Chapter 6 – please let me know your thoughts/opinions.

Monday after school Eliza watches her mum get ready for her date and she sighs. "What" Rachel asks quite clearly knowing where this was going.

"Can't you stay?" she says, and Rachel shakes her head.

"Why?" Rachel asks she knows why already Quinn.

"Get to know Quinn with me."

"I know Quinn and it's time you two bonded. Way overdue unless your uncomfortable alone with her." Rachel asks knowing Eliza isn't.

"I don't know her much still, but I'll be fine I just thought you'd be here too" she says and Rachel pauses.

"Why do you want me here?" she tries instead she needed to know what was causing her daughter who was the most independent 14-year-old to act like this.

"I don't like Kitty I didn't when we first met, and I don't want her around us."

"Because she's Kitty or because your other mother is now around, and you have a fantasy that we could work." She sees Eliza look down and she frowns. "Baby I love your mama I do, but there's too much damage we grew apart baby a long time ago. She asked for a divorce I have to respect that."

"Fine, but I still don't like Kitty" she says walking to her room.

A few moments later she hears a knock and knows its Quinn "come in" she shouts as Quinn walks inside and into the hallway with a bottle of wine and a dessert.

Rachel pops her head around the door from the kitchen but looks at her confused "what's that for?"

"I figured I'd get our daughter drunk" she jokes, and Rachel rolls her eyes and finally comes out of the room she turns to her. "Oh, wow you look" she stops herself as her phone rings "sorry work" she says picking up her phone that's been vibrating. It probably in hindsight saved her from saying something she shouldn't.

"You haven't changed at all" Rachel adds walking back to the kitchen.

"Hi yes no I'm not going to be back then. That's not a problem I will sort out the Petersons deal over here. Yes, I'll think about the offer thank you." She places the phone down and Rachel smiles.

"Working remotely. You hate that." She adds and Quinn nods her head.

"Yes, I do, but I think I need time here with you and Eliza to work out how we sort this out we still have lots to agree. Including rights and best approach to holidays. There's so much work. But I am needed here work can wait." Quinn says as if she is reminding herself in that moment too.

"Maybe you have changed a little." Rachel smiles softly it was nice to see this Quinn one who finally put work aside. She clearly had changed over the past few years.

"Maybe I have for the best" she says and Rachel pauses.

"I can stay tonight." She states to Quinn as she turns to shout upstairs.

"Only if you want to but we will be fine. Liza I'm here" she shouts upstairs.

Eliza comes down the stairs and stops at a hallway "hey you called me Liza thank you Quinn."

"That's fine we need to learn to respect each other, I can't expect your respect and vice versa. I bought cake for you and wine for you" she says holding the bottle out to Rachel who smiles.

"Thank you. Are you sure your both okay with me not being here?" Their relationship was new this would be a test but one she thought they could handle. It was only a few hours and things had been going well.

"I want you here."

"You want me here because you hate Kitty. That's not a reason baby." Rachel says firmly but also with a softness.

"She's a snob." Eliza argues and Quinn's eyebrows hit her hairline.

"No, she's just very sophisticated." Rachel defends but to no avail as Eliza buts in.

"Snob"

"Liza" her mother warns and Quinn grins softly watching them. She wore casual clothes and tied her hair up wanting to be herself and not her work self with her daughter and she's glad she did after the snob comment.

"She is she dresses like one, she hates kids and she called me the kid."

"Wow I agree with the kid sounds awful" Quinn jokes and Liza frowns at her.

"Really, sarcasm now Quinn" she says Rachel laughs at her daughter and Quinn smiles and looks at Rachel who is smiling really smiling for the first time since she arrived. It's nice it's like coming home seeing that smile it's something she dreamed of seeing for years once she left.

"Stay" Quinn says and Rachel frowns

"What." she says surprised.

"Go sorry I was, I spoke out of turn." Eliza watched intently as her mother's struggled to adjust to each other, so she added gas to the flames.

"Can Quinn stay here for the next week. I'd really like as much time as possible with her" she asks Rachel. Who can't quite take her eyes off Quinn after that last comment.

"I don't want to impose; I can be here within twenty minutes if need be" Quinn responds and Rachel shrugs at the question. She can't focus right now why was Quinn asking her to stay.

"We have a spare room" Eliza says grinning.

"I don't mind of course you can. This is your house too." Rachel says and she sees Quinn surprised look.

"Okay I'll stay erm I need to go and get my things, but I can get them tonight when you get back. You're coming back tonight, right?"

"Yes of course I yes" Rachel says shocked at the question.

"Sorry I wanted to make sure" she says and Rachel nods.

"I'm going to get my other shoes these hurt." She says walking upstairs. The door knocks and Quinn looks to it while Eliza opens it widely.

"First new house rule you ask who it is before opening the door" Quinn states and Eliza nods her head.

"Sorry I knew from the knock. Hi Kitty." She says and there is the moment Quinn sees the miniature her. Because this attitude this demeanor it screams 16-year-old Quinn.

"Hi kid is your mum home?" Kitty says barely even looking at Eliza, Quinn sees this and frowns.

"It's Liza and yes" she says smiling as she looks to Quinn who is clearly annoyed.

Quinn frowns and looks at her. "Liza go and tell your mother Kitty is here for their date. Hi I'm Quinn." She tries and Kitty looks up finally.

"Hi. So how do you know Rachel and the kid?" she asks clearly concerned.

"Liza" she says frustrated that this woman won't even learn her daughter's name. Who does she think she is?

"She's my biological mum and Rachel's wife" Liza states smirking. Before walking away. She knew exactly which buttons to push and how to leave a mark.

"Estranged we've been apart for years just never legally signed the papers." Quinn clarifies and she knows that it helps a little.

"Right, I see so is that why your back now?" Kitty asks and Quinn falters before saying.

"I no. No."

"So are you back for her or the kid. Did you realise you made a mistake?"

That's when Quinn loses it, she corrected her mere minutes ago. "Eliza her name is Eliza it's not that hard to say" Quinn responds abruptly.

"Doesn't matter I'm not dating the kid."

"Her name is Eliza not kid please use it. Or I will start calling you the bitch instead of Kitty." Quinn says and Kitty looks to the stairs.

"Gorgeous hey." She smiles warmly to Rachel who frowns at Quinn who is being ice cold to her date and looking very annoyed. She looks at Quinn and can't shake the worry. Something was off. She could tell and it wasn't normal for this side of Quinn to show up she wasn't like this since they were teenagers.

"Quinn, porque" Rachel asks, and Quinn looks up smiling. It had been a lifetime since Rachel spoke Spanish to her. They had learnt together in college when they thought Quinn's work may mean they had to move there for a year.

"Ella es bonita pero mala."

"cómo" Rachel asks.

"Ella llama a nuestra hija niña, ella no sabe su nombre, ella es interesante en dinero y su appearance."

"Excuse me some of us don't speak Spanish could we translate or speak English."

"No" Quinn raises an eyebrow and Kitty crosses her arms.

"What?" Kitty asks Quinn who is increasingly getting angrier at the woman. It would be funny if Rachel wasn't sure that Quinn would soon throw this woman off their doorstep physically.

"Kitty what's my daughter's name?" Rachel asks, she doesn't not trust Quinn, but she needed to know how bad Kitty was. Knowing Liza's name should have been simple as Rachel was sure it's all she ever spoke about on their dates.

"Louise" she says, and Quinn rolls her eyes.

"I don't want her around our daughter. I would like her not to come around" Quinn says, and Rachel looks up surprised at her bluntness. Quinn had for years been the one to walk away not argue be calm Rachel had been the off the handle one, in their adult life oh how times had changed. They had both changed.

"I will get to know her this is only our fourth date it's no big deal. Kids love me." The woman said smiling at Eliza. She scowled back and looked at Rachel hoping she wouldn't be shouted at.

"Stay in tonight watch a movie with us." Quinn looks at her awaiting a response, this was a clear-cut challenge and Rachel knew exactly what Quinn was doing.

"We have dinner plans at Kol remember"

"We could all go, and you can treat your new family" Eliza says oh great another little Quinn moment Rachel thought.

"Well, I don't think that's". She stops when Rachel frowns.

"Who's paying?" Quinn interrupts her "my wife, or you?" she says cutting her off.

"We erm we. I hadn't planned on. Does that matter we can split the bill" Kitty states reasonably but way too late to save the date. She had ruined it.

"Mum" Eliza says before she can make an argument, she sees a telepathic conversation between her parents.

Rachel looks at Quinn and nods so Quinn walks towards Kitty and motions to the door. "Thanks for coming round but we're not gonna do this the first 3 dates were enough. Goodbye" she says closing the door.

"Your rock" Eliza says and walks to the kitchen happily.

"You just killed me ever dating again now that you are the cool mum" Rachel says.

"Kitty, come on Rach you can do better. I mean she was a knock off second grade me and considering you can do better than me you can definitely do better than her." She says reverting to her nickname for her wife, she sees Rachel smile sadly.

"Well, I don't see a que of people here for me" she responds.

"Well, you don't need a line of people just one and maybe you're just not looking in the right place" Quinn says following their daughter.
