As Jay walked towards the district he met his partner who passed him a coffee as they walked in together, "Morning Jay, late night?"

Jay chuckled, "No, early morning, last mandatory session with the shrink."

Hailey smiles and nodded as she walked in the door Jay held open for her, "Oh, need to keep seeing her?"

"Negative."

"You know it can't hurt." She shrugged, as they walked towards the gate.

Jay smiled and put his palm in the scanner to buzz up, "Yeah I know but it's just become fifty minutes or cop war stories, I'd rather be at Molly's with the boys."

She paused and looked at him with a concerned look, but he smiled, "Don't worry, it worked, it helped, I'm moving on."

"Alright." She knew he was being honest, she could tell he was a different and she was glad, he was a good guy and a great cop she didn't want to lose him as a partner.

They walked up and made their way to their desks, Jay took his jacket off and slung it over his chair, but before he could sit down he was called into Voight's office. He made a confused look, Hailey also but he just shrugged to her as he made his way in.

"Halstead, shut the door." Voight said, he had a stern voice which made Jay tense up, he was hoping that he wasn't going to make him continue his therapy, he was good.

"So last day of therapy, how you feeling?"

"I'm good Sarge," Jay paused, "Seriously, I'm good. It done what it needed to do, I got through a lot of things I needed to and now I can put them in the past."

"I'm glad to hear that, seriously. I wasn't sure if we were going to lose you for a minute there." Voight said, shocking Jay. He actually cared.

"Thanks, I guess."

"Listen, there's something you should know."

Jay raised an eyebrow, concern written all over his face, "Come on sarge, don't keep me in suspense."

"Erins back."

Jays eyes went blank, he thought his heart stopped for a second and he didn't know if he was going to be sick or pass out. He didn't say a word as he quickly stood up, ready to storm out.

"Jay, she needs to talk to you." Hank said quickly, as Jay turned back and walked towards him.

"Well maybe she should have thought about that before she left without a goodbye." Jay said angrily before he opened the door and left, slamming it behind him.

He quickly walked to his desk and grabbed his jacket and belongings then stormed down the stairs, leaving everyone confused and wondering what the hell he was doing, especially his partner whom quickly ran after him.

Finally Hailey caught up to him just as he was about to get into the Sierra. He was abruptly stopped when she pretty much launched herself in-front of him preventing him from getting the door open.

"Hailey what the hell!" Jay snapped.

"What the hell yourself."

"Please just leave it Hailey."

"Jay no, you were in such a good place this morning. What happened in Voight's office to make you storm out like that?" She said concerned, worried about all the progress he had made.

Jay flung his head back, he didn't need this, he just needed space but he knew he wasn't going to get it, so he pulled his head forward and looked down to her, "Erins back, for what reason I have no idea, I didn't ask and I don't want to know."

Her mouth fell open, that was the last thing she thought he was going to say, "Jay, I'm sorry."

"Nothing to be sorry about, it's all good. It's just I have come so far and I'm finally over her but I just need my space to make sure her being here isn't going to stuff all that up."

"Jay," Hailey paused, resting her hand on his arm, "I know the last thing you want to do is talk to her but she's obviously here for a reason, maybe it would be good for you to see her, might help you move on."

Jay knew that wouldn't be the case, he knew as soon as he saw her his feelings would come rushing back. She was the first person he had ever loved, their connection was something he had never experienced before and he didn't want that all to come back if she was only going to leave again, he couldn't put himself in that situation.

"Hailey, I can't. You have no idea." Jay shook his head, trying to escape all the memories that were trying to make their way back into his mind.

"Well then maybe it will make you feel good, Jay I only worked with the both of you for a short amount of time but you could feel the strength of your connection just by standing in the room and I can still feel and see that now, you love her."

"More then you can even imagine, but it hurts too much."

"Okay then, but just think about it because I know from experience and she'd be hurting just as much as you." Hailey squeezed his arm.

Jay took a deep breath and reached for Hailey's hand giving it a squeeze to reassure her that he appreciated her being there and helping him, "Thankyou Hailey, but why are you doing this?"

"Because I have been through heartbreak, it sucks, but I know sometimes it's worth fighting for. To be honest, yes what she did was horrible and a little bit of me hates her because of how it impacted you but she obviously had to do what she needed to, she probably thought she was protecting you, that's what love does."

"She didn't need to protect me, that was my job, I should have been there for her." Jay said turning away, running his hands through his hair.

"Yeah and Jay was it the same with you? You were trying to protect her when Abby came back into the picture? What good did that do?"

"Come on Hailey that's not fair." Jay said turning to her.

She shrugged, "What? It's no different, I'm telling you love makes us do stupid things."

Jay just shook his head, leaning up against the truck. Hailey walked and stood next to him, "Look of course I'm not telling you what to do and I'm here no matter what, that's what I'm here for. The good and the bad, but I just don't want you to have regrets."

"Your starting to sound just like the shrink I was seeing, when did you become one of them?" Jay chuckled, trying to lighten up the conversation.

"Shut up." Hailey smiled and gave his arm a playful punch, "Now can we go back in?"

Jay nodded, they started walking towards the doors before Jay grabbed her arm, "Hey thanks, for everything these last couple months, if you didn't pull my head in when you did god knows where I'd be."

"That's why you have backup." She smiled and walked off but Jay was stuck in a trance, that was what Erin and Jay said to each other all the time, it was like déjà vu.

"I owe you one.

That's why you have backup."

"Thankyou for everything.

That's why you have backup."

"We'll always have each other's backs.

Always."

That's when he knew, knew he needed to see her and see what she was doing here. He knew that it would bring up old feelings but he couldn't not do it and regret it.

Hailey noticed he wasn't next to her and she quickly turned around, noticing he was still standing there, lost in his thoughts, "Halstead, you coming?"

Jay heard her voice and quickly came back to reality, he started hurrying towards her, "Sorry, yeah I'm coming."

Once they got back up to the bullpen, Jay walked towards Voight's office, giving the door a light knock. Voight waved him in, "Why is she in town Hank?"

"It's not my place, look she is staying at my place. Go talk to her, I know it's going to bring up some things from the past so take some time if you need." Hank said, he cared for the young man and he was about to have his whole life tipped upside down.

"Thanks? So do you mind if I leave early today then? I'd rather go talk to her without you being there, no disrespect." Jay said hoping Hank wouldn't take any offence.

"Go now, we got you covered." Hank said pointing to the door.

"Thanks Sarge, I will see you tomorrow then." Jay nodded as he walking out towards his partners desk.

Hailey looked up towards him as he perched himself on the edge, "You okay?"

"Everything's good, Voight's giving me the day. I'm going to go talk to Erin, see why she is here."

"Okay good, ring me if you need anything, seriously." Hailey said.

"Thanks Hailey, I will talk to you later." Jay said as he smiled and walked out saying bye to the rest of his team, obviously leaving them confused as to why he was leaving after only bring there for half an hour.

All of them quickly surrounded Hailey's desk, before any of them even had a chance to ask a single question she quickly got in before them, "Erin's in town and she wants to speak to Jay."

Everyone gave each other concerning looks, this was a big thing and they all knew it. But before they even had a chance to talk amongst themselves Hank came out of his office with a new case shutting them down from discussion, they all had work to do.
