Bella looked up at her father, who looked confused and surprised.

"Can I come in, Dad? My feet are killing me."

Charlie shook his head, trying to snap himself from his thoughts and nodded, opening the door wider. "Yeah, come in."

Bella walked in hesitantly and went into the living. At this point, it was all or nothing.

Bella sat down on the couch and the TV was on. He was watching a game, like he would usually do on weekday evenings. Bella smiled to herself. One of her good memories with her father was when he watch the game and started shouting when the opposing team was winning. Charlie followed in after her and he sat in his armchair.

Nervously, Bella asked, "So is your team winning?"

Charlie laughed, but it sounded forced. "Yeah, for once. They haven't won a game in the past two years."

For at least ten minutes, they sat in total silence. Charlie was watching the game, but wondered what his daughter was doing there in the first place. Bella sat idly on the couch and thought about what she was going to say, but Charlie beat her to it.

"Bella, don't get me wrong, but why are you here? This morning you made it very clear that you didn't want anything to do with me. Now you're sitting here with a black eye.

Bella sucked in a deep breath. "Why didn't you tell me?" She asked, her throat feeling tight. Charlie's face fell.

"I'm guessing Angela told you, huh?" He guessed. "That girl is exactly like her mother; they can't keep their mouths shut." He chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.

"She thought you told me, which you didn't." Bella said, looking down at her lap.

Charlie nodded, half-smiling. "You didn't give me the chance to tell you. I understand why you didn't. I acted like an ass of a father." Charlie sighed. "I know you might hate me, but we are a lot alike in many ways. But, you also inherited skills from your mother's side, which I wished I had."

Bella fidgeted with her fingers. She couldn't think of what to say. She never had a talk this sincere with her father before.

"What do you mean?" Bella queried.

"Remember when you yelled at me at dinner? Usually you would take my insults and leave, but that night, you stood up for that man and your babies. I might now like how you met this guy, but even I can tell that he's good for you."

Bella looked up at her father and stared. She knew that Paul made her feel stronger. He made her feel like she can take on anything because of his amazing support. Charlie looked hurt by her words and when she was younger, she would always retaliate, but this time was different. Maybe because Charlie grew to love her.

"Are you going to tell me how you got that black eye?" Charlie asked.

Bella instinctively touched it and winced. "It's not from Paul, if that's what you're thinking."

Charlie smirked and shook his head. "I wasn't thinking that."

Bella was hesitant, but answered anyway. "He had this fling with a girl. He said he broke it off before he met me."

"You believe him?"

Bella nodded. "Yeah, I do, but I was so overwhelmed at the moment and I took it out on him. I think I may have hurt his feelings."

Her father looked at her understandingly. "Don't worry, I think you could get away with shooting him and he would still think you're the greatest thing in the world. I saw how he stared at you at the dinner. I could tell right then and there that he was willing to do anything for you. He has a great eye for women."

Bella laughed before composing herself. "Dad, can I ask you something?"

"Yeah, we're open now, right?"

"Why did you decide to betray Mary? Didn't you love her?"

Charlie was a little stunned by her question. He ran a hand over his face. "Yes, I love her. I was such a dumb ass back then. It was during that time where I was in such a deep hole that I didn't know if I was going to make it out or not."

Bella nodded, inviting him to continue.

"You were about thirteen. You wouldn't have seen me because I sent you to that school and Mary was too preoccupied with opening her shop. It was a really slow day and I wasn't planning on hurting Mary, but I was selfish. So the next night, I told Mary that I had a meeting, but I went to the bar. The next thing I knew, it was morning and I had a woman lying next to me in some dingy motel room. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, eh, Bells?" He chortled and Bella smiled. It wasn't something to be proud of, but hey, what's done is done.

"I don't know about that. How do I know I don't have another half-brother or sister somewhere?" Bella teased.

"Nah, I wasn't silly and I wrapped my willy."

"Oh god, dad." Bella broke down in several giggles.

"Unlike your boy."

"His name is Paul, dad."

Charlie leaned back in his chair. "You know, I may have been a horrible father, but you'll always be my little girl. I remember when the nurse put you in my arms and I recall cradling you, smiling, but somehow knowing that I was going to mess up big time. I guess I was right."

Bella pursed her lips. "Think about it this way: you can make it up to me by being a fantastic grandfather to my babies." Bella grinned.

Bella knew that Charlie's cancer might be hard to deal with, and she was unsure if he will make it, but she wanted to give him some sort of hope. Maybe if he had something to look forward to, it would give him more motivation to take care of himself and win the battle against cancer.

Charlie smiled. "I can do that. So, how about I order some pizza? Do you still like having every single topping on it?"

Bella cocked her eyebrow upwards. "Shouldn't you be eating something healthier?"

"Oh come on! I'll live." Charlie said, reaching over the table and grabbing the phone.

A couple dozen minutes later, Charlie and Bella were eating pizza and watching TV. Bella knew it was going to be a while before she forgives him entirely, but this was a great start. Bella felt like this was a new beginning. She hated to admit it, but she was happy that they never got along when she was younger because now, she appreciates his efforts even more. She was happy just sitting in the same room as her father, eating pizza and watching her father shout at the TV. Both of them knew they still had a lot to talk about.

"You know what you're having yet?" Charlie queried, eating the last bite of pizza.

Bella shook her head. "No, not yet. I have a feeling that either one of them is a boy, or both of them."

"I thought you were going to be a boy, but your mother knew you were going to be a girl. Then the day came and she just smiled at me, and said, 'I told you so.'"

Bella half-grinned at him.

"What, did I say something weird?" Charlie asked.

"That's the first time I've heard you talk about mom."

Charlie shrugged. "I try not to talk about her. It's hard sometimes."

Bella was still curious, but she dropped the subject.

"Dad-"

"Charlie! Charlie!" The front door opened.

Charlie shook his head and stared at Bella. "Mary's home."

Mary ran into the living room, her eyes wide and worried.

"Charlie, Bella's missing!" She notified him, panicked. "Angela called me and she's so worried. She said no one knew where she went. I thought you were going to tell her!"

"Mary, calm down." Charlie said, waving his hands.

"Your pregnant little girl is missing! What's wrong with you?!"

"She's not missing! She's right behind you!" Charlie said, pointing to his daughter, who was smiling a little awkwardly.

Mary turned around. "Oh my god, you're here!" Mary all but shouted and ran to hug Bella.

Bella pat Mary's back. "I'm fine. I just wanted to talk to my dad."

Mary looked from Bella to Charlie. "Why? I thought she didn't know!"

Charlie grinned at his wife lovingly. "Yes, Angela knows. She was born with your big mouth."

"Oh, you shut up!" Mary said and turned towards Bella. "Are you okay? Angela said you were having a bad day."

"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm a little tired."

Mary smiled warmly. "I'll get your old room ready. Bella, call Angela and tell her where you are. She's freaking out!"

Bella nodded.

A couple of hours later, Bella was sitting on a chair outside, her phone in her hands. She turned it on and noticed that there were quite a few messages and missed calls from every person in La Push.

Bella played back some of the voice mails.

"Hey, Gummy bear. It's Embry, please call me back so that I know you're okay."

The next voice mail was from Angela and she was yelling.

"You're so fucking dead if you're not dead already! I went to check in on you and you were gone! No note, no nothing! I'm going to kill you! ...this is your sister, by the way."

The next voice mail was from Paul.

"Baby, I know you're upset with me but please let us know that you're okay. I...we're going insane. Please, baby, just give us a call or a text. I miss you."

Bella could hear the pain and worry in his voice. She had to talk to him soon, but she didn't know what to say. What could she say? Sure, she was a little bit upset with Paul, but she hurt him, too and that wasn't her intention in the first place.

Bella turned her phone off and sighed.

How did she get herself into this position?
