When Quinn rang the doorbell, she had expected Rachel but to her surprise it was Eliza who answered less than impressed by her presence. It was going to be a rocky road to overcome the divide between them.

"Mums working, she said I have to spend at least an hour with you. Its 4.45 so you have till 6." She says walking away and leaving Quinn in the doorway.

"Here I bought you some ice cream." Quinn tries and sees a slither of openness as she follows Eliza to the living room.

"Thanks, I like this one." Eliza responds and Quinn breathes finally at least she got something right if she was going to do this, she had to do it well.

"I do to, I took a guess." Quinn follows Eliza to the sofa and sits opposite her.

"So, what do we do?" Eliza asks her hoping she has an idea. Eliza herself had gotten dressed 3 times for this evening, Rachel had laughed each time she changed her top. Knowing Quinn would be too nervous to even notice what she wore.

"I don't know to be honest Eliza I have never met my long-lost child before" she jokes and sees Eliza laugh.

"Well, I've never met my long-lost mum either." There's an awkward silence that spans a few minutes before Quinn sits up straight and begins.

"Why don't we play a game two truths and a lie." Quinn watches as Eliza analyses how this could go, she sees the young girls lip move to the side contemplative.

"Okay, but you first" Eliza says hoping it will make it less awkward and so the hour will pass by faster. She knows she has to spend time with Quinn, and she wants to, but she also knows this is short lived Quinn doesn't live here and has a whole other life without her.

"I have a husky named Hugh, I have 2 houses one in LA and one in NYC. I work in tech."

"Erm Hugh is a weird dog name. I think you have 2 houses you look rich as shit." Quinn raises an eyebrow at the language and can't help but interrupt.

"Language." She chides and Eliza shakes her head at her.

Eliza rolls her eyes at Quinn, before answering "the dogs a lie" she says calling her lie out.

"Your right his name is Hester." Quinn responds and she sees her daughter frown one she had seen many times before because that line the one right between her brow that was something Quinn herself had.

"For real?" she asks.

"Yeah here" she says passing her the phone with a picture.

"Nice okay my turn. I am the number one striker in school's history, I currently am dating two guys, I don't trust you." She smirks at the last comment and Quinn shakes her head. She knew Eliza would push her, she knew Eliza would try to cause her to be annoyed.

"Well, I know you don't trust me. It's fair I'm a stranger but I'd like to be more one day to you. I hold the record at our old high school. My scoring record is unreal, if you beat that I'm amazed. Which leads me to 2 boyfriends I would hope these are all lies. I'm going to say you don't have 2 boyfriends and that is a lie."

"Yeah, it is. Which means I have beat your record." She responds arrogantly.

"Well done. That's huge. I'm glad you kept it in the family in another 20 years your kids will have to beat you" Quinn adds smiling proudly. "I would love to see you play one day." She says hoping that's an option, hoping her daughter would even want her there.

"I have a game this weekend. You could come." The invite is there and not one that Quinn would receive everyday she knows she's lucky to be invited and that this may be her only chance if Eliza really was like her. If she was more like Rachel, she would give her many chances, but she didn't know yet.

"I'm due back in New York Saturday" Quinn answers honestly, she didn't want to get her hopes up and she certainly didn't want to give lie to her daughter.

"Right. Course. Mum said you were here for business." Eliza adds knowing that her time with Quinn was always going to be short on this trip. Rachel had told her to use it wisely.

"Do you want me to stay longer?" Quinn asks, it's an unfair question but she needed to know if this was a mountain to climb or if Eliza really did want to know her.

Eliza paused for a moment. "I think your either all in or all out. You either want to know me or you don't."

"Of course, I do. You are the most important thing to me Eliza. I want nothing more than to spend time with you." Quinn clarifies and Eliza shrugs.

"Then stay longer." She challenges Quinn and Quinn knows exactly what happened she got played in 10 seconds by a younger Rachel Berry. That was a brilliant lesson in guilt and manipulation because she was no closer to knowing if Eliza wanted her here, but she had been guilted into admitting Eliza should come before herself.

"Okay" Quinn says breaking a little her daughter had called her out and even though the way she acted was sly she was right. "I'll call work and take some time off." Eliza smiles and Quinn knows in that moment that she would do anything to keep her smiling. She had missed so much. Work could wait. They sat and spoke for hours about random things and learnt little by little about each other. Eliza saw where she got her smile from and where she got her odd habit or clicking her neck from. Some things genetics couldn't help but give you. It had been 2 days when Quinn asked what she had wondered each evening that she came over.

"Where's your mum?" she asked.

"In her office, she doesn't want to see you." Eliza says almost too honestly. The honesty hits Quinn like cold water to the face.

"What?" Quinn asks wondering how she would know that.

"She doesn't want to see you."

"Why do you know that?" She asks more plainly its blunt and harsh, so she smiles softer to soften the blow. If Rachel was bad mouthing her to Eliza this needed to be discussed it's not right.

"Cos my mum is like my second favourite person in this world after my best friend. I know her. She may say she has work but I know she is avoiding you. She won't even answer the door."

"Do you know why?" Quinn asks trying to assess how much she knows.

"No, she won't say, just that unless its urgent don't call her. Because she's working. She's working a lot more than usual." She says rolling her eyes at the blatant lie.

"Your upset about that?"

"Yeah, I'd like you both to be on good terms." Eliza admits biting her nail and looking at the floor.

"I'll try" Quinn smiles, and Eliza looks at her surprised. Quinn finishes their chat and when it's time to leave stands to walk upstairs.

"Thank you" Quinn hears as she walks upstairs. She takes a breath and knocks on the office door. "Yeah come in."

"Hey" she says opening the door. Rachel looks up and sighs taking off her glasses she sets them down on the table as she looks at Quinn.

"I'm working sweet… Quinn sorry is something wrong?" she asks and Quinn leans on the desk.

"Eliza said you are working a lot."

"Yes, I'm a lawyer were busy people." Rachel states ending the conversation, but Quinn doesn't quit.

"Every evening does our daughter spend any time with you ever?"

"Please do not question my parenting. Eliza and I have a great relationship. She is happy and healthy" she says looking back to her work.

"Well Eliza wanted me to sort things between us. She knows something is wrong."

"She's smart but there is nothing to sort. You made your position crystal clear Quinn. You want nothing to do with me. So, we will parent separately and when it comes to decisions about our daughter's life we can talk. Otherwise, it's like a baton in a relay race we don't have to talk. I'll talk to Eliza about why we aren't co-parenting."

"I'd like to be there for that." Quinn states bluntly her tone is the same as yesterday.

"Why?" Rachel asks finally looking up again frustrated.

"Because you would probably make me out to be the bad guy, it wouldn't be the first time. Would it?" the smile is one which runs cold, the whole room becomes icy and Rachel just nods.

"Okay Quinn" she says calmly not rising to the bait so clearly put out.

"Great thanks. I'm heading out."

"Okay have a nice evening." She says not looking up. Just as Quinn is about to leave, she stops.

"You have no right to sit there looking upset Rachel. You have no right to act hard done by or like I'm the one hurting you right now."

"Excuse me. I didn't even."

Quinn cuts her down interrupting her before she can even start. "You have no right to sit there like you done nothing wrong. You don't get to be angry at me, no I get to be angry. Angry that you gave me no choice that I now have a kid who I have to care for, who I need to get to know, who barely knows me but is my double, I have to explain to my family this fucking mess and beg them to understand it. You know who I am, you know my job and how public I am how do I explain a mysterious kid. Oh, FYI here's the kid I left behind from my sham of a marriage to a fucking psycho. We are joint parenting but really, I'd rather send her mother to prison, but my own daughter is deluded into thinking her mums a good person and she wouldn't forgive me if I did that so can't. You don't get to sit up here and cause me and Eliza to have a rift between us because she is worried about how you feel. Your feelings don't matter Rachel. So quit being so selfish."

"Selfish me. You have got to be kidding me. I each evening hide in one room in my house because you can't stand to be around me. You ran away to live your dream leaving me to deal with the fallout. Our child died and instead of holding me you ran away. You never once looked back. Not because you were sad but because you were scared to deal with consequences of leaving your wife. You were the bad guy, you left me. Yes, I shouldn't have had Eliza without your permission, but I don't regret it for a moment. I have a beautiful daughter who is wonderful and who makes everyone in her life happier."

"You don't regret it. Are you insane look at us. This is a disaster. I escaped you. Thank God I did because God knows how many secret kids we could have running around if I left more eggs. Hell, I'm surprised there are not more. I didn't want this. Do you think this is my dream? It's a nightmare and you've fucked everything for me. I'm going to have to move here. My career is screwed. You're so lucky I haven't spoken to my lawyers because I'm sure if I really wanted to, I could take her, and you'd never see her again. If she was younger, I would."

The doorway creaks and Eliza stands stunned looking between the two. Rachel stands and Quinn freezes. Quinn has ruined it she knows from her daughter's expression. Its over there is no going back from this.

"Eliza" Quinn starts but doesn't get very far.

"Don't please get out. I don't want you in my life now or ever. Go home I don't need you." Eliza says and she has every right to feel this way Quinn had unloaded things no child should hear.

"Eliza I" there was nothing Quinn could say there was no fixing this, her words were that of a bitter angry woman not a mother.

"No leave. I'm an inconvenience and you hate my mum. We don't need you. We were fine. I never wanted to meet you and even knowing the truth I don't care. You've made it clear you don't want us in your life."

"Eliza of course I want you." Quinn argues, that was never what she meant.

"It's both or none. Since you hate my mum and never wanted me, I'm making this easier. I don't want you in my life. Goodbye Quinn. Go back to your career and perfect life in America. Go back to Hester your work family."

"Eliza, I didn't mean" Quinn tries but to no avail.

"Too bad goodbye" she says walking away. The silence is deafening as both mothers stand in the office unmoved. Rachel is the first to move she sits down sighing.

"You should go. Come back tomorrow I'll calm her down and work this out with her. How long are you here for?" she asks pouring herself a drink.

"What?" Quinn says confused she knew she didn't deserve this from Rachel but that's Rachel for you she is kind and forgiving and she usually does what's right. Quinn looks at her not taking in what she is saying at all.

"How long are you staying here?"

"I'm going to stay for another 2 weeks. I told my boss I need to take some personal time. Earlier by text" he said it's fine.

"Okay erm well its Friday tomorrow so she stays at her best friend's house Peyton. But she will be here to spend an hour with you as agreed earlier this week." Quinn looks at Rachel shocked. She was calm and unwavering in her response. As if they hadn't argued at all. As if Quinn had not just stomped all over Rachels heart.

"She won't see me." Quinn replies.

"Don't worry about that she will see you. She may want me in the room for the next few days, but I'll try not to be. I recognize our toxic relationship cannot hurt her and should not be an issue for you and your daughter." Rachel responds downing the drink after she spoke.

"Why are you being so kind?"

"I've never been mean. I have fucked up, made mistakes sure. But she is our daughter. You have always been a hot head and you've always said things you don't mean. I know the difference between what you mean and don't in arguments, she doesn't. You hate me, I know that now, but you love her I can see it. Take this as part of my apology Quinn. Your daughter won't kick you out of her life while she is a minor, post 18 years old I have no say but for now she will see you daily as I promised."

"Thank you" Quinn says leaving without another word.
