Erin was exhausted, frustrated and on the boarder of losing it. With the endless wedding planning and now this case she just wanted to curl up in bed and forget about it all for a second. Cases that involved young children only hit her more and more now that she had a child of her own. She could now understand what every parent she ever had to deal with felt and she wished and hoped that nothing like this would ever happen to her little girl and family.

Hank emerged from his office, "We still having nothing? It's been twelve hours!"

Atwater raised his hand, everyone looked at him with hope in their eyes, "The van was finally spotted, patrol are sitting on it now, we gotta roll."

"Okay suit up, we know this crew is reckless and will do anything to anybody that stands in their way. We do this safe and we get that little boy home to his family."

Everyone got up and started to hurry off down to the roll up, Hank grabbed Erin's arms before she could follow everyone else, "Erin maybe it's best you sit this one out, your too emotionally attached to this case."

Erin looked towards Hank with shock, "Trust me Hank I'm good, I want to get these bastards, whatever it takes."

"Just don't do anything stupid."

"You have my word," Erin paused while she was still getting a worried look off Hank, "Seriously Hank I'm good."

He nodded as they walked off together to join everyone else, Hank walked straight up to Jay, "Keep an eye on her, I know she doesn't want to admit it but she's taking this harder then she's letting on."

"Always Sarge, always." Jay nodded.

As they approached the van, not to their surprise it was empty, but they were told they went into the building it was parked in front on.

Halstead, Lindsay, Upton and Atwater went in from the front while the rest of them approached from the back, they all cleared each room one by one, the first suspect was caught in the kitchen, while the other one was still yet to be found.

Hailey and Erin started quietly walking up to the second floor, they checked each room and then stood at the end of the hallway where the last door was shut, Erin went to turn the door handle when shots started coming through the door.

"If you try that again I will kill this little boy!"

Erin gave Hailey a concerned look, "Matthew you have nowhere to go, just give us the boy and then we can all walk out of here alive."

"I'm dead either way." He spoked angrily.

Hailey started trying to peep through the bullet holes and she quickly got a glimpse of the position of the suspect, "Jay go into the adjacent room, five feet in and his about six foot."

"Copy." Jay said through the radio.

Erin nodded, all she had to do was keep him talking until Jay got to the spot, "Matthew let's talk this out, we have your entire team. It's over, they said you weren't the one in charge, so we can make a deal but you have to give us the boy alive."

"I can't. It's over, I'm done for."

Erin and Hailey could feel the stress and change in Matthews voice but they quickly got the signal that Jay was in his position and it was over in a second.

Erin quickly kicked the door in and pushed Matthews body off the little boy, thankfully he was unharmed but very scared.

"Hi Ben, I'm Erin it's okay now, your okay." She said soothing the boy as she carried him outside.

While the rest of the team stayed to clear the rest of the house and do what else needed to be done, Jay and Erin drove the little boy back to his family. Erin didn't once stop holding him, she knew he needed comfort and that's exactly what she was going to give him.

They got to the home and started walking up the steps, Ben was clinging to Erin like a little monkey even though he was five years old. Jay knocked on the door and as soon as it opened Bens parents faces said it all, they were relieved and so happy to see their son.

Jay and Erin left after getting many thankyous and hugs off the parents, but they soaked every bit of it up. This was the best outcome, to get a child back into the loving arms of his parents was all they wanted at the end of the day and today they succeeded.

That night after Jay finished in the shower he found Erin sitting next to Lily's cot, looking in to make sure she was safe and sound. She done this after every case involving a child, Jay just figured it was her way of coping.

"Come on babe let's go to bed." Jay said grabbing Erin's hand as she slowly got up, not saying a word.

They both walked into the bedroom and got into bed, Jay waited for Erin to get comfy and then snuggled in behind her, pulling her close into his chest.

"Jay, promise me that nothing like that will ever happen to Lily."

"Erin..."

Erin cut him off, "Promise me Jay."

Jay took a deep breath and squeezed Erin tightly, "I promise."

The next morning Jay was woken up by Lily climbing on top of him, pulling his cheeks and putting soft slobbery kisses on his face.

"Well good morning miss." Jay smiled, rubbing his eyes.

Erin quickly walked in, "There you are little monster, you learnt how to climb huh?"

Lily nodded and giggled, falling into her dads arms, "Crawling, walking and climbing, now just gotta wait for the attitude to kick in."

Erin laughed at Jays comment, "I think she already has enough of an attitude even though she isn't talking."

"Your not wrong," Jay smiled, "You good Er? I know yesterday was rough."

She nodded, "I'm good, it all worked out. It's just hard you know."

"I know. Especially now that we have this little one." Jay said kissing his daughters cheek, causing a little squeak.

Erin rubbed Lily's head, "Your not wrong."

"That's what I love most about you, even though you come across as a badass," Jay gasped and quickly covered Lily's ears, "Sorry," they both chuckled, "You have the biggest heart and you care so much."

"And sometimes you want me to care a little less." Erin raised an eyebrow.

"And sleep of course."

They both chuckled, "Oh yes that's right."

"Seriously Erin your amazing, not just at your job but being a mother and I can't wait to make you my wife because I know you will be amazing at that too."

"About that." Erin said and she noticed Jays face drop.

"What?"

"No no no, it's not what you think," Erin smiled once she saw Jay relax, "We have been planning this wedding for two months now and I can't take it anymore and is it really what we want?"

Jay thought for a moment, "I want what you want, you know that."

"Yeah I know but I know you and I know how you grew up, you want the whole church thing and a big ceremony..."

Jay cut Erin off, "Your letting Will get in your head to much, he cares more about that stuff then me. Babe I'd be happy if we got married outside with twenty people. At the end of the day it's just about the two of us and what we want."

"So you wouldn't mind if I say screw all the plans let's having a small ceremony and drinks at Molly's afterwards?"

"I wouldn't mind at all and you never know Hermann might even bring out his finest whiskey for the occasion." Jay smiled.

"Your amazing you know that."

"Oh yeah." He said as he leant in for a kiss.
