I was with Danica and Jared. Luke was driving us to graduation. Once we got there, I couldn't see Mom or Dad. I knew Mom might be late if she had a case, but I thought at least Dad would be there waiting.
"Madyson-Cromwell Mills." The principle called my name. As I went up on stage to collect my diploma, I saw Luke clapping for me and I smiled, but it quickly became forced, because I still didn't see Mom or Dad. Then the principle called my two friends. "Danica Morales. Jared Morales."
As the handing out of the diplomas was finished and we all tossed our caps in the air before catching them, Dani, Jared, and I went outside with Luke. He took some pictures of the three of us before his phone rang. As he stepped away to take the call, I saw Dad. "Hey where were you?"
"I'm sorry," he said. I could tell he had been crying. "Dad, what's wrong?" I asked, a feeling of dread suddenly lodged itself in the pit of my stomach. Then Luke came back over. "Ichabod."
"Luke."
"Were you notified?" Luke asked my dad, to which he nodded.
"Dad, what's going on?"
"You mother Abbie," he hesitated to continue.
"Where's Mom?"
"She was killed in an automobile accident." Ichabod told his daughter.
"What?"
