The idea of the Chaosweaver class interested me, especially when I reached Secundus and talked to him. The idea that just by going through that portal gave him command over you fascinated me, and the implications were dire. I had to know more, so I made this.

I do not own DragonFable.

Aurora wandered the streets of Ravenloss, it had been a long time since she had a chance to explore down there, and she wanted to see how much had changed since she was frozen. She ventured into storefronts and down side streets, happily losing herself in the maze.

It's hard to believe that this place used to be ruled by spiders. Now its a sanctuary for refugees escaping The Rose.

She squeezed through an alleyway and found herself facing an unmarked building. A Clawkin sat by the entrance.

"Hey there," it said.

"Hi." Aurora responded.

"You're the one who stopped the void, right?"

"Yes."

"I knew it! Thank you! I'm Yu Nohu!"

Is everybody's name a pun? Aurora thought, chuckling to herself. "Well it's very nice to meet you. What are you doing here anyway? I thought Clawkin liked to be in places a bit more...wild."

"Sure we do." Yu Nohu said, "But it's nice to visit new places and meet new people."

"Yeah..." Aurora said, wistfully, "but sometimes it's nice to see old friends." She thought of Tomix and felt an ache of sadness take over. Tomix was her friend, and she failed him. She should have found a way to stop Envy without ending Tomix's life in the process. She made a promise to save him, and she couldn't keep it. She vowed that she would never let that happen again, especially to her friends. "Sometimes old friends are all you have in the world..." She whispered to herself.

"Are you okay?" Yu Nohu asked.

Shaking off her thoughts, she flashed a smile in the Clawkin's direction. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just lost in thought, and that's lost." She said, distracting herself with a self-deprecating joke.

"I get lost, too. In fact, just now I got lost and went inside this building here. It looks like an abandoned inn. I wanted to explore, but it gave me the creeps so I left. Anyway, it was nice meeting you!" Yu Nohu said before getting up, "Maybe we'll see each other later. Bye now!" Yu Nohu scampered off, darting into another alleyway. The click of the Clawkin's claws on the stone streets soon faded, and Aurora was left alone.

Abandoned inn, huh? Aurora thought, turning towards the unmarked door. Well I did want to explore.

She pushed the door open and stepped inside. It took a few moments to her eyes to adjust to the gloom, but she was soon able to make out empty barrels and broken tables. Her hand tightened on her staff, something felt off about this place, the very air itself felt wrong. It filled her with an unsettling feeling, not unlike the general dread she had when she fought Kathool. Suppressing her nervousness, she explored further.

Her hand brushed against a collapsed table. It came up clean. There was no dust in this place, no cobwebs, nothing that would be there if this place really was abandoned. Following a hunch, she opened a cupboard. Inside were the remains of long rotted food. She didn't like this picture, someone must be there, or at least, had been there recently.

"Hello?" She called out, barely keeping the tremor in her voice down. The unsettling feeling was getting worse, every instinct she had was screaming at her, telling her to flee. She could feel her uneasiness morphing into panic, and she was glad that her dragon decided to stay napping in Falconreach, this place was wrong!

As she turned to leave, a shwoop sound startled her, and she turned to see that a portal had opened. Fighting to keep herself from turning tail and bolting into the city, she looked closer, a fiery landscape was visible.

Alarmed, she shifted into a ready stance, one hand raised with a spell just on her fingertips. She stood there for several minutes, waiting, but no fire elementals appeared. She took a cautious step closer, it was difficult to see, but someone was there, staring at her.

"No, not here. Not now." The hero said. "Ravenloss doesn't need this." Pushing down her fear, she walked towards the portal. The entire city was filled with people, she had to nip this in the bud before whatever was there decided to invade Ravenloss and put the lives of everyone there at risk. Because if there's one thing that she knew, it's that nothing good ever comes from a portal leading to a fire dimension.

At her first step through the portal, she fell to her knees. Her staff clattered to the ground as she clutched her head. It felt like claws were sinking into her brain! She bit her tongue to suppress the scream, tasting blood as she did. A voice reverberated through here head, bouncing around her skull.

"You are mine now."

"No..." She forced out, "Stop it..."

"I will be your owner."

"Get out of my head!" Aurora cried out. The pain intensified, and she collapsed fully onto the ground, struggling in vain as a foreign presence clawed through her mind. "No one owns me!" She reached for her staff, crawling along the ground. Her fingers brushed against it, and she lunged for it. As her hand wrapped around it, she could feel the light magic rush through her, and the pain lessened slightly, she was able to struggle to her feet, using her staff as a crutch.

"It is useless." The presence said.

"I'm not giving up without a fight!" She staggered as a lance of pain stabbed her mind. She turned her eyes to the figure standing just a few feet away. It was a red elemental spirit with four eyes staring her down. A ball of light formed at her fingertips and she launched it towards the malevolent spirit, it ducked underneath and glided closer to her. Aurora launched another light ball, followed quickly by another. The red spirit dodged the first, but grunted as the second hit. Aurora's vision whited out as the presence doubled down in her mind, and she fell once more towards the ground, staff bouncing away from her as it fell.

"You will learn to never strike out at me, but you would be worthless to me if you did not lash out."

Aurora's hands returned to her head, the radiating pain made it impossible to move, so she focused her attention inwards. Concentrating, she tried to force the spirit out of her mind. The claws sank deeper.

"Futile."

The foreign presence morphed into a face, a face with four eyes staring at her through her mind. Her struggles began to still.

"That's it. Submit to me. You belong to me now. Accept it."

"No...no...no..." She reached with her mind to her dragon, Amaterasu. Come to me. Help me.

"Your dragon can't hear you now."

"Maybe...maybe Aegis can." She pushed her emotions outward, hoping against hope that he would feel her through their SoulBond.

"Yes, bring him here too."

"Yes." Aurora whispered. "Wait, no! That's just what you want! I won't let you control- AAAARRRRGH!" She broke off into a scream. Aegis, if you can hear me, don't come here.

"Submit to me. It'll hurt less if you just accept it."

I won't let you! Aurora thought.

"Then I will force my way in."

Aurora felt the presence push deeper into her mind, she could feel its will overpowering her. Summoning everything she knew about magic, she somehow managed to form another ball of magic, this time without the focusing and amplification powers of her staff and she launched it towards the spirit in a last desperate hope.

But to no avail.

With one last agonizing pulse Aurora finally stilled. The presence she was fighting against now fully entrenched in her mind. She opened her mouth, but no sound came out. She wanted to move, but she could not. What's happening?

"I happened. From now on, I will accompany you as you perform many deeds, great and small. Whatever you decide, your choices will be mine as well. Whatever I decide, you must do. Is that understood?"

She could speak now, "Yes."

It was the only thing she could say.

A dart of pale blue cut the air above her, narrowly missing her new master.

"What happened? What did he do to you?" Aegis said, alarm in his eyes.

"I made her mine." The voice cut in, "I am Secundus."

Aegis's eyes widened. "It's you..." he whispered, then shook his head, "It doesn't matter. Just let her go!"

Aurora pulled herself to her feet. "Aegis," she said, "I need you." What for though, she didn't know. Was she asking for him to help free her, or was she asking for him to become a part of her power. It terrified her that she didn't know. "Aegis, please."

"What did he do to you?" Aegis said, shock filling his gaze.

"I don't know." Aurora said, her cheeks were wet, she wondered why. But she also knew why. She wanted Aegis to run away. She wanted Aegis to help her. She wanted Aegis's power for her own. "I don't know which thoughts are mine."

A distressed look crossed Aegis's face. "Oh no..."

Secundus didn't waste a moment. He turned his red SoulThreads onto Aegis, dragging him to the ground. "You are needed."

"AEGIS!" Aurora screamed. Her racing thoughts stilled as Secundus gave her mind a warning press.

"You will join her power as she embraces the ChaosWeaver within her. You will enter her soul, you will become a tool for her to use."

A strange look crossed Aegis's face, before it morphed into a snarl. "Go ahead then!"

Secundus seemed taken aback at that, but he grinned. "As you wish."

Aurora felt both victory and dismay well up within her. "Aegis..."

"It's okay. I'm going to make it okay, I promise." Aegis said, turning his blue eyes to Aurora's orange ones. "Don't worry about me, I'm the elemental spirit of Valor, I can take it."

Secundus raised his arms and Aurora felt Aegis entering her very soul. She screamed to the blasted skies above, in triumph, in pain, in sorrow, all three, none at all, Aurora didn't know, she couldn't begin to know.

Avatars help me.

Though she did not know which thoughts were her own and which were Secundus's, she at least knew one clear thought lie unfettered in her chained mind: She would regret walking through that portal until the day she died.

The idea of mind-slavery always fascinated me, so I jumped on the opportunity to write it for myself.

Thanks for reading.

See you next time.
