Chapter 7: Legends

The next people to greet the new arrivals to Ravenclaw house aren't even 'people,' at all; they are ghosts.

"Hello, welcome to Ravenclaw," the ghosts float by, whirring over their heads, dangling down from the ceiling, and emerging from under the tables.

"Hello-" Meredith and Cristina say to the ghosts, politely.

It's over dessert when Meredith finally catches another glimpse of the redhead girl from the train station earlier.

"Hi, my name is Addison Montgomery, and I'm the keeper for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, and this is Callie Torres, one of the Ravenclaw beaters. Let us know if you have any questions about it," Addison smiles.

Meredith looks up at the girl- Addison Montgomery, who is still smiling and now she's looking at her, and Meredith is practically melting.

Cristina breaks the silence, and she asks the girls some technical questions about the sport, and the rules, while Meredith continues to ogle Addison.

"And do you have any questions?" Addison eventually interrupts Cristina, after her seventh question.

"Uh-" Meredith snaps back to herself. "I umm-" Meredith fumbles. "So do you really fly?" Meredith asks her, and then she blushes, because she realizes that that is a stupid question.

Addison smiles at her though, and she chuckles.

"Yes, I do really fly. We all do," Addison nods at her.

"That's so cool-" Meredith blurts out. "I mean, I've been flying maybe once with my mom, but I've never flown by myself, so I'm nervous, I mean, what if I hit anything. Do you bump into things? Probably not…" Meredith rambles.

"It takes practice," Addison says kindly.

"Thanks!" Meredith grins.

"Hey Montgomery, Professor Grey is looking for us, something about Quidditch tryouts-" Callie eventually interrupts Addison.

"Okay we'll see you around then-" says Addison, waving as she follows Callie to speak to Ellis Grey.

"Bye-" Meredith waves, still starstruck from talking to the redhead.

"Those two are legends," says Cristina. "They've broken school records, not only for women but for all school Quidditch teams, did you know that…" Cristina lists off some facts and statistics, as Meredith watches Addison interact with her mother.

"Mer?" Cristina taps her friend on the shoulder, and Meredith turns to face her.

"I wanna try out for Quidditch!" says Meredith.

"Next year?" asks Cristina.

"No, this year. As soon as I can," Meredith grins.

"You know they hardly ever pick first-years, right?" says Cristina.

"I know," says Meredith. "But I really want to-" says Meredith.

"Why?" asks Cristina.

"Because…" Meredith doesn't want to admit that she only wants to spend more time learning from Addison. "It's umm… Cool."

"Right…" says Cristina. "Speaking of cool, did you know there's a student from Hufflepuff who is doing an apprenticeship in human heart magic? Her name's Teddy Altman, and I think she's right over there. I gotta meet her!" says Cristina.

"I am so glad you know your way around here," says Meredith.

"Come on," says Cristina. "Let's see if we can talk to her before we go back to our house dormitories."

Cristina does not succeed in her mission though, because before she makes her way to the Hufflepuff table, Professor Bailey begins rounding up all of the Ravenclaw students, and instructs the house prefects to lead them to their dormitories.

All over the walls, there are moving paintings of witches and wizards young and old. Some of them even talk to the students, welcoming them to Hogwarts, and wishing them well.

The staircases shift slowly, seemingly out of their own free will.

Finally, they arrive at the entrance to the Ravenclaw quarters, and the painting promptly asks them for the password.

"A Hard Day's Night" says the prefect, and the door opens for them.

"I heard it's a muggle song!" says Cristina, as she follows the prefect into the Ravenclaw dormitory, and Meredith follows her.
