirk she should really stop winding Maya's team up but it was just too much fun not to.
"Seriously does somebody want to catch me up because right now I feel lost" why couldn't they just catch him up already, he thought as he himself made his own way out of the ambulance taking the doctor's advice and get his hand X rayed.
"Let's get you in and get that hand scanned" starting to move towards the hospital expecting the firefighters to follow her, which they did.
"Is no body going to answer my question. Also, doc why you so pushy?" turning her head and sending him yet another smirk, seriously why does she keep smirking at me.
"Miller that's Carina, the captains Carina. I.e., the captain's mystery woman" Vic finished with a smirk knowing that miller would freak.
"WAIT WHAT THAT'S THE CAPTAIN'S MYSTERY WOMAN! Well, that explains the bossiness". They had all heard stories about this woman for what the last year or so and now she was there bossing him to get an x ray.
"Hey, I am not bossy I am just stubborn, so unless you want Maya hearing about this let's get moving to X ray".
No wonder this woman was bossy no sorry stubborn, she's with the captain that probably takes a strong-willed person knowing just how STUBBORN his captain is. So just followed knowing that disrespecting this Doctor would only end him in hot water.
"So, Carina got any funny stories about the captain that you can tell us?" he asked, if she was going to make him get an X ray he might as well try and get some funny stories about his captain at the same time.
"Wouldn't you like to know"
