Chapter Four
Digging Deeper
McGee drove his car up to the facility; Bishop sitting next to him.
"So … did Delilah tell you any embarrassing stories about me on your night out?" asked McGee nervously.
"Only that you've really been enjoying those tap shoes," replied Bishop, grinning from ear to ear, "Apparently you decided to tapdance to I Put a Spell on You from Hocus Pocus."
Tim turned a brilliant crimson. "It was… for the twins, since they like that stuff." he claimed, still blushing furiously.
"Riiiiiiiggghht." replied Ellie, clearly not believing a word of it.
"Just watch it, Bishop, or I might be forced to tell your friends about the stuff you did when you first joined." teased McGee.
Bishop's eyes widened in horror. "You wouldn't dare." she said, blushing.
The car soon arrived at the facility's security barrier. McGee stopped the car and got out, followed by Bishop. Even from the barrier, they could tell that something was very wrong. The barrier had been smashed, indicating that a vehicle had driven through it. Two security guards lay dead on the ground; their uniforms stained with blood.
McGee and Bishop entered the car park, drawing their guns as a sense of unease began to take hold. As they approached the building, Bishop looked up and suddenly noticed the sun reflecting off of a lense. The blonde agent's eyes widened in horror.
"GET DOWN!" yelled Bishop.
The two agents dived behind a nearby car just as bullets began to rain down, some pinging off the car, which triggered the car alarm.
"Sniper!" hissed McGee, "What kind of anti-vax group has trained snipers?"
"The kind led by a psychopath." snarked Bishop.
Tim slowly raised himself up and was able to peer up to the roof. He got a brief glimpse of a figure holding a gun before having to duck back down as more bullets sprayed the car, shattering the glass.
"How do we get inside?" asked Bishop, "We can't stay behind this car forever, but we'll be sitting ducks if we charge straight ahead."
"Give me a minute." said McGee as he started to scratch his beard. He screwed up his face in concentration.
"Got it," declared McGee in triumph, "There's a few cars between here and the main entrance, we'll just have to dodge and duck our way there. We can keep them from actually shooting us by shooting back; got all that?"
"Let's just hope this works." prayed Bishop."
"Right, on my signal!" hissed McGee, tightening the grip on his gun, "Three… two… one… GO!"
As one, McGee and Bishop leapt to their feet and tore across the car park, ducking behind cars to avoid bullets and firing at the sniper when there were no cars available; eventually creating a chorus of car alarms. The two agents reached the open doors and stepped inside, managing to step over the bodies of two more security guards.
Over at NCIS HQ, Ducky was sitting in his office, listening to classical music. There was suddenly a light knock at the door. "Come in!" he called out.
Gibbs entered the room. Ducky stood up and approached his friend. "Hello, Jethro, what can I do for you?" he asked politely.
"I need you to see if you can find an old case file from November 2008," informed Gibbs, "Audrey is convinced that Thomas Jackson was behind a home invasion that happened when Emma was six months old. A different team worked on the case."
"Hmmm, I'll see what I can find." stated Ducky before heading over to his computer.
Gibbs watched as Ducky typed away. After several minutes, Ducky cheered in triumph and stood up.
"Found it," declared the former medical examiner before gesturing for Gibbs to come over, "Yes, it seems that this incident occurred while we were all trying to flush out that mole. Three men wearing goblin masks burst into the home of Audrey Daly after tricking her into opening it by claiming to have a delivery. One of them threatened her with a large knife and kissed her a few times on the cheek.
"That's the one," replied Gibbs gravely, "says here that no evidence was found, but that DNA was found for two of the accomplices."
Gibbs read on, his eyes quickly widening in surprise. "Well, would ya look at that." he remarked dryly.
"What?" asked Ducky.
"Seems that our two murder suspects were also behind this burglary." stated Gibbs.
The door suddenly swung open, Kasie walked in and suddenly stopped.
"Oh, sorry, am I interupting something?" asked Kasie sheepishly.
"What is it, Kas?" asked Gibbs.
"Well, me and Jimmy were digging through this group's site and found some juicy stuff that you may want to see." answered the forensic scientist
"I'm on my way." said Gibbs before following the Forensic Scientists out the door.
Jimmy was waiting patiently in the forensic lab when Kasie entered with Gibbs.
"Ahh, Gibbs you're here," declared Jimmy in a bad attempt at sounding grand, "Me and Kasie have come across some fascinating discoveries."
"You gonna actually tell me, or just keep talkin' like that?" drawled the silver haired agent impatiently.
"Right," replied Palmer sheepishly, "Well anyway, Kasie asked me to help comb through the Fight back Against the Vax site, and we discovered that this group is responsible for way more than just murder and misinformation."
"Turns out that this group are responsible for several attacks against several clinics and hospitals all over the country," informed Kasie, "They've also stolen vaccine supplies and destroyed them."
"And that's just the tip of the iceberg," said Palmer, "They've also caused several outbreaks in a few areas: measles; mumps; rubella; TB; the flu… and there's more."
"What else?" groaned Gibbs, thinking that nothing would surprise him.
Kasie did some typing and a user profile soon popped up: the name read 'Louis Boggs'.
"I recognise that name from somewhere." said Gibbs, a faint bell ringing in his head.
"You should," replied Palmer, "Captain Louis Boggs formally played Santa Clause at a number of naval base Christmas parties."
"Santa's a bad guy now?" asked Kasie in confusion.
"Before your time, Kas," informed Gibbs in realisation, "In December 2013, Louis Boggs came back from the Congo and unintentionally spread meningococal A to a bunch of Navy kids, including Emma Daly."
"Or so we thought," said Jimmy, "It seems that Mr Boggs was a member of this group. He intentionally caught the disease and deliberately spread it to these kids to try and get some message across."
"Well he's certainly got our attention." remarked Gibbs dryly.
Over at the naval pharmaceutical facility, Bishop and McGee were slowly edging their way down corridors, guns drawn. They occasionally came across more dead bodies; the whole building seemed to be littered with them.
"This is really creepy," remarked Bishop nervously, "It's like we're in some basement dwelling maniac's lair."
"NCIS, anybody here?" called out McGee.
The two agents entered a large laboratory and saw a man standing with his back to them.
"Are you the cops?" asked the man, not turning around.
"NCIS! hands where we can see them!" said Bishop firmly.
"I'm impressed that you got past my sniper, but that won't matter," said the man, turning to face McGee and Bishop, "you can't stop me now."
McGee and Bishop's eyes widened in shock as they realised who this man was: Thomas Jackson. The man gave them an evil grin.
"Special Agent McGee and Agent Bishop," stated McGee in a firm manner as he and Bishop flashed their badges, "You're under arrest for ordering the murder of Lieutenant Jamie Richardson, physically assaulting Navy Lieutenant Kevin Daly, stalking Audrey Daly, sexual harassment and attempted rape."
"And we can add multiple counts of murder and breaking and entering." snarled Bishop.
"Oh, I didn't kill the staff, my friends did." stated Jackson coldly.
Several men wearing bandanas came skulking from the shadows, drawing guns.
"Where's Jennifer Richardson?" questioned McGee.
"She fled when my boys started shooting; didn't want any part of it," answered Thomas, "Her kids caught the mumps, but she chickened out when she learned how they got it."
"If you like Audrey so much, why kill her friends." blurted out Bishop before she could stop herself.
"Bishop!" hissed McGee, "I don't think that was wise."
"Sorry." replied Bishop sheepishly.
"So, you're friends with Kevin and Audrey?" snarled Thomas, "I'll make Audrey see sense. I know she wants me, I can tell."
"She doesn't love you!" cried McGee in horror, "Audrey's happily married with two kids. The best thing you can do is walk away and leave her alone."
"No, I know she wants me!" spat Jackson, "And once I run into her, I'll make her see that. Tried scaring her once with a goblin mask … not my best attempt at getting her attention."
"So it was you and two of your friends who broke into her house and threatened her, Tommy and Emma with a knife," cried Bishop, "I'm sorry, but how sick do you have to be to threaten a mother and her two children with a knife."
"I'm not sick," replied Jackson coldly before chuckling, "That little brat deserved whatever she gets. Kevin and Audrey just had to get pregnant so soon after Sophie died. I hated that little brat before she was even born; kept hoping they'd loose it just so they'd know how it felt."
"Jackson, you need to stop this," said McGee calmly, "I know about Sophie, and as a father myself I can't even begin to imagine what you went through. Your daughter was just unlucky."
"LIAR!" bellowed Thomas, his face turning brick-red, "You're just like every other idiot, claiming the vaccine is safe and that these illnesses are dangerous. M-my little Sophie would have lived if she hadn't been vaccinated. You're not going to live long enough yourselves; I've rigged this whole area with bombs."
Thomas suddenly pulled a detonator from his pocket and pressed the button. Multiple loud beeps could now be heard.
Jackson laughed wickedly and dashed towards the door. "Deal with these two." he hissed to his henchman.
Jackson then fled.
McGee and Bishop slowly backed away as the henchmen aimed their guns at the two agents. Both agents dived for cover behind some laboratory equipment as the men opened fire. The two agents fired back whenever they could. Bishop hit two of the men in the shoulders, sending them to the ground. McGee struck the other two in their knees.
"GO! GO! GO! GO! GO!" yelled McGee, pulling Bishop to her feet.
The two raced out of the room, through the corridors, into the reception area and through the glass doors. A massive fireball suddenly engulfed the building; McGee and Bishop were sent flying.
Bishop's ears were ringing as she landed on the ground with a thud; the sky seemed to swim before her. "M-McGee…" she mumbled.
Ellie groaned before slowly staggering to her feet. "McGee?" she called out in concern, "McGee?"
But there was no answer, just the distant sound of sirens and the nearby alarms that were now wailing. Ellie attempted to walk, but suddenly wobbled, fell to her knees and then on to her back.
Ellie's vision went black and she knew no more.
(AN) And that was chapter four of Jackson's Revenge, hope you enjoyed.
So we've ended on a cliffhanger. Will McGee and Bishop be alright? You'll just have to wait and see.
Until then, this is TimeLordMaster108 signing out.
