Author Notes - First things first: Yes, I know. I have already been beaten to this crossover by an author named watchfullkittycat32, who named her story 'The Wizard of Bubbleland'. Let me justify this by saying a few things. First of all, that story is about 6-8 years old at this point. Also, the way I allocated the Guppies' roles is completely different to how she did it except for one character. Plus, her account hasn't had ANY activity since about 2016 (her favourites list doesn't even list stories written past that date), meaning it's unlikely that she is still on this website.

AND, I'll be taking this story down a different path than hers did. For one, this one will almost certainly be longer. Second, I want this story is be a somewhat light-hearted parody of the original '39 film of sorts. This is going to be a relatively short story written relatively quickly, especially since I wanna get it out while my interest in the Wizard of Oz is still standing strong. I WILL be taking inspiration from her story, though. The biggest one is probably using a whirlpool instead of a tornado, which was a great idea that makes sense in the setting of the world.

I painstakingly drew the page cover for this story, BUT I would NOT recommend looking at if IF, and only IF, you want things to be a surprise. The drawing makes it very obvious which Guppy is 'playing' which character, and that can easily remove the surprise factor. If you don't care about being surprised, however, then you should definitely look at it. Please. It took me four days to draw...

CHAPTER ONE – OVER THE RAINBOW

'Somewhere… over the rainbow…'

Molly often sang little songs to herself as she helped the others clean-up the classroom right before everyone went home. Usually, they were the songs that they themselves wrote and sung. However, as she packed the books away – in alphabetic order – she couldn't help but notice that this was not her song. She blamed Deema, who not even an hour prior decided to sing it after witnessing a rainbow outside the classroom window.

'Somewhere… uh… I don't know the rest of the lyrics.'

Well, that ended up faltering immediately. To be fair, Deema didn't even try and just repeated that first line over and over. Apparently, very few people knew the song past the first line. Still, it was a lovely song and Molly was okay with having it stuck in her head.

Clean-up was never the most exciting part of the day, and even someone like Oona – who saw endless wonder in the world around her – couldn't find too much fun in it. Well, Deema certainly could.

'In every job that must be done,' She sang. 'There is an element of fun!'

The monotony that most of them felt was why Mr Grouper decided to add said 'element of fun' and read them stories as they worked. Today, he was telling them a favourite.

'And then,' He read from his chair by the (currently not lit) fireplace. 'Jack buried the seeds by the giant bubble rocket. Molly and Gil rode it all the way up until they could get inside!'

That story still baffled Molly a little. How did the protagonists have the same names as her and Gil? And why did the illustration of Goldilocks have Deema's exact hairstyle? Still, Molly loved to listen to it. The Witch, bent on turning everyone in the world into frogs, was probably her favourite part.

While she was thinking about the bizarre and perhaps a little paradoxical fairy tale, she went to grab another book only to find that she had put them all into place. With a shrug, she decided to go check up on her friends instead. Hey, no need to stop working when there were more jobs to be done! She looked over to Oona, who was in charge of making sure everyone's belongs hadn't been lost.

'Oh, that's Goby's dump-truck! And that would be Gil's library card!'

She didn't seem to need any help; she was nearly done, after all. Molly smiled as she watched her dedication – that little girl always seemed determined that everyone got exactly what they wanted. So, she looked around elsewhere. Goby was re-sorting the crayons and paints after Oona and Gil had gone a little crazy with them earlier that day. As Molly approached him, she noticed that he was organising them in a chromatic arrangement, just like a rainbow. He even managed to incorporate colours like pink and brown in a way that wasn't too distracting.

'And green goes… there!' He said as he put the green bottle of paint, the last bottle, into place.

Molly giggled, noticing how empty the green paint was compared to the others. 'Ever notice that you use the colour green more than anyone else?'

Goby shrugged. 'Hey, what can I say? It's my favourite colour.'

Molly peered over to the corner where Deema ran her shops. Nonny was helping her by polishing the register after a long day of use, while she was sorting out the paper cash inside the tray. This accomplished little at the end of the day, but she had already cleared away the building blocks and was simply spending her free time.

'Look at that, Nonners!' She said, presenting the fake money. 'I've arranged the notes by increasing value! How's that for organising?'

Nonny peered into the tray, and gave her a small smile. 'Neat!'

She gave him a little smirk. 'Oh, my brain is on FIRE today!'

He threw the cleaning cloth over his shoulder as he swam up to Molly, scratching the back of his neck a little. Molly had known him long enough to read his expressions far easier now, and this one appeared to be 'slightly nervous'.

'I need to get this off my chest.' He said to both her and Goby. 'I didn't have the heart to tell her that she got the order completely wrong.'

Molly gave him a reassuring smile. 'That's okay. She doesn't need to know.'

'Need to know what?' Deema asked from her corner.

Molly's smile got noticeably more nervous. 'Uh… nothing!'

Nonny gave Deema his own nervous smile, and slowly backed away towards his cubby for a few seconds before he dashed away. The curly-haired Guppy saw no problem with this, and simply continued counting her fake money.

Gil was the one cleaning up the costume box. Zooli had really gone crazy with that little lion costume especially, and Gil had to dust it off before putting it back in its box. After he inspected it to make sure it was free of any sort of dust or grime, he tossed it into the box.

'ARF ARF!'

The box that, apparently, Bubble Puppy was hiding in. The little doggy leapt out of the box donning a little dragon costume – one that Zooli must've put on him – and yipped directly in Gil's face. The blue-haired Guppy reacted exactly how you'd expect he would.

'AHHH!'

He screamed and jumped back, landing on his tail a good three feet away. Once he realised it was just his little puppy, his heart returned to its normal slightly-above-average pace. Bubble Puppy saw his shaken-up owner on the floor, and gave him a big slobbery kiss across the face. Gil giggled as the rough tongue tickled his skin.

Mr Grouper looked around his classroom, and put his book down. 'Looks like all your jobs are done! Is everyone ready to go home?'

He was met with a chorus of affirmative answers. In fact, Zooli was already packed and ready by the front door. She pressed the button to open it up so they could all go home, only to see a little guy waiting for them on the other side.

Nonny saw the little guy and smiled. 'Oh, hi squirrel.'

Zooli cocked an eyebrow. 'You… you know this squirrel?'

He nodded. 'Yes. He once gave me an acorn.'

'Oh. Ooo-kay then.'

The squirrel was very happy to see his human friend once again, but gasped when he saw the little puppy in the middle of the room. As soon as Gil got the dragon costume off him, Bubble Puppy saw the rodent and his eyes locked on it.

'ARF ARF!' He yipped in between growls. 'ARF ARF ARF!'

The squirrel screamed – something that even Zooli didn't know that squirrels could do – and dashed away the second those doggy eyes fell on him. Unfortunately, that didn't help his situation at all and if anything made it much worse. That doggish instinct inside of Bubble Puppy awoke as he saw that rodent running away, and he charged right after him.

'Wait, Bubble Puppy!' Gil pleaded. 'Remember what happened last time you chased a squirrel? STOP!'

Alas, the doggish instinct beat out his inherent loyalty to Gil, and he ran out the door past Nonny and Zooli so fast that neither Guppy could see anything more than a blur. Gil only moved a single foot forward before Molly held out her arm for him to stop.

'It's okay, Gilly.' She said. 'I'll be the one who goes after him this time. I don't want you getting stuck in any trees again.'

'Okay. But be careful!'

Though Molly didn't say anything as she swam out the door, she silently laughed at Gil's warning. Not only was it a bit hypocritical coming from him, but she couldn't possibly get herself into any sort of danger. Well, danger that she could control anyway, but accidents rarely ever happened in Bubbletucky.

'Bubble Puppy!' She called. 'Where are ya, boy?'

Dang, could that little puppy move fast! After far more wandering around than she expected, she finally found him yipping at that squirrel at the base of a big tree. Thank the cods that he had learnt his lesson not to go running up trees that he couldn't get down from. Molly wiped her brow – perhaps running the whole way there wasn't such a good idea after all.

'Bubble Puppy.' She said as sternly as she could with her low energy levels.

The mermaid doggy flinched, and turned around. The look Molly gave him wasn't that stern, all things considered, but still enough to make him whimper. He gave her the perfect puppy dog eyes, and all Molly could do was roll her eyes and smile.

'Come on, boy.' She said. 'The others are probably worried about us. Let's return you to Gil!'

'Arf arf!'

They began their trek back to the school, which Molly could just barely see the tip of over the trees in the forest. Geez, they had gone a lot further than she thought. Her pink strands of hair fluttered in the wind, that she could've sworn was stronger than it was before. The branches of the trees shook and trembled in the mighty wind, as their leaves detached and danced around in the air.

'Wow…' She murmured. 'The weather really took a turn, didn't it?'

In just a few minutes, she had to squint her eyes to keep them open against the increasingly harsh wind. The birds in the air flew away in a panic but struggled to fight against the gusts. Only halfway to school it seemed, Molly began to struggle just to move forward. It was just she was pushing against a strong magnetic push.

'What's going on with the weather today?' She asked. 'It was just fine an hour ago!'

Bubble Puppy turned around, and yipped in complete fear. He even jumped into Molly's arms, cuddling against her chest like he were a lonely cat. That reaction immediately got a gulp out of the female Guppy.

'B-Bubble Puppy, what's wrong?'

She dared to turn around, and gasped. In fact, she nearly screamed herself.

Giant.

Swirling.

Like a massive watery tornado.

'WHIRLPOOL!'

Now, she had never seen a whirlpool before. They were almost non-existent in Bubbletucky. Still, her parents had told her a story of a mighty one that hit Bubbletucky years before she and her friends were born. Complete devastation, they said, hardly exaggerating at all. And this swirling vortex of terror right in front of her was certainly what they described.

The wind only got harsher. Even from that distance, Molly could feel it beginning to pull her in.

'Oh no…' She muttered. 'Oh cod no…'

Bubble Puppy whimpered in her arms, and she hugged him tighter.

'Yes, I know it's getting closer!' She yelled. 'We gotta get outta here!'

She looked around. No longer could she see the tip of her school through the trees, and she just knew that she was still far far away. And that whirlpool was approaching fast, picking up all the trees and lampposts that dared to cross its path. In fact, Molly could've sworn she saw Butterscotch caught up in the winds.

'MOOOOOO!'

'We need to find shelter, now!'

Molly looked around everywhere. Trees, trees, more trees… her eyes caught a bunny scampering away. For a moment, she was tempted to dive into its burrow with it. She swam towards it for just a second before she realised that even Bubble Puppy had no chance of fitting. She glanced back at the whirlpool for just a moment – was it really that close already? Now, even standing in place was near impossible against its almost magnetic hold.

The dust and dirt swirling around made her eyes sting and water. The cold wind made her skin shiver and twitch. The thoughts of her worried friends made her heart stop and break.

'Arf arf!'

Bubble Puppy's yipping brought her back into reality, and it sounded much happier than his barking from before.

'What is it, Bubble Puppy?'

He pointed further into the woods, and though Molly could barely keep her eyes open anymore she could see what he was pointing at through her blurry vision. In the middle of this seemingly-uncharted forest was a simple yet standing log cabin. The windows were scratched, the door barely stood on its own hinges, and the chimney had lost its top years ago, but it still stood against the winds.

'It's a long shot, but it's our only hope!'

She took but a moment to glance back at the oncoming whirlpool.

'AAHHHHHHHHH!'

Taking lessons from Gil, she dashed away, screaming, from the whirlpool as fast as she could through the intense winds. The very moment she reached out and touched the doorknob, she dashed into that cabin and slammed the door behind her. The hinges buckled a bit, and plenty of dust fell down from the ceiling, but otherwise the house remained standing.

Molly coughed into her hand as the dust got caught in her throat, but otherwise she felt just fine. Well, physically at least. Her nerves were still shot. Bubble Puppy looked out the window and whimpered, and Molly joined him. That path of destruction only seemed to be getting closer, and now she could've sworn that was a car swirling around now. She could only hope that it didn't land on her little log cabin.

'We just have to hope that this cabin keeps us at least a little safe.' She said.

The little puppy whimpered.

'I'm sorry Bubble Puppy, but I don't know if our friends are gonna be okay.' She gulped. 'I-I don't know if we're gonna be okay.'

The cabin was only a single room, and clearly hadn't been occupied in years. She spotted a bed in the corner, one riddled with dust but no less comfy looking. With a shrug, she settled herself down on the soft and squeaky mattress. Merely sitting on it kicked up more than enough dust to give her a sneezing fit, but still she rested on it. Bubble Puppy hopped into her lap, whimpering.

'There's nothing we can do, Bubble Puppy. We can only wait and hope…'

She looked down at the little canine in her lap for just one second too long. The powerful winds just outside the door pushed one of the windows off its hinges…

*WHACK*

'AAH!'

And it slammed into the back of her head.

'YIP!'

The force of it was enough to knock her off the bed, and she fell to the floor.

Unconscious.

Author Notes - Though this will, for the most part, be a more light-hearted retelling of the story, there will still be some drama involved. As for why I went with something a bit more parodic, it's simply because I know that I won't be able to recreate the magic of the original movie. I do feel like I'm talented enough to create something in the ballpark, but it's the kind of magic that's really 'lightning-in-a-bottle'. So, instead of trying to achieve something that isn't happening, I'm going down a different path instead.

By the way, we won't have full-on musical numbers like in the original, but I will be throwing in references to the songs in the dialogue. At some point, I'll need to Google some of the lyrics cos I barely remember anything from the Scarecrow's song.
