Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't updated this story, I was getting my other story from Wattpad uploaded, if you haven't already it's all up now and it's completed. So now it's time to get back to this story! Stay tuned.

One week left. One more week of being at home 24/7 with Lily. One more week and she was back on the streets. Was Erin nervous? Of course. Not because she was doubting going back to work but because she was rejoining her old team. She knew that they were her family and she'd be welcomed back with open arms but she didn't just want to jump back in and step on any toes.

Thankfully Hank took Lily for the day so Erin could freshen up at the shooting range and of course show Jay that she still had it. He aswell was nervous, he knew she could handle herself but he was worried where her head would be at, he didn't want her worrying too much on the job and he knew she'd take things even more personally now she was a mum. It wouldn't take long for him to find out though.

After an hour of shooting Erin stopped and took off her glasses and earmuffs. She stepped back and sighed, she felt great but it was becoming all so real. She was actually doing this, going back. It was going to be so different and god she was going to miss Lil.

Suddenly she felt an arm on her shoulder which bought her back to reality, "How'd you do babe?"

"Have a look for yourself," Erin said proudly as she nodded her head forward to the target infront of her.

"My girl still has it."

Erin chuckled, "Did you really have no faith in me?"

"Well no it's just I kinda hoped you would have been a little rusty, maybe even rusty enough for me to beat you," he smirked.

"And because I was not at all rusty you can take me out for lunch mr." Erin said as she grabbed her things and started to walk out.

Jay rolled his eyes, "Always hungry."

One week later.

"You ready?" Jay said looking over to Erin in the passenger seat. She looked perfect and like the same old girl he fell I love with. He forget how much he'd missed seeing her in her tight skinny jeans, top tucked in, combat boots and her badge and gun holstered to her hip. She was his beautiful badass.

"I think so." She said taking a deep breath.

"It's not like your stepping into the unknown Er."

"I know it's just different this time, I have a little person to think about. I thought I was ready but maybe I'm not, maybe I'm not meant to do this anymore."

Jay took her head in his, "Erin Lindsay I know how much you love our daughter and you are the perfect mother. But I know for a fact that you are ready to do this, your going to miss her like crazy but I know you and this is the right decision but if you want to turn around and go home I will support you. Whatever you want."

Erin smiled and lifted his hand up to kiss it, "You always know the right thing to say don't you?"

"I try."

Walking up the steps with her badge on her hip felt good. Felt right. This was the right step for her, to be home with her family and friends, to raise her daughter in this beautiful city and to have Jay by her side. It was all right again.

As they reached the top of the stairs Erin was greeted into open arms just as she thought. The team was so thrilled to have her back. But Jays main concern was who was she going to be partnered up with?

Hank stepped out of his office with a file in hand, "We just got handed over a case, string of house robberies. Now with Lindsay being back I want to switch up partners. Al and Ruzek, Atwater and Burgess, Dawson and Upton, Halstead and Lindsay."

Every shared looks and Jay knew for sure that people were going to question whether him and Lindsay being partnered up would be a good idea, after last time. But at least he would be able to have her back.

Jay and Erin were told to go question neighbours from the most recent robbery, the car ride was awkwardly silent, Jay wasn't entirely sure what was going through her mind, "Er you okay?"

"Yeah why's that? Just trying to stay focused."

Jay pulled up out the front of the location, he turned the GMC off but grabbed Erins hand before she could get out, "I'm not stupid, I can see the cogs turning in your brain, what's going on?"

Erin sighed and turned to Jay, "I think some people more then others have an issue with us being partners again, after everything that happened last time."

"Hailey?"

"It's fine honestly Jay, I'm not bothered by it. Hailey helped you get through a lot after I left and that would have created a good partnership, so I can understand how she would be feeling." Erin smiled, she was being honest with him and she did hope that Hailey would come around to it and be okay.

"I will talk to her, make sure the air is clear."

"Just leave it Jay. Seriously. Now we have work to do." Erin said as she got out of the car, Jay sighed and took a few seconds and then followed.

After questioning a few of the neighbours they got a couple possible leads so Al and Adam were chasing them up.

Once Erin and Jay had gotten back to the district, Erin was busy chasing up some things so Jay thought it was the perfect opportunity to talk to Voight while Erin was occupied.

Jay stood up and walked to Voight's office, he knocked a couple times then stepped inside, Voight looked up and noticed Jay had shut the door, he leant back in his chair waiting for what the young man had to say.

"Sarge I want to know why you partnered Erin and me up again. Don't get me wrong it feels great to have her by my side but I just want to know your reasons, as I'm sure everyone else does too. Because the last couple shifts we were on together we weren't partners." Jay said standing there patiently waiting for an explanation.

"Halstead sit," Voight paused, pointing to the seat infront of his desk, "You and Erin were a pain in the ass since the very first day I partnered the two of you up, but you were great partners. When the two of you went your separate ways for which I don't know and the only concern I had was how you would work together after it. Some days were better then others and when Upton joined the unit I thought it was the perfect opportunity to let the two of you have some space. But Upton didn't have Lindsay's back like you would have, Erin would have never overstepped if you were by her side. I'm not saying it's Hailey's fault and she is a great detective but she doesn't understand Erin like you do, no one does. So that's why, because I know you understand how much of a hothead pain in the ass she can be and I know you can handle that. So can you?"

Jay felt a small smile form on his lips, he was surprised at Voights words and how much he showed his appreciation (if that's what you call it) to Jay.

"Always."
