If sexually frustrated was a thing Jay had it. His daughter was the perfect example of a cockblock. No matter when she always seemed to need her parents at the very wrong time. Jay and Erin had been trying for a baby for the last couple months and unfortunately there was still no baby but of course they were still trying as much as possible but with a attention seeking toddler that didn't like nap time it became very tricky and entirely frustrating.
Jay sat at his desk and fiddled with god knows what because he couldn't focus on anything but sex and he had no idea why this was. Him and Erin had a lot of sex, but I guess when it constantly gets interrupted which leads to several cold showers you just want it to happen more and more because you can't get it so easily.
He jumped up out of his chair so quickly he accidentally pushed it over, gaining everyone's attention. He looked towards Erin who looked utterly confused of his sudden outburst. He didn't say anything but instead he walked into Hanks office and shut the door.
"Sure Halstead, come in." Hank said as he raised his head confused.
"Sarge do you think you could take Lil one night this week?" Jay asked, hands in a prayer gesture.
"I don't know why your pleading you know I love nights with my granddaughter."
"When suits you?"
Hank shrugged, "Whenever, you tell me."
"Give me a sec then," Jay said as he rushed over to Erin's desk, "When are you ovulating?"
"Excuse me?" Erin said shocked, "Keep your voice down," Jay stayed quiet waiting for an answer, Erin looked at her phone then back at him, "Thursday."
"Date night, you and me. Hanks taking Lily." Jay said as he started walking off.
"Jay I don't want to palm out daughter off because you want sex."
"I thought you wanted a baby? Hence why I'm asking that question because then it isn't just sex, you know kill two birds with one stone?"
"Wow how romantic." Erin said rolling her eyes.
"Come on you can't tell me your not just as frustrated and annoyed as I am. I see how you act around Kim." Jay said knowing how much that would annoy her but still he said it anyway.
Kim and Adam had just announced they were having a baby, of course everyone was happy for them. Even though Erin already knew which meant Jay knew they still acted surprised and happy for the two of them. But because Kim was pregnant and it happened accidentally Erin was of course frustrated and a little jealous but she would never admit that. She just couldn't understand how easy it was to fall pregnant when you don't actually want it to happen as opposed to it happening when you do.
"I'm fine Jay." She said bluntly and annoyed.
He slid onto the corner of her desk, "We will eventually have another baby Er, these things just take time."
"Yeah I know, just have to be patient."
"Exactly. So we good for Thursday?"
Erin tried to stay serious but I small chuckle escaped from her lips, "Sure thing you hormonal teenager."
Thursday night came around and Jay was beyond excited, not only to try once again for a baby but to have a little alone time with his wife.
They decided to go for dinner, so Jay had booked in at the purple pig, both their favourite. Then of course they would go home and 'Netflix and chill' but without the Netflix or chill part, Jay was just trying to find the polite way to put it.
Hank was picking Lily up and she was spending the night with him, this had only happened a handful of times but both Lily and Hank loved it, so Hank was of course trying to convince both Jay and Erin to do it more often.
Hank was standing in the lounge room with Jay and Lily while Erin grabbed Lily's things, "Now we are trying to ween her off her binky so only give it to her if she is super fussy trying to go to bed which today she has had a little bit of a cough so she probably will be."
"Sure thing," Hank said grabbing it and the other things out of Erin's hands, "Now make sure you enjoy yourselves tonight, me and this little one will be fine."
"Thanks Hank again, you have no idea how much we appreciate it," Jay said leaning down to pick his daughter up, "Love you princess."
"Wuv you daddy." She said, snuggling in to her fathers chest.
"My turn," Erin said grabbing her from Jay, "Behave little miss, mummy loves you," Erin said resting her cheek to her daughters head, "Hmm, she feels a little warm."
Jay reached his hand out, "A little, she probably just had a cough from daycare."
"Yeah your probably right, Hank there is baby Tylenol in there if she needs it but if it spikes ring us or ring Will."
"Got it covered kid."
"Okay, love you sweet girl." Erin gave Lily a kiss then passed her to Hank.
"See you guys, say bye Lily." Hank said.
"Bye bye." She said waving her hands at her parents as they left out the door.
Jay immediately grabbed Erin, slamming her into the wall, "Oh my god Jay!"
"We still have," Jay spoke as he trailed kisses down Erin's neck, "Twenty minutes," he kept stopping, "Until we need to leave for dinner."
She giggled and titled his head up, "Then take me to the bedroom."
He smiled into her lips as he kissed her, "My pleasure."
Two courses in, waiting for dessert and they were both ready to get the hell out of there. Although making a baby had to be quite organised, they were still making the most out of there alone time because these days they barely got that.
"Thankyou Jay." Erin said reaching over to grab his hand.
"For what?" Jay said stroking his thumb across her fingers.
"For being you. Making time for all of this, I know lately it's been a lot harder."
He chuckled, "Your not wrong, that daughter of ours sure has the worst timing."
"We still love her though."
"More then I ever thought possible." Erin smiled.
"We always need to start looking at houses, use that wedding present Hank so kindly gave us."
"We will get there Jay."
"You keep saying this, I don't know why your still pushing away the idea." Jay shrugged.
"Guess I'm just comfortable where we are now."
"Well me too, but it will be nice to have a bigger place and a backyard for Lil to play in."
"Okay then, next week we will look at some places?"
"Sounds good to me." Jay smiled.
As the waitress placed their desserts infront of them Jays phone starting vibrating, he frowned but grabbed it out of his pocket, looking down he noticed it was Hank, he looked towards Erin confused and answered,
"Hey Hank, what's up? Is Lily okay?"
"Hey Halstead, look I don't want to worry you but you said Lily had been coughing all day yeah?"
"Yeah?"
"Well she was getting a little worse and her temp went up a little so I gave her some Tylenol and cough medicine, she seemed fine for an hour but she just threw up."
"She's probably just a little unsettled or the cough medicine didn't agree with her."
"Jay there was a little bit of blood in it. I tried to ring Will but he's not answering."
"Uh okay, he's probably on shift. How much blood?"
"Fair bit, will I meet you at med? Best to get her checked out even if we are being abit over cautious."
"Meet you there."
Jay hung up and looked over to Erin who was already standing up from the chair, demanding answers, "Lily threw up and it had a little bit of blood in it, Hank can't get ahold of Will. He's on his way to med now, told him we'd meet him there."
"Oh my god Jay." Erin said worried.
"It's okay, she will be fine okay?" She nodded, "I will pay the bill and meet you in the car."
Erin rushed inside the emergency department, Jay close behind her, Maggie straight away pointed them to the room that Lily and Hank were in.
"Hey sweet girl." Erin said rushing to her daughters side picking her up to hug her.
"How is she?" Jay asked.
"The vomiting has stopped, we are just waiting on Will and Dr. Manning." Hank explained.
"Okay, okay." Jay said, trying not to worry.
There was a light tap on the door and Nat and Will both walked in, "Hey guys, sorry it took so long. How's my favourite niece going?"
"Will shes your only niece." Jay rolled his eyes.
"Yeah yeah. Now let's have a look," Will stated back as Natalie checked over he, for starters he wasn't allowed to be her doctor because she was family and also Natalie was a paediatrician, "Now did this just come on?"
"Yeah, the vomiting has. She has been coughing a little all day though." Erin explained.
"Any other symptoms?" Natalie asked.
"A little more sleepy then usual maybe? She hasn't been off colour until now either." Erin said trying to hide the worry in her voice.
"Okay well let's run some tests and we will go from there." Natalie said as she smiled and left the room.
"If she's anything like her mum and dad she has nothing to worry about." Will smiled and followed Natalie out.
The next morning the entire unit was seated in the waiting room waiting for answers and to be there for Jay and Erin. They hadn't seen them all night but from what Hank explained it didn't seem good. She was one sick little girl.
Erin and Jay walked into the waiting room, everyone could tell Erin had been crying and Jays eyes were bloodshot holding tears back, trying to be the strong one.
Jay wrapped his arm around Erin's waist, she stood there numb, "Um, so uh," Jay said stuttering, "The situation is, Lily is going to have to stay in the ICU, her liver isn't working as well as it should."
"It's uh, 80% loss of function." Erin said.
"What are they suggesting?" Hank said walking closer.
"A liver transplant, there is the possibility of a living donor. You can take a section of an adult liver and transplant it into a child." Jay explained as Will entered into the waiting room.
"Okay so on of us can donate?" Kim asked.
"Lily's blood type is O. Erin and I are both B." Jay shrugged.
"I'm O, I could donate." Kim said.
"Kim your also pregnant." Adam said holding his hand up.
"You know what, it's going to be fine. It will all work out, we are going to go work the phones, speak to the transplant people, contact family and friends. It will be fine." Erin nodded.
"Yeah guys, thanks for checking in but don't feel like you have to stay." Jay said forcing a smile.
"We aren't going anywhere." Kevin said squeezing Jays shoulder.
"Thanks guys," They both nodded to everyone, "We're going to head back in."
"We will all get on the phones too." Hank said giving Erin a quick hug, but all she could do was just stand there lifelessly. Was this really happening.
"Thanks Hank." Erin nodded and left the room, Jay forced a smile and followed her in.
Couple hours later, Jay was standing infront of Lily's cot, Hank was next to him while Erin was talking to doctors.
"Why do I have a different blood type," Jay sighed, "It's wrong. I helped make her, so we should match. But we don't."
"She will get through this Jay." Hank said hopeful.
"I really want to believe that Hank, but seeing her this sick...ah makes it harder to believe I guess."
"I know."
"Look I'm going to go make some more phone calls, can you just stay with her?" Jay said as he prevented himself from crying.
"I'm not going anywhere."
Erin was sitting in the cafeteria blankly when she was startled by Kim who suddenly sat down next to her.
"I'm going to donate."
"No Kim, no." Erin started shaking her head.
"I have done research I have talked to everyone, it's possible."
"Kim I can't let you do this, your pregnant."
"But I can't let anything happened to Lily, I love her like she's my own. We all do."
"I know Kim, but I just can't let you do it. We will find someone else. But thankyou." Erin smiled squeezing her hand.
"Erin." A familiar voice said from behind them.
Erin spin around shocked, "Mum?"
"Hank called, he explained everything. I'm so sorry baby." Bunny said walking towards her daughter.
"Uh thanks. But it's okay really. Well it's going to be." Erin nodded.
"It is going to be because I'm going to donate, I'm the same blood type."
"What?"
"Exactly what I said. Let me do this for you and your family Erin. Make up for all the hurt I have caused you."
"Bunny you can't bribe me with saving my daughter." Erin scoffed.
"I didn't mean it like that. Sorry. It's just I want to be able to do this for you, for Lily." Bunny smiled.
"Is your liver even going to be fine? You haven't exactly had a good track record."
"I got tests before I came and found you, just gotta wait."
"Okay, let's go upstairs then. Fill Jay in." Erin and Kim got up, Kim walked infront of them so they could have a private conversation.
"Are you sure?" Erin asked.
"I'm sure."
"Thankyou." Erin said softly.
"Jay," Erin said as she walked towards Jay who was leaning over Lily's cot, "I love you."
"I love you too Er. This is just so unfair."
"I know babe but we may have a little hope."
Jay turned to face her, "What do you mean? Kim can't donate, we can't let her and she's the only one with the same blood type."
"It's not Kim. It's Bunny."
"No."
"Babe we don't have another option."
"After all she has done in her life her liver probably isn't even viable. Also the fact that she would use this to her advantage to be in our lives."
Erin shrugged, "Who cares. I'd rather that then losing Lily."
Jay stayed silent for a minute, "Okay then. Let's just wait and see."
