Ghost Of Days Gone By
A Familiar Face

If you'd ask her if she'd be back working in the family business four years ago, she'd laugh in your face. But here she is four years later, working alongside her Father once again. Her Father had called her with an interesting proposition that she couldn't turn down: to be the new Executive Director of RAW.

With Shane gone once again and Stephanie not really attending as many shows due to all the promotion she was doing for the company, this was her time to shine and show what she was made of. Four years ago, it was Shane and Stephanie this, Stephanie and Shane that. Now that they were out of the picture, maybe her ideas and vision could finally come to light.

This was a brand new era of wrestling and she wanted to put on one of the best products out there. Hopefully her Father wouldn't be too stubborn like he had the reputation for being and veto ideas left and right. She'd like to think that she had some good ideas up her sleeve.

Summer walked through the WWE performance center, making sure things were going smoothly and that they weren't in disarray. She had a headset across her neck and a stack of papers in her hand that pertained to the show.

Wanting to dress to impress for her first day of her new position: she wore a black high neck blouse with white polka dots, black high waisted wide leg pants, and black pumps. Her long blonde hair was curled to perfection and her eye makeup was done with a black smokey eye and her lips were stained with brown matte lipstick. She accessorized her outfit with a pair of silver hoops and her rose gold apple watch.

She looked at the name of the person she was supposed to find on her paperwork. She frowned at the name. Looking at the scrawling that said 'EDGE' she cursed to herself as she went in the direction she needed to the dressing room he was using for the night. She let out a huge breath before placing a soft knock on the door.

She felt her chest tighten when she saw the man who was behind the Edge name, Adam, open the door and appear in front of her. Last time she saw him was in 2015 and he had short short hair that was blonde and had his usual blonde facial hair combination. Here he was five years later with his medium length hair that he was associated with when he wrestled for WWE full time, but the only difference was there was definitely some gray and there was a hint of a beard that was somewhat gray-ish. He was starting to show his age, but that didn't mean that he didn't look as good as ever.

She cleared her throat. "Hey, Adam... I was dropping by to see if you were ready for the show?"

"Hey...Summer...yeah, I'm ready." He was shocked to see Summer McMahon on the side of the door. She took a hiatus from the business for unknown reasons four years ago, but the last time he saw her was five years ago. She looked much more mature and sophisticated than the last time he saw her. She had this vivacious, bubbly, and youthful demeanor especially with the way she used to dress, but now, she seemed to be embracing a different side of herself.

"Good." Since his left hand was on the door frame, she caught a glimpse of the black wedding band on his left ring finger. She felt nauseated at the sight. She had a feeling it was her anxiety getting the best of her since her stomach was full of butterflies once he opened the door.

There was a huge awkward tension between the two of them, but there was also a tension radiating that the Rated R Superstar couldn't quite place his finger on. It was a familiar feeling he didn't feel with anybody other than the woman standing in front of him. He placed a nervous hand on the back of his neck. "I'm still opening the show, right?"

"That's the plan."

"Cool."

"Yeah…." She ran a hand through her curly blonde hair. "So… I'll let you finish getting prepped or whatever." With her heels clicking on the hardwood floor with every step she took, she hurriedly escaped out his sight and found another task to complete before the show went on the air.

The Hall of Famer shut the door and leaned against it for a moment. He ran a hand through his hair per usual and stared at the floor. That was awkward.

Summer sat at the production table when out of the corner of her eye, she saw a familiar figure occupy the seat next to her. It was her brother-in-law, Hunter. Hunter had come to show support for Summer. It meant a lot to her that he showed up because Hunter was her favorite sibling even though they weren't blood related. But, she had a stronger bond with him than her blood siblings.

The Game placed a hand on the youngest McMahon's shoulder. "How's everything going so far, Kid?"

"So far, so good." Her mind was still wrapped up in her interaction with Adam that she hadn't been able to think about anything else which didn't help her in the least since this was her first night helping run a weekly episodic television show.

"I'm not convinced."

Summer sighed. She hated that Hunter could read her like a book.

"What's going on with you?" The King of Kings inquired.

"I saw him earlier."

"Saw who?"

"Adam. Edge. Whatever you call him. I not only saw him, but I actually conversed with him."

Hunter attempted to comfort Summer by rubbing her shoulder. "You're going to bury whatever feelings you have for him. I know that it can't be easy to see him after everything that transpired between the two of you, but you have to forget about that and remain professional whenever you see him. You can't let your personal feelings get in the way of doing business."

"I understand that." She started tearing up. "I just can't escape the fact that he's actually married. He's married, Hunter."

"I'm sorry, Summer. It was a long time ago, so he was bound to move on at some point."

Summer wiped at her eyes. "I was never good enough for him and considering that he settled down with someone who wasn't me, I am absolutely correct."

Hunter embraced his baby sister-in-law. "You're Summer McMahon for heaven's sake. You're an amazing businesswoman and human being. You shouldn't be sitting around moping over some guy, you should be out there kicking this business' ass with your unique and creative visions."

Summer wiped at her eyes again and gave a small smile to her brother-in-law. "Thank you."

"No problem, Kid. Now go run this show and show everyone what you're made of." He ruffled her hair.

With a beaming smile, Summer got up from her seat and went to the production area to get started with her first episode of Monday Night RAW as the new Executive Director.

Adam observed Summer as she was sitting at the production table. She was a natural in her new job position.

One thing he always admired about her was her work ethic. When he was employed with the WWE full time, a young Summer was one of the hardest working people in the entire WWE. That was what initially drew him to the youngest McMahon child.

She would always be one of the first ones to show and always be one of the last ones to leave. There would be times he would leave the arena and she would stay behind and make sure everything was good to go for the next travel loop.

Another thing that he admired about her was how personable she was. He'd remembered how many wrestlers kept Summer as a close confidant. If anyone had any issues or wanted to spew out creative ideas, she would always listen and then talk to her Dad on that wrestler's behalf.

"Cue Edge's music." He heard Summer instruct. Summer looked over at him. "Alright, Edge, go knock them dead like you always do."

It kind of humbled him when she addressed him by Edge and not Adam. Nonetheless, he went through the curtain and he did his thing. He was making an appearance on RAW tonight to challenge Randy Orton to a match at Wrestlemania.

Summer cringed whenever Adam mentioned his wife on screen. Like yeah, she played a pivotal role in this storyline between Edge and Randy, but it still didn't make Summer feel any better about what was happening on television at this current moment in time. She felt pathetic because their ship sailed years and years ago, but she was still wrapped up in the same man who broke her heart all those years ago.

Observing the Rated R Superstar on the monitor in front of her, she noticed how much better his acting has gotten. He'd always been fantastic, but his roles on television have helped out tremendously. His mic skills were just as incredible as she remembered too.

There was that passion that she missed seeing. No matter what role he was playing, he would always put one hundred percent effort into it. As much as he wanted to jump in his arms and express her gratitude when he appeared backstage, she knew she needed to hang in there and not let her emotions get the best of her. She decided to play the ignore card.

Adam finished up his segment and appeared backstage. His eyes immediately went to Summer, but she was paying no attention to him. He felt his stomach drop when he walked by without recognition from her.

Trying to deflate the disappointment he felt, he went to his locker room and decided to make a phone call to his family that was back in Asheville, North Carolina.

Once the show was over and done with, Summer walked with her luggage in tow. She received high praise for her work today. As far as she was concerned, there was room for major improvements. Hopefully she could talk with her Father and talk about ideas that she had. When that time came, she hoped he would actually listen to what she had to say.

Not too far ahead of her was a distinctive six-foot-five man walking with his luggage in tow. She was too busy watching him that she didn't see a piece of wire on the ground and she tripped and fell. Her suitcase made an echoing clacking sound making the man in front of her turn around alarmingly. He immediately came to her aid. He bent down and grabbed her gently by the elbows to help her up.

"Are you okay?" His face was showing a concerned expression.

I forgot how handsome he is. "I'm fine." She smoothed out her clothes. "Thank you."

"Of course." There was an awkward silence that took over. "So, uh…" he rubbed the back of his neck. "...You did an incredible job tonight."

"I appreciate that," she blushed. "You were fantastic. You have not lost that Rated R swagger one bit."

He smiled. "That means a lot to me."

Not wanting to put herself through anymore emotional hell, she decided it was time to part ways. "I should get going." She grabbed the handle of her suitcase.

"Me too."

She tucked a piece of blonde hair behind her ear. "Thank you for your help."

"No problem." He grabbed his suitcase and handle and started exiting the Performance Center. He turned to look at her one more time. "Bye, Summer."

"Bye, Adam." She sighed as she watched him walk away.
