It was the morning of their big day, Jay was getting ready with the guys at Wills and Erin was at their apartment filled with hair dresses, makeup artists and her closet friends. She didn't want a fuss but of course having Burgess as her maid of honour that went out the window and of course Lily was loving all of this girly stuff.
"Mumma pwetty." Lily said as she tugged on Erin's robe, Erin was getting all dolled up and all Lily wanted to do was cuddle and be in her mothers arms.
"Thankyou baby." Erin said placing a kiss on Lily's forehead.
"Not long now Erin, how you feeling?" Hailey said passing a champagne to Erin, usually they were all beer drinkers but for this occasion why not change it up.
"Good, really good." She smiled.
"Well you look beautiful Erin, now that your hair and makeup is done it's time to get this little one ready." Kim said fussing over Lily.
"Go on munchkin, Aunty Kim will get you in your princess dress." Erin said excitedly to her daughter.
"Yay!" Lily clapped then walked off, all excited.
"So little brother how are the nerves?" Will said as he watched Jay fuss in the mirror.
"Nerves," Jay turned to his brother, "I don't have any nerves brother."
"As he adjusts his tie for the tenth time." Will chuckled.
"Okay maybe I'm a little nervous, I mean it's not everyday you marry the girl of your dreams."
"Turn around," Will said, his brother turned towards him and then Will started adjusting it, "You will be fine, I'm proud of you. Mum and dad would be proud."
"Thanks man." Jay smiled then they were interrupted by Adam, Kev and Antonio.
"Well don't you scrub up nicely, beer anyone?" Adam said as he held up a six pack.
"Yes." Jay said grabbing one straight away and chugging it quickly.
"Slow down bro, we want you standing at the alter not falling over." Antonio chuckled.
"He's just trying to calm his nerves." Will chuckled.
"Jay as soon as you see Erin walking down the aisle your nerves will go out the window, trust me." Antonio said.
"I have no doubt." Jay smiled as he just imagined it, he couldn't wait to call her his wife.
"Wow." All the girls said in sync as Erin's dress was done up and her veil was being adjusted, it wasn't long now.
"Do I look okay?" Erin said, standing there in a plain but beautiful lace, slim fitting gown.
"Erin Lindsay you look beautiful." A males voice said from the doorway, all the girls turned towards him and smiled, giving them a moment.
"Thanks Hank." Erin smiled.
Hank picked up Lily then walked towards Erin, "Jay is going to be speechless."
"Mumma pwetty." Lily said clapping.
"She is beautiful isn't she?" Hank said bouncing the little girl on his hip, "So are you princess."
"Yes look at her in her flower girl dress." Erin smiled, she had the perfect daughter no matter how much sass she had.
"So I have something for you, you don't have to wear it if you don't want but Camille wanted you to have it when this day came, you know she would be so proud of you." Hank said as he passed Erin a black box.
Erin smiled, trying to hold back tears as she opened the box revealing a beautiful diamond bracelet with light blue stones in it, "Hanks it's...it's beautiful."
"Here let me," Hank said as he put Lily down and took the bracelet out of the box to put on Erin's wrist, "Beautiful."
Erin started sniffling, "Hank I never asked I just assumed but will you, uhh...will you walk me down the aisle?"
It was Hanks turn to tear up, "I would be honoured."
Erin bought him in for a hug but of course it wasn't long before Lily was pulling on her dress, she wanted to be involved aswell, "Sorry little miss, I forgot that it's not all about me now is it?"
Hank chuckled and picked Lily up, "Come on cutie what do we say, time to get mummy married?"
Lily didn't understand much but she still got excited and clapped as Hank held onto both his girls.
There was a knock at the door, "Guys it's time, you ready?" Kim asked.
"Couldn't be more ready, let's do it." Erin smiled.
As they were all walking out of the apartment and down to the street were a limo was waiting Erin turned to Hank and Kim, "Guys who organised this?"
"Don't look at me." Kim said raising her hands.
"Hank." Erin looked towards Hank.
"Well you were having something small so I thought you may aswell get there in style." He shrugged.
"You shouldn't have," Erin shook her head then grabbed Lily from Hanks arms, "Come on pretty girl."
Jay stood at the alter with Will, Adam, Kevin and Antonio. He was hoping Mouse would be able to make it back but he understood when he couldn't. He had a lot of groomsmen for such a small wedding but he didn't care, he wanted all his friends to stand there with him.
Jay looked down, his hands were shaky and sweaty, "When did you say the nerves would go?"
"Don't worry Jay, it's going to be fine, your going to be fine." Antonio assured him.
Jay nodded then checked his pockets to make sure his vows were still in there, even though he had already checked multiple times and Will also had a copy just incase. He took a breath when he confirmed it was there, he then looked at his brother, "Got the rings?"
"Yes bro, take a deep breath here she comes." Will said nodding his head towards the limo that was pulling up.
Jay took one last deep breath, this was it. He looked around, only a small gathering, few close friends from firehouse 51, the hospital and of course the 21st. He smiled to himself, happy that this was finally happening.
Hailey was the first to step out, helping Lily out aswell, she put the little girl on her feet and hoped that she would do exactly what her parents had been teaching her, 'Run to daddy.' She wasn't far behind the excited toddler and as soon as Lily saw her daddy she smiled and started running towards him, Jay knelt down to greet her, everyone was in awe and you could defiantly hear it.
Once Lily was in Jays arms he quickly stood up and gave her a big hug, "Hey princess, you look so beautiful my girl."
"Hi daddy."
"Hi baby, now you gotta go sit with Aunty Nat okay?" Jay explained as he walked her over to Natalie. Thankfully she nodded and did as she was told, he sighed with relief she was actually doing very good for a toddler, for the moment anyway he thought to himself.
Once he was back in his position he watched as Kim got out, he looked towards Adam who had tears in his eyes, Jay gave Adam a nod once he knew he was looking at him, "Maybe your next Ruze."
"Yeah maybe." Adam shrugged.
Kim walked down the aisle and nodded to Jay as she took her position next to Hailey, now this was it, time to see his soon to be wife.
Everyone stood up as they saw Hank get out, holding his hand as Erin took it gracefully stepping out, once she was in full view that's when Jay believed Antonio, all his nerves were gone.
Everyone watched as she made her way up the aisle, she was holding tight on Hanks arm but she had the biggest smile on her face, she was just as happy as Jay was.
Once she was finally near Jay she let go of Hanks arm and bought him in for a hug, "I'm so proud of you kiddo." He whispered in her ear.
As they pulled apart Hank extended his hand for Jay to shake, "She's all yours now Halstead, Im just glad it was you. Your a great guy and father, I'm glad that your finally going to be apart of our family."
"Thanks Hank." Jay said as he nodded, Hank then took his seat.
Erin and Jay looked into each other's eyes, Jay whispered a quiet, "You look beautiful." Just before the celebrant started, Erin passed her flowers to Kim and took Jays hands into hers.
"Thankyou all for coming. We have all come here today to celebrate the love of Jay and Erin. Jay and Erin have chosen each and everyone of you to be here today and they are so happy to share this with the ones that are closest to them. They have known most of you for many years, whether it be by watching them evolve as partners into lovers or sitting back with a beer at their favourite bar. Because you are all the ones that supported them and know them so well it only made sense for all of you to be here today. When I first met these two I could tell they definitely had a lot of history both good and bad but as everyone of you know and I found out myself they are meant to be together. Jay and Erin have a strong bond that many people dream on finding, they're each other's best friends, partners and number one companions. They have come so far this last year and have overcome so much together. This ceremony is a symbol of the promises they make to each other as they continue to grow stronger as individuals and partners. No matter what challenges you face, you now face them together. No matter how much you succeed, you succeed together. The love between you joins you now as one and will be a day you will always remember."
The celebrant took a short pause as she continued, "We will now hear the words Jay and Erin want to hear the most today. The words that will unite them as husband and wife. Jay and Erin, look at one another and remember this moment in time as you declare your love for one another. Jay and Erin have prepared their own vows to read to one another."
Jay gentle let go of Erin's hands as he pulled the piece of paper of of his top pocket, unfolding it he cleared his voice, "Erin Lindsay, today I give myself to you without any hesitation. From the moment we met I knew you were the one, even though it took me nearly three years to get you, the first time anyway," the guests laughed, "You always seem to amaze me, whether it's beating me on the shooting range, doing something crazy at work, being an amazing mother to Lily or nearly burning the house down when all your trying to do is boil water," the guests yet again laughed, aswell as Erin who had tears forming in her eyes, "I know we have had our ups and downs but that's all the more reason I know without a doubt we can accomplish and get through anything. When I look at you all my worries go out the window, you have made my a better person, a better cop and you have given me the greatest gift, becoming a father. Erin I love your stubbornness, I love that you can't function in the morning unless you've had a shower and coffee, I love that no matter how bad of a day you have had you will always ask me how mine was, I love how much of an incredible mother you are to Lily, I love how much you make me smile and laugh and I just love you for being you and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you because I know that even if I have to ride shotgun for the rest of it and be your house husband, it will be one hell of a ride." Jay smiled, nearly choking at his words but thankfully he held it together, he noticed Erin had a few tears rolling down her cheeks, so he gentle wiped them away, then put the piece of paper back into his pocket.
It was now Erin's turn, the celebrant passed her, her vows, Erin took a deep breath then began, "Jay Halstead, I knew straight away that you were the one I was meant to spend the rest of my life with, I knew it in my heart and could see it in those beautiful green eyes of yours. No matter how much some people tried to keep us apart there was always something bringing us closer together and I'm glad eventually we got our one day. In you I have found a man the cherishes me and puts my happiness before his own everyday of his life. You truely are my soulmate and my whole world. I promise to honour you, challenge you and inspire you. From this day forward you don't have to face anything alone, I promise to be by your side in sickness and in health even if that means curling up on an uncomfortable hospital chair because they can't drag me out," everyone chuckled, she had done it before so he definitely believed that promise, "I promise to never forget all the memories we have shared, our first kiss, the first time I let you drive which ended up with you leaving the parking brake on and the 300 nearly ending up in a shop front," all the guests laughed as Jay face palmed himself, she would never let it go, "The first time we went to a Cubs game, the first time I told you I loved you and the very first time you held our daughter in your arms, that's when I knew that I would do anything to keep you by my side. And the biggest promise I can make is that I will never stop falling in love with you." Erin finished and quickly passed the paper back to the celebrant, now it was time for her to wipe Jays tears away.
They both took a deep breath as they took each other's hands again and waited for the celebrant to continue, "Jay, do you take Erin Lindsay to be your wedded wife, do you promise to love her, comfort her, honour and keep her in sickness and in health and to remain faithful to her for for as long as you both shall live?"
Jay smiled, "Hell yeah I do."
"Erin, do you take Jay Halstead to be your wedded husband, do you promise to love him, comfort him, honour and keep him in sickness and in health and to remain faithful to him for for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do." Erin said smiling.
The celebrant then nodded to Will as Will passed Erin and Jay each other's rings, "Jay take this ring, place it on Erin's finger and repeat after me," Jay nodded, "I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness to you."
"I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness to you." Jay repeated as he slid the ring on Erin's finger.
"Erin, take this ring, place it on Jays finer and repeat after me," Erin nodded, "I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness to you."
"I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness to you." Erin repeated as she slid the ring on Jays finger.
"Jay and Erin, always remember that a happy marriage is about three things. Memories of togetherness, forgiveness of mistakes and promises to never give up on each other. In marriage the little things are the big things. It is never being too old to hold hands, it is remembering to say I love you atleast once a day, it is never going to sleep angry, it is standing together and facing the world, it is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways. It is having the capacity to forgive and forget, it is giving each other the atmosphere to grow, it is not only marrying the right person but being the right partner. And so now by the power vested in me, it is my honour and delight to now pronounce you husband and wife. Jay you may now kiss your bride."
Jay grabbed Erin by the waist as they kissed, deeply and passionately as everyone cheered and clapped around them, once they parted the smiled at each other, finally they done it. They made it to the day they never thought would happen.
"Ladies and gentlemen it is my greatest honour to present to you Mr and Mrs Halstead." The celebrant said as the two walked down the aisle hand in hand, but of course a screaming toddler came chasing behind them she couldn't let them have the entire spotlight to themselves.
Jay lifted her up in his other arm, "What do you think princess, mummy is one of us now."
Erin nudged hun as she laughed, "Hey! I was always one of you guys."
"Now it's just official." Jay winked as they continued to walk off.
Later that evening everyone gathered at Molly's and it couldn't have been more perfect, they were so glad they chose this over some fancy place, that just wasn't them. As everyone was dancing and enjoying themselves Erin was stopped by Hermann as she came out of the bathroom, "Hey Erin sorry to bother you but there is someone at the door asking for you. Bunny I think she said her name was? No one seen her at the ceremony so we just thought she was a customer but she says she knows you."
Erin's eyes grew wider, seriously she hadn't heard from her mother in a month now of all the times she shows up on her wedding day, "Thanks Hermann I will sort it out."
Erin looked towards Jay who was drinking with the guys, she wasn't going to get him involved, yet anyway. Then she look towards the stroller in the corner that their babysitter was keeping a close eye on, thankfully Lily had hit they hay, was certainly a big day for the little princess.
She made her way outside, opening the doors to find her long lost mother, "Mum what are you doing here?"
"Erin, baby you look beautiful! I had no idea it was your wedding day, I wish I knew so I could be there." Bunny said as she admired her daughter.
"Mum you show up unannounced and then you disappear for a month, what the hell?"
"It's complicated Erin you wouldn't understand."
"I really don't want to do this right now, it's meant to be the best day of my life and I really don't want to be out here trying to sort whatever is going on with you out."
"I want to say hi to everyone, come on let me come in. I am your mother." Bunny said stepping closer but Erin took one step back.
"Don't do that. I gave you a chance a month ago to make amends, meet your granddaughter but you dropped off the face of the planet again. I gave up my job for you, I moved away for you, left my family and all you could do was throw it all back in my face. You couldn't let me be happy for more then a month before you ran off with what husband number eight?" Erin said annoyed.
"Please Erin don't do this, I'm sorry."
"Your not sorry that's just what you say to try get me to forgive you, not this time. I'm done with your games."
"Erin please I need help, please." Bunny said grabbing her daughters hand before she had a chance to get away.
"I don't believe you Bunny and after last time I'm not getting involved with your games."
"Please they said that because you got your job back in Chicago that I was going to go to prison, you had ruined your deal or whatever."
"Me ruin your deal? Seriously? Maybe if you didn't get yourself in such a big mess to begin with there would have never needed to be a deal!" Erin snapped.
"Come on baby, please help me."
"Not tonight."
"Okay well fine, but please when?"
"I will call you. Tell me one thing where have you been for a month? Are you using again? Husband number whatever got you on a tight leash?" Erin said annoyed.
Bunny stayed quiet then Erin noticed the bruising on her mothers arms, "Seriously when will you learn?"
"It's not what you think."
"Whatever look I don't want to hear it, I will call you in a couple days just let me enjoy this. Please."
"Okay. Okay, hunny you do look beautiful."
"Thanks," Erin said as she watched her mother walk away, "I guess." She whispered. Once she turned around she was startled by Hank.
"Jesus Christ Hank, trying to give me a heart attack?"
"I just want to know why one of the guest of honours is out here?" Hank said, knowing exactly what had just went down.
"I'm assuming you heard everything, that I don't need to repeat it all?" He nodded, "Is she serious? Would they actually be sending her to prison because I didn't keep up my end of the deal? Or is she making it up because of money or something?"
"Let me look into it?" Hank said bringing her into his side, "Go enjoy yourself, you shouldn't be worrying."
"Okay, thanks Hank. Also can you not mention anything to Jay? He will only worry more and I don't need him to unless it's completely necessary." Erin asked.
"Erin your about six hours into marriage you really want to start hiding secrets this early on?" Hank questioned but then got a annoyed look of Erin, "Fine but if I think he needs to know, I will tell him."
"Okay fine."
"Okay good, now let's get back to dancing."
Erin chuckled as he opened the door for her, "I never once thought I'd ever hear those words coming out of Hank Voight's mouth."
They both laughed as they walked off in different directions, Erin walked towards Jay who already had his arm out waiting for her to cuddle into his side, "Hey wife."
"Hi husband."
"Yo Lindsay! Wait Halstead, wait this is going to get confusing at work." Adam said confused, as everyone laughed.
"You can still call me Lindsay guys, having two Halstead's would get way too confusing." Erin laughed.
"Well for now Erin Halstead and Jay Halstead congrats again, who knew the loved up partners would get this far under Voight's thumb." Antonio said raising his glass, as did the small group of people around them.
"Yeah Jay you sure do have some balls." Kev joked.
"Mmhmm, he sure does." Erin said quietly but loud enough for Jay to hear.
"Maybe it's time we get out of here, I'm tired of sharing you with the riff raff." Jay whispered in his wife's ear.
"Yeah I think it's time we go home and make a baby." Erin said raising her eyebrow.
Jay stood back shocked and hoping he heard right, "Are you saying..."
"I'm ready Jay, let's try for another baby."
"God I love you."
"Yeah I guess I love you too." She chuckled as Jay kissed her.
