A/N- Sorry for updating so late but the exams have really taken the toll on me. We finally get to see how Bella and Edward broke up. So, read and enjoy!
"Edward, Jasper, Alice, Carlisle, Esme, Emmett and Rosalie! It's good to see you all." Exclaimed a woman with long, curly strawberry-blond hair and lithe 5'5" figure. She was someone who could put the greatest models of the world to shame. Her beauty even outmatched Rosalie.
"Hello, Tanya," Carlisle said, "we would like to stay here for a year or so if it is not a hassle to your coven, of course."
Tanya laughed. Her laughter was clear and musical- like a soprano.
"Of course not! It will be a pleasure to have you all. But, if I am not intruding then can I ask that why have you all come? I mean, it's a pleasure but you all only come during times of need…" Tanya trailed off.
"Ah, yes. We have a problem." Jasper said uncomfortably.
"Is this serious? Can we help?" Tanya asked anxiously.
"Not really, no. But, we would like to discuss the problem with your entire coven. They must be surprised and suspicious in the case of Irina. So, we want to erase all unwanted doubts." Rosalie said to Tanya.
"Okay then. Irina and Kate are here. Carmen, Eleazar and Garrett have gone out for hunting." Tanya said as she guided the Cullens towards her house.
"Who is Garrett?" Esme asked.
"Oh, he is Kate's mate." Tanya said.
"We can work with that!" Alice said cheerfully.
"KATE! IRINA! COME OUT! WE HAVE GUESTS!" Tanya shrieked.
A moment later, two heavenly ladies stepped into the drawing room, rubbing their ears.
"Did you need to shout so loudly, sister?" asked a girl with long, pale blond, straight as corn silk blond hair. She had the golden eyes of a typical vegeterian vampire which was quickly becoming black in her irritation. She was 5'6" tall and very graceful. She was beautiful even with her standard as a vampire- coming second to only Tanya.
"You know Tanya, Kate. Of course she would shout." Said a vampire with long, wavy golden-blond hair and golden eyes. She was the tallest of the Denali sisters with the height of 5'9". She too, was extraordinarily beautiful.
Before anyone could say anything, the woman-vampire gasped and said angrily, "What are the Cullens doing over here?!"
"Irina, sister, calm down. They have come to us in a time of need and if we consider them as family then we should at least try to help them." Tanya said calmly.
"Calm down?! Calm down! They killed my mate! And you expect me to calm down?!" Irina exploded, her eyes becoming black in her anger.
"Irina. You know that Laurent wasn't killed by them. The dogs killed him. I've had enough of your fits and mood swings. Yes, your mate is dead and you are mourning. However, that doesn't mean that you will blame peace-loving vampires, and, most importantly family for his death. We have already refused to help them in a dire situation. Get over it, sister." Kate said.
Irina looked devastated.
"Irina dear. Please listen to me. Your mate- Laurent was killed because he was going to attack and kill a human. The Quileute wolves had been patrolling the area and they found a vampire trying to kill a human. It is in their very nature to protect the humans of the city and they hate vampires. We didn't even know about this. Imagine if the wolves didn't catch Laurent when they did, then the human would be dead and the Quileute wolves would blame us and consider the treaty as null and void. You do realize the complications, don't you dear?" Esme said softly.
Irina pursed her lips as she processed the information. Finally, she said, "I am sorry about the way I have acted. However, please don't talk about him. It is easier to try to forget. And…what about the girl? The one that was Edward's mate? Beatrice? Bella?"
The Cullens' faces immediately darkened at the name. It didn't take long for the sisters to connect the dots.
"What did she do?" Kate said harshly as her eyes quickly started turning black. She was like Rosalie, she knew that nothing good would come out of the mortal girl. How did Edward even think that she was his mate was unbelievable. It was clear as day that the girl was only Edward's singer.
There are two types of people. First, there were the Singers. Their blood is very appealing to the vampire and he/she is unable to control the bloodlust. Heavens knew that she and her sisters had met a fair few of their Singers and killed them in a few minutes. The second type are the true mates. They are the ones who will complete the vampire. More often then not, Singers are mixed with True Mates.
Seeing that Edward won't be able to tell anything, Jasper and Alice started speaking. By the end, the Denali sisters wanted nothing more than to kill that mortal. The sisters loved Edward like their little brother- kind of like who Vasilii would be if he weren't an immortal child. Tanya had gotten over her infuriation with Edward ages ago and had become the overprotective elder sister. To deny a vampire of his potential mate was the worst crime anyone could commit. Oh, yes. Isabella Swan could've been Edward's mate if he actually developed some feelings for her except the need to drink her blood and obsessive possessiveness.
Then, Alice spoke about her vision on Edward's future mate. Needless to say, everyone was happy again.
"Urm…Alice? Correct me if I am wrong, but you said 'he' when speaking about Edward's mate, did you not?" Irina asked curiously. Instantly, Alice had everyone's attention. Though male mates weren't prohibited, they were extremely rare. The last one was during Stefen and Vladimir's reign.
Alice smiled brightly and said a simple 'yes'.
"I knew it! There is simply no other way. I mean, who would deny me as their mate?!" Rosalie crowed with a smug smile on her face.
Edward rolled his eyes and said- "your ego is showing again, Rosalie."
Rosalie just sniffed haughtily.
"Of course, you all are welcome over here." Tanya said warmly and the other Denali sisters nodded. If someone who had the potential of being your mate, rejected you. Then, the vampire would go on a murdering spree whenever he sees the one who rejected him/her. The vampire would kill the person's family, friends…everyone until the person had no choice but to go to the vampire. It happened very, very rarely since vampires were so beautiful and enchanting. The closest one was the Denalis sisters' mother/creator- Sasha. The human who had the potential of being her mate walked out of her life after a year of courting. Sasha was so mad that she created an immortal child and let the child lose in the town where that man lived. Of course, she payed for her crimes.
"I am so sorry. I was blinded by my love for Laurent. Please forgive me." Irina said softly.
"You have nothing to forgive for, Irina." Carlisle said.
"Yep. Forgive and forget!" Emmett piped up.
"Urm…Edward, I just realized this but you told a mortal about our secret. If the Volturi ever finds out…" Kate said worriedly. After their mother was killed, they became rule purists and followed each and every rule made by the Volturi. Telling a mortal about vampires was punishable by death. If the Volturi found out then the whole Olympic Coven would be wiped out.
"No, it won't happen." Edward said to Kate as he read her thoughts.
Kate blinked and said- "it won't?"
"Nope. Swan is dating the werewolf Black who already know of us." He said.
"Oo." Kate said.
"Come, I am going to take you to your rooms." Tanya said as she stood up gracefully.
Edward was alone in his room which had copies of his most prized books, his music sheets and a grand piano which he had managed to convince Tanya to let him buy. The room itself was beautiful- one of the walls was completely made out of glass giving a view of the surroundings. The grand piano and desk took up all the space in the room giving an air of controlled chaos. His and Tanya's rooms were the only ones which didn't have a bed for obvious reasons.
Edward sighed as he replayed the previous night…
FLASHBACK
He was running. Edward had promised to meet up with Bella by 6pm. It was already 6:10pm. He had just about managed to free himself from Alice and Esme's wedding plans. They were literally dying for the wedding. It had been too long since anyone in the family had a wedding. He didn't even bother to look into their thoughts for a glimpse of their preparation. Knowing Alice, it would be extremely glamorous.
He reached Bella's house. Just as he was about to knock on the door (just because he liked watching Bella sleep didn't mean that he wasn't a gentleman!), he heard voices laughing. He would recognize those voices anywhere. It was Bella and that mutt Jacob Black.
He focused on their voices to listen to them.
"I can't believe that you haven't told this yet, Bella." Jacob said.
"I know. That is why I have called him today. He can't even come on time!" Bella said.
"I am so happy that you finally came to your senses and chose me." Jacob said with a little bit of pride entering his voice.
"I know, I know. I can't believe that I chose him in the first place." Bella said as she laughed.
Edward couldn't bear hearing it anymore. He growled low in his throat and almost succeeded in breaking down the front door in his haste to enter.
Bella looked surprised as she whirled around and saw Edward.
"You were listening. Jacob, you knew that he was listening." Bella accused Jacob.
"He would have to find out one way or the other." Jacob shrugged.
"This isn't true. Please tell me that it isn't true, Bella. You love me. You agreed to marry me." Edward said as though he were in pain.
Bella sighed and said, "I know that I agreed to marry you but my love for you was nothing more than a teenage crush. I don't love you like that. My Jacob is hundred times the man you will ever be. Moreover, he can give me the life I always wanted. You can't. I am sorry Edward but it must be like this. We are over. Oh, and here is your ring." Bella said handing her engagement ring to Edward.
Edward looked broken as he took the ring, not even registering Jacob's incredible smugness. He ran out of her house and deep into the woods. When he was sure that no-one would be able to hear him, he let lose a heart-wrenching scream of pure agony.
END FLASHBACK
Edward shook his head to get rid of the vision. What was done, was done. Besides, the girl was just his Singer, not his true mate. He was obsessed with her because he couldn't read her mind and so she provided him with a challenge. Even though, it hurt. They had been dating for almost 8 months. He had half-a-mind to just go to the Volturi and find out a more useful method for killing himself…And, lords! Doesn't that sound so suicidal and depressing?
"So, the question remains. Will you or will you not?" a man asked a woman in her late twenties or early thirties.
"What do I get out of the deal?" the woman asked.
The man chuckled and said, "more than you can ever hope to imagine, my girl. We will win and when we do, you will have the front row seats. You will get recognition and fame for yourself when you say that you are a spy."
The woman frowned and said, "all is well and good but how do I know that you won't turn on me? Or proclaim me a traitor?"
"I am not like him, my girl. You have my word. I will never betray you," the man said.
The woman said, "you have got yourself a deal. I will spy for you."
A/N- 2040 words without author notes! I am very impressed with myself. Also, over here the plot starts thickening. Please review on who do you think is the person who agreed to be a spy. I love to hear you all.
