"Are you sure your mate is coming?" Tina pressed Santana who was sipping on her drink and watching the rest of her colleagues chat. She had been as surprised as everyone else when Santana had joined them for their one night out. Santana had never once joined them before. She had always figured that Santana was the type of person to keep her work and her private life as separate as they could. But they'd been drinking and relaxing for over an hour and Santana's mate hadn't shown up.
Santana arched a brow as she glanced at Tina, "Yes," she said simply. Things had been going as well as they possibly could with Charlie given how busy she was, and how important Harper was to Charlie. She had merely suggested this outing on a whim, but Charlie had agreed so long as she found someone to watch Harper. Which was never really a problem, Judy and Russell enjoyed kidnapping their only granddaughter. True Harper would soon have some competition with the lizard-hobbit hybrid that was due any day now, but she had a feeling that Harper would always be their favorite, because at this moment they were her only grandparents.
"I mean you've told us next to nothing about your mystery alpha."
The voice is enough to cause Santana to shiver, and turn to look at the person she had turned to during her and Charlie's sabbatical, "Sebastian," Santana's lip curls into a scowl as she grips her drink just a bit tighter. Sebastian was the last person she had wanted to see tonight, there was always a smug air about him that she personally hated, but for whatever reason she constantly found herself in bed with him.
"Tana," Sebastian greets, using his pet name for her, without asking for permission he grabs a chair beside her at the bar and motions for the bartender. "Top her off, and get me whatever she's having."
Santana immediately places her hand over her drink before the bartender can top her off. , "Ignore him, I'm good," Santana corrects, she turns to look at Sebastian. "Sebastian, do not start something tonight because I'm not a hundred percent sure I can protect you from her."
"I don't need protection from your alpha," Sebastian scoffs and looks over at Tina who was listening rather intently. "Her love life is a disaster, and from the little she's mentioned her alpha is a disaster. I personally doubt that she is going to show up."
Tina looked over at Santana who looked like she was going to give Sebastian a very loud piece of her mind, "Well what industry is she in? Lawyer? Law Enforcement?" Tina pressed, Santana had given her nothing.
Santana paused, Law enforcement was certainly a far more stable job than amateur fighter. It was also far more impressive than what Charlie was currently doing. Maybe it was worth a conversation when they mated, "She's—" Santana begins before she smiles as she catches the first whiff of her mate. "—here," Santana stated immediately checking to make sure that she looked perfect.
The door to the bar opens and Charlie strides in, attempting to appear confident despite the fact that she was a bundle of nerves. Her parents and Quinn had both stressed how important this night was, and how it was important that she made a good impression and didn't embarrass her mate. It was why she was in this ridiculously expensive suit. Her father had dragged her to get it properly fitted, and her mother had forced her to get a haircut. Still she felt like a bit of a fraud right now, but she needed to hide her insecurities better. Santana was far more educated than she was, and she was proud of her mate, and that irritating voice at the back of her mind kept reminding her of the fact that Santana could be with someone who she could have intellectually stimulating conversations with.
"Charlie!"
Charlie immediately turns and relaxes when she lays on her mate who was approaching her and smiles. "Hey," she whispers breathlessly, her eyes constricting as she feels a familiar tightness in her pants. Santana was wearing a simple red cocktail dress, and thoughts of simply dragging Santana away from all these people filled her mind. She immediately puts a stop to that thought, she had already made the decision that Santana would need to take the lead to initiate sex between them, but seeing her mate like this—
Santana swallowed as she studied her mate, Charlie filled out the suit wonderfully, and she was glad that her therapist had given her the go ahead to initiate sexual contact with Charlie. It had taken some convincing that Charlie wasn't a threat. Things had been good, Charlie was really trying to earn her trust, letting her take control of any touching that happened between them. "You got a haircut."
Charlie immediately touched her hair and her shoulders go up immediately, "Do you like it? I wanted to make a good impression."
"You've certainly made an impression," Santana said looking back at Tina and Sebastian. She leans in, gently pressing her lips against Charlie's. "Do you have to be home tonight?" Santana murmurs against Charlie's lips.
Charlie immediately shakes her head, feeling the tips of her ears go red at the implication. "No. I'm sorry for being late, Rachel thought she was in labor. It was just—false contractions? They said a fancy name for it but—"
"Braxton-Hicks contractions," Santana says, filling in the blanks for Charlie who nods because it sounded familiar. "I know you did all this for me and the plan was to stay for awhile before going on a date, but how about instead we do the introductions and say our goodbyes, then we head to my place." Charlie nodded wordlessly, following Santana as she pulled her along towards the group that was watching the exchange stunned.
Sebastian was the first to find his voice, "I thought Quinn was with that weird little musical omega."
Santana ignored him, "Everyone this is my alpha Charlie Fabray. Charlie, this is everyone. Don't worry about learning their names. They're unimportant, now that they've met you, and see that you exist, time to go." Santana said turning around, her hand still in Charlie's as she tugs her alpha along.
Charlie smiles at Santana, before stopping for a split second and waving, "It was nice meeting you all," she said as politely as she could, hoping that she had made a passable impression on Santana's colleagues. She turns her attention back to her mate, who looks slightly amused at her actions. "I didn't want to be rude," she says defensively. She had gotten rather dressed up for what ended up amounting to a very small greeting. Though if her night went how she thought it would end, then she didn't actually mind. She definitely made a note to wear clothes like this a bit more often.
"You know where to find me if she can't get the job done," Sebastian called out loudly.
His remarks cause everyone in the vicinity to freeze, as they turned to look at him like he had just lost his mind. Charlie was an alpha, while Sebastian was just a beta. It had so obviously been a challenge and everyone waited with bated breath to see if Charlie responded.
"Charlie, ignore him," Santana insisted immediately as Charlie slowly pulled her arm free. She didn't need to be mated to Charlie to know that she was pissed. She could practically feel the anger radiating off Charlie like a wave. "Charlie, he's not—"
Charlie pulled away from Santana and cleared the space between her and Sebastian in three long strides and stopped in front of him. She tilts her head at him before snorting when he flinched. Hurting him would be easy. "A beta like you wouldn't know what to do with an omega like her." She sniffs and crinkled her nose in disgust at him before turning and spotting that everyone was watching her.
"Well—I can see why Santana kept you hidden away," Tina stated, a broad smile on her face. "Probably wanted to keep you away from all the thirsty omegas. Tina Cohen-Chang, I'm a surgical nurse."
Charlie glanced at Tina's extended hand and shook it, "It's nice to meet you?"
"It is," Tina said as she grabbed onto Charlie's arm, not noticing Charlie's general discomfort. "But we need to know more about you since Santana won't tell us anything. Like why are you so toned?" Tina said squeezing Charlie's arm.
Charlie bit the inside of her lip trying to figure out a way to break away from the beta, without actually shaking her off. "I work out," she says, finally managing to break free after Tina takes a seat at the bar. She's not quite sure how to get out of this situation without being rude.
"It must be pretty often. How do you make the time? I want to work out, but with my shitty schedule the only thing I want to do after I come home is sleep. The thought of going to the gym, or going for a jog when you've spent the better part of the day on your feet—" Tina didn't finish her thought as she motions for the bartender, "What are you drinking?"
"We're not staying," Santana interrupts, wrapping her arm around Charlie's arm. Once the shock of Charlie deftly handling Sebastian had passed, she realized what Tina was attempting to do.
Sebastian curled his lip, and turned to look at them, narrowing his eyes. Santana seemed to be in a hurry to get Charlie out of there. "Seems to me like you're attempting to hide your mate," he snips at her, causing Santana to shoot him an irritated glare. When he catches Charlie's eyes on him, he swallows before smiling at her. "We got off on the wrong foot Charlie. I never knew that Quinn had an identical twin, where did you go to school? You weren't in Columbia with us."
Santana narrowed her eyes, she knew exactly what Sebastian was trying to do, "Why does it matter what school she went to? You sound like an elitist prick Sebastian."
Sebastian rolled his eyes, "Quinn's never once mentioned that she had an identical twin, and I've known for about as long as you have. I'm curious, besides I know just how wealthy the Fabray family is, my family is in the same tax bracket."
"I didn't—"
"Attend an Ivy League school," Santana finished before Charlie could admit that she only had her GED. She wasn't going to let Sebastian humiliate Charlie.
"I didn't attend an Ivy League school either," Tina whispered to Charlie. "It's perfectly okay. Sebastian is just a snob."
Charlie's brow furrowed slightly at Santana's response, but she didn't make a move to defend herself. She hadn't expected to be grilled like this, Santana had made it seem like she just had to greet them and be polite enough, and they would soon lose interest in her and more importantly Santana's life. What she hadn't expected was to be confronted by Santana's previous lover. It had taken all her willpower to not make him swallow a few of his teeth, but she couldn't afford to get into any more legal trouble.
"Your mate walks in nearly an hour and a half late, dressed to the nines and you have a problem with me asking where she went to school. I graduated with you and Quinn, it's a fair question Santana, I didn't even know she existed." Before Santana can argue with him he turns his attention back to Quinn's clone. "Is she going to let you answer why you were so late then? Or do you need your omega's permission to speak?"
"Rachel thought she was in labor, so I was trying to find a babysitter for Harper—"
"Harper?" Sebastian pressed.
"Her niece," Santana snapped at Sebastian before Charlie could answer once again. Sebastian was being a smug prick and she would be damned if he made a comment that embarrassed Charlie. "Sebastian, normally I find your posturing to be amusing but this is just sad. So, we're leaving now because this is cutting into my time with my alpha, who you really shouldn't push." Santana gripped Charlie's arm tightly, tugging her away from the group of second and first year residents. If tonight didn't end with her and Charlie mated, she was going to murder Sebastian when she had a moment.
~ O ~
It's only when Santana stops to grab her phone so she can call a ride-share to take them to her apartment, does Charlie finally extricate herself from Santana's grasp and take a few steps away from her. The action is enough to draw Santana's attention away from her phone and look up at her mate, "Sebastian is a beta Charlie, he's not a threat, I was never interested in him personally, if anything he pisses me off. Our arrangement was always a sexual one, so I have no idea why he's suddenly threatened by your presence and acting jealous."
Charlie grunted in response.
Santana frowned slightly and swallowed, "Charlie he doesn't mean anything to me, so if this is you getting possessive again—I'm not sleeping with him. I'm with you. You're my mate not him, I'm going home with you not him."
"Let's just go home," Charlie said rubbing at her temples and unbuttoning her jacket, as she musses up her own hair, pulling it out of its low ponytail in an attempt to keep it out of her face for the night.
Santana hesitated as she studied her mate, she was clearly upset but she wasn't reacting violently. Still heading home with Charlie didn't seem like a good idea. "Let's grab some food before—"
"I'm not going to hurt you, I'm in full control," Charlie snapped. There was a bite in her tone and she made a face when Santana flinched. The reaction is enough to get her to take a few more steps back showing Santana her hands hoping that she's being as non-threatening as possible, as she takes a deep breath to calm herself down and keep her voice down and neutral. "I'll just wait here with you till your ride gets here."
Santana's shoulder slump as she wraps her arms around herself as she looks away. "Can you blame me? The last time you were confronted with the idea that you are not my first you lost—he's a past lover, Charlie. It's not like I haven't run into any of yours." It's petty and defensive but she isn't going to let Charlie guilt her for feeling slightly unsafe around her whenever she got possessive.
Charlie closes her eyes and inhales deeply before opening them, "You're right, I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry too, I didn't know that Sebastian would be here. All because we have a history doesn't mean that I need to flaunt in your face. I just wanted to show you off, and then drag you home so we can finally fuck, and maybe mate. That's all I wanted to do tonight."
"So let's do that," Charlie stated, forcing a smile to her face, hoping that it appeared natural as she took Santana's hand.
"Seriously?"
Charlie nods, leaning in to kiss Santana, who deepens it immediately. She can feel Santana's hands on her rather fancy blazer pulling her closer, and she deepens the kiss, switching off her brain. She was an alpha, she might be an utter embarrassment to her mate, but she could at least make certain she was sexually satisfied, it was probably the only thing she was good at.
~ O ~
"Holy. Fuck." Santana panted as she stared at the ceiling, she could still feel the tingly feeling in her toes from that last toe curling orgasm that had rocked her body. Was that the fifth? Or was she supposed to count the little ones that Charlie had rocked her body to several times tonight. The sound of Charlie moving on her bed is enough to give herself the boost that she needed to look at her mate.
"Can you go again?" Charlie asked, sitting up and crossing her legs as she looked at her mate.
Santana let out an exhausted laugh, "I'm not in heat yet Charlie. But if you're worried that you have something to prove to me, you don't. Even if you did have something to prove you shattered my expectations which were pretty fucking high." Charlie had been everything she had needed, she was a bit disappointed that Charlie didn't really talk much in sex and had made no attempt to mate with her. She glances over noticing that Charlie could still go for a few more rounds. "Let me—" she began reaching to touch it.
Charlie pulled back a bit, "It's fine, I should get you some water you need to hydrate," Charlie stated as she sat up and got up, stretching as she did. "Give you a moment to catch your breath."
Santana laughed rolling onto her stomach, so she can get a better look of her mate's ass. "Bring some fruit, and the whipped cream too," she calls out to her mate, before flopping onto her oversized pillows. Even if it hadn't been perfect and everything that she had dreamed of, Charlie had still been the best she'd ever had, every part of her body fit with hers. Charlie had listened to every request, adjusted without her having to voice what she wanted. They could only get closer after tonight.
