IMPORTANT:
Ladies and Gents, Lovers and Fighters, Living and Dead inside,
I present to you my new and improved version of a Naruto x Attack on Titan fanfic.
Because jolly flying fucking shit… my last ones that tried this crossover… were really bad.
That and I've been reading some fanfics that tackle this crossover, and I gotta tell you, some are great, but some are also downright frustrating so I may as well make something that I know I will personally enjoy.
That said, this is going to be super different from those works. So, you know what? I'll be making my own twists to the A.O.T. universe because this is fan fiction.
That and Attack on Titan is about to end so why not? And NOOO I still did not watch the last season because I plan to binge it. As for the manga, well, if you find a good site that has the complete manga, please, tell me. If not, well, I plan to also binge the manga so until then, I have yet to read it.
That said, enjoy!
WARNINGS:
Rated M for mature.
Character Death—but this is A.O.T. meaning you should know that by now.
Does NOT follow cannon. I don't have to explain why, do I?
Some characters have been "re-aged" for the sake of this fan fiction.
SUMMARY:
Chosen by a god, rising through the ranks and creating his own branch in the military, one man will pave the way for his people to rise. By any means necessary. Even if it means playing the Game of Gods.
=== (Game of Gods) ===
In the shadows of the underworld, three boys and one girl with black hair, and one boy with blonde hair and three whisker-like marks on each cheek—all of whom are dressed in tattered rags, can be seen staring down a man. They stagger a step back as the man takes a step forward.
Kenny Ackerman is the sole man blocking the escape of the three children.
"Levi, Levi, Levi… after all I've done for you… you betray me like this?" the famed "throat slasher Kenny" says as he looks at his sister's child in disappointment. Before he smiles like the madman he is. "Don't worry. Some folks like young boys and girls so I won't kill—GAH!" He clutches his face in pain before glaring at the children with his hand still over his face.
Indeed, one of the children, a boy with black hair that is not Levi Ackerman frowns in annoyance. "Naruto! Take them and run!"
"DAMN YOU! I SHOULD JUST KILL YOU NOW!" Kenny shouts and brings out a blade.
"Sasuke! You take the other side!" The blonde boy shouts and Sasuke grunts before both boys dash Kenny.
For one Levi Ackerman, it is all a blur.
Sasuke and Naruto switch sides effectively throwing off Kenny Ackerman's stance at seeing the coordination. With Naruto using the wall, he ropes his arms around the older Ackerman's throat while Sasuke uses the ground and Kenny's stance to slide beneath the man and punch him in the groin. The whiskered-blonde then uses his momentum to flip the man over finishing the fight.
"Hurry!" Naruto shouts to the two still in the shadows. "Come on!"
"Naruto," Sasuke says with his mostly calm tone. "Calm down. He's out. He—GHK!" his sentence is cut off by a grunt.
The next thing the three children see is Sasuke arching his back before falling to the ground.
A knife perfectly at the center-back of his neck.
"NOOOOOOO!"
"Injustice shall always exist wherever there is greed."
"Sasuke!" Naruto rushes over to his friend who lies motionless with wide eyes.
"Equality is a noble idea—but it is foolish in this world of mortals."
"Sasuke! H-ho… hold… hold on!" Tears begin to stream down his face.
"In this world, the strong shall always rule."
The two other children remain frozen in terror as the downed-man rises to his feet.
"Yet power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."
"You little shits should just die, honestly," Kenny says as he limps over towards the blonde.
"Tell me, human. What are you willing to sacrifice for power? Justice?"
SMACK!
"Knowledge and wisdom beyond this world?"
Kenny kicks the blonde boy away and steps on the knife embedded in the neck of the boy known as Sasuke.
"Do you want revenge?"
Bending down, Kenny grins. "Eheh," he lets out as a chuckle before removing the blade from the child's neck.
"Or perhaps… you just want power to protect your loved ones?"
"Naruto! Run away!" The girl shouts as she tries to make a run for the man.
"Well, I suppose it's up to you."
Unfortunately, the girl is stopped by Levi who holds her hand, "Levi! Let go! Naruto… Naruto needs to run!"
"I can offer you power beyond this world. What you use it for is up to you."
"N-no! Kenny is… Kenny… Kenny is too strong! We… we need to…"
"The question remains though."
Naruto looks at his two remaining friends, his eyes locking with Levi's in understanding. "Run! Levi! Take Satsuki and run!" he shouts before shooting up and charging Kenny again with a new kind of ferocity.
"Are you willing to play the Game of Gods?"
=== (Chapter One: Beginnings) ===
Naruto's eyes open as the dark rainy day greets his senses. The cold air is numbing, the pattering of rain on his window is soothing, and the soft snoring of a woman in the same room as him is just a tad bit annoying.
Getting up from his bed, Naruto rises and walks over to the window.
His reflection shows him now as a teen wearing a black shirt paired with black pants and bare feet.
Thunder rumbles overhead and the blonde pops his neck. Turning back around, he heads back to his bed. All the while, his eyes wander to another bed and his gaze lands on the covered sleeping form of the lightly snoring woman. Sighing, he grabs his pillow and throws it at the woman. "Satsuki, wake up."
A mumble comes. "Uhhh, five more minutes."
"Come on. Move it. We're meeting with Levi today."
"But it's raining~!"
At this, Naruto rolls his eyes. "Your whining was cute when you were younger. Get up. You're eighteen now."
"Ugh," the girl—one Satsuki Uchiha—groans before she slithers out of her blanket like a snake and stretches, her actions being almost hypnotic to any lesser man with her toned body being covered in only a matching set of a black bra and panty. "I'm two years older than you and somehow you act like you're older than me. Sheesh." She sighs before she too pops her neck imitating Naruto's earlier actions. She looks at his bed with a frown. "Really? Your bed's pretty much all fixed now?" she pouts before getting up and fixing her own bed.
Naruto shrugs. "Hey, I'm not the one who sleeps in their underwear and then needs to use a blanket."
Satsuki snorts. "Right, as if you don't enjoy the show."
"Well, black certainly suits you."
Rolling her eyes, she finishes fixing her bed and heads over to her clothes. "Pervert—"
"—is what you say, but we both know that I'm the only person who'd even think of dating you," Naruto says with an amused smile. "Even if I wasn't, they're too damn scared of you to even ask you out."
Throwing Naruto's pillow back to him via aiming for his face does little to shut the blonde up. "You missed a spot," Satsuki teases the boy about his nearly fixed bed.
In response, Naruto throws his pillow back onto his bed having it land perfectly in place. "Just hurry up and put a shirt on. You'll catch a cold."
A frown forms on Satsuki's face. "Come now, really? Me? A cold? Ha!" she mocks him. "As if I—ACHOO!"
Naruto grins. "Told ya."
The pink tint on her face changes little. "It's just one—HHHAAAACHOOO!"
The blonde doesn't even need to say anything. He just smiles.
"I hate you," comes the grumbling of the woman who finally puts on her shirt.
"Hate is just another form of love, Satsuki-chan," says the now-mirthful blonde.
"Honestly," Satsuki rolls her eyes. "Ever since you got your powers—"
"We got our powers," Naruto corrects.
The woman rolls her eyes again. "Fine. Ever since we got our powers, you've been bolder with your words."
Naruto shrugs. "A game of words is always fun," he replies making Satsuki shoot him a playful glare before the woman moves to finish fixing her bed.
Having finished, the two make their way to the cafeteria of the Scouting Legion headquarters while continuing their playful banter along the way. Once there, the two are greeted by the sight of one Levi Ackerman in an apron—a sight that, to this day, makes the two of them giggle.
"Oi, oi," Levi says, annoyed. "If you two don't stop that, I'm not cooking for you anymore."
Naruto snorts making Satsuki snicker. "Levi, let's be honest. You cook fine, but you're less 'cook' and more 'cleaner', you know that?"
"Yeah, yeah. How do you want your eggs?"
"Intact, for one."
Rolling his eyes, Levi clarifies, "Your edible chicken eggs, Naruto. Not your useless pair hanging between your legs."
"Oh, good god," Satsuki snorts out a laugh. "He got you good there, Naruto."
The blonde waves it off. "Satsuki, you say that even though you feel it every night."
"LISTEN HERE YOU LITTLE SHIT!"
"Oi." PANG! Levi sighs as his still thankfully unused frying pan returns to his hand after hitting the source of the shout—meaning Satsuki. He rubs his temples as Naruto grins knowing full well not to even laugh so loud with how early it is. Indeed, "It's four in the morning. Stay quiet. The others are still sleeping."
One whispered complaint followed by some idle chatter later and the three friends find themselves seated and eating their breakfast.
Naruto, being who he is, manages to finish his breakfast first with Satsuki going in a close second while Levi… well, Levi eats his calmly.
"Any news on Kenny yet?" Levi asks as he eyes his two friends.
Naruto sighs at this while beside him Satsuki frowns. "Yes, but unfortunately, he's out of our reach for now," the blonde says before locking eyes with his friend. "Some nobles have his back, and it's still hard getting information on them at the moment considering the number of operatives in our branch—"
"Which is new, I get it," Levi cuts off. "You remind me every time."
Satsuki pouts at that. "That's not fair, you know we just established ourselves as a formal military branch two months ago—
"Because of your abilities to assassinate people for the monarchy, I know," Levi interrupts again, but this time doing so to Satsuki. "Look, I'm not wanting to rush things, but I want to be prepared in case I see him."
Naruto waves his words off. "I know, I know. We're all hit differently by Sasuke's death, after all. Remember when we all became the three youngest assassins in all of the Three Walls?" he asks not expecting an answer. His expectation of Levi is spot on. Satsuki, however, well…
"Good times," She replies with a smile—one clearly forced, but something both boys choose to not mention.
Instead, Levi comments, "You're just like Hanji, but less."
The whiskered-blonde snorts in amused agreement while Satsuki gives a playfully annoyed "hey" before the three of them laugh.
Having calmed down from their small exchange of words, Naruto sips and chugs his given cup of coffee and places it on the table with a satisfied but also quiet thump. "Levi, it was good meeting you again, but I need to go help Shadis today. Besides, our organization could always use new members and I heard it's the start of training day today."
Levi snorts as he watches the two friends stand. "You mean by telling them to be there by seven only for everything to begin by nine?" he receives a shrug from the blonde.
"Hey, I wanted it to be started by Ten, in the heat of the sun, you know?"
"It's raining."
At this Naruto grins. "It's almost a quarter to five. Anything can happen, especially with the weather."
Levi gives an amused hum before he takes their dishes to the sink. "Try to recruit some to the Scouts if you see anyone worthy enough of our standards," he calls out as Naruto leaves through the door followed closely by Satsuki who replies, "Don't worry, Levi! We're still technically attached to the Scouts too, you know!" Her eyes widen as she ducks behind the door just in time for Levi to bring out an unused ladle ready to hit her on the head.
"Interesting pair, as always, I see?"
Levi's eyes narrow at the newcomer. "Erwin," he says as he continues washing the dishes—his ladle somehow vanishing into thin air.
The more veteran member of the Scouts nods in greeting. "Are you sure they aren't together? They seem closer than just mere friends."
"Even I don't buy it," Levi states blankly, "but Satsuki lost her twin trying to save me. Naruto was the only one left holding Kenny allowing us to get away and meet up with a few other orphans."
Erwin nods, an act to show he was listening. "And these orphans, they are part of this new military branch those two installed?"
"Does it matter? They're attached to us as a form of observation, and like us, they are willing to risk their lives for humanity."
Erwin nods again, this time in understanding. "I see. And their skill?"
At this, the Ackerman pauses. After a while, he answers, "I'll tell you what Naruto wants me to tell anyone when that question is asked, Erwin," he pauses with a warning glare to his senior. "You will know when he wants you to know."
=== (Game of Gods) ===
"Anything can happen, especially with the weather," Satsuki Uchiha mocks with her hand opening and closing. "You really are something," she says to the man walking alongside her, "you know that?"
Naruto shrugs. "Hey, from raining to the sun shining surprisingly hotter than usual, it just proved my point, didn't it?"
And indeed, the time of day is now seven in the morning and the sun is shining brightly instead of the earlier rain. In fact, even the puddles on the soil are starting to dry, something that Satsuki notes is occurring much faster than usual.
"Ugh," the Uchiha groans. "Naruto Uzumaki, remind me to never bet against you."
"What, you love me now?"
Satsuki's eyes narrow. "Don't push your luck."
Naruto just laughs as they continue to walk down the road inside one of the many training grounds where indeed, many trainees are arriving.
The two make their way to the training camp's headquarters where they are greeted by the man known as Keith Shadis, a former commander of the Survey Corps or "Scout(ing) Regiment", or even "Scouting Legion", among possible others, as the Scouts are at times called.
"Mister Naruto and Miss Satsuki," Keith greets them with a nod. "I believe both of you are the founders of the recent additional branch of the military?"
Satsuki chooses to remain silent as Naruto takes the lead. "We are; it is a joint-command," he explains and receives a nod from the older man.
"Please, sit. We have around two hours or so before I entertain them."
Naruto takes the offer and does so. Satsuki, however, says, "Commander, may I watch these recruits from the window instead of sitting? I do not need my eyes to listen."
Shadis nods a silent reply of "as you wish" before turning to speak to the blonde boy. "As you know, the Survey Corps' official personnel count is three hundred as of the moment. Unofficially, it fluctuates up and down depending on the missions. Still, ever since your friend, Levi, was it?" he receives a nod and continues, "yes, Levi. Ever since he joined, the survivors from each mission are… admittedly much greater than the number I brought back with me before."
Naruto nods patiently before saying, "Please, get to your point, Shadis."
"Of course." The retired Survey Corps veteran clears his throat before speaking again. "I've heard your branch is yet to be independent and is actually attached to the Scouting Legion."
"Correct."
"May I ask about their skill levels? I do not wish to be rude, Mister—sorry, Commander Naruto, but if it is between quantity and quality, I would rather have quality instead of just quantity. Of course, both are preferred."
"Then you don't have to worry," the blonde smiles. "While we may be small for now, Mister Shadis, I guarantee you that when we grow in number—and we will—we will have both quality and quantity on our side. Our top strategist is currently making preparations for such a future."
This has Keith's curiosity. "You aren't the top strategist?"
The Uchiha can't help the amused smile forming on her face as Naruto laughs. She need not listen in on Naruto's reply knowing full well its contents.
"I am good with going on the flow, Mister Shadis, but this man is in charge of every logistical matter we have along with creating battle plans for the members outside of my—and of course Satsuki's—squad," Naruto explains.
The man nods, his eyes closing before he gives a heavy exhale. What Naruto can only describe as Keith Shadis steeling his resolve, the latter opens his eyes and locks eyes with the former. "So, I assume you will be heading off to a different training field tomorrow then? I heard from Top Command that we'd be having a guest instructor today and I'm guessing that the guest instructor is you," he says to which the boy shrugs.
"Possibly, or possibly not. They don't trust me yet, and while I can't blame them, I find it so boring to simply stay in one training field. If anything, I might just visit wherever I please, whenever I please."
"I see…" Keith then stands and walks over to a closet. "I heard that your tentative name for the new branch is the "Shadow Regiment", is that correct?"
Naruto raises an intrigued brow at this while Satsuki actually glances their way. "It is for now, what of it?"
"Well," Keith then brings out two black versions of his brown military-grade trench coat, and says, "I had them make these for you. I hope you don't mind?"
What Naruto says and does next surprises everyone present. "Oh! Cool!" He literally jumps out of his seat and rushes over to the man. "This should fit in quite well with the name… hmm… we could change the emblem too if we want…" he glances back at Satsuki with a stupid grin on his face. "What ya think?"
Satsuki gives him a blank stare along with her reply. "I think it's weird he got our measurements without us knowing." She ignores the man's nervous laugh then shakes her head in amusement. "I do think it looks pretty sleek though."
"Actually, I had some help. This means you will have to wear the normal white shirts underneath though, for colour contrast sake. The pants can remain black for all I care."
Naruto hums and closes his eyes before nodding fervently. "I see what you mean…" He then motions for one. "I'd like to try it out first though."
"Sure."
And he does. Calling over his friend, Satsuki tries hers on too. In Naruto's case, "It's a bit bigger but I can work with it," while Satsuki's is… well… "Who the hell said I was this small?" is Satsuki's reaction.
Nervously scratching the back of his head, Keith explains it as gently as possible. "I had them made with Levi's estimates."
Naruto's amused snort—an admittedly sorry attempt at hiding his laugh—helps nothing as Satsuki glares daggers into him while he carelessly lets out, "looks like someone doesn't want to be the only small person in our trio."
"When I get my hands on that little brat!"
"HEEEEEEYYYY HEY, hey, hey, hey. No killing childhood friends!"
And so, the next hour or so is spent with Naruto mostly trying to calm Satsuki Uchiha down and prevent her from killing the boy who both of them consider to be their little adoptive brother. Well, Levi is a year older than Naruto and a year younger than Satsuki, but that's beside the point.
Some other small conversations occur after Naruto finally manages to calm Satsuki, and so time passes by fairly quickly.
Now, after calming Satsuki down, talking about military-related matters with Keith Shadis, and a few other minor things, Naruto looks to his watch and notices that it is finally a quarter to nine. Mentioning this to the man who starts to get ready to greet the recruits, Naruto also says, "Hey, do you think Satsuki and I can borrow some of those brown military coats back there? I'd take the black one, but I don't want to wear something different from Satsuki since we're going to show we're from the same branch."
Keith hums and muses, "A fair point" before motioning with his hands an affirmative.
With one boy grinning and one woman huffing in annoyance, Keith eyes them as they put on their brown cloaks over their all-black attire and notices that the girl is just around a head-or-so shorter than the blonde.
"Alright, Mister Shadis," Naruto calls snapping the man from his musing. "Let's have some fun with these recruits."
