Bad Blood
Flashback
Edge just won the World Heavyweight Championship against Batista and Undertaker. With the help of his new allies, Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins, The Rated R Superstar was able to conquer the two big men.
When he walked through the curtain, he shed his Edge character and was Adam. His green eyes immediately landed on the woman that had been the object of his affection, Summer McMahon.
After Survivor Series, he began to spend more time interacting with the youngest McMahon child. There was something about the way she presented herself with such sophistication and grace. He really respected the way she approached him at Survivor Series and told him straight to his face that she declined the storyline that creative had in mind for them. She was respectful towards him.
Tonight was the night he was going to ask her out.
Summer smiled at him once she returned his glance. It was now or never. He walked up to her.
"Can I talk to you for a minute?"
Summer nodded. "Absolutely." She walked beside him out of the gorilla.
They walked to an empty corridor. He stopped and leaned against a wall. She stood in front of him. "I have something to ask you."
She crossed her arms. "Go for it."
Adam ran a hand through his hair. "Would you like to go out with me after the show?"
Summer smiled. "I would love to."
"Great!" Adam smiled. "Let me get showered and changed into something more presentable."
"I still have some stuff to do, so by the time you get showered and changed, I should be finished."
The World Heavyweight Champion nodded. "Do you want me to meet you somewhere? Send you a text? Call you?"
"You can call me or text me to let me know that you're ready."
"Sounds good. I'll see you soon."
"See you soon." She touched his forearm before she passed by him to finish up what she needed to.
Adam let out a breath and ran a hand through his hair. He felt relieved that finally asked Summer out. He walked with an extra pep in his step on the way to his dressing room.
Once Adam was showered and changed into street clothes, he texted Summer.
Hey, I'm finished. Where do you want me to meet you at?
His phone beeped indicating that he had a text message. It was a response from Summer.
Hey. That was great timing. I just finished up what I needed to. I'll meet you in the parking garage?
Okay.
With his luggage and title belt in tow, he walked out to the parking garage and saw Summer standing by the entranceway. She had her luggage and purse in her possession. He approached her. "Hey. Are you ready to go?"
"I sure am," Summer responded. She walked beside him to his rental vehicle. He put her belongings in the trunk and she smiled at the sweet gesture. "Thank you."
"No problem." He one upped his last sweet gesture by opening her car door for her. "Here you go, M'lady."
Summer blushed. "Thank you." Adam shut the door and Summer put on her seatbelt. Once Adam got into the driver's seat, he put on his seatbelt and started the ignition. "So, where are we going?"
"There's this bar and grill that's opened pretty late. I figured that would be a cool place to go to."
"I haven't been to a bar and grill in forever."
"Seriously?"
Summer nodded. "Yeah. Dad doesn't really eat at places like that often and I really don't get invited out after shows. So, I usually just order room service once I get settled into the motel room."
"I'm going to have to start inviting you out more often."
"I would really like that."
"What kind of music do you listen to?" There was a Pantera song blaring in the background. "Are you okay with listening to hard rock?"
"Hunter listens to Motörhead and Metallica all the time, so this is fine with me."
"What kind of music do you like to listen to?"
"To be honest: I don't really have a favorite genre. If I like the song, then I like the song, no matter who the artist is."
Adam nodded. "That's cool. As you can probably tell by now, I am a hard rock kind of guy."
"I had no idea," Summer teased. "I can't tell you the way you dress or how much to vibe to your entrance music."
"Let's be real right now: I have the greatest entrance theme of all time."
Summer shrugged. "It's hard to argue with that."
Adam turned into the restaurant and found a close parking spot. He and Summer got out of the car at the same time. He opened the door to enter the bar and grill and let her walk inside first. She smiled and walked inside.
A young hostess in her early twenties with long brown hair and blue eyes welcomed the duo. "Hello. Is it just the two of you?"
"Yes," Adam responded.
The hostess grabbed two menus from underneath the podium. "Right this way." She escorted Adam and Summer to the bar area and she placed them at a high top table. "Enjoy."
"Thank you," Adam said.
"Thank you," Summer repeated. She opened up the menu and started debating what she wanted to eat. "Everything on the menu looks so delicious."
"I think I'm going to have the burger and fries."
"I think I'm going to copy you."
A waitress in her late twenties greeted Adam and Summer. "What can I get you to drink?" Her eyes lingered on Adam.
"Water."
She finally looked at Summer. "And for you?"
"Water please."
"Okay. I'll be right back with your drinks." She gave Adam one last glance before heading to the kitchen to get their waters.
"She sure seems to like you," Summer stated. "She couldn't take her eyes off of you."
"Too bad for her that my eyes are on someone else."
"Who?"
Adam shook his head and laughed. "You don't know?"
"No." Summer furrowed her eyebrows. "Why? Am I supposed to?"
"Considering that it's you; yes."
"Oh." Summer was speechless. She was aware that he did ask her out, but she thought it was only as friends.
"Why else would I ask you out?"
"I thought we were hanging out as friends. I didn't think this was a date. I feel stupid."
"I wasn't exactly clear," Adam countered. "But, I do like you. That's why I asked you out tonight."
"I'm flattered," Summer blushed.
"Would you consider going out on more dates with me?"
"Of course."
"Your Dad won't mind, will he?"
"I'm a grown woman. I can make my own decisions."
"I just didn't want to cause any conflict. I know how he is about his daughters dating wrestlers."
The waitress came back with their waters. So, Summer didn't have time to respond. She looked at Adam once again. "What can I get you to eat, hon?"
"Burger and fries please." He looked at Summer. "What are you going to order, Babe?" He grabbed her hand.
The waitress felt her cheeks flush of embarrassment. She looked at Summer with embarrassment etched on her face. "I think I'll have the same please."
"I'll put that in." The waitress walked away from the table.
"I think she finally got the hint." Adam let go of Summer's hand.
"I think she moved on." Summer pointed to the table behind them where their waitress was flirting with two young gentleman who were sitting at the table behind them.
"She sure moves on fast," The Rated R Superstar laughed. "Anyways, what were you going to say before our drinks were brought out?"
"Stephanie is married to a wrestler. So there is no reason why I should be treated any differently."
"That's true."
"He always seems to have different rules for Stephanie and I though. If he found out we were on a date, we would have a stroke. He has said I can date a wrestler, but he should have a say in who it is. I think he wants me to be with someone like John Cena or Randy Orton. But they're married."
"How do you think he would respond to you being with me?"
Summer sighed. "I don't think he would be too pleased. He likes you and all, but since you had that scandal two years ago with Lita, he would be kind of weary with me getting involved with you."
"That's all in the past."
"I know."
"How'd you manage to go out with me tonight, then?"
"I told him I was going out with a friend. He was on board with that."
"If that's what it takes for him to let you go out, then we'll go with that for right now. I really want to get to know you, so we'll see how the whole dating thing goes first," Adam decided. "Are you okay with that?"
Summer felt her heart rapidly beat. The World Heavyweight Champion wanted to give them a shot. "I'm okay with that."
Adam put his hand on top of Summer's and stroked her knuckles with his thumb. "If things do happen to progress further - then we'll figure out a way to tell your Dad."
Placing her Gucci glasses on top of her head, Summer walked through the doors of the Performance Center. She was there to visit her brother-in-law.
She dressed casually in a black halter top tucked into blue skinny jeans that was paired with a Gucci belt and black stiletto heel sandals.
She said hello to everyone that she passed by.
There was one person in particular that was headed her way. Should she be professional and speak or just let her walk on by? She'll choose the latter because she opts to not be petty. "Hello, Beth."
The Hall Of Famer stopped in her tracks. "Hi, Summer." She crossed her arms. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to visit Hunter."
Beth nodded. "Whenever I go home, I'll have to tell Adam that I saw you."
Summer felt her stomach drop. Hearing her mention his name was like a low blow. "That's not necessary."
"It's not like it'll matter anyway. He could care less."
Summer rolled her eyes. "I was being nice, but if you wanna act like that, go ahead. I have better things to do." She walked past Beth and went into search of Hunter.
"I'll tell Adam you said hello!"
Why does she always have to taunt me like this? I was trying to be the bigger person, but she makes it impossible for me to want to be nice to her. Summer found Hunter. He was sitting at the production table. "Hey, Hunter."
"Hey, kiddo." He patted the empty chair beside him. "Have a seat."
"How's everything going?"
"So far, so good. We're ready to go live whenever it's time."
"Cool."
"How are you?"
Summer sighed. "I was good up until a few minutes ago."
"What happened?" Hunter inquired.
"I saw Beth. Her and I will never get along, no matter how hard I try to be nice."
"Just ignore her."
"It's kind of hard to do that whenever she's on your payroll."
"If you happen to visit me again and you see her, pretend she doesn't exist. Or if she speaks to you, just keep on walking."
Summer ran a hand through her hair. "She always taunts me about Adam. I know he chose to be with her - she doesn't have to rub it in my face."
"Listen: I love you, you're my little sister, but Beth is one of my best commentators. If you can't get along, then it's for the best if you don't come to the Performance Center on Wednesdays."
"But, Hunter…"
"I'm sorry, Summer. I just don't want any unnecessary drama."
"Fine." Summer got up from her seat. "I'll plan on not visiting you again." She walked out of the Performance Center, her heels clicking against the hardwood floor.
Beth stood by the curtain, smiling at what just transpired. She didn't have to deal with seeing the McMahon brat on her turf. She couldn't wait to tell Adam about that later. She made her way out to the commentary table since NXT was about to go live.
Adam was sitting in his favorite recliner, scrolling mindlessly through his phone. He had been debating whether or not he should look up someone in particular on social media. With the unanimous yes ringing in his head, he decided to search for this person on social media.
On Instagram, he typed in Summer McMahon. Her username SummerMcMahon was the first one to pop up. He clicked on it and saw that it was public. Her follower count was 1 million which was an impressive number to him considering she was never an onscreen character.
He looked at people that she followed and the first people that popped up were also people he followed. Stephanie, Randy, Seth, Finn, Adam Cole, Chris Jericho, Charlotte, Nattie, and Brie were the people they both followed. He was certain she was following Nikki too even though he couldn't really tell since he didn't follow that Bella Twin.
He clicked on the follow button. The worst that could happen is she blocks him. But, he wanted to try to be on friendly terms with her since they were working in close capacity once again. He figured a good start would be following her on social media.
Speaking of social media, he logged onto Twitter and searched for Summer McMahon in the search box. Her username SummerMcMahon was the first one to pop up. He clicked on her name and her twitter page was public too. She had 500k followers on Twitter which he thought was an impressive number. She made her twitter account in 2016. So she hadn't had her Twitter account for that long.
He clicked on the follow button. He didn't waste time to see who she was following on Twitter as opposed to Instagram.
He slightly jumped when his ringtone went off. He looked and saw his wife's name on the caller ID. He accepted the call and put her on speaker. "Hey."
"Hey. How was your day?"
"Not too bad. How was NXT?"
"It was great! You will never guess what happened?"
"What?"
"Hunter told Summer that he didn't want her coming to the Performance Center on Wednesdays."
Adam's forehead crinkled and his eyebrows furrowed. His interest piqued at hearing Summer's name being mentioned. "Why would he do that? I thought he and Summer were close."
"He doesn't want any unnecessary drama. Which is exactly what she is."
"I've never known Summer to be problematic."
"Her and I don't get along, Adam. That's the problem. Hunter would rather have me there than his darling baby sister-in-law."
"What happened between the two of you today?" Adam inquired.
"What makes you think that something happened?" Beth retorted.
"Because you and Summer have never been able to get along. I just know something happened between the two of you."
"I told her that I would tell you that she said hello."
Adam ran a hand down his face. "I know that I married you, but there's no need to rub it in her face. She doesn't deserve that."
"You chose me, Adam. She just needs to be reminded of that, especially now that you and her are working side by side again."
"I don't love her. I love you."
"Of course you do. You're married to me."
"I sure did. So, I'm with you for the long haul."
"Good to know."
"I should probably go."
"I'll see you tomorrow. I love you."
"Love you too." He ended the call. When he looked at the notifications on his phone he saw that Summer followed him back on both Twitter and Instagram.
He laid back in his recliner and let out a deep breath. Should I message Summer and see how she's doing? He got back on Twitter and sent Summer a direct message.
Hey. I heard about what happened between you and Beth. I don't know what was said, but I apologize on her behalf for anything that was said. He hit send the send button.
