Set after the County Fair barn dance practice. Instead of Charlie chasing after her it's Gilbert...

Anne practically ran out of the school house. Her mind flustered with thoughts of Gilbert. Did she have a crush on him? Did he feel it too? Did she like him after all? She tried to focus her mind but couldn't. It was then she heard footsteps running behind her. She spun round. Gilbert. He had a curious confused look on his face and his brows were raised questioningly. He breathed deeply and smiled faintly.

"Gilbert" Anne managed to say.

"Anne" Gilbert answered.

Both were standing stock still on the path. Their class mates were staring at them from a distance, but both were totally oblivious.

"Can I walk with you?" Gilbert said after a few minutes. Anne simply nodded and began to walk down the path, Gilbert chased after her.

After a few minutes of walking Anne spoke, "Was there a reason... you wanted to walk?"

Gilbert stopped walking, Anne stopped too, looking into each other's eyes.

"Um yes... I," Gilbert wanted to say that he loved her but he just couldn't, "Did you want to come for a picnic with me, Bash, Delly and Mary? We are all going tomorrow and wanted to invite you too!"

Anne's face fell noticeably, but she covered it with a fake smile. Gilbert sighed at his lie, why had he said picnic? There was no picnic.

"I would love to!" Anne said, grinning at Gilbert.

Gilbert smiled, forgetting momentarily about the mess he had got himself into, "Great, I'll let them know."

Anne nodded and waved goodbye to Gilbert. As soon as he was out of sight she let her emotions out. She thought he was going to tell her of love! She didn't even realise she liked him until just now. Her crush was unrequited, great. At least she was going on a nice picnic with him tomorrow. She faintly smiled at the thought and then walked inside green gables.

Gilbert burst through the door of his home to find his family sitting at the table.

"We need to go on a picnic tommorow!" He cried.

Bash chuckled, "what have you done now?"

Gilbert swallowed, ready for the teasing. He sat down with them, and the story pored out. After lots of teasing and laughing, Mary said," luckily for you and your little mess, we are free tomorrow. I will make a picnic on one account. You tell that girl how you feel!"

Gilbert blushed, "Thank you Mary, I will."

Anne hung up her coat and found Marilla in the parlour, "Hello Marilla! Gilbert has invited me to a picnic tomorrow may I go?"

Marilla raised her eyebrows,"Just you and Gilbert?"

Anne's eyes widened in shock, "Oh no! Bash and Mary are going too!"

Marilla chuckled at Anne's reaction, "Of course you can go, just be back before it gets dark."

Anne smiled and nodded and than walked up to her room. Part of her wished it was just her and Gilbert. She would have fun with them all though, she knew she would.

She sat on her bed, her mind suddenly flustered with thoughts. Did she love Gilbert? She knew she liked him, now. But love? Her mind went back to them dancing earlier, their eyes had been locked the hole time, electricity surged through their hands every time they touched. Could it be possible... Did he love her? Did he even like her? She tried to shake the thoughts away but failed miserably. Did she want him to love her?

She fell back onto her bed, her face was crazed with an expression that could be recognised as fury. Why couldn't her head focus!

"Focus, focus, focus, focus!" She shouted, getting angrier and angrier.

Suddenly a bird chirped outside. Anne breathed deeply. Her mind cleared. She jumped up.

"I'm in love with Gilbert Blythe!"

In the morning they went about as normal. Both oblivious to the fact that they were in love. Anne got ready, she tried her best to look good but without giving away the fact that she loved him. Gilbert did the same, except Bash guesses what he was doing. He laughed as Gilbert entered the kitchen.

"You're never going to get that girl if you look that much like a mock!"

Gilbert shot him a look. "I do not look like a mock, I simply made an effort!"

"If you say so, but take my advice, just dress normally!" Bash sighed.

Anne skipped out of the house at lunchtime, walking up to Gilbert's. She found herself nervous to see them him which was strange. She knocked on the door.

It opened to Gilbert.

"Hi" Is all Anne managed, he looked... amazing.

"Hi, Anne, ready to go?" Gilbert said, Anne looked so beautiful. He had never seen her with her hair down, it looked phenomenal!

Anne nodded and stepped inside the kitchen, greeting Bash and Mary before they all set off. There was a weird tension between Anne and Gilbert which neither liked, seeing as they were good friends and now they, unknowingly, were in love. Bash and Mary noticed this and tried to get Gilbert and Anne alone, which proved an easy task. Seeing as they both desperately wanted to be alone.

"Oh! I forgot to bring... something! I'll just dash back and get it." Mary said, making something up on the spot.

"I'll join you." Bash said, briefly waving to them and then walking away with Mary.

Gilbert laughed to himself at his family's lack of tact. He was about to say something to Anne when he found himself lost in her eyes. They both dug in each other's eyes for answers to their questions. They both gasped as they realised the truth. They didn't say a word, they both knew the truth now. The truth, they were in love. Neither could wait any longer. They kissed, lightly at first but it grew deeper as it continued. Anne's hands played with Gilbert's brown curls and Gilbert's grasped her waist tightly, pulling her in close to him. It was almost never ending, each second it was like they found out something knew about one and other. The only reason the kiss stopped was bash's sudden clapping and cheering. They both jumped up.

"Our plan worked I see!" Bash smirked. Mary laughed.
