I nodded once to Zelda, still in her disguise as the last Sheikah, and began my trek to Link's former house in the Kokiri Village. Of course I felt terrible about what she said, that I was basically the reason this timeline was doomed, but I felt even worse about leaving Link the way I had. While he could have worded his thoughts better, I was the one who actually walked away. It would take about 45 minutes to get to the outskirts of the forest from where I was, so I just sighed and adjusted my hat, and started walking. The trip was fairly uneventful, the only thing that happened was a Peahat deciding I looked like a tasty morsel, but I knocked it out of the air with my wind magic, and left it there.
"I almost wish I had a sword. I'm basically useless if I can't concentrate. Link and I made a good team..." I thought out loud wistfully. Nearing the village, I overheard an argument between two of the Kokiri.
"Link is a big crybaby, he's probably going to get eaten by some monster when he goes into that temple." At hearing Link's name, I was interested in what these two had to say.
"Mido, you always were just jealous of him!" The girl with the green hair was shouting back at the one apparently named Mido. I think I recalled Link talking about the two of them at some point. Mido was a bully, but the green haired girl was his friend, Saria.
"If he's so tough like you think then why was he crying? Real men don't cry!"
"He's fighting for us all and you can't even respect the fact that someone must have hurt him! I hate you!" Saria stormed off, and I thought it prudent to be on my way to the Forest Temple. Hurting Link was never my intention, though it was obvious that I did.
-Meanwhile-
"I hate him! Just when I thought I finally found a friend who wasn't a Kokiri, he runs off after I just voice some ideas! That bastard!" Link was angry, now, and not just hurt as he was before. He sighed. "As mad as I am, I do miss him, already." Link played the Minuet of Forest to warp to the Forest Temple.
"I enjoyed it when Sheik, Vaati, and I played that song together... Anyway, here we are, back at the Forest Temple." Link walked into the Temple, and almost immediately realized something was off. There were no enemies for one thing, and in the middle of the room was a gaping pit, instead of whatever was meant to be there. Link decided to do some exploring in the rooms apart from the main one with the pit. Still, there wasn't an enemy in sight. All of the chests that, in Link's opinion at least, should have had a monster or miniboss guarding them, just didn't. He found the dungeon map just sitting in the open, and eventually came to a room that looked like the typical mini boss room. In the middle of it, was a large chest.
"I wonder what's inside you..." he mused aloud. Inside was the Fairy Bow, and that was when he definitely knew something was very wrong.
"Interesting items are never unguarded. What exactly happened here? Anyway, I guess I better head to that pit. From the layout of this place based on the map, that's where Ganondorf's servant should be." He approached the edge of the pit. "Well, here goes nothing." With that, he jumped.
I finally got to the Temple, but there was no sign of anyone or anything. I was about to give up and go back to Link's house to wait for him to finish killing whatever boss was the master of that place, when I heard Link thinking out loud, and I had to agree, nothing of interest would ever be simple to get. I looked inside the Temple just in time to see Link jump. It felt as if time had stopped, and I sprang into action, whipping up a gale that would cushion his fall.
"Vaati? I'm sorry for thinking mean things about you, you may have just saved my life. I don't think there was supposed to be a pit there. I'm at the bottom, come on, we can talk about what happened later." Link yelled up to me. I followed him down into the pit, using my wind magic to gently float down to the bottom. I lit a small fireball in my hand to see what was around, when to my surprise I saw the remains of what appeared to be an elevator.
"Link, I'm," my breath hitched, "Sorry I ran off like that. It's no excuse, but I felt like you were blaming me for disrupting the plan of fate." In the near total darkness I felt movement near me, and Link put his hand on my shoulder.
"It's ok. I get why you were upset, but I'm still a little mad you ran off. Anyway!" I heard him clap his hands together, "Let's go kill a boss!"
