The next morning, Philip got on Elizabeth's staff and started to make his way down to the heart of the Titan. He had to get used to flying on a staff before heading down, but he got the hang of it after a relatively short time of trying. Once he arrived in front of the Titan's ribcage, he landed and made sure there was nobody following him. He figured he could walk from there.
Philip made his way through until he came across the massive heart. He wasn't sure how long it would take for a drop to come out, so he brought a tent and blanket just in case. He also got a bucket to collect the blood. He could see an artery sticking out, so all he had to do was position the bucket under it. A drop was about a gallon, so he only needed one.
The hours passed by, but nothing happened. To pass the time, he made sketches of the ribcage and the heart. He wasn't sure though if he was going to get anything tonight. He wrote a letter to his beloved and had it sent out via carrier owl. He then set up the tent and made a campfire. It was getting dark out. He went inside the tent, made his journal entry for the night, and went to sleep...
He started to hear a voice...he wasn't sure where it was coming from, and he wasn't sure if he was awake or asleep, but it was almost like it was...calling out to him...
The next morning, Philip woke up, but there was still nothing in the bucket. Frustrated, he went outside of the ribcage and explored a bit of the area on foot. The owl came back to him, and he read her letter back to him.
Dearest Philip,
I am grateful to have received your letter. I wish you luck, and I hope you return to me safely.
Love, Elizabeth Clawthorne
Philip held the letter close to his heart. He explored for a little bit before heading back to the ribcage. Once it was nighttime, Philip again turned in for the night. How long will this take?
He heard the voice again...only it was clearer...something was indeed calling his name...Philip...Philip...
The next morning, he looked at the bucket and...it was full. A drop had landed in the bucket overnight. Working fast, he brought out the other ingredients and mixed some of the Titan's blood in. Now, he had to build the door, but that would take some time. He sent another letter to Elizabeth, and started his work there.
Another night passed, the mysterious voice still calling to him, and...he had created the door. Now it was time to test it. He opened the door, and he saw the house that had once belonged to Edith through the portal. He waited just to be sure, but the portal was stable. His work was finally done.
The reunion with his love Elizabeth was a joyous one. She held onto Philip, not wanting to let him go. She had no idea he would be gone this long. He came back with a briefcase. He opened it to reveal the portal door, to the amazement of Elizabeth.
"It's finally ready..." Philip said with excitement. "Do you want to come with me?"
Elizabeth nodded. She held his hand as they walked through the portal. The surroundings were unfamiliar to her, so she was nervous at first, but Philip was there to calm her nerves. She made sure to make her ears look more human. They walked through the woods until they came across the settlement.
Philip was finally home.
The first thing he had to do was find his mother Mary and his sister Catherine. He was sure that they had the whole town looking for him. He went to open the door to his mother's house and went inside, but they weren't there. He suddenly realized church services were almost over, so he figured they would be there.
The service had finished by the time he got there. He looked at the people coming out...but didn't see either his mother or his sister. He went inside the church while Elizabeth waited outside with the briefcase.
The seats were empty, and the priest was by the altar.
"Ah, Father...it's been a while..."
"Philip? Why, we were sure that you had died..."
"It's a...long story...where's my mother and sister? They should've been leaving service right about now, but I didn't see them."
The priest remained silent.
"Father? What's wrong?"
"I'm sorry, Philip...your mother and sister...they were executed for witchcraft..."
Philip's blood ran cold. They're...dead?
"O...on what grounds?"
"I'm sorry..."
"No! You're not sorry! If you were sorry, you would've put an end to all this bloodshed!"
"You know that a witch cannot be condemned to live!"
"And what made you think that my mother was a witch? Or my sister? She was a child!" Philip started to break down crying, but he was also angry...angry at the priest...angry at the other townsfolk...and angry at God...
"I was only fulfilling God's will!"
"God has forsaken me..."
Philip ran out of the church.
"What's wrong, Philip?" Elizabeth asked. She could sense his pain.
"We're leaving...there's nothing here for me anymore...they killed them..."
Elizabeth saw the priest come out of the church.
"Philip! I know you're upset! But the Lord's ways are not known to us! We must have fa..."
Elizabeth stood in front of the priest.
"You have innocent blood on your hands..." Elizabeth held the priest by the head.
"What are you...?"
His face started to feel like it was on fire.
"Feel their pain..."
The townsfolk looked on in horror as the priest's face erupted into flames. The flames soon spread over his entire body. The priest ran off, a trail of fire behind him. People started to evacuate as Elizabeth led Philip away into the portal. Philip looked back at the human world one last time.
Entry 213
December 20...I had succeeded in creating the portal. But alas, there is nothing in that world for me. My beloved mother and sister are gone. They were taken from me.
