I Believe I Can Fly

Meredith Grey is a first-year student at Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry who falls deeply, and madly in love with the Ravenclaw Quidditch star, Addison Montgomery.

Chapter 1: Great Expectations

The first time that Meredith Grey performs magic by accident, her mother isn't even thrilled, she's merely relieved.

She's already decided that her daughter will be following in her footsteps as a witch, and she's brushed aside all of her muggle father Thatcher Grey's concerns about Meredith being too young to attend boarding school at the tender age of eleven.

Forever the academic that she is, Ellis Grey takes Meredith immediately to Diagon Alley, where she fits her with robes and a hat, loads her up with all of the first-year required textbooks, and has her choose wand (read: have a wand choose her, as Ollivander mentions. "The wand chooses the wizard, Meredith").

The last stop on their way just happens to be "Quality Quidditch Supplies," in which Ellis Grey has her go in, and admire the quaffles, bludgers, golden snitches, and of course, various broomsticks, even though Meredith will only be allowed to use the school broomsticks for her early years at the school.

Ellis seems very convinced that Meredith will take a liking to the sport, although Meredith herself is rather wary of it, and decides that she'd rather spend her time in the potions lab.

"Can I go shopping by myself for a while?" Meredith asks her mother eagerly, as she sees groups of children of all ages roaming around the enchanting streets in search of their back-to-school materials.

"Not now, Meredith. We've only got another ten minutes before I'd best be apparating myself back to work. You'll have to come back later to peruse the rest of the street," says Ellis.

"Yes, mom," Meredith sighs, as she takes her mother's hand, and they disappear from Diagon Alley, and reappear at their home in Boston.

"Now, put your things away, and start reading your textbooks. No daughter of mine will be falling behind on her first day of classes," says Ellis.

"Of course," Meredith smiles through her teeth, as she arranges her new stack of books on her bookshelf.

Despite all of the pressure that she's experiencing from her mother, she's rather pleased with her future prospects. Everyone she's grown up with has always worked at Hogwarts, or at the very least, been celebrated there, and she'll be damned if she doesn't get to experience the world of witchcraft & wizardry through her very own eyes.
