Heya guys! Long time, no see.
I don't own Maid Sama! or any of its characters.
His heart had soared over the sky and into the boundless universe when he realized that she hadn't said anything against what Tamami had said.
Date. Date. Date.
Repetition of the word in his head did nothing to decrease the warmth spreading from his heart to the very tips of his fingers.
"Here."
He tried avoiding her eyes, which he knew would know be narrowed in a smirk. Instead, he took the dish from her hands and turned away, keen to get away before she started asking something.
"Did you ask her out?"
He stopped, and then rolled his eyes.
"Tamami, don't you think I'd try to get to know her first?"
"Yeah, just wanted to make sure you aren't getting ahead of yourself."
He turned back at that.
"What do you mean by that?" he said slowly, wondering where she was getting to.
"I mean, there's obviously something she desperately wants to hide, isn't there? I'm not necessarily saying that she wants to hide it from you, but….think about it. She balled her eyes out just now."
"I don't need you to tell me that."
"You don't have to take that tone with me, tiger. Just saying that even if it seems like she's opening up to you right now, that doesn't mean she'll be comfortable with telling you everything."
"I'm not saying I want to make her tell me everything, Tamami-"
"Yeah, but that doesn't mean it might not get your hopes up, right?"
Sighing, he turned away, and said, "Whatever."
He walked back to Misaki's table, shoulders slouched and mood dampened. He knew that Tamami was protective of him, but what if she was right? What if Misaki didn't want to tell him anything and pushed him away, keen to drop any topic related to what she said?
Of course, he couldn't say that they would definitely get together at some point.
But if they did, would she close up?
"Hey."
Misaki smiled up at him as he approached her table. But upon seeing his downcast expression, and the fact that he seemed to be avoiding her eyes, made the smile drop from her face.
"Anything wrong?"
"Oh, no."
He was definitely avoiding her eyes when he said that.
"Ooookay," she said, drawing out the first syllable on purpose, an eyebrow raised.
He still didn't respond, however, and chose to look down as he slid the tarts across the table.
"Your tarts, Ma'am."
His falsely cheery voice didn't fool her, though, so she kept her gaze trained on him.
When he realized that she hadn't touched her tarts and was staring at him, he looked up, a blank expression on his face.
"Anything, uh…..wrong?"
"I should be the one to ask you that."
He stared at her, uncomprehendingly, and opened his mouth; only to close it again, nonplussed.
"What?"
Both her eyebrows were raised by now, and her accusing gaze didn't waver from his blank one.
He finally opened his mouth again, and words seem to tumble out of his mouth.
"Uh, whadyathikuvme?"
It was certainly to be expected that she didn't expect this, as she stared at him, uncomprehending.
Their roles had reversed, and now he looked like he was accusing her of something.
He took a breath, before saying, "What do you think of me?"
"I….uh….."
She was obviously surprised by his question, but Takumi didn't notice this, as he seemed to take her lack of a good response a rejection.
Even more surprised of his slumped shoulders, she answered slowly, wondering whether she was giving the right response.
"Um…..well, I…we're friends, aren't we?"
At that, he looked up, an eyebrow cocked.
She continued, at the same slow pace, as if she were reassuring herself rather than him.
"I mean, we just introduced ourselves recently, and…."
He looked at her, unconsciously leaning forward.
"I…..like you, I guess?"
He blinked.
Noticing this, she hastily added, "As friends! I-I mean, I like you as a friend."
He blinked a few more times, rapidly, and then jerked his head a bit, as if he'd come to a conclusion.
The silence continued, slightly awkward, for a few moments, until they both let out sheepish grins.
Suddenly, Takumi's phone pinged, alerting him of the message he had just received.
He fumbled a bit with it as he took it from his pocket, and then frowned slightly, which then turned into a look of surprise.
And then he looked up at Misaki, who was now looking at him in an expression of mixed curiosity, bewilderment and concern.
Grinning from ear to ear, he said, "Do you wanna go on a date with me?"
*cue fangirl scream*
Lol, what's he playing at, asking her so early?
Please review guys!
