The day was dragging, lead after lead and still nothing. No wonder it was passed off to them, but they weren't even sure. Jay could tell Erin was getting frustrated, she kept checking her phone and he knew it was because she was worried about Lil. Her first day on the job and Lily's first day at daycare and then getting looked after by a babysitter until they clocked off. Erin hated the idea but they did find a lovely Nanny that they both trusted. Especially after the several background checks, but could anyone expect less from the new parents? They were detectives.

Finally a lead, two brothers. One more dangerous then the other one. They had been suspects before in their hometown and a witness had said they saw the two lingering around. They had a location so they were instructed to gear up.

Jays heart skipped a beat when he walked down to the roll up, the first thing he saw was Erin doing, or trying to do up her vest. This was the part he missed the most, checking to make sure she was safe. Atleast as safe as she could be.

Jay carefully approached her, he reached his hands up to tighten the straps. He could feel the tenseness of her body but when she figured out who it was she quickly relaxed, "Things still haven't changed have they."

"Somethings have to stay the same, I bet you didn't have this in New York." Jay said.

"Nah I had someone hotter," Erin joked, but when she felt Jays hands pull back she spun around and smiled, "Of course not you big idiot."

"So you say you worked with someone hotter and then you call me a big idiot, full of compliments today Lindsay." Jay said annoyed, but with a tiny laugh.

"Only for the special ones." She smiled as she walked off to load her weapons.

Jay watched her walk away and smiled, special. Huh, that was something else. It was good that they easily fell back into this, but he was worried about one thing, one persons feelings, Hailey. And he hoped he'd be able to talk to her soon, make sure she was okay with all of this. He hated the fact that she probably felt blindsided about the whole situation and he wanted to tell her he'd still always be there for her, because she was there for him.

Luckily the lead was the right one, the two brothers were in the same location and they had items that were reported stolen, so thankfully everything all added up.

It was late and Erin was eager to get home and relieve the Nanny, all she wanted was the three of them to snuggle up on the lounge.

Jay told her to go home and he would meet her there, he explained how he felt about the whole Upton thing and she understood completely.

He organised a drink at Molly's with her, they drove together making small talk but nothing about what was on his mind. Once they arrived they got a beer and got seated on a table, thankfully it wasn't extremely busy so no one would have to shout over one another.

"So Jay you want to tell me why you actually asked me out for a beer?" Hailey smirked as she sipped her beer, she was a detective so she definitely knew that Jay had something on his mind.

"I just want to make sure your okay about all this, me and Erin being partnered up again. I just know we were in a good place, we both had one another's back and you got me through a really dark time in my life, I owe you everything for that."

"Jay you seriously don't have to do this, I'm fine. Honestly. I mean maybe I'm a little shocked? Maybe I might not think it's the greatest idea but I'm sure Voight has his reasons."

Jay sighed, "Look I spoke to Hank about all of this, I asked him why he partnered Erin and I up."

Hailey looked at him shocked, "Why? Did you not want that."

"Honestly?" She nodded, "I don't know what I wanted. Yes I'm happy that she's back and I'm glad I'm the one who has her back, not that I doubt anyone else on our team. But then I remember we have a daughter together and we can't be questioning our movements because of that, I just worry if we are in a situation involving the both of us I don't know what I would do."

"So your worried about both of you getting hurt and Lily being left alone?" Hailey asked and she could see Jays eyes water up.

"I know I can't think that but I feel like I have to now."

"Your allowed to be worried Jay, that's what makes you, you and an even better father. Lily is lucky to have you," Hailey smiled, "So what were Voights reasons?"

"He said that I know how much of a hot head she can be, after everything that went down on her last case with intelligence and Hailey no one blames you for Erins actions, he just knows that I can handle what's going through her head. I can stop her before she hits rock bottom."

Hailey smiled, "I get that and I think it's a smart idea. But that doesn't mean I still won't look out for you, make sure you always go home to that little girl of yours."

Jay raised his beer, "I'll always have you back to Hailey, once again I'm thankful for everything you did. If it wasn't for you I probably wouldn't be around to see my daughter grow up, I don't know where my head was at back then but I will never make a mistake like that again."

"Good. I'd certainly hope not because you won't only have me kicking your ass you will have Lindsay too." They both chuckled as they finished there drinks and talked some more.

Jay felt relieved now. He knew Hailey would be okay with it that's just who she was but he wanted to make sure for sure. He didn't want to lose her as a friend also and he wanted her to share and opinions if she had any but she supported it, she had supported Erin being back in his life from the start and that's what made her a good friend.

After clearing things up with Hailey Jay was glad to be home. He walked in making sure to unholster his gun and unclip his badge, putting them in the safe in the entry way. He then quickly took his shoes off and placed them on the mat, he smiled when he done so. He was finally wearing off on Erin, it was the first time he didn't have to bend down to straighten any of the other shoes up.

He made his way into the living room were his gaze fell on Erin and Lily, she was sitting on the rocking chair that she made Jay buy so she had one in the living room too. She was rocking back and fourth while she cradled Lily in her arms, Lily was playing with her fingers and he could tell the little girl was fighting sleep while her mother tried to sing her nursery rhymes.

Jay walked over and bent down infront of them, he could tell Erin was thankful to see him, "Little past your bedtime isn't it munchkin?" He said kissing his daughter gently on her head.

"I think she just wanted her daddy to put her down. She's definitely a daddy's girl." Erin quietly chuckled, passing Lily to Jay.

Jay stood up and it didn't take long for Lily to cuddle in to Jays warmth, closing her arms immediately, "See!" Erin said, no matter what she would instantly calm to Jay.

"I will go put her down, meet you in bed." He said kissing Erins cheek as he walked off.

Once he had settled Lily down, he stepped back to take it all in. He never even thought this would happen and if it did not for a while. He still thought it was so crazy how this tiny little human was half him and the woman he was crazy about.

Finally he made his way into their bedroom, Erin was sitting up waiting for him, he was surprised she wasn't asleep yet.

"How did it go?"

"Everything's good," Erin gave him a questioning looking, "Seriously, I don't know why I thought I needed to clear the air because it was fine."

"That's good I'm glad. As I said I didn't want to step on any toes going back into intelligence." Erin said as she snuggled into Jays side. She was glad he didn't jump straight into the shower because she couldn't wait that long to be in his arms.
