Chapter 20: A Thing

Magic. It was magic. She thought it was ridiculous to think that way about anything. She was a doctor for God's sakes but still. There was no other way to describe what this moment was. The world around them had vanished, faded away completely. All that existed was her and her lips and her touch. Everything was her.

The kisses had started off slowly but had grown passionate rather quickly. Both finally letting go of all they had been keeping in. Finally letting their feelings towards each other lose.

Addison let her hands roam down Aelwyne's sides and back. She could feel the intern shiver at her touch causing her to grin onto her lips. Aelwyne's hands remained tangled in her hair and she gently pulled at times but Addison did not mind at all. In fact she enjoyed it. Things kept heating up quickly, maybe a bit too quickly for it having been the first time they had kissed.

Addison pulled away grinning as Aelwyne hummed in disappointment and a frown grew on her face. The redhead giggled at the frown and wanted nothing more than to kiss it away. Just as she was leaning in her pager went off. The whine from the intern was prominent then making Addison laugh.

"Looks like I've been summoned." Addison said with a smile.

"You have to go, don't you?" Aelwyne pouted.

"Yes. I have to go but first let's fix that." Addison said, pointing at the intern's pouting face.

Leaning in quickly she crashed her lips against the brunette's. Her kiss was deep and fiery. Just as Aelwyne's stun wore off and she began to wrap her arms around her she pulled away grinning.

"Can you do my last post op? And do try to catch your breath and calm down before you see a patient." Addison said as she walked out laughing and closed the door behind her.

She never thought kissing someone would be like this. Never in her life had she imagined she would feel more complete, more whole just by being with someone else. She was soothing. She was calm. She was passion. She was everything. She, who had come into her life just a few months ago. She who had cheered for her. Who had stood by her. Who had defended her and taken care of her.

Her lips still tingled as she walked out of the on call room wide grin on her face and slightly flushed. She was a damned good kisser, that sweet woman with golden eyes. Aelwyne liked her and she liked Aelwyne. So everything in the world was just right. Life was full of moments and this one was by far the best one.

-CRASH-

"Oh I'm sorry, Doctor!" The nurse who had collided with her apologized.

"It's alright. Everything is alright. The world is alright." Addison replied with a smile and continued walking without a care in the world leaving a very confused nurse behind.

Aelwyne sat at the edge of the bed still trying to recover from the heavy make out session. Addison had left giggling after getting the page, the sound of her laugh still ringing in her ears. The redhead had asked her to do the last post op but to try and breathe and calm herself beforehand.

The intern was currently attempting to do just that. She was trying so hard to calm herself but the tingling and electricity everywhere Addison had touched her still lingered. She needed to do the post op and also she needed to talk to someone. She needed to share this because if not she would explode. She had just kissed her. She had just been in heaven. Addison liked her and she liked Addison. But maybe it was more than 'like' because the way she was feeling was not like anything she had ever felt before.

After a while Aelwyne got up and made her way to the door catching a glimpse of herself in the mirror. She was smiling and try as she might the smile would not cave. Also her face was completely flushed and just as her smile it was not caving either. She wondered what people would think but then, did she really care?

She made her way to the patient's room and did her post op. She wondered what the husband and patient thought of her idiotic smile. They seemed happy though. After all the baby was being brought to them soon, so it was ok. After that she just needed to complete the chart for Addison. The redhead had not asked her to but she still wanted to do it. She found an empty bed in the hallway and she brought the chart and everything with her and began to work.

"Angel eyes…" she heard Cristina call for her elongating the last syllable.

"Oh, something good happened." Meredith said with a chuckle as Aelwyne snapped her head to face them.

"Oh my god. Look at you. You look like an idiot. Stop smiling!" Cristina laughed.

"I can't. My face is stuck. I can't stop." Aelwyne confessed with a giggle.

"You have it bad. You're giggling like an idiot too." Cristina laughed again.

"Tell us what happened." Meredith came over to her. "Scooch over." She said as both her and Cristina jumped on the bed next to the brunette.

"Well ummm…" Aelwyne began and started giggling midway.

"Ael come on. Tell us." Cristina begged.

"Ok. Ok." Aelwyne began taking a deep breath. "You were right. I was in trouble. She thought Alex and I were a thing. So…"

"She treated you like shit?" Cristina guessed.

"No, she was just cold. Very very cold." Aelwyne defended.

"Ok and then what?" Meredith asked, growing impatient.

"Well I explained how you're all like family to me. How Izzie and George are like cousins and Alex like a brother. And how you two are pretty much my sisters. And-" Aelwyne started to explain but was cut off.

"Dammit woman get to the good part. We know we're a family already." Cristina protested.

"Aw, Cristina." Meredith said a hand on her chest.

"Shut up and let her talk." Cristina rolling her eyes playfully.

"Ok, ok." Aelwyne chuckled. "Well, once she understood the being a family part she changed the subject to try to tell me that she liked me." Aelwyne explained her grin growing bigger and bigger as she went. "But I beat her to it and I told her I liked her." She said very quickly.

"Ael are you breathing? You're even redder than before." Meredith asked watching as Aelwyne's face grew a darker shade of red and her grin widened.

"Oh she's had a taste already." Cristina responded for her. Aelwyne snapped towards her without saying anything. "Oh yeah. You kissed a girl and you liked it." She continued and chuckled.

Aelwyne neither confirmed nor denied the fact, she stayed quiet. She bit her bottom lip trying to keep the grin on her face from growing wider.

"She didn't just like it, she loved it." Meredith replied for her.

"And just like that our friend has been lost. Meredith a moment of silence if you please." Cristina mocked and Meredith nodded in agreement.

"Guys stop teasing me." Aelwyne whined.

"So… what now? Are you two like a thing?" Meredith asked.

"We didn't quite get a chance to talk about it." Aelwyne replied softly.

"Because you were too busy making out with her." Cristina grinned.

"No! Because she got paged." Aelwyne said attempting to frown but failing miserably.

"But she told you she likes you. So… I'm pretty sure it's a thing. Now tell us how was it? Kissing Satan." Cristina asked with a wicked grin.

"It was… ummm it was soft and warm. We moved in unison. Not too fast but not too slow. And it left me all tingly. I don't think a kiss has ever felt like that." Aelwyne said, releasing a happy sigh. "Then it got a bit more heated." She continued her cheeks heating up at the memory of Addison's lips on hers.

"Woah there." Cristina said with a chuckle. "Calm down love bird." Aelwyne shot her a look and shook her head rolling her eyes.

"I'm happy for you Ael. You look all sunny and bright." Meredith said with a smile.

"I'm happy too but if she does something, anything at all to hurt you I'll make sure she suffers. Deal?" Cristina warned.

"Deal." Aelwyne said shaking her head with her smile still plastered on her face.

"She really thought you and Evil Spawn were a thing?" Cristina laughed and Aelwyne nodded laughing as well.

"Why would you go for him when you'd get Satan herself?" Meredith joined in the laughter.

"Don't call her that." Aelwyne said, still giggling.

"But your nicknames accompany each other so well." Cristina protested. "Besides I think McHot should only be reserved for you from now on."

"And what are you three doing?" Bailey said as she spotted them sitting on the bed. All three snapped their heads to face the resident.

"Charting." Aelwyne announced quickly.

"I only see one chart. So off with you two. This is a hospital not your living room." Bailey said, narrowing her eyes at Cristina and Meredith. The two interns got off the bed and were about to leave.

"Do I ask her out? Like to talk about it all." Aelwyne blurted out before they left. Both Meredith and Cristina nodded with smiles and left.

Bailey eyed her suspiciously making Aelwyne slightly nervous and self conscious. She knew her smile was unmoving, which might mean she seemed unstable. Bailey observed her a while and then spoke.

"So, you are also gonna be a headache aren't you?" Bailey asked.

"I'm not sur-" Aelwyne began a bit confused.

"You and an attending. Just like Meredith and Cristina. All of you are going to give me headaches." Bailey said, shaking her head and rolling her eyes.

"Sorry. At least Cristina isn't with him anymore." Aelwyne said dropping eye contact. Bailey knew, she always knew everything.

"I'll only say this once. I'm happy that the shadow in your eyes is almost gone. I missed Aelwyne. I missed my intern. I didn't like that shell you had become." Bailey said with a small smile. "If you ever tell people I said that I'll drown you in scut until you are done with your internship. Then I'll make sure you do your residency here and personally make it hell." She warned.

"I won't tell a soul. And Dr. Bailey, thank you." Aelwyne said with a small smile.

"Off to work with you too. I know that chart is done already." Bailey said changing the subject.

"Yes Dr. Bailey." Aelwyne said hopping off the bed and taking the chart with her still grinning from ear to ear.

Addison made her way to the chief's office, his page had been the one to interrupt her moment with Aelwyne. She was slightly annoyed but still very very happy. She knocked politely a few times and waited for the response. Richard called her in so she walked in.

"You seem to be in a good mood." He said by way of greeting.

"I am." She replied happily.

"Something good happened, I take it." He said with a smile.

"Something like that but anyway, you paged?" She thought about telling him about Aelwyne but she'd yet to talk to her so she decided against it.

"Well I have your contract. I meant to give it to you this morning but the day has been hectic. Anyway everything has been finalized. I apologize for it having taken so long." He said placing the papers in front of her to sign. "I was giving you time to consider whether or not you really wanted to stay. I didn't want to push you too much." He added.

"No need for me to consider any longer. I am sure I want to stay. I am where I need to be." Her smile grew bigger as she took a pen and signed her mile long signature.

Addison walked out of the office with a huge smile. Richard had been so happy he gave her a hug and officially welcomed her to Seattle Grace. Now that that was done she thought of paging Aelwyne or at least going to find her when someone called behind her.

"Addison!" Derek called as he walked over to her with Callie.

"Hey." Addison said turning to the pair.

"Wow, hey yourself." Callie said with an amused smile.

"We heard congratulations are in order." Derek said with his McDreamy smile.

"Yes I am officially an attending of Seattle Grace. Just signed my contract." Addison responded with her smile.

"Addie… there's something else isn't there?" Derek was very perceptive, not that she could hide this very well.

"Well I told her… I mean she told me. And I… we umm…" Addison trailed off her face heating up.

"You kissed her?" Callie said in a hopeful tone and when Addison nodded she wrapped her arms around her in a hug. "I'm so very happy for you." She finished as she let go.

"Addie is getting it on." Derek said in a mocking tone. "Ouch!"

"Shut it." Addison punched him playfully.

"I'm happy for you." Derek said in a more serious tone.

"We haven't really talked yet. I got paged so we haven't really, you know..." Addison said nervously.

"You and my other idiot…" Bailey appeared behind the three.

'Oh god. Now I'm in trouble.' Addison thought to herself.

"Miranda, hi." Addison said, turning to face her.

"Don't change the subject. You and my idiot intern are a thing now." Bailey said with a raised brow. "I hope you know I won't let you favor her. She will not have greater privileges than the rest when it comes to you. You understand me right? She is not allowed to do things she doesn't deserve. Like that surgery you let her do."

"I have never favored her like that. Dr. Neirhem is very talented and capable. That surgery was given to her because she deserves it. She is allowed more than a stitch because she can do more than a stitch. I would never jeopardize her career or the life of a patient just because I have certain feelings towards her. So don't go around insinuating I gave her things she doesn't deserve because you know damn well what she is capable of. I find it insulting that you would think so little of me but it's even worse that you would think so little of her." Addison said, her smile having faded and replaced with an angry frown as she spoke.

Who did Bailey think she was? She wasn't stupid. She would never put a patient in harm's way. Aelwyne had shown how good she was. She knew Bailey had seen it too. Why the hell would she say her intern did not deserve it?

Everyone was quiet for a while. Callie and Derek shifted uncomfortably behind Addison as she stood her ground. Bailey just studied her without a word and then she spoke again.

"You'll take care of her, won't you? You almost bit my head off just now. So you will, right?" Bailey asked as her face softened. "She doesn't need something else going wrong."

"Of course I'll take care of her." Addison said, still slightly annoyed.

"Good." And with that Bailey left.

"Are you not shaking? Because I was shaking." Callie said after Bailey had left. "You just went Satan on the Nazi."

"She definitely did. I think the only people who have realized that she is Satan are the interns." Derek said with a laugh. "Addison Forbes Montgomery is not someone you want to mess with. Ain't that right Addie?"

"Be quiet. Why the hell would she say that?" Addison said, still reeling.

"I'm pretty sure she was testing you. She did the same to me." Derek replied in an as a matter of fact tone.

"I don't appreciate it. Aelwyne deserves better." Addison said, shaking her head.

"I'm pretty sure she didn't mean what she said Addison." Callie tried.

"If you say so. It just made me mad." Addison said with a heavy sigh.

"Hmm. You know my shift is done, you want to go for a drink?" Callie asked.

"Yeah Addie let's go for a drink and celebrate your accomplishments for today." Derek said with a smile.

"I would but…" Addison began.

"But… you need your intern right now to calm you down. Isn't that right?" Callie said with a chuckle.

"I didn't say that." Addison protested.

"Oh admit it. You just started smiling like an idiot again." Derek said with a grin.

"Shut it. I have to go. I'll see you both tomorrow." Addison said as she walked away, Callie and Derek chuckling behind her.

Addison found Aelwyne leaning sideways against the wall next to her office. She was facing away from her but Addison could tell she was fidgeting with her bracelet yet again. She looked around to see if there were people in the hallway before wrapping her arms around the intern from the back. Her head on the brunette's shoulder. At first Aelwyne stiffened but slowly she sank into her.

"Hey Addie." Aelwyne said with a smile.

"Hey yourself, Ael." She replied happily. "Thank you."

"What for?" Aelwyne asked confused.

"I was in a bad mood and you made everything better." Addison responded with a sigh.

"I'm glad I was helpful." Aelwyne said with a smile.

"Would you like to move this inside my office or outside of the hospital?" Addison asked.

"Ummm well I… ummm…" Aelwyne tried.

"Your words Ael, your words." Addison chuckled.

"Right… maybe we can… I don't know… it's kinda late." The intern replied.

"Then how about some nice pizza on your very comfortable couch. They should still be open. It's close to midnight. Are you off now?" Addison suggested still holding onto her.

"I was off at 11:30. Are you off?" Aelwyne asked.

"Yes I am. Let me get my things." Addison let go of her and went into her office. "Come in." She motioned the brunette.

"Last time I was here… it wasn't a nice time." Aelwyne said in a sad tone.

"That won't ever happen again. I won't let it." Addison said walking over to her and wrapping her arms around her once more.

"Thank you." Aelwyne said onto her shoulder.

They stood there together in silence holding onto each other for a while. Addison could feel Aelwyne's breath on her skin making her heat up a bit. She was surprised at the sudden butterflies she felt fluttering about her stomach. Her heart began to bang on her chest faster and faster. She made to let go but the intern had a tight hold on her.

"Wait… I'm making this a nice moment." Aelwyne said sinking even more into Addison. The redhead hummed in response.

"Aelwyne I think we should get going now." Addison said after a few more minutes. She was sure her face was completely flushed. How could this woman make her such a mess?

"Oh right, sorry." Aelwyne said with a sad smile.

"Hey, don't do that. I like holding you. Scratch that I love holding you. It's just ummm… I don't know." Addison tried to explain.

"Ok. I also love holding you." Aelwyne allowed a brighter smile onto her face.

"Ugh just kiss already." Cristina exclaimed from the doorway causing both Aelwyne and Addison to jump.

"Yang it is not polite to listen in on other people's conversations." Addison said recovering quicker than Aelwyne.

"I didn't mean to. I was just passing by." Cristina said with an amused smile.

"Cristina…" Aelwyne warned causing her friend to chuckle.

"Busted." Cristina said with a laugh. "So are you two a thing now or not yet?"

"Cristina!" Aelwyne warned again, shifting nervously and fidgeting with her feather.

"We might be. What's it to you?" Addison blurted out without a thought.

"Hmm well… I'd be a very happy friend. I'd congratulate you for having scored such an awesome person. 'Cause Aelwyne is awesome. Then I'd tell you if you hurt her in any way I'll make you suffer greatly. Then I'd just go about my day." Cristina said with a smile, waved at the both of them and left.

They watched Cristina leave and then started to laugh. The laughter died down but as soon as they looked at each other they started laughing again.

"Well that happened. I'm sorry she's overprotective." Aelwyne said with a chuckle.

"I can see that." Addison chuckled as well. "Let's get out of here." She finished kissing the intern's cheek lightly.

They sat comfortably on the couch eating silently. The drive had also been slightly quiet aside from the humming once a song they knew came on the radio. The pizza came fast and it was welcomed by their rumbling stomachs. So now they sat there content with their food. Aelwyne was slightly nervous, not knowing where to start. But it seemed Addison was ready.

"So…" Addison began as she placed her plate down. "You like me? In a like like way."

"I suppose you could say that. And you also like like me, right?" She responded placing her own plate down and turning to face the redhead.

"What gave it away? Was it the kisses or my jealous rage?" Addison said with a sad smile at the end.

"You remember when you washed my hair?" Aelwyne asked softly.

"Of course I remember. So you really did know what I was doing?" Addison asked with an embarrassed smile.

"You really have amazing and magical fingers." Aelwyne said with a chuckle.

"Right." Addison said a blush working its way through her face. "When did you know you liked me?"

"Well that's a bit complicated." Aelwyne said shifting a bit nervously.

Would it be ok to tell her that she was completely attracted to her since the beginning? Would that make her run away? Would that make her seem even more clingy than she already did? She hesitated and it seemed Addison noticed.

"It's ok. You can tell me anything. I mean I can tell you I found you very attractive from the very beginning." Addison said with a smile.

"Seriously?" Aelwyne asked.

"Seriously." Addison chuckled.

"Well ok then. When you first got here I kinda got lost in your eyes for a second before you told us you were Derek's hidden McWife. Oh sorry umm hidden wife." Aelwyne corrected but Addison waved her off and laughed at the term.

"That Mc-stuff is really a thing, isn't it? What's mine again?" Addison asked with an amused smile.

"Umm it's… McHot." Aelwyne said with a small smile.

"McHot… I think I like it." Addison giggled. And the sound was possibly the best thing Aelwyne had ever heard.

"I wish I had been the one to come up with it. But it was Alex." Aelwyne replied.

"What else do you guys call me?" Addison asked, still amused.

"Well this one I promise we didn't come up with." Aelwyne answered. "The other nickname is Satan."

"Ah… that was Derek. But to be honest that's what my nickname has always been." Addison said with a smile.

"Well I won't lie and say I can't see it." Aelwyne said with a wide grin.

"You know who else has seen it?" Addison asked and Aelwyne nodded. "Bailey."

At Aelwyne's shocked expression she explained what had happened with the resident at the hospital.

"Callie said she was shaking." Addison concluded.

"I bet. The Nazi versus Satan must've been something to behold." Aelwyne said with a laugh. "Thank you for defending me." She smiled.

"Anytime. Anyways what's your nickname? Please tell me it's not sweetness." Addison said bitterly.

"No, it's not sweetness." Aelwyne chuckled. "Cristina came up with Angel Eyes. She says it compliments yours."

"Satan and Angel Eyes. Hmm I like it." Addison said with a grin.

"You really don't like sweetness, do you?" Aelwyne chuckled.

"No… now why don't we go back to when you knew you liked me?" Addison said changing the subject.

"Ok. Umm well I was attracted to you from the very beginning but the moment I really, really knew I was completely into you was when I saw you kiss him." Aelwyne finished with a sad smile.

"Kiss him?" Addison said confused then realization hit. "You saw us… at the NICU."

"Yes I did and it hurt a lot to see that. Then it hurt even more to watch you suffer because of my plea for you to stay." Aelwyne said, dropping her head, looking at her lap.

"Does it still hurt now?" Addison said with a smile and grabbed her hand.

"It made you suffer so yes." Aelwyne said, still not looking at Addison.

"It doesn't hurt me. If I had left then…" Addison started and shifted closer. She lifted Aelwyne's face gently by the chin and pecked her lips. "I wouldn't be able to do that."

Aelwyne looked into her eyes and much like the first time she got lost in them.

"I really really really like you." Aelwyne whispered.

"I really really really like you too." Addison whispered back.

"What happens now? Will you let me continue to get lost in your eyes?" Aelwyne asked.

"Only if you let me sink in yours." Addison replied. "What did you do to me? You made me need you more than anything."

"I should be asking you that. I cannot sleep if you're not there. Which I think you've already noticed." Aelwyne said with a smile.

"Hard not to with all the pacing." Addison chuckled.

"You haven't really told me what happens next." Aelwyne said shyly.

"What do you want to happen next?" Addison asked.

"I want…" Aelwyne sighed. "I want, well I want you."

"Are you sure you want me?" Addison asked.

"I am most definitely sure. But do you want me?" Aelwyne asked her hand moving to grab onto the feather.

"Always so damn fidgety. Of course I want you. Can you not tell? You sent me into a blind rage when I thought you and Karev were together. I kissed you like I've never kissed anyone. I want you. I need you. So can I have you?" Addison said with a big smile and stopping her hand.

Aelwyne did not speak, she just leaned forward and captured her lips, wrapping her arms around the redhead. Addison responded in an instant, also wrapping her arms around her. They kissed again forgetting the world around them. They kissed surrendering to their feelings, to each other. They kissed and kissed and kissed until the need for oxygen made them stop. Both gasping for air with their foreheads pressed together with smiles on their faces.

"So we're a thing now." Aelwyne stated more than asked.

"You really need me to say it, don't you? We are a thing. We are together." Addison smiled. "Happy?"

"Very." Aelwyne replied with a smile of her own and kissed her once more.

And then there were 20. I'd like to apologize. I had a terrible writer's block for this one. I hope you all liked it. Remember to review. And to Bruna and Dgrsa thanks for always giving your feedback. Also Pleasure you cracked me up with that first comment about pretending not to be reading it again, I do that all the time. Anyway thanks for being patient with me especially now as I'm recovering. Love y'all. ;)
