Ghost Of Days Gone By
An Interesting Task
Flashback
It was November 18, 2007, the night of the Survivor Series pay-per-view. Summer sat in front of her Father's desk, one leg crossed over the other. Her sister, Stephanie, sat beside her in the other chair in front of Vince's desk. Vince had summoned her into his office to discuss some "creative business ideas." Summer really wanted to know what her Father had up his sleeve this time.
"Summer, you know Edge is making his return tonight, right?"
Summer nodded. "Yeah, but what does his return have to do with me?"
"Creative had come up with the idea of you being Edge's new onscreen girlfriend," Stephanie spoke. "You would use your last name as your power to replace Vickie as the general manager of Smackdown. Then, you would use all the power you had to help Edge stay in the World Heavyweight Championship. It would be revealed that you and Edge have had romantic relations for the last couple of months."
Summer shook her head vigorously. "I am not doing that."
"Why not?" Vince inquired. "This would be a good opportunity for you to enhance your skills in the company by being an onscreen character."
"So, you're saying that I'm no good if I don't appear onscreen?" Summer scoffed.
"That is not what Dad is saying," Stephanie stated. "He just thinks you could learn more about the business by being an on screen character. You could know what the whole process of being on television is like."
"Just because you and Shane were onscreen characters, doesn't mean that I have to be too. I am doing perfectly fine behind the scenes. I'm learning what the business is all about, but in a contrasting way from you and Shane."
"Summer, I would suggest you think about this…." Vince advised.
"No, Dad. I've already decided. I don't want to be Edge's onscreen girlfriend. Just give the role to Vickie. I believe that she'll thrive in that role."
"But Edge was looking forward to the opportunity to work alongside you," The Chairman added. "You don't want to disappoint him do you?"
Summer sighed. "Nice try. I'm sticking with my decision. I'll just go talk to Edge myself." She got up from the chair she was occupying and exited her Father's office. Now, she went to look for The Rated R Superstar.
After passing the likes of Batista, Orton, HBK, Undertaker, and her brother-in-law Triple H, Summer made it to the locker room she wanted. 'EDGE' was written on the door indicating that he was using that particular locker room for the night. Softly knocking on the door, she waited for him to open the door.
Not too long afterwards, there was The Rated R Superstar standing on the other side of the door. He seemed surprised to see her. "Summer? To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Can I come in for a minute?"
"Sure." Adam scooted to the side and let her in. "What's up?" He shut the door once she was inside the locker room.
Summer crossed her arms. "So, apparently Dad, Steph, and creative wanted us to work together."
Adam nodded. "Yeah. I think it'll be a good opportunity to work with you."
"I hate to tell you this because I think you're an incredible performer, but I declined."
"I thought you were already on board with this whole idea? That was the impression I got this morning when they told me about this storyline."
"I literally found out about it right before I came here to talk to you."
"Well damn."
"Right," Summer giggled. "I am really sorry though, Adam." She placed a hand on his forearm. "My decision has nothing to do with you. I just have no desire to be an onscreen character."
"I understand that," The Rated R Superstar nodded. "Why ruin a good thing right? You're amazing in your role behind the scenes."
"Thanks for understanding," Summer smiled. She headed towards the door, so she could leave. She turned to look at him one more time. "Welcome back, by the way."
"Thank you," Adam smiled. He watched as Summer left his locker room. So much for working with her.
"So, how was it working with Adam again?"
Summer was facetiming with someone she had come to grow very fond of in recent years, Nikki Bella. Whenever Nikki and Brie had their first tenure with the company, Summer didn't interact with them all that much because she wasn't all too fond of the Bella Twins for reasons she can't remember. But, during Bella Twins' second tenure, Summer took the time to interact with Nikki and Brie and found they were really good company to have around. Summer found herself being closer with Nikki than Brie though.
At first, Summer and Nikki were talking about Nikki's pregnancy, to the pandemic putting a tamper on things, and Summer's new position as the Executive Director of Raw. Summer assumed that the last topic was what led to Nikki's inquiring.
"If I'm being completely honest: it was awkward."
"I can totally sympathize with you about running into an ex you thought you would spend forever with."
Summer frowned. "At least you've moved on and you have things to show for it."
"Sweetie, you'll find that special someone."
"I'm thirty-seven years old. I would like to find that special someone soon."
"Summer, age is nothing but a number. Things will happen when they're meant to happen."
"That's easy for you to say considering you're getting the family you've always wanted."
"Look how long it took me to get to this point," Nikki pointed out.
Summer sighed. "You're right, Nikki. I'm sorry."
"Great things will happen for you," Nikki assured. "Trust me."
"I have no reason not to trust you."
"Exactly. Just hang in there."
"I'll try my best."
"Well, I've got to go. You know you can call or text me anytime."
"Ditto," Summer smiled.
"Love you, Sum."
"Love you too, Nik." The two friends blew each other a kiss before ending their facetime call.
Later on that night, Summer sat in her living room snuggled up in a blanket, drinking some coffee, and watching The Wedding Planner. Other movies on her list for the night were: Never Been Kissed, Ten Things I Hate About You, and Two Weeks Notice.
She was a hopeless romantic.
Her favorite scene of the movie was coming up, Mary (played Jennifer Lopez) didn't have much experience riding a horse, so when her horse becomes upset after hearing an obnoxious noise, it takes off and she has no idea how to control the reigns. Steve (played by Matthew McConaughey) hurries up to save her. Even though they characters are not in each other's good graces at this point, this scene still endeared Summer. The actor's chemistry was off the charts.
She jumped when she heard her phone go off. Looking at her caller ID, her eyebrows furrowed at her Father calling. "Dad?"
"Summer, I have a task for you to do."
"Okay. What is it?"
"I want you to be the new person in charge of the Edge versus Orton feud. You're the only one in management who knows the two men very well. I want you to help bring out more ideas to make their feud intense and keep the momentum going."
This is my opportunity to get my creative juices flowing, even if it means I have to be around Adam more. "Of course, Dad."
"I knew I could count on you."
"Absolutely."
"I'll see you this upcoming Monday at RAW."
"Alright, Dad. Bye." Summer ran a hand through her hair after ending her phone call with Vince. This should be fun.
She immediately texted two people. To Hunter: Dad wants me to come up with ideas for Edge and RKO's feud. *sweating with smile emoji*
To Nikki: Omg Nik! My Dad just called me and wants me to come up with ideas for Edge and RKO's feud! *crying emoji*
Hunter: You've got this, Kid. Time to get those creative juices flowing in that pretty little head of yours.
To Hunter: Thanks for having faith in me.
Nikki: Sum, omg!
To Nikki: I know! The struggle is gonna be real!
Nikki: You've got this! You're gonna do great!
To Nikki: Thanks! This certainly gonna be an interesting task!
A/N: Thank you for reading!
