The airport was busy as always, with people coming and going. As Bella and I headed over to the conveyor belt to pick up our luggage, we were elbowed, bumped, and pushed. Luckily it didn't take long for us, well me, to find my bags. Turning to find Bella, I see her struggling to remove her bags from the belt. Before I could assist her, she had already gotten it off but not without stumbling back and nearly falling on her ass.
"You okay there, Bella" as I try so hard not to laugh at my friend's misfortune. If it weren't for me stabilizing her, she would be on the ground about now.
"I'm good, thanks." She mumbles before shaking my hands from her shoulders.
"Alright, whatever."
Walking out of the airport, we find Chief Swan just outside, waiting to drive us home. As much as I adore my BFF, I didn't want to stay at her place until we graduated. 'Nope, definitely not going to happen. They are just so awkward together.' I thought as I watched on the sideline as they greeted each other.
"Uh, Charlie, this is… Danny, the uh friend I told you about." Her face screamed anxiety, and Charlie's was even more hilarious. 'No offense to him, but he's looking at me as if I just kicked a puppy.'
I gave a small smile as I waved to him. Clearing his throat, he lifted his hand to shake mine.
"I-uh, I'm Chief Swan. Uh, Call me Charlie, Danny." 'Awkward, what did I say, ya.'
" Daniel Crawford, but everyone calls me Danny." Damn, this guy has a firm grip. For a second, I thought he might yank my arm off.
"Pleasure to meet you, Danny. Uh, so how long are you staying with us?" He asked as he put out things in the trunk. I answered once I was seated in the back, and we drove off.
"Just a few days ago, my family owned a few acres of land here. But the house is currently under repairs until those are finished."
" Your hair's grown," Charlie told Bella. I guess he was done talking to me.
" Oh, uh, I cut it since the last visit," she shrugged.
"Well, it must have grown out again."
Yup, it's times like this that make me wonder what I'm doing here in the first place. Oh wait, I remember now…
