Wolves & Vampires
A/N: I know I know. I have stories that I haven't finished but I hit a massive writer's block on them. Hopefully I will be able to get back to them soon. I've been on a massive Twilight kick here lately. I've been rewatching the movies over and over and I've been reading tons of Twilight stories. They've mostly been non-canon pairing, especially wolf and Bella pairings. I was reading some stories from one of my favorite authors Half of my Soul. She has two stories that I highly recommend if you haven't read them. They are both collections of one shots. One is wolf centric and the other is vampire centric. Half of my Soul has inspired me to write my own collection of one shots. Welcome to Wolves and Vampires. If you have any ideas of one shots you might like to see feel free to PM me with your suggestions. As always don't forget to Read, Review and Favorite.
It Was Always You
Bella POV
You know how people say that love happens when you least expect it? Well, it's definitely true. After Edward broke up with me and left, I never thought that I'd fall in love again. Things were hard after Edward left and it took me some time to get back to feeling like myself…Jake was a part of it, but really, I owe the biggest credit to the love of my life…my imprint. I should start at the beginning of my story but that would take forever. So instead, I'll start where things really started to get interesting….
After I found out that Jake and his friends were wolves, I started spending more time down at La Push. When they found out that I was the one that Victoria was after Sam said that they'd be able to protect me better the more that I was in La Push, but really, I just liked hanging out with them all. While the guys would be out patrolling, I spent most of my time with Emily unless I was over at Jake's cooking and cleaning for Billy. That's how it was for months. Then one day everything changed.
I'd been over at Jake's cooking a bunch of meals to freeze for Billy when Jake bust in through the front door. I turned to look at him (as did Billy) but he just stood in the door to the kitchen just staring at me. "Jake? What's wrong?" I asked him.
Finally, he let out a sigh. "The stupid idiot imprinted when it should have been me." Jake said.
I looked at Jake confused. "What are you talking about?" I asked him, leaning against the kitchen counter.
Jake sighed again. He rubbed his hand over his face. "You should go down to the beach… where we first talked about the legends." Jake said. I nodded understanding. I threw my jacket on and walked out the door and headed down to the beach.
I wasn't sure what imprinting was, but I had a feeling that it was the equivalent to vampire mating. By the look on Jake's face when he'd walked in the door, talking about imprinting I had a feeling that he was hoping that he'd imprinted on me. But obviously he hadn't not only by what he'd said but by the fact that he was sending me down to the beach to where I'm assuming my wolf was waiting for me. As I walked toward the beach I tried to think about which wolf it was. There weren't many wolves in the pack at the moment, and I knew that Sam was with Emily and that Jared was with Kim. Jake clearly hadn't imprinted on me so that left Embry and Paul. Paul…part of me hoped that it wasn't Paul mainly because of the fact that he had a temper but at the same time I knew that Paul would protect me. It wasn't exactly a secret that Paul and I didn't get along. He had this habit of calling me leech-lover (from my time spent with the Cullens) and he never let himself be alone with me. I think that he was afraid of saying the wrong thing. Then there was Embry… He was totally sweet. We'd met back before they all phased and we all hung out in Jake's garage. When a wolf had to be on Bella-watch it was usually Jake or Embry that volunteered. I knew that Jake volunteered because he was in love with me. I thought that maybe Embry volunteered because we were friends but now I was wondering if it was because he'd imprinted on me.
When I got to the spot on the beach that Jake had told me to go to, I noticed one of the guys standing there. That wasn't uncommon, the part that shocked me the most though was who was standing there. As I approached him, he turned around clearly hearing me approach him. "You imprinted on me?" I asked.
He nodded. "How much do you know about imprinting?" He asked me.
"Nothing. Although I have an idea of what it might be. This is why Jake was upset?" I said.
He nodded again. "Yeah. He's not exactly happy with me at the moment." He said.
I crossed my arms over my chest even though part of me wanted to run up and hug him. "Is it because of the imprint or because you almost attacked me." I said, giving him a small smile.
He laughed and held his hand out for me. "I think that it's a little bit of both. I am sorry about that day though." He said.
"Well I shouldn't have slapped you." I took his hand and he pulled me to him, wrapping his arms around me. "So tell me about imprinting." I said, looking up at him.
"Basically, it's the spirits way of leading us wolves to our soul mate. When we look into our soul mate's eyes for the first time after we phase, it's like nothing else matters. Gravity doesn't hold us to the earth anymore, our soul mate does." Paul said.
"But Paul that was -" I started to say but he cut me off.
"I know. I'm sorry. I kept trying to wrap my head around it." He said, letting me go and taking a couple of steps back. "I kept trying to figure out why the spirits would think that the one girl that used to run with Vampires would be the perfect match for me." He said looking down at the ground. I knew that he was feeling bad about the nickname that he'd given me when we'd first met. But if I was honest I was asking myself a similar question, but when I thought about it I'd answered it myself earlier on my way here.
I looked out to the ocean. "Do you regret imprinting on me?" I asked quietly.
My question must have shocked Paul because when I looked back at him, he was staring at me. He reached me quickly, pulling me into his arms. "Bella, no." He said. "That's why it's taken me so long to admit all of this to you. I realized after talking to Sam about it that the spirits must have realized that you're a danger magnet and that only a strong wolf could protect you." Paul said.
I looked down at the ground. "So it's because the spirits think that I'm weak." I said quietly.
Paul lifted my chin up so that I was looking at him. "No. You are not weak. You are strong. Do you understand me?" He asked me and I nodded.
I wasn't sure what happened… I don't know if it was the fact that he said that I was strong or if it was the imprint at work but I found myself leaning up on my tip toes and kissing him. I wasn't sure how long we kissed for but when I pulled back all I could say was "wow."
Paul smiled at me. He leaned his forehead against mine. "Bella, there's something else that I need to mention." Paul said as we both lifted our heads.
"What is it?" I asked.
"The marking." He said and I looked at him confused. "The marking is a bite mark that I'll give you and it will mix my scent with your scent. It will basically tell any supernatural creature that you are mated to a wolf. And not just any wolf…my wolf." Paul said. I nodded. "In addition to the scent, I would also be able to feel your emotions and I would know when you're in danger. With you being a danger magnet, I'd like to mark as soon as possible." Paul told me.
I needed to think about it. I wasn't sure how I felt about the marking. I thought that maybe I could talk to Emily about it. "Can I think about it?" I asked him.
Paul kissed my forehead. "Of course." He said.
Over the next few weeks, Paul and I spent a lot of time together getting to know each other. I had also talked to Emily and Kim both about the marking. I wanted to make sure that I had all the information before I gave Paul my answer. I'd even introduced Paul to Charlie as my boyfriend. I mean, I couldn't exactly tell Charlie that Paul was a wolf and that we were soul mates, so this was the best that I could come up with.
About a month after I'd found out about the imprint and the marking, I was down at Billy and Jake's cleaning and cooking when Jake and Paul came in. Jake walked in and hugged me and Paul had kissed my temple. I turned around leaning against the counter and looked at Paul. "Okay." I said, looking up at him.
"Okay?" He asked confused and I nodded. And then it was like a light bulb went off. "Oh! Okay, so when?" Paul asked me.
"Maybe when I get done here?" I asked him.
"Yeah, sure." Paul said. Something was off. I looked over at Jake, he was looking down at the floor.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
Paul rubbed a hand over his face. "Embry and Quil picked up a scent earlier. A familiar scent." Paul said.
I felt my heart start pounding in my chest. There were only two reasons that the pack would find a familiar scent. It was either Victoria or a Cullen. "Who…is…it?" I stuttered.
I guess Paul could see my panic because he quickly pulled me into his arms. He kissed the top of my head. "Hey…it's okay. Everything is going to be okay." Paul whispered into my ear.
I nodded against his chest. Once I'd calmed down I pulled away from Paul. "Who's scent?" I asked.
"The pixie." He said.
I sighed and nodded. "Where was her scent?" I asked. I knew that if her scent was near my house then she was looking for me. But if it was near their house then maybe she was just passing through. When neither Paul or Jake said anything after a few minutes I knew that Alice's scent was near my house. And that meant that she not only was looking for me but she wanted to see me. "Mark me." I said. It wasn't a question, it was a statement.
"Bell…are you sure?" Paul asked me.
I nodded. "I am. She's gonna wanna see me. But I don't wanna go and risk her trying to dazzle me." I told them. "So I need you to mark me before I go to my house and try and get her to leave Forks." I said.
Paul sighed. I knew that he wanted to protest but at the same time he knew that I was right. "There's no way I can talk you out of this is there?" He asked me.
I grabbed his hand and pulled him to me. I leaned up and gently kissed Paul. "Nobody is taking me away from you. Do you hear me?" I said.
Paul cradled my face in his hands and leaned down to kiss me. "You ready?" He asked me when he pulled back. I nodded and pulled my hair to one side to give him better access to the area between my neck and my collarbone. He leaned down and kissed me again before moving to my neck. I heard him inhale my singular scent one last time before I felt his teeth in my neck causing me to grip his arms tight. Not long after he bit into my neck the pain subsided and I felt him kiss the spot that he'd just bit. When he pulled back he cradled my face again. "You know that she's not going to be happy right?" He asked me.
"I know, but it's not her choice. I belong with you." I told him.
"I don't want you going alone. I'll go with you." Paul said and I nodded.
When Paul and I pulled up and my house, I could see Carlisle's car parked down the road a bit. We climbed out of my truck and made our way inside. I wasn't sure where Alice was hiding but I knew that she was nearby. Thankfully, Charlie wasn't home. He was out fishing with Billy and Harry. "Alice. I know you're here." I said with Paul closely behind.
Alice stepped out of the living room and into the little hallway where Paul and I stood. "Bella. I'm so happy to see you." Alice said, not noticing Paul at first. Paul stepped closer to me and wrapped an arm around my waist pulling me against his chest.
"What are you doing here Alice?" I asked her, my face void of any emotions.
Alice sighed. "I couldn't see your future anymore. You just disappeared." Alice said.
"Why were you looking into my future?" I asked her.
She leaned against the doorframe. "Can we talk without the mutt?" She asked. I shook my head. "Okay fine. After we left, Edward told me not to look into your future, but obviously some things I can't help. I got so used to automatically seeing your future that it would just happen. Well, about a couple of months ago, I had a vision of Victoria tracking you. I mentioned it to Edward and he told me not to worry because while Victoria was tracking you, he was tracking Victoria." Alice said.
I rolled my eyes. I knew that Edward didn't care but was he really that heartless? "Is there a point Alice?" I asked her.
"Your future disappeared." She said.
"Yeah well there's a reason for that." I said. She stared at me waiting for me to continue. I felt Paul's arm tighten on me. "I'm mated to a wolf. This wolf." I said.
Alice rolled her eyes. "I see." It was in that moment that I noticed Alice's eyes. They were glazed over. She was having a vision.
"What's she doing?" Paul whispered in my ear.
"She's having a vision." I told him. And just as quick as her vision started it ended. "What did you see?" I asked her, leaning back against Paul.
"Edward…Rosalie told him about why I was coming here. So he assumed that you were dead. He's going to the Volturi." Alice said.
"Who's the Volturi?" Paul asked.
"Vampire Royalty." I told him. "According to Edward, they're the ones that make sure that the secrecy of vampires stays that way… a secret. He once told me that if a vampire truly wanted to die that's where they would go." I told Paul, turning in his arms to look at him.
"So what? Just because he thinks that your dead, he's going to go see the Vampire Royalty and ask them to kill him? Sounds kind of morbid to me." Paul said.
"Bella, you have to come with me." Alice said.
I rolled my eyes and then turned to face her. "Come with you where?" I asked her.
"To Volterra. We have to save Edward." Alice said.
I raised an eyebrow at her. "Alice, I don't have to do anything. Edward left me." I said, causing Paul to drop his arm knowing that I was getting angry. "Not only did he leave me, but he left me alone in the woods. It was hours before Paul and Sam found me. Sam had to carry me back to my house because I couldn't walk. Alice, I almost froze to death." I started to yell at her. "You and the others left without saying goodbye. So please tell me why I should do anything for Edward!" I said, throwing my hands up in the air.
I suddenly felt Paul's hands on my shoulders trying to calm me down. For once in the entire time that I had known Alice she had an icy stare in her eyes. "So, you won't come?" She coldly asked me.
I shook my head. "No. I won't." I said. I slowly stepped toward her until I could touch her shoulder. "Alice, it's taken me a while to realize but I don't belong with Edward or your family. I know my place now. It's with Paul and the rest of the wolves and imprints. I will always cherish the memories that I have of Edward and the rest of the family but it's not who I am anymore." I told Alice. I just hope that she understood.
After a few minutes of silence, she nodded. "I get it Bella. You gotta follow your heart." She said placing a hand on my shoulder. "I hope that you get everything that you want." Alice said before she dashed out of the house, no doubt on her way to Italy.
I stood there and let out a breath that I hadn't realized that I was holding. "You okay?" I heard Paul ask me.
I turned around to face him. I smiled at him. "Yeah, I'm okay. It's a chapter of my life that is finally closed." I said.
He walked over to me and wrapped his arms around my waist. "Have I ever told you that you look hot when you get angry?" He asked me and I couldn't help but laugh.
10 years later…
It's been 10 years since Paul told me about our imprint. After the confrontation with Alice that day, our relationship moved rather quickly. The day before Graduation I told Charlie that I was moving in with Paul. He had been completely blind-sided. He obviously felt that we were moving too fast considering that it had only been six months since Edward had broken up with me and left town with the rest of his family. To the best of our knowledge the Cullen's never moved back to Forks.
We all had our good moments but we had our bad too. The same day that Alice had come to visit, Harry Clearwater had a heart attack while fishing with Charlie and Billy. Harry died that day. Charlie, Billy and Sue were heartbroken. The crazy thing about that day was that Harry's death caused Seth and Leah to phase for the first time. It definitely ended up being an emotional day. When Paul and I arrived at Sam's house, Emily was locked in their bedroom crying, Seth was sitting on the front porch with Jared and Embry, Leah was in the woods with Sam and Jacob growling at him because she didn't want anything to do with him or Emily. Despite Paul's hesitance it took me and Jacob to get Leah calm enough for her to phase back. The funny part was when she phased back to her human form… her and Jake imprinted on each other. It was incredible to watch. I walked out of the woods laughing. All the guys just looked at me confused.
Leah refused to eat at Sam's, therefore she and Jake mostly ate at his house… at least until I moved in with Paul, then they ate at our house. With Leah becoming the first and only female in the pack, she and I became fast friends. I guess because of that, it wasn't that much of a shock when Sue and Charlie announced that they were getting married and having a baby. The day that Sue went into labor, Jake proposed to Leah right there in the hospital waiting room as soon as Charlie announced that we had a new sister. It was incredible.
Paul and I never did marry. Neither of us liked the idea of marriage. We both felt that it was slightly archaic that two people needed to be married in order to share their lives, especially if they wanted to have a family. It didn't matter to us, because in the eyes of the tribe (due to our imprint) we were already married. Billy had once told Paul and I that I was listed in the archives as Bella Lahote. Paul's wolf was giddy about that. 3 years ago, Paul and I had our first child. Aiyanna Izabella Lahote. She was perfect. She's a complete daddy's girl. On top of that I recently found out that I'm pregnant with our second child. I can't wait to tell Paul.
I stood in Aiyanna's doorway watching her sleep when I felt arms wrap around my waist and Paul's head rest on my shoulder. "What ya thinking so hard about?" He asked me.
"Everything that we've been through." I said quietly.
"It's definitely been a road." He said, as we made our way down the hall to our bedroom.
I stopped in our doorway and watched him walk over to the bed and sit down. "I need to tell you something." I said causing him to look up at me. "I think that we've done well with Aiyanna."
"I think so too." He said, pulling his shirt off.
"How would you feel about another one?" I asked him.
He got this big smile on his face. "I thought you were on the pill." He said.
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, try telling that to your wolf."
"My wolf is ecstatic." Paul said, walking over to me and picking me up.
