Takes place during the events of the Valentine's Day dance in Season 2 episode 15, called Early 21st Century Romanticism. What if Annie had kissed Britta?
"Kiss her!" they heard some random guy yell as the two women pulled apart.
Britta glared at him in disgust as she clinged to the younger girl.
Annie glances in his direction before turning back towards the blonde; she doesn't think twice as she leans in and kisses her lightly on the lips. Time seems to stand still as she feels Britta start to return the kiss; they only break apart when they hear applause.
They jump apart, as they turn towards the crowd.
"She is a lesbo," Britta hears one of her classmates yell. She turns towards Annie with tear filled eyes before running out of the cafeteria.
"You guys are monsters!" Annie shouted before running after her. "Britta wait!" she yells as she chases after the blonde who seems to have no idea where she's even running to.
"Annie please just leave me alone," she whispers as she stops running.
"I'm sorry," the brunette says as she places a hand on her shoulder.
"You have nothing to apologize for! Like I said I'm the worst!" Britta yells as it begins to rain.
"Will you stop it, no you aren't," Annie assures her as she takes her hand.
"You should go back and enjoy the dance," Britta tells her as she squeezes her hand.
"It won't be the same without you," Annie pouts.
Britta finds it utterly adorable but of course she wouldn't dare ever admit it. "I'm sorry I'm just not in a dance mood tonight."
"How about a movie one?" Annie beams.
"Annie," Brittan whines as she looks towards her car, silently hoping the other woman will just let her go.
"Pretty please," the younger woman begs as she sticks out her lower lip and hits her with her Bambi eyes.
"Ugh fine," Britta caves as she motions towards her car.
"Yay!" Annie squeals as she follows.
Britta cuts the engine as they arrive at her apartment, she allows Annie to enter first as she closes the door behind them, "I'll go get us some towels," she says as she shrugs off her leather jacket and throws it over a barstool.
While she's gone, Annie takes the time to look around, she frowns at how empty and cold it feels. There's a black leather couch, a small coffee table next to it, and a TV, there's hardly any pictures, just a few snapshots of the group, Annie's eyes are drawn to one in particular of the two of them in the study group, arms wrapped around each other smiling.
"That one is my favorite," Britta mumbles as she hands the younger girl a towel.
"May I get a copy of it?" Annie asks as she begins to dry herself off.
"Sure," Britta replies as she heads towards the kitchen.
"Want anything?" she asks as she rummages through the fridge.
"Water will be fine," Annie replies as she watches her with curious eyes.
Britta grabs two bottles of water, she hands one to the girl and keeps one for herself as she walks towards the couch.
"I don't have much of a movie collection," she says as Annie sits next to her.
"Well maybe we can just talk," the blue eyed girl offers as she turns towards the older woman.
"Okay….." Britta replies nervous as she sets her water down on the coffee table.
Annie seems nervous as she tries to think of something to say.
"Are you okay?" Britta finally asks after a few beats of silence.
"I umm well I was wondering," Annie stammers as her face turns red.
"What?"
"Well did you enjoy kissing Page?"
Britta seemed lost in thought as she pondered the question.
Annie waited with bated breath for her answer.
"It was okay," she finally answered with a shrug.
"Oh," Annie frowned.
"Why, not the answer you were hoping for?" Britta pushed as she raised an eyebrow her eyes shining with curiosity.
"Yes actually, it did look a little awkward."
Britta frowned as she waited for the younger to girl to gather her thoughts.
"What about me?" Annie asks timidly as her eyes shine with curiosity.
Britta's face scrunches in confusion, "what about you?"
Annie looks down as she speaks, "well did you know," she trails off as her face turns bright red.
"Are you asking me if I enjoyed our kiss?" Britta asks the teen as she finally catches on.
"Yes," Annie mumbles as she refuses to look at the blonde.
Britta sighs, as she thinks of what to say.
"You don't have to answer," Annie mumbles as she finally looks up her blue eyes brimming with tears.
"Annie don't cry," Britta says instantly feeling like shit.
"I'm sorry, I was just curios. I shouldn't have asked," Annie mumbles into her hands as she buries her face in them.
"For what it's worth it was a really great kiss," Britta tells her as she stands up and heads towards the kitchen.
Annie looks up surprised, "it was?"
Britta brings back some tissues as she hands some to the teen, "yeah it was."
Annie beams as she wipes her eyes and nose, "you don't regret it?"
Britta's eyes narrow, "Annie what are you getting at?"
Annie's face turned bright red once again as she seemed to struggle to find words.
"Annie?" Britta asked again calmly as she took notice of how nervous the other woman appeared to be.
"I uhhh, I ummm," Annie stammered nervously as she picked at a piece of fuzz on her dress.
"Annie sweetie what is it?" Britta asks gently as she takes the shaking girls hand.
"I think I might be a lesbian,' Annie finally manages to say.
"Oh Annie, that is nothing to be ashamed of," Britta assures her as she rubs her back trying to calm the younger girl down.
"I kissed you because well a part of me really wanted to," Annie tells her as she sniffles.
"Oh," Britta replies as she leans back.
Annie looks to her with tear stained eyes as she waits for her to say something, after what felt like hours but was merely five minutes, she speaks.
"So I was an experiment?"
Annie's crushed as her mouth drops open, "what?"
"I'm sorry I'm just trying to understand," Britta says a little frustrated as she stands up.
"Maybe I should just go," Annie says timidly as a wave of fresh tears well up in her blue eyes.
"Annie please don't. I'm sorry," Britta tells her as she sits back down. "Please just help me understand."
Annie reaches for her water; she takes a breath before taking a long a swig. She wipes her eyes again before speaking, "I like you Britta."
Britta smirks, "I like you too."
Annie rolls her eyes as she takes a deep breath and tries again, "no I like, like you," she says more slowly.
It takes a little while before Britta catches on, and as she does her eyes go wide as her mouth drops open, "oh, oh!"
"I'm sorry if it freaks you out, I just couldn't keep it in anymore," Annie mumbles as she stands up to leave.
"Where are you going?" Britta asks as she also stands.
"I should go before I embarrass myself any further."
"What makes you think you have?" Britta asks gently as she walks closer to the teen.
"You're one of the first real friends I ever had and I'm sorry if I screwed it up," Annie says devastated as she opens the door.
Britta grabs her arm stopping her from leaving, "what makes you think you have?"
Annie sighs as she turns to face her, "I can leave the study group if you want me to."
"Annie please just come sit back down," Britta insists as she shuts the door before leading the younger woman back down to the couch.
"I shouldn't have said anything," Annie begins to sob as she buries her face in her hands.
"I'm glad you did," Britta assures her as she rubs her back.
"I can't lose you," Annie continues to sob.
"You won't," Britta assures her as she cups her face guiding it towards her own, she wipes away the tears with thumbs before kissing her forehead gently.
Annie gives her a small smile, "I still should probably go, it's late."
"Oh okay," Britta frowns as she stands up, "I'll drive you home then."
It had been two days and Britta was worried sick about Annie, it was like she was avoiding her at all costs. She hadn't even been talking to the study group, sure she would go to class, but she avoided them like they were the plague. Britta had tried everything to get the other girl to look at her but nothing worked.
"Okay what's up with Annie?" Jeff finally snapped as they all sat at their usual lunch table minus the blue eyed girl of course.
"I don't know but I'm worried," Shirley exclaims as she frowns.
"She's freaked out about kissing Britta," Abed chimes in.
Britta's heart stopped as all eyes fell on her.
"What?!" Jeff shouted causing some of their fellow classmates to glance in their direction.
"Britta is this true?" Shirley asks her voice filled with judgement.
"Knew it," Pierce smirks.
Britta was panicking, how did he even know?
"Earth to Britta," Troy says as he waves his hand in her face.
"I uhh have to go," she speaks up as she runs out of the cafeteria. She wasn't watching where she was going and ran smack into someone causing their stuff to drop. "Shit sorry," she mumbles as she locks eyes with the person. "Annie?"
"Hi," she mumble's softly as she gathers her things before standing up.
"Are you okay?" Britta asks as she hands her back one of her books.
"I'm fine," she replies as she gives her a smile that was obviously fake.
"Annie I miss you," Britta tells her as she lays a hand on her shoulder.
Annie was about to respond when they study group emerges from the cafeteria.
"Annie," Shirley smiles.
"Can we talk?" Britta asks her as she motions towards the door.
Annie nods as she gives a small wave towards them before following after the blonde.
The ride to Britta's apartment is silent as both women steal glances at each other. Britta allows Annie to enter first as she goes to the kitchen to grab some water.
Annie goes to sit on the couch as she waits for Britta to return, she smiles softly as she takes the offered water.
"So I think you should know the study group knows we kisses," Britta trails off as she waits for Annie's reply.
"I know that's why I've been avoiding them."
"And me," Britta mumbles a little hurt.
"I'm sorry," Annie offers.
"I am too."
A look of confusion passes the younger woman's face, "for what?"
"I should have been more supportive and well honest as well."
"About what?" Annie asks her voice exposing her nervousness.
"Damn I didn't realize it would be so nerve wracking," Britta grumbles as she runs her fingers through her hair in frustration.
"Britta?" Annie asks timidly.
After a beat the older woman finally speaks, "I like you too."
Annie's mouth dropped open, "you do?"
"Yes and I know it's wrong, I'm way too old for you, but I can't help it," Britta begins to ramble.
"Ten years isn't that bad," Annie assures her as she grabs her hand.
Britta rolls her eyes as she glances towards her, "you can't even drink yet."
"So, I doubt I'm missing much," Annie shrugs.
Britta rolls her eyes again, "true."
"Wil you please just stop thinking of all the reasons you think we shouldn't be together?" Annie begs as she squeezes her hand.
"I can try," Britta smirks.
"Is this the part where we kiss now?" Annie asks innocently as she flashes a smile.
Britta smirks as she leans over and kisses the teen.
A/N: Let me know what you think.
