Hey guys! I'm back with another chapter.
Thanks for the reviews!
Enjoy!
I don't own Maid Sama! or any of its characters.
Takumi turned back, and sighed. But despite the feeling of lightness in his heart, something was not right.
Something wasn't right; it was as if she were saying a goodbye. As in farewell forever, instead of a see you tomorrow.
And the more he thought about it, the more it terrified him.
Why did she have that look in her eyes?
And there was only one person in the world he could vent out his feelings to.
"Tamami?"
She hummed in response, and looked up from her phone, taking off her headphone set and keeping it on the small table between their beds.
Following the headphones on their travel to the table, he remembered the first time she'd used it. It was their birthday, and it was the first time they had been able to afford to buy proper gifts for each other. Tamami loved music, and buying her a pair of headphones seemed like a wonderful gift for someone who liked singing and listening to music so much. She'd been super happy when she opened her present, giving her brother a big hug and a kiss on the cheek.
Tamami looked at her brother's face, and immediately knew he was worried about something.
"So she rejected you?"
Hearing the laugh in her voice, he scowled.
"No, I didn't confess."
"Yeah, I know. Just wanted to try saying that."
He scowled again, and then said, "I don't know why, it's just…I got this unsettled feeling in my stomach. Like there was something wrong…."
"Maybe it's because you can't bear to part with your beloved…?"
"Tamami."
"Haha, sorry. Why?"
"She just…had this look in her eyes, as if….she wasn't going to see me again."
"….."
"I don't know, Tamami."
"Why don't just sleep off your worry? If she doesn't come tomorrow, we'll know whether your assumption is correct or not."
"….Very helpful, Tamami."
"There's nothing you can do, Takumi, other than have a good night's rest and then think about it with a clear head."
Sighing, he complied, and took the mop and bucket.
"You coming?"
"Yeah. The only reason I was waiting was for you to finish your candlelit dinner with your lover."
"…."
"Kidding!"
The next day, they opened the shop early; mostly since Takumi woke up early; and in the process woke up Tamami as well. Slouched and grumbling about lovesick idiots and whatnot, she made her way to the chair behind the counter and slumped into it, yawning.
"Why couldn't you have gone for a morning jog or something if you were so excited to see her? You just had to wake me up…."
"Oh, shut it, sleepyhead. Get your lazy ass off the chair and go turn the sign."
"…."
"Tamami?"
He turned back, to see her slumped forward onto the counter, fast asleep.
"Seriously….."
Chuckling quietly, he brought out both their blankets and draped both of them on her, tucking her in gently.
"I'll be waking you up as soon as we get a customer, 'kay?"
The bell chimed, and he looked up again; only to be disappointed.
Nope, isn't her.
Tamami was busy making another customer's parfait. Looking up at her brother's sigh, she smiled.
This guy is whipped.
The bell chimed again, bringing with it the object of Takumi's frustration.
Ah, there she is.
Tamami glanced back at her brother; all of his sulking demeanor had vanished, and now he could finally make the puree properly without adding pickles by mistake.
"Um, hey, Usui-san."
Takumi looked up instantly at the sound of that voice.
"You can just call me Usui, you know. What is it, Ayuzawa?"
"Um, just thought I'd get a chocolate chip brownie tart too."
He raised his eyebrows, all the while trying to ignore Tamami glancing over to them.
"Why so sudden?"
"Haha, just wanted a bit of a change. Thought I might as well take something to eat too."
"Yeah, I get that. It's gonna take a while, though. You mind waiting?"
"Sure."
"I'll call you when it's done, or give it to you there."
"Oh, no, its fine. I'll just watch. I like watching people cook, even though I can't cook myself."
"You can't cook?!"
"Haha, yeah. I know it's weird, and don't judge me, but literally the moment I enter a kitchen, I'll set the place on fire, and set off the smoke alarm. There was this one time where I activated the sprinklers as well."
Stunned, Takumi stared at her, wondering whether that was even possible. Tamami stopped too, surprised there was actually a chance that could happen to anyone.
Misaki chuckled, and continued.
"I know you guys don't believe me, since you guys are chefs, but you can ask Tora if you want. He never lets me in the kitchen at all."
Hearing her talk about the man with such ease made Takumi rather uneasy. Ducking to take the chocolate chips from the cabinet, he found the box to be empty.
Not a single chocolate chip to be found.
Turning to his sister, he called, "Tamami?"
"Hmm?"
"Where did the choco chips go to?"
Hearing the anger in his voice, she stiffened, and then turned to look at him slowly; a comical scared expression on her face.
"Uhhh…I don't know?"
"Why is that a question, Tamami?"
"Uh….it…..wasn't…..my…fault….?"
"Right, and my name isn't Usui Takumi."
"Heheh, you…..ehh…."
Takumi turned to Misaki, who was shaking with the effort of suppressing her laughter.
Sighing, Takumi said, "Tamami has…this, uh….mega-obsession with choco chips. So, uh…..you know what happened."
"Yup."
"Now what am I supposed to do about your tart?"
"I, uhh….could run to the shop real quick and get some…" Tamami said, scratching her head.
"Tamami. Are you sure you won't just hog the whole thing right after you buy it?"
"….You have a lot of faith in me."
"Come on, Tamamiii…..You just had to gobble up the café's supply of choco chips, didn't you?"
"Weeeeell….that isn't really my fault. You should have replenished my stock when you went to the store."
"Uh-huh."
Misaki spoke up.
"Um, I actually happened to have a box of choco chips at my flat. I could get it right now if-"
"Nono, we couldn't take your stuff! I'll go to the store and get some-"
"But that'll take you a lot of time. My flat is really close by, I could run over and get it."
"Then you'll have to have Takumi accompany you."
"…."
"What? You're doing us a huge favor, at least Takumi could accompany you. I'll watch over the café. Go on, you two."
"But Tamami-"
"Off you go now, shoo!"
Takumi got the gist; this was Tamami's way of saying 'sorry' for the choco chips.
He smiled, removing the apron and donning his coat, and followed Misaki to the doors.
But his smile soon morphed into a look of irritation which he turned back and pointed at Tamami when she yelled, "Have fun!"
But it was only met by her cheery grin and wave.
Sighing, he walked beside Misaki, out into the blazing sun of the afternoon.
Oho, I wonder what Misaki's flat's gonna be like! The fact that she was comfortable enough to allow Takumi to come with her counts, doesn't it?
Before I sign off though, I wanted to give you guys a random something to munch on; why do you think that Takumi decides to become a doctor in the manga? I have my own thoughts about it, but I wanted to see what other people thought about it first. You guys can PM me or just put your thoughts in the reviews section.
