Chapter Three

I had done as Carlisle has said. I had avoided Bella around school. It was easy enough - I just spent more time with the family while Edward spent more time with Bella.

But now I was having my home invaded. Edward was bringing Bella to "meet the family". Carlisle already knew her, from the hospital, and all of us knew her from school. The only one who had never seen her was Esme, and she was beyond excited.

Earlier this morning, before Edward went to collect Bella, I heard him talk to Rosalie about bringing Bella by. He didn't extend me the same courtesy.

We were waiting for Edward to return with Bella when Carlisle came up to my room and knocked on the door.

"Come in, Carlisle." I said.

He walked in, and closed the door behind him, "I would like to speak with you."

"Uh-oh...what did I do?"

Carlisle looked at me with a confused expression, "What do you mean?"

"You closed the door and said you want to speak with me." I said, "That means I'm in trouble. When you just want to chat, you leave the doo open where anyone can hear us. The door closed doesn't mean no one will hear us, but it allows for a slight bit of privacy. You only worry about privacy when we are in trouble and you don't want to embarrass us in front of the family."

"You're not in trouble" Carlisle said, "I am hoping by talking with you, we can avoid you being in trouble later today, after Bella leaves."

I groaned, "I should have known this was about Bella coming over."

Carlisle frowned, "Martha, I wanted to remind you that I expect best behavior from you today. If you upset Bella today -"

"Yes, yes...if I upset Edward's precious little human, you'll ensure I can't sit down for a century." I said.

Carlisle flashed over to me, and landed two searing swats on my jeans.

SWAT! SWAT!

"Ouch!" I yelled, and started rubbing my bottom to alleviate the sting.

"Don't start with an attitude, Martha Cullen. This is important to Edward, yes" Carlisle said, "It is also very important to Esme. If you upset Bella or you antagonize Edward, it will upset Esme. I will not tolerate that."

"Okay, best behavior, for Esme's sake. I got it." I said.

Bella had arrived, and introductions had been made. Bella was looking around the room, taking everything in, and her eyes landed on Edward's piano

"Do you play?" Esme asked, inclining her head toward the piano.

Bella shook her head. "Not at all. But it is so beautiful. Is it yours?"

"No," Esme laughed, "Edward didn't tell you he was musical?"

"No." Bella glared at Edward, "I should have known, I guess."

Esme raised her eyebrows in confusion.

"Edward can do everything, right?" Bella asked.

Jasper and I both snickered as Esme gave Edward a reproving look.

"I hope you haven't been showing off - it's rude," she scolded.

"Just a bit," Edward laughed.

I smirked, "Of course he's been showing off, Esme. Edward always shows off on his own. Besides, what teenage boy doesn't show off for a girl he has a temporary infatuation for?"

"Martha" Carlisle said in a chastising tone, too quiet for human ears. Edward let out a low growl.

Bella seemed to miss the exchange as she quickly told Esme, "He's been too modest, actually."

"Are you planning on changing her, Edward?" I thought at him as Bella spoke, "If not, it's temporary. We'll eventually have to move, and you'll most likely have to leave her behind."

"Well, play for her." Esme encouraged. She could hear the growls and Carlisle's rebuke, but she was probably trying to stop Bella from noticing the tension building in the room.

Edward growled again, and shot Carlisle a look, then looked back at me. "I thought you just said showing off was rude" he said to Esme.

"Martha, stop it" Carlisle said in the same quiet tone as before, as Esme assured Edward there was an exception to every rule, and apparently him playing piano was an exception to the showing off rule, "I don't know what you are thinking at your brother, but I have already warned you about antagonizing him."

Edward walked over to play the piano as Carlisle was finishing chastising me. I stood there with my arms crossed, but kept my mouth shut, and my thoughts silent. "Tattletale" I silently sent to Edward.

We all stood and listened for a while as Edward played one of his original pieces. It was a song he wrote for Esme. While he was still playing, Edward turned to Bella, "Do you like it?"

"You wrote this?" Bella gasped.

He nodded, "It's Esme's favorite."

Bella closed her eyes and shook her head.

"What's wrong?"

"I'm feeling extremely insignificant."

"Are you just now realizing you don't belong here?" I muttered. I was careful to make sure my voice was soft enough that Bella wouldn't hear.

Edward let out a soft hiss, and Carlisle placed a hand on my shoulder as the music slowed, transforming into something more like a lullaby. I recognized it as the piece Edward started working on shortly after Bella came into the picture, "You inspired this one," Edward said softly to Bella.

End of Modified Twilight Scene

Carlisle's voice was still soft enough that Bella wouldn't hear it, but hard as steel, "My office. Now."

I turned to look at Carlisle, my mouth hanging open, unable to think of what to say.

Carlisle's only response to my look was to tilt his head in the direction of his office.

I debated flashing up to the office - Bella knew what we were, so it wasn't like I had to hide from her. But I was afraid that would attract her attention more than me just making my way upstairs casually, as if I had grown tired of listening to Edward play. I didn't want to give Edward a chance to tell Bella I was in big trouble with Carlisle. Which I clearly was. We didn't get called to Carlisle's office for small offenses.

Carlisle and I made our way up to the office, and as soon as Carlisle closed the door, I turned around, ready to start my defence, "Bella couldn't hear me. There is no way she heard me, and she wasn't looking at me, so even if she is able to read lips, she couldn't see my lips to read mine. She doesn't know what I said, so I didn't break your new rule. I didn't say anything about her where she could hear me."

"First, my rule about respect isn't new. I might have specified it to Bella only recently, but I have always expected all my children to be respectful. Second, that was only part of my rule. Besides that, Bella could hear you perfectly when you referred to her as a temporary infatuation. I also warned you not to antagonize Edward. Bella might not have heard you the second time, but Edward did. There is also the matter that you clearly antagonized him with your thoughts before that. By my count, not only did you break the rule, which I just reminded you of just this morning, but you broke it three times. I do not believe you have anything you can say to justify any of that, and I do not believe we need to go over why what you said was wrong, but if you would like to say anything in your defense, or if you are unclear as to what you did wrong, please, say as much now."

I stood there for a moment, and shook my head, "No, Carlisle, I don't have a defense, and I don't need clarification."

Carlisle nodded, and walked to his office chair, which he pulled away from his desk to give more room, "Then I suggest you bare your bottom, and come lay across my desk."

"Bare? But...Carlisle!"

"I warned you about this very behavior just this morning, and I told you that this was important to Esme, and I would not tolerate you ruining this for her. You chose to ignore both of those, so I am choosing to ignore your modesty. "Bare bottom, over my knee, now."

I shifted back and forth on my feet, "Carlisle, please…"

"Martha, I don't have time for this. The hospital called this morning and needs me to go cover for another doctor. Let's get this behind us.

I still hesitated. Maybe I could stall enough that he'd have no choice but to leave for the hospital without spanking me. Maybe I could use the time to come up with a way out of a spanking all together.

"I am sure Edward would be more than willing to help you get into position and hold you there if I call for him," Carlisle said, "But he might have a hard time keeping Bella from following him, and even if he can, she'll want to know where he went."

If my jaw could have reached the floor, it would have. No, I definitely didn't want Edward in here helping with my punishment. I debated for a second about if he was serious about calling him in here. He'd never done something like that before. Maybe he was just bluffing.

Carlisle raised an eyebrow at me, "You have to the count of three, Martha Georgina Cullen. One…"

Carlisle didn't reach two before I was pulling my jeans and underwear down and throwing myself across his lap.

Carlisle ran his hand over my back a few times in a soothing motion, and then brought his hand to rest on my bare bottom for a second before bringing it down with a hard SWAT!

I tensed, and Carlisle kept swatting, using full vampire speed and vampire strength to make sure I had almost no time to register one swat before the next fell. This resulted in my bottom seeming to explode from a slight sting to a burning inferno.

SWAT! SWAT!

SWAT! SWAT!

SWAT! SWAT!

SWAT! SWAT!

SWAT! SWAT!

SWAT! SWAT!

SWAT! SWAT!

"Ow! Carlisle!" I yelled, and kicked my feet out.

"We are halfway done, Martha. Go get the hairbrush out of the top drawer of my desk, please."

I gasped, and tears flowed freely. Carlisle's office brush burned. None of us, not even Edward, knew what made the brush hurt so much worse than any other brush in the house, but it was rarely used. It was one step below the belt.

"Martha, I will not tell you again." Carlisle said.

I bit back a sob as I got up and went to the desk, and pulled out the dreaded brush. I looked back at Carlisle, hoping for a reprieve. He held his hand out, and beckoned me back over.

I made my way over and gave him the brush before throwing myself back across his lap.

"I hope you are going to remember this lesson so I don't have to repeat myself, young lady."

I didn't answer him, and after another minute, Carlisle brought the brush down with the first SMACK!

Edward had started giving Bella a tour of the rest of the house. Wanting to make sure she wouldn't hear me scream. I bit down on my wrist to keep the volume down. The added pain of biting myself didn't mix well with the spanking, but at least it gave me something else to focus on.

Carlisle spanked me with the brush the same way he spanked me with his hand - each swat coming down with vampire speed and strength, so I had no time to react to each individual swat.

SWAT! SWAT!

SWAT! SWAT!

SWAT! SWAT!

SWAT! SWAT!

SWAT! SWAT!

SWAT! SWAT!

SWAT! SWAT!

Just like that, it was over, and Carlisle started whispering soothing words to me. I winced as I pulled my teeth out of my wrist, and looked at the deep bite mark I had given myself, with venom welling up.

"Let me see your wrist" Carlisle said, holding his hands out, his eyes full of concern.

We both heard the sound of Edward and Bella making their way down the hall, until the only place they could be headed was this office.

"I'll send them on their way," Carlisle started for the door.

"Don't worry about it" I said, "My wrist is fine."

"Mar-"

Before Carlisle could finish getting out my name, I jumped from the window in his office, and took off into the woods, rubbing my wrist as it burned from the fresh bite.

Author's Note: One more chapter to go! Hopefully I will get it up soon, but writing is going slowly for me right now. I sprained my shoulder, and even typing on a computer pulls at the shoulder, which hurts.
