Lucent Saccharyn, Head Gamemaker:

So far, the Games have been progressing nicely. The first three days have resulted in a third of the tributes' deaths, which is slightly below average. Normally, the Bloodbath is much larger, sometimes claiming the lives of over half the tributes right out of the gate. It may very well be a blessing in disguise. Since this is a Quarter Quell, audiences will be expecting something big, and having more tributes to focus on will enable me to whip up more drama. I'm expecting this Hunger Games to last as many as twenty days, and the fourth has only just begun. I've interfered quite a bit, but it'll take a lot more to keep the people engaged for so long. Fortunately, I planned ahead and made sure to prepare enough surprises, traps, and landscape changes to keep even the shortest attention spans sated. The important thing is that they're currently very well-received, and the Capitolites are satisfied with what's been going on.

They've enjoyed the deaths that have taken place so far. Many of the Bloodbath victims didn't have distinctive personalities or simply seemed boring despite their abilities. They, for the most part, lacked the special sauce that's made other tributes so much more enjoyable to watch. Harry, Thys, and Sorrel were nice, but they were missing defining traits or strategies. They couldn't make the people care about them. Amiee was popular, so her death caused a few ruffled feathers, but Trey's subsequent death made up for it in their eyes. Lyra-Rose was a nasty piece of work. Pinky sicced the cougar mutt on the Careers, but we weren't sure which one would die. Lyra hasn't been missed too much. Jenna, the most recent death, caused a bit of a stir, but only because people assumed she'd make it further.

Most of the more exciting tributes are still in the running. Even the tributes that people dislike, such as Soren, make for excellent villain characters. Nobody's finding it tedious, since there are always new elements at play. I'll make sure to keep playing around with the tributes, manipulating them through different forces to ensure that the Games are riveting. Even on calm days, the tributes should always be accomplishing new goals and objectives, either that or endure suffering in some aspect. Tributes people initially assumed were weak are now stirring up the mix.

A prime example would be Soya. She employed the bull mutts to her advantage and even used them to help her kill another tribute. Her craftiness, both in that and in stealing from the Careers' camp, has marked her as a threat in the eyes of the viewers. Most of them are also enjoying the heightened tension in the Career Pack, and some are especially invested in the dynamic between the District One tributes. However, the watchers' most recent area of interest is the trench where Quinten and Radley are hiding out. I specifically had Cassus set the tornado's path to encourage a meetup, and it worked better than I ever could have hoped. The people of the Capitol want to see love. The thing that pushed me to facilitate it myself was that Iris Whottenber reviewed the interview footage on her show yesterday and caught a frame of Quinten blushing at Radley, which sparked a whole wave of tabloid gossip.

I had cameras and microphones in the tributes' quarters, so of course I know the real story. They like one another, and showcasing it will help make this year more memorable. Especially since my first year as Head Gamemaker is aligned with a Quarter Quell, I have to establish my own style of Gamemaking and do something to make me stand out. Even though the Quarter Quell didn't seem too bad at first, it's now becoming evident to all of Panem why it was selected. The tributes have less supplies than normal, and it's spread out among more people than usual because of the absence of immediate deaths. They're rapidly finding their food and water stores insufficient, and as they dwindle, the tributes will become weak and exhausted. They'll learn to hunt or they'll learn to starve. Compounded by the effects of food deprivation and dehydration, it'll be even harder than normal.

At the same time, the sponsors are beginning to realize how their plans to order gifts early have backfired. Prices jump upwards each day. If they're smart, they'll wait for money to accumulate over time so that they can give their tributes a boost near the finale. Those who use up their resources now might end up penniless and dejected later, when their favorites are desperately in need of aid.

In the meantime, I have plenty of exciting surprises still remaining, fun little ways to manipulate the variables in the arena so that they exert pressure on certain tributes. I flooded the section of an alliance that was getting too comfortable, and I'm perfectly willing to subject the others to the same thing if they're not amusing enough on their own. They'll live, but their injuries will liven things up temporarily. I have particularly exciting plans for today. I'll be introducing a source of motivation to set one of our darling tributes back on track–that is, positioned for a direct confrontation with the person they just declared to be their sworn enemy.
