CHAPT 10 - HERMES IS A PRETTY OKAY LAWYER

Hey everyoneeee

*pretends I didn't take forever to update*

Anyways!

Loki Laufeyson POV

"God of cheeseburgers?" I asked but Perseus waved me off.

"Inside joke."

I regarded the greek god of lies and mischief for a moment before I let a smile creep on my face. "This will be exciting."

"Well obviously." Hermes replied, sharing my smile. "It involves us."

"Well," Tony clapped his hands together. "Let's get this show on the road. Nat?"

Natasha gave Hermes a once over before giving a pleasant smile and gesturing to the elevator. "And Jackson, your coming in with us."

He scoffs but enters, albeit stiffly. The rest of the Avengers follow, obviously forgetting about me. Imbeciles. If they think I will try and take over Midgard again, they don't seem to care. Or just don't have the mind capacity to multitask.

Thor waves at me happily before the doors close. Only after that do I realise I never got a chance to do what I came here to do. Explain things to Perseus.

Not to mention what would probably be happening right now would be something I would loathe to miss out on. Smirking to myself, I head up to the conference floors.

Percy Jackson POV

The elevator door opened to the conference levels and I tried not to bolt out of the elevator.

Tony lead the way, glass of wine in hand. I tried not to note the slightly uncoordinated steps he took. Not that noticeable but signs of someone starting to experience the effects of the wine. Apparently Clint saw it too, because he walked up to him and took the glass out of his hand before looking at me. Oh. Right. Good eyesight. He probably saw my uneasiness.

We sat down in room 4, Hermes sitting next to me, whilst everyone else decided to sit on the other side or just away from me in general. "How is this gonna work?" Hermes asked.

"We're just waiting for the director." Natasha replied, Hermes gave me an exasperated look causing my mood to lighten slightly.

"Don't worry, Nicky'll be here soon." Stark said in an enthusiastic tone which was obviously from the alcohol. Steve gave him a disapproving look but then seemed to remember something and stopped. For the next few minutes I glared at Natasha. She had the decency to look slightly uncomfortable but she still glared back.

Nick Fury walked through the door and regarded us all, eye snagging on Hermes with suspicion. "Well. We found something then did we?"

"Yes Sir." Steve stood up and handed him the file. I looked at Hermes who had a face of complete calm, like he does this every day.

"Don't look at me. It looks suspicious."

"Well sorryy, but I don't know what's about to happen. How are you gonna lie us out of it?"

"I'm the God of lies? It's kinda my thing y'know. I'll think of something."

I took that as a good sign and turned my attention back to Fury who narrowed his eye at us. I remembered the smirk he had when the flying boat thing took off and used the irritation to smile at him innocently. "Hey Fury, long time no see."

A muscle appeared in his jaw but he remained calm. "Let's get on with it then." He sat down at the head of the table. "How are you still alive when your lungs are half full of salt water?"

"Half full or half empty?" I smirked.

Hermes snorted. "And how exactly do you think you came by that information?"

"We have a one of a kind X-ray." Tony grinned.

"We're the ones asking the questions." Natasha answered curtly. "Now answer them."

Hermes sighed. "I don't believe my client has Salt water in his lungs, he's human." He gestured to my whole body as if he needed to prove it. "So maybe your 'One of a kind X-ray' has an error."

"Not possible." Stark shook his head. "I checked everything beforehand. You know, when everyone was still trying to drag Mr Salty downstairs."

"Well then."

"Hermes ..."

"I know I know."

Thor seemed to finally realise something was up because he looked Hermes over trying to find any trace of communication, which, he obviously didn't find.

Said god looked at everyone, assessing everything they knew about me and seemed to come up with a conclusion. Lie. Cover up. Whatever you want to call it.

"Your not gonna like this Perce but it's gonna have to happen."

"What are you gonna do?"

"Something."

"Herm-"

"Just trust me."

I took a deep breath and nodded slightly. I shouldn't have, Clint noted it, his eyes filled with confusion.

I saw a snake at the corner of my eye. Not George and not Martha. It looked at me and I swear it smirked.

"Alright then." Hermes sighed and laced his fingers on the desk. "You want to know who- what, he is, I'll tell you. But know this, he has lived in hiding because of this, an organisation called HYDRA has been trying to take him since he was in fourth grade, causing the many ... incidents. He's a mutant."

"I'm a what now?"

"Their mortals, er, enhanced mortals. Their scattered around the earth with different powers."

"How?"

"Blame Prometheus. You can tell them a few of your abilities, or all of them if you wish, but they often live in hiding because people either want them dead or use them as weapons."

"I still don't understand how a Hydra comes into this."

"I'll explain later."

"When we talked to you about HYDRA you acted like you had no idea." Steve frowned.

Hermes grimaced. "Yes it's true, he's a bad liar, but not if he's practiced that same lie over and over again, say that little interrogation you had in that glass cell Percy told me about. Lie after lie that he practices day after day until it's almost truth."

It was true. Chiron had told me to. Had fed me the story about what 'really' happened and told me to say it to myself every morning in the mirror. Nick Fury regarded my cousin intently, trying to find any evidence that he was lying. Joke's on him, he's had aeons of practise.

Then he turned to me. "What are your abilities?"

"I have a connection to water, though salt water is always my strong suit." I put on a smile and prayed Hecate allowed the mist down as I swirled the water in their glasses until it was almost sloshing out of it. Tony fell off his chair in surprise. I silently thanked and promised Hecate an offering later.

If snakes could laugh the one in the corner was great at it. I smirked slightly but it dropped when Fury cleared his throat. "Anything else?"

I looked at Hermes, he shrugged slightly. "Your not exposing anyone but yourself, it's your choice."

Turning back to everyone, I studied their faces. They tried their best to seem harsh but I knew to them I was just a kid, besides, they seemed kinda cool. Fury seemed to be the only one who couldn't care less about my age. I laughed internally at that. "Yeah. Um I can create Earthquakes - mild ones but still earthquakes. And I have a way with equestrian animals. I can speak to them. I've also once created a hurricane in Central Park, when I was defending myself. No one was harmed of course."

"Like Neptune?" Natasha raised an eyebrow.

"Poseidon." I corrected her than grimaced. "Sorry, I just prefer more Greek than Roman."

Hermes' eyes danced with mischief. "What would happen if that information slipped?"

"Tell the romans and your dead to me."

"Oh the blackmail."

If we weren't currently being watched I would have stuck my tongue out at him, I'm mature like that.

Steve leaned forward. "So you've been on the run from HYDRA?" I just nodded. "Well, we fight them, and try to stop them for good." I didn't like how he treated me like a five year old.

"Alright." Fury said. "We've cleared everything up, you are free to go."

"But."

"But."

"Heh. Called it."

Hermes' mouth twitched up slightly, the only sign of amusement. That and his eyes.

"It would probably be safer here, with the threat of HYDRA, and whoever else has caught onto you." He said.

"The option is yours." Steve nodded.

I wanted to leave. I missed my home, my mum and Paul. I wanted to go to Camp and see everyone again, spar with Clarisse and pretend we hated each other like old times. I wanted to see Chiron and fight with Mr D about Zeus knows what. I wanted to see my cousins again and comfort Jason and Piper.

I sighed. I knew I had to stay. The Fates wouldn't have just put me through this and then told the gods they couldn't interfere just so they could have a laugh. I'm sure it was a bonus for them, but there must be a reason.

"You've been silent for a while and your head looks like it's about to split in two. Can it not? I'm kinda still traumatised by Athena's dramatic entrance into the world."

I huffed a laugh and then steeled myself, looking Fury straight in his eye. "I'll stay."

"Gods of Olympus, not the Cheeseburger joke again." Apollo whined.

"I don't get it." Hephaestus deadpanned gruffly.

"Percy's got this joke about Hermes being pretty much the god of everything because everything travels on the roads at some point. Then, i don't know, it might've been the first thing to enter his mind but he said, and I quote, 'apart from cheese burgers.' So then he gave Hermes the title 'God of Cheeseburgers.' because it was the one thing he wasn-"

"Okay, I get it. Stop." Hephaestus sighed. "I thought it would be more interesting, like an embarrassing story."

"And the two mischief makers meet." Demeter sighed. "We're only missing Mercury now."

"Don't give him any ideas." Athena grumbled.

Poseidon's knuckles went white as he clenched them. "They're making him go in the elevator and no one can see how much he's struggling?"

"The archer can. Look at his eyes. Sympathy." Artemis scowled. They watched as he unceremoniously jump-walked out of the elevator, shoulders becoming less tense.

Dionysus saw Tony's walk become slightly uncoordinated and snorted. Then he saw Percy eyeing him with the same caution he had aimed at him when the demigod first met him and he pursed his lips.

They watched as they entered the conference room and everyone took their seats. "Is that a green snake?" Ares asked. Everyone shifted their attention to where he pointed.

"Loki." Poseidon raised a brow. "He is a shapeshifter after all."

"So there's this glaring competition happening between the assassin and Percy." Aphrodite pointed out. "She seems to be loosing."

"She's putting up a fight against his wolf glare though, that's admirable." Hades admitted.

Fury walked through the door. "Well. We found something then did we?"

"Well obviously, otherwise you wouldn't be called here would you?" Zeus rolled his eyes.

"Don't we just love telepathic conversations we can't hear?" Apollo sighed.

"Well how else do you expect them to talk?" Artemis raised an eyebrow. "I'll wait." Apollo just huffed in frustration, until his eyes lit up.

"Persassy is baack." He exclaimed punching the air which caused a muffled shout from Aeolus.

"Half full or half empty?" Percy smirked back.

"Yes my child, go. Bloom." Apollo grinned. Poseidon sent him a weirded out look.

Loki seemed to snort in his snake form which George and Martha found impressive, soon trying to copy him, and failing.

"Mr Salty?" Poseidon asked, turning to Hades. Said god grinned at him and shrugged.

"Hermes looks like he found his Lie." Artemis leaned forward with anticipation, then she blinked with surprise at what came out of his mouth. "A mutant?"

"Well, who would have thought Prometheus was good for something." Zeus sighed.

"So." Hestia turned to the king of the gods, "Would you consider letting him off his eternal torment again? You did only put him back up there because of what he did to the mortals."

"That is a big ask." Zeus stroked his beard. "We'll see."

Apollo tilted his head in confusion. "I would've thought Perce'id be more insulted when Hermes just told everyone he's a bad liar, he just shrugged."

"N-Neptune." Poseidon spluttered. "Neptune! I was here first!" He slammed his trident into the ground, causing an earthquake on Olympus.

Athena rolled her eyes. "Do control your temper, Uncle."

He was about to yell but he noticed what was happening. "Their letting him leave?" he asked in confusion. "Why would the Fates ...?"

"Their giving him a choice to stay." Hephaestus amended. "And he'll probably stay, because that's what the fates want is it not?"

They were silent waiting for his answer. Hermes was trying to hide the cautious look he was giving Percy. Apollo sat up. "Hey, he kinda looks like Zeus when his head was about to get his head cut open."

"Heh, fun times that." Hephaestus smiled remembering the Axe he used. Apollo leaned ever so slightly away from his brother.

Zeus just grimaced, touching his head.

"Shut up everyone!" Aphrodite yelled in exasperation. "He said he'll stay."

Whaddya think?

Also if you couldn't already tell, the italics before the God's POV, was Hermes and Percy talking telepathically.
