After a couple hours of barely any news Jay sat next to Erin hand in hand. Still worried, they didn't know what was going to happen and they couldn't make sense of any of it.

Hank walked into the waiting room, quickly the team stood up, Antonio walked towards him, "Anything?"

Hank shook his head, "The baby's still not absorbing oxygen, doctors are working on her. Erins barely talking and Jays trying his best to hold it together but you can tell he's worried."

"Okay, I'm going to go see them, see what's going on." Antonio said as he left the room.

"Okay the rest of you, our job doesn't stop. We need to get back to the district but as soon as I know anything I will let everyone know, the best we can do for the two of them is to think positive thoughts," Hank paused and took a deep breath, "Alright let's get to it."

"You heard the man, let's go." Kev said standing up, it was hard for all of them but they knew they couldn't do anything here they may aswell do what they can and be there for them when they need them.

Antonio slowly walked into the room, he saw Erin laying on the bed, Jay holding her hand bent over in the chair next to it. Jay noticed Antonio standing in the doorway, Erin nodded to him, "Go on, he's worried."

Jay leant over and kissed her forehead before walking out into the corridor. Antonio could see the worry and pain in Jays eyes, he quickly gave him a hug.

As Jay was pulling away he smiled briefly to Antonio, "Hey Tony."

"How's everybody?" Antonio said sadly, already knowing the answer.

"Uh." Jay said as he wiped his eyes, trying to stay strong.

"Yeah, Voight said that there might be some kind of a...problem?" Antonio said resting his hand on Jays shoulder.

"Little Halstead...her lungs ain't working right. Doctors are all over it, so...they don't seem too worried. It's just...it's hard waiting, you know." Jay said sadly.

"Yeah, I get it. Look I'm going to stay here for the two of you, but hey, you gotta hang in there." Antonio said bringing Jay in for another hug.

"Thanks man, I appreciate it."

After a little while the Natalie came in to explain what was going on with little Halstead, "Its called an ECMO machine. It's drawing blood from your daughters carotid artery, oxygenating it, and then putting it back in through a vein in her leg."

"So basically it's breathing for her?" Erin said trying to understand everything.

"Exactly, it's doing the work of her lungs so they can heal." Natalie nodded.

"When can we see her?" Jay asked.

"We're still pretty busy in there adjusting her anti-coagulant dosage," Natalie paused, "Look I'm not going to lie to you, she's in a tough spot, but we're doing everything we can for her."

"Thanks Nat." Erin said as Natalie nodded and walked out.

"Sounds like she's got a real good chance." Will said as he walked in.

"My girls got Lindsay genes, so shes strong and a fighter. That much I know." Jay said giving Erins hand a squeeze.

After a couple hours, still not knowing much Erin was sleeping, she was exhausted. Jay was happy that she was finally giving in and letting her body rest.

He knew that his team had been there since they finished shift so he thought it was time to face them, he knew no matter what they would be there for him to lean on, he walked out with Antonio, as soon as Adam saw him he ran up and gave Jay a hug, "There he is, big daddy Halstead."

"Hey." Jay said patting Adams back as the rest of the unit approached them.

"What's the latest with our girls?" Hank said giving Jay a quick hug.

"Uh, Erins doing the best she can, she's resting right now which is good and uh..." Jay looked around, trying to hold his emotions together, "Little one is still on the machine."

Everyone was speechless, they didn't know what to do or what to say, finally Trudy spoke up, "Hey you want to hear how Ruzek let his guard down once again and got kicked in the balls...once again?"

Jay paused for a minute then smiled, "Yeah, yeah I do."

They all slowly sat down and started talking, trying to get Jays mind onto something else. He was thankful.

Later that night Will caught Jay talking on the phone in the corridor, after Jay hung up he passed him a coffee, "Thought you might need this."

"Thanks, is everyone still here?"

"Yeah, they don't want to leave. Who was that?"

"Dad, I'm assuming you called him?" Jay asked.

"Yeah, sorry." Will said not sure if he was about to get a mouthful from his brother.

"All good, I told him he can come see the baby when...you know, everything's good." Jay shrugged.

"Everything will be good Jay."

"I really hope so, I just don't know what I will do if Umm..." Jay said quickly shutting down, Will bought him in for a hug as he held his brother, trying his best to comfort him. He'd never seen his brother this vulnerable.

After Jay had sorted himself out he went back in to sit with Erin, he needed to be there for her, he need to be strong for her. After a few minutes, the team walked in.

"How's everybody doing in here?" Trudy said as she bent down to give Erin a kiss on the cheek, followed by everybody else, except Hank and Antonio who had already been in the room.

"We're getting by guys, we're getting by." Erin smiled at everyone who stood in front of her.

"Thought we'd all come in to say goodbye, you two need to get some rest, but we will all be back here tomorrow." Kim said as she squeezed Erins hand.

"Thanks guys, we appreciate you all being here." Jay said as he got up to hug everyone.

Before they all started leaving Natalie walked in, "Hey guys, so we have started to ween little Halstead off the ECMO machine and it does look like her lungs are improving."

"So it's means she's out of the woods?" Erin said with hope.

"Well, it means her lungs are recovering, but once she's off the machine and no longer sedated, we are going to have to monitor her for neurological deficits. She was oxygen deprived for quite a while." Natalie said sadly.

"Your talking about brain damage?" Jay said as he rubbed his face.

"We'll just have to wait and see." Natalie said, she then walked out.

Erin turned to Jay and started tearing up, Jay wiped her tears away as he gave her a hug.

Everyone else looked at each other a nodded, they weren't going anywhere. Kim, Adam and Hank stayed in the room with Erin and Jay while the rest headed back to the waiting room. They didn't care how tired each and everyone of them was, they needed to be here for them.

The next morning, after a long night the unit had to get back to work. But every chance they got they were going to check in. Jay was standing beside Erin when Natalie and Will walked in, followed by April who was wheeling in their baby girl.

"Okay, who wants to be the first to hold baby Halstead?" Natalie said as she smiled.

"Oh my god." Erin and Jay both said in shock, finally they could said their baby.

"Look at her." Jay said as he slowly walked over and gently picked up his daughter.

"She's off the machine." Erin stated.

"And breathing normally," Natalie smiled, "And preliminary tests reveal no deficits."

"I can't believe it." Erin smiled as she watched Jay and their baby girl.

"We're going to have to monitor her for a long time of that, but we are all very hopeful." Natalie said continuing to smile.

"Then so am I." Jay said as he rocked his daughter gently.

He started walking carefully over to Erin, "Hey baby girl, hey."

Erin held out her arms, "Your gunna share the baby?" Everyone laughed, as Jay gently placed his daughter into Erins arms.

"Hey beautiful, hey." Erin said smiling as she stroked the little ones rosy cheeks.

A couple seconds best and they heard a knock at the door, it was the unit, "Hey you guys, Will called us and told us the good news."

"Hey everybody." Jay said as he smiled, continuing to look at his daughter, he couldn't get enough.

"She's beautiful." Hank said as he walked closer.

"She sure is," Jay said looking at Erin, "Just like her mother."
