Erin raced down to Platt's desk, holding Lily in her carrier barely able to stay on her two feet. She has no idea what happened and no one was answering their phones. This wasn't good.
"Trudy!" Erin said holding back tears as Trudy shouted orders to the other officers in the district, people were running everywhere.
"Oh Erin! Come on I will drive you to med, they are on route." Trudy said yelling for someone to man her desk.
Erins face dropped, "So it's Jay?"
"You didn't know, okay yes I have been notified saying it was Halstead, they are doing everything they can. Come on let's get you to med, your not in the right head space to drive yourself."
Erin nodded as she helplessly followed Platt, this was her worst nightmare. Why would Jay do this, she knew it's was because he had such a big heart but this was too much. He was trying to help another family but what about his own.
...
"10-1. 10-1, officer down." Voight said with a shaky voice into his radio.
"Jay, stay with me. Stay with me, Jay." Hailey said keeping pressure on his wounds.
"His vitals are dropping. He's losing too much blood." One of the medics said.
"Set up an Officer Down detail to Med. Get those cars here now." Voight yelled to another officer that was standing nearby.
"Hang in there, Jay." Kim said standing by his side as they started wheeling him out the warehouse.
"Hey, move it. Clear out. Clear. Come on." Voight said angrily as they started moving past everyone.
"Hold on," The medic said before getting Jay in the ambo, "Let's move now."
Hailey quickly ran into the ambulance, "I'm going with them."
The rest of the team stood there watching the ambo drive off, this was not what they wanted to happen. But they needed to stay positive, have hope.
Voight walked over to the sergeant in charge of the officers "Hey, hey. I need this escort clean. You shut down every street along the way. Go."
He watched as the man got into his car and drive off, following the ambo wit half a dozen other cop cars. "This is 5021. I need all available. Notify Med. We have a GSW to the chest en route. He's one of our own."
...
Erin and Platt turned up at the same time the ambulance with Jay was arriving, Trudy told Erin to go she had Lily under control.
Erin ran as fast as she could, yelling for someone to give her information. She looked down and nearly passed out when she saw him, she felt so sick.
"Erin!" Hailey said as she got out of the ambulance behind them.
"Jay, hey baby it's going to be okay. Your going to be okay." Erin said grabbing his hand but it just slipped away when she was pulled back by Will.
"Erin you gotta let them do their jobs." Will said trying to stay calm himself.
"Come on, let's get you to the waiting room." Will said holding Erin tightly, preventing her from falling over.
Once they got to the waiting room the whole place started filling with other officers and their team. The whole thing was a blur to Erin though and the whole place was so quiet. It was like she wasn't there and the whole universe was moving in slow motion.
"Erin, Erin, Erin!" Hank said trying to get Erins attention as he knelt in front of her.
"Huh, what?" Erin said shaking her head.
"Where's Lily?" He questioned concerned.
"She's right here, I got her." Trudy said as she sat next to Erin who didn't move, Lily was crying her eyes out and Erin couldn't even look at her she was blank with emotion.
"Hailey stay with Erin, I will go and try calm Lil down." Hank said, Hailey nodded and took a seat next to Erin. She took Erins hand in hers and kept squeezing it, hoping Erin knew that she wasn't alone.
...
After a couple hours of no word about Jay, Erin was now started to step back into the universe, she was still distraught but she was talking to everyone and holding her daughter tightly in her arms as she slept. It was the only thing making her calm and was giving her the slightest bit of hope.
"Hey Erin, I can take her for abit if you want? So you can go get some food? A coffee maybe?" Trudy said.
"Uh no I'm fine, thanks Trudy." Erin said shaking her head.
Finally Will stepped into the waiting room, hopefully with some information. Erin quickly put Lily into her pram and stood up with the rest of her team awaiting the news.
"Uh, hey everyone." Will said trying to clear the lump in his throat.
"I just talked to Dr. Rhodes. He said the bullet
grazed an artery. They're still trying
to repair it." Will said.
"Will? Is he gonna be okay?" Hank asked as he held onto Erin.
"He's lost a lot of blood. It's still touch and go, I wish I had more information." Will said sadly.
"When can we see him?" Erin said stepping forward.
"I don't know Erin, I will let you know as soon as I know." He said, before giving her a hug.
...
Another six hours later and there was finally news, Will come out with Dr Rhodes. The only people left in the waiting room at this point was Erin, Hailey and Trudy.
"Hey guys, he's okay. We were able to fully repair the artery and there was no structural damage. He will be moved into the ICU in a little bit, someone will come and get you when he is and then you can see him." Rhodes said before walking off.
Erin quickly hugged Will, "So he's going to be fine?"
"Yeah he is, will be on light duties for a while and will need to wear a sling aswell as some rehab but after that he should be fine." Will nodded.
"Okay, thanks Will." Erin nodded and then walked over to Lily who was sleeping soundly in her pram.
"Uh, guys I'm going to head home. Get a couple things and organise someone to look after her then I will come back." Erin said awkwardly as she started packing her stuff up.
"You sure Erin? Jay should be moved any minute then you can go sit with him until he wakes up?" Will said confused as he looked between Trudy and Hailey.
"Yeah I will be back when he's awake, bye guys." Erin said as she headed out, thankfully it was her car that Trudy had driven over so she didn't have to wait around for someone to take her home.
Everyone stood there confused when Erin left, they thought for sure she'd want to be there as he woke up but she was pissed at him. Why would he lie to her, put some much worry on their family? She didn't care about her being left with no one but the thought of Lily being left without a father crippled her. She didn't want to be angry at him and she was so thankful he was fine but she needed a moment to herself otherwise she would go in there and lose it.
Trudy looked towards Hailey as Will walked away, "I'm going to go back tot he district, tell Voight and the others. You going to stay?"
"Yeah I might, just until he wakes up and Voight's here then I will go." Hailey said as she sat back down.
...
When they moved Jay to ICU it wasn't long until he woke up, he was thankful he had someone waiting there for him but he was surprised when it was Hailey, where the hell was Erin?
"How are you feeling?" Hailey said standing up next to him.
"Like I was asleep for a year." Jay said quietly.
"You needed a little rest." Hailey joked.
"Hailey? You know I hate hospitals," Hailey nodded, "You got to get me out of here."
"It's not optional, no." Hailey shook her head.
"Uh where's Erin?" Jay said looking around, no she definitely wasn't here.
"Um, she left when she knew you were okay, took Lily home to feed her and get her some rest." Hailey explained.
"She's pissed at me in other words?" Jay said upset and disappointed in himself.
"She didn't say anything Jay..."
Hailey was cut off when Voight walked in, "Hey."
"Hey." Jay replied.
"How's the shoulder?" Voight asked.
"It feels like I'll be flying a little crooked for a while." Jay said.
"I went and talked to Will, and he said no structural damage, so you got lucky." Voight said as he tapped Jays leg.
"I guess you could call it that," Jay said with no emotion, "How's Angela doing?"
"She's under arrest." Voight said.
"Sarge, is there anything we can do for her?" Jay asked.
"Jay, she tried to kill you. Okay, she's getting charged. Full freight." Voight explained.
"She knows the truth. And what happened to Marcus, that's on us." Jay said sadly.
"Just worry about getting better, that's all, okay?" Jay nodded, "Hailey can you give us a sec?"
"Yeah sure, think it's time for me to head to the district anyway. I'm glad your okay Jay, see you guys." Hailey said as she walked out.
"Why did you hide all of this from Erin?" Voight asked.
"She didn't need to know, we were in a good space, putting this on her would have just made shit hit the fan." Jay explained.
"So this outcome is better? At the moment all she is thinking about is that fact that you care more about some other family then your own." Voight said, those words shattered Jay, this wasn't what he wanted to happen.
"Do you know if she is going to come here?" Jay asked.
"I don't know, I tried ringing her when I knew she left but nothing. I will go see her after this and try get her to come here, but you can't blame her for being angry." Voight said.
"Yeah I know." Jay said titling his head back on the pillow, he had no legs to stand on, no excuses, nothing.
"Sorry we have to run some tests on our patient." A nurse said interrupting them.
"Just focus on getting better and I will try get Erin here." Voight said before leaving.
"Thanks sarge."
...
Erin was startled by loud knocks at her door, for the last hour she was sitting blankly on the couch. She didn't know whether to cry, yell or scream.
She stood up and walked to the door, looking through the peephole, 'Great, what the hell is he doing here?' She thought to herself before opening the door.
"Hank, what are you doing here?" She questioned.
"Could ask you the same thing," he said stepping inside, "How's Lil?"
"Exhausted. It's been a long day."
"For the both of you, have you eaten anything?"
"Uh no, but you don't have to worry about me Hank, I'm good." Erin said.
"Erin your still breastfeeding, if you don't eat that effects Lily."
"So you aren't worried about me then?" Erin scoffed.
"I'm not the enemy here Erin, talk to me."
"I'm so fucking angry Hank! Why would he do this! He lied, he could have talked to me about what was going on, or talk to you or his partner! Someone!" Erin said slamming her fists on the kitchen counter.
"I know he lied but you just have to talk to him, understand why he done it." Hank said going around to hug Erin, try calm her down.
Erin could barely speak with the tears that were now flooding her eyes and choking up the back of her throat, "Hank it was a lie that almost left his daughter without a father, I don't know if I can forgive that."
Hank took a deep breath, "We will figure it out, don't worry."
