Ghosts Of Days Gone By
Life After You
After five months off the radar, Summer made her return onto WWE territory. Ever since she found out who made the harassment claim and she quit her job, she kept a low profile. She barely posted on social media and the people she talked to were kept at a bare minimum.
Finding to be a chilly night in Orlando, she decided to wear a white long sleeve crochet crop top, leather leggings, and black stiletto heeled ankle boots. The silver hoops that were in her ears accessorized with her outfit. She had her makeup done with light brown eyeshadow and red matte lipstick. Her blonde hair that she let grow out was down in loose waves flowing down her back.
Tonight was Survivor Series and the Undertaker's final farewell, so she decided to show up to show her respect for The Deadman. She was merely showing up as a guest not a WWE employee. It actually felt kind of surreal.
She had texted Hunter to let him know she arrived so he could meet up with her. So, whenever she walked through the entrance doors, she found The Game waiting on her. He walked up to her and gave her a hug.
"Hey, Stranger," Hunter greeted, breaking apart their hug. "It's good to see you."
"It's good to see you too."
Hunter and Summer started walking down the hallway beside each other. "How are things going?"
Summer shrugged. "Good. I feel like a brand new person."
"That's great. You look great. I see you grew out your hair and you look like you've been working out."
"This is the longest my hair has ever been," Summer said, flipping her blonde waves over her shoulder. Her hair went down to the small of her back. "And, I have been working out. I have always wanted a toned figure, so I finally made it happen."
"Sounds like you have been very productive."
"I like to think so."
"So," The King of Kings started, changing the topic. "I have something to discuss with you later on."
"Okay," Summer nodded.
"I have some errands to tend to before the show starts. I'll catch you later, Kid." He ruffled her hair before disappearing down the hallway.
Summer's eyes widened when she spotted a very familiar male figure. She was sure he was here for the same reason she was. She noticed that his arm was out of a sling. He must be close to being healed.
There was one thing in particular that caught her eye: there was no wedding band on his finger.
He was currently talking to Undertaker and Michelle McCool, but he turned his gaze to her. He smiled and gave her a small wave. Her heart fluttered as his actions.
Summer felt like she was frozen in place when Adam headed towards her direction. The Rated R Superstar stuffed his hands in his pockets once he approached Summer. This was the first time in five months that they have seen each other.
"Hey," Adam said.
"Hey," Summer replied.
"How are you?"
"I'm doing good. How are you?"
"I'm doing alright," Adam shrugged. "I'm glad that you're here. I have been wanting to talk to you for awhile."
"About what?"
Adam ran a hand through his hair. "There's a lot I want to talk to you about. But, I think it's better if we talked in private. Do you mind meeting up with me somewhere after the show and we talk?"
Summer nodded. "Sure."
A hint of a smile appeared on The Hall Of Famer's face. "Great. I'll just find you after the show."
"Okay." Summer felt huge butterflies in her stomach at the thought of meeting up with Adam alone.
Summer watched as some wrestlers, past and present, paid their respects to the Undertaker. She was standing beside Michelle McCool, watching the whole thing from the monitor in the gorilla.
"I know you have got to be proud of your husband. He's definitely one of the all time greats."
"I am super proud," Michelle beamed. "It's so heartwarming to see how many people paid respects to Mark."
"I'm glad to see that you and him have a wonderful marriage. I hope that I can find something like that one day."
Michelle placed a hand on Summer's shoulder. "One day you will meet somebody and they are going to see how special you are. There is somebody out there for you."
"I just want someone to look at me the way that you and Taker look at each other."
"It'll happen for you, Summer. I have the utmost faith."
"Thanks."
The Deadman had come backstage after his segment. He and Michelle embraced each other. She couldn't help but smile at them. She hoped for a love like that.
She was snapped out of her reverie when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around and saw Vince standing behind her. She crossed her arms.
"Look, Summer, I don't do this often, but I just wanted to tell you that I'm sorry."
"What could you possibly be sorry for?"
"For being hard on you. You didn't deserve how I treated you."
Summer couldn't believe what she was hearing. Vincent Kennedy McMahon was actually apologizing to her. She wished someone was around to record this.
"Edge called me and set the record straight about what happened. I hope you can forgive me."
Adam had called? But why? She would have to ask him about that whenever they talked later. Right now, she would just go ahead and put the situation with her Father to rest. "I forgive you, Dad."
Vince hugged her, which took her by surprise. But she wasn't complaining. Hugs from him were a rare occurrence.
"Hey, Kiddo." Hunter approached her. "Walk with me." They walked beside each other to the parking garage.
"What did you want to speak with me about?"
"I was wanting to make you an offer."
"An offer?" Summer repeated. "An offer for what?"
"I want you to work in NXT. I think you would make a good asset."
"A good asset for what? Hunter, you have amazing people working for NXT already. Plus, my worst enemy has made herself very comfortable at the announcing table."
"I want you to take charge of the women's division. I think you could help elevate the women's division to new heights," The Game stated. "Besides, I will make sure that you and Beth don't interact whatsoever. You will have your very own office and if you have any issues, I will personally handle the situation. Right now, she's on leave to get some sensitivity training."
Summer smiled. "You drive a hard bargain. But, can you please give me some time to think about it?"
Hunter nodded. "Of course, Kiddo."
"Thanks."
"No problem."
"The offer does mean a lot to me."
"Edge approached me earlier and said that he wanted to appear on NXT whenever he got cleared."
"Really?"
"Really. I'm thinking about letting him appear."
"He could help give the NXT wrestlers a good rub if he interacted with them."
"Exactly."
Speaking of The Rated R Superstar, he came into the fray. "Hey, Hunter, Summer. I hope I'm not interrupting anything important."
"Not at all. I was just telling Summer bye." The Game ruffled Summer's hair before walking to his private vehicle.
"So, where are you wanting to meet at? I'm staying at Jay's house so if you want to go there that's fine, or we can go to your place, or we can grab some food….it's wherever is comfortable for you."
"We can go to my place," Summer decided. "Pull up your maps on your phone please and then hand your phone to me."
Adam did as he was told. Summer put in her address in the search box and the route pulled up. She handed Adam his phone back.
"Let me walk you to your car," Adam suggested, placing his phone in the back pocket of his jeans.
"Okay, thanks." They walked in a companionable silence to her car. "See you in a few minutes."
"See you in a few minutes," Adam repeated. He watched as Summer got into her car and drove out of the parking lot. Shortly after, he got into his vehicle and was in route to Summer's house.
The Rated R Superstar pulled up to Summer's condo. He was in awe with it. He got out his vehicle and walked to the front door, admiring her outside decor along the way. He knocked on the door and in an instant, Summer opened the door.
"Welcome," Summer greeted.
"You have a nice place," Adam said, walking inside. He was impressed with how Summer's condo was designed on the inside. She definitely put in the work maintaining the upkeep of her condo.
"Thanks." She guided them to the living room. There was two black leather recliners and a black leather rectangular lounging sofa. A plasma screen sat above her fireplace. She sat down on the sofa.
Adam joined her on the sofa. He crossed his left leg over his right. "Thanks for letting me have a chance to come into your home to talk with you."
Summer shrugged. "What did you want to talk to me about?"
"I wanted to set the record straight: I had nothing to do with that harassment claim made against you."
"I know, Adam. My Dad actually told me that you called him and told him what happened. I appreciate that."
"Trust me: it was the least I could do."
"I still appreciate it, but if you don't mind me asking, why did you call my Dad?"
"Vince needed to know that you were innocent and didn't do anything wrong."
Summer smiled and nodded. "So, what else did you want to talk about?" she inquired.
"I asked Beth for a divorce."
Summer's eyes widened and her jaw dropped. "For real?"
"Yep. It just wasn't working out," Adam responded. "She was too spiteful for my liking; besides, it turns out I'm in love with someone else."
"Oh," Summer frowned. "That's good for you."
"I think you'll like her. She's 5'7, has blonde hair, the most beautiful dark brown eyes I've seen, and the most amazing personality. Everyone else seems to be fond of her."
Summer felt her heartbreak. She got off the sofa, walking down the hallway wiping at her eyes. She didn't want Adam to see her like this. She felt Adam gently grab her elbow but she brushed him off. "Please leave me alone..."
"Summer…"
She turned around to come face to face with him. "Adam, I'm sorry, but I don't want to hear about some girl you're in love with. It sucked to find about it nine years ago and it sucks to find out about it now."
"Summer; it's you. I love you!" Adam exclaimed.
"What?" Summer's eyes widened. "You do? Really?"
"I do, I really do. It's always been you."
By this point: Summer started sobbing. She had been aching to hear that from Adam from such a long time. It felt so surreal that this was happening at this moment. Adam hugged her, stroking her hair.
"You're the person I want to come home to. You're the person I want to tell how my day went. You're the person I want to share my happiness, sadness, frustration, and success with."
Summer looked up at him, tears glistening in her eyes. "Do you really mean that Adam?"
"Of course I mean it." He cupped her cheeks, wiping away her stray tears with his thumbs.
"You don't know how long I've waited to hear that," Summer admitted. "I love you so much, Adam. I don't think I've ever stopped."
"I love you too, Summer. Always have, always will." He looked longingly at the woman standing before him, softly placing his lips onto hers.
