Purgatory, Again!
"That's everyone we have ever known," Prime Kara said, looking up at the sky above Purgatory where they currently were; her Barry put an arm around her. He had chased after Karry Barry, who had chased after Rae, and his Kara had followed, but when his Kara had reached him, both had stopped, observing the impossible above them – the skies full of lost souls. "We need to get back to the mission. We have to bring them back."
"We do," Barry said, determined himself. "We need to find Rae and Karry Barry, bring them back to Oliver."
"You know, if you hadn't ran off to begin with…" Kara started, but was saved the rest of her mockery by a new voice.
"Barry?" Both turned to see a familiar blonde man standing before them; a smile came upon Barry's face, though.
"Eddie?" Barry said, moving forward holding out a hand, Eddie Thawne taking it as the two smiled at one another.
"I never thought I'd see you again," Eddie said.
"Same here," Barry reasoned.
"Um… Barry," Prime Kara said, confused and Barry turned, feeling his wife's confusion, and puzzled himself before he realized that Kara wasn't around when Eddie was, and she hadn't met an alternate. "Who…?" She indicated Eddie, who raised an eyebrow.
"Oh sorry, Kara, this is Eddie Thawne, Iris's late fiancée. Eddie, this is my wife Kara WellsAllen," Barry said
"Wife?" Eddie said, eyebrows raised. "So, you didn't end up with Iris?"
"No," Barry said shaking his head. "I don't think the Speed Force would have let me." Barry smiled to himself as he put an arm around Kara. "Kara here is the love of my life. And an alien."
"I'm happy for you," Eddie said, seeing the real smile on Barry's face – the Barry he remembered had been so hung up over Iris, so lost over his mother death, Eddie was unsure he had ever seen Barry actually happy before. "I'm a little relieved but also sad. If you had ended up with Iris, I know she would have been protected and safe."
"Iris doesn't need a man to make her safe. She's strong," Kara said seeing Eddie was feeling guilty over leaving Eddie.
"And she sort of does have a man," Barry mused.
"She has this thing with Cat Grant's son, Adam," Kara pointed out.
"We really don't know where it is going," Barry added with a shrug. "But she has a great job and she's happy. She misses you, I know, but she's good – well once we bring back everything, she's good."
"You don't know what a relief that is. I was tempted to find her above," he referenced the uncountable lost souls floating above Purgatory, "but now… well, thank you," Eddie said and smiled once more – then he turned to white light and disappeared.
"What just happened…?" Kara asked, and Barry shrugged.
"He moved on," it was Oliver who spoke, walking into the clearing with Rae, Kayla, Clark, and SuperEarth Kara. "You relieved his guilt over leaving Iris. He was finally able to go to heaven. Eddie Thawne of Prime is alright."
"Well, shooting himself wasn't the best move," Barry mused thoughtfully. "But I suppose it all worked out. Rae, why did you run?"
"I had to… I thought… well, it doesn't matter now," Rae stated, going red in face a little at her being the initial cause of the group splitting up here.
"Well, it seems we're still missing Karry and Mon?" Prime Kara stated, looking over the group.
"Karry, yes, they are a tricky one. Besides the spirits who I can't track, who else do they have here that would be attracted to them?" Oliver mused. "Most everyone who died on their world has moved onto heaven already."
"Perfect world," Prime Barry mumbled for his Kara to slightly elbow him.
"Oh, I know," Oliver stated, giving a slight chuckle. "I know who will go to them. A very popular frienemy."
"Frienemy?" Several of the Paragons asked, confused.
"I think I know who he means," Rae said, giving a small laugh herself.
-Crisis on Infinite Millma Earth-
Karry Barry had gotten lost upon initially following Rae, and upon doubling back, had found himself alone on the beach – but he had been joined by Kara almost instantly.
Now both were standing with the ocean before them, tears in their eyes – they could hear Star and Romana calling for them; their daughter wanted them to save them, and they were powerless. There were others too: Amelia, Caitlin, and everyone else but it was their girls cries they heard the most. They were also confused about why they did not hear Alura and Nora call for them.
We need to bring them back, Kara finally thought with determination.
We will, Barry thought back decisively.
"I should have known when the world went crazy you two would show up," the two turned at the voice, seeing a man they saw often, but this was their original version. In the outfit he died in, with his cold gun by his side, was Leonard Snart himself.
"Snart," the two said together.
"If it isn't Karry themselves," Snart said, removing his hood.
"You're here," Barry said, frowning, "in Purgatory?"
"Well, you know how it goes. You're bad in life – steal and murder – but then you turn over a new leaf and help save the world. Die doing it and your soul is regulated to Purgatory for the rest of eternity," Snart pointed out. "I apparently didn't make up for everything I did before I died."
"You should have," Kara said instantly, thinking the reformed villain deserved more. He deserved heaven. "You were a hero in the end."
"Thanks," Snart said. "But the Powers That Be don't think so. Anyway, how is my sister doing? That friend of yours treating her right?"
"Cisco's dead, sort of," Barry said, making Snart frown. "Well, everyone is dead right now," he added, looking to the spirits above them.
"It's a complicated story," Kara added for her husband. "But you are looking after her." Snart tilted his head at this. "At least an alternate of you. Len."
"From my little sister's, Amelia's world. The two were close and both survived their Earth destruction so they both live on our Earth," Barry said.
"You replaced me," Snart said, curious.
"No one could completely replace you," Kara said quickly. "Not even you, but Len is there for Amelia, for Lisa. He and Mick have a sort of friendship. The three of them are members of the Justice League."
"Well then," Snart droned. "Tell this Len that if he doesn't take care of my sister right, I will figure out how to get out of here and haunt him for the rest of his days."
"If anyone could do it, I am sure it's you," Barry chuckled with a nod.
"And go get this multiverse back on track, would you already?" Snart added.
"It's our job," Kara said with a nod, wondering with Barry how they would find the others – but as if on cue, Oliver and the other Paragons walked out onto the beach.
"Oh Leonard Snart, frienemy," Prime Barry said aloud. "I get it now."
"Good terminology," Snart stated, smirking at it.
"Leonard Snart, if you would be so kind as to let your Kara and Barry go…?" Oliver stated at this.
"They're always free to go," Snart shrugged. "Nothing can stop these two."
"Quite right too," Karry Kara stated with a smirk as Snart began to move away.
"Hey, where's Mon?" Barry added, realizing they were one Paragon short.
"Closer than you think," Oliver stated, nodding further down the beach, and starting to head that way himself. The Paragons shared a look with each other before following.
-Crisis on Infinite Millma Earths-
Mon-El had not been drawn to the voices of the dead as easily as his Paragon friends; in fact, he alone stayed on the beach while Oliver went to search for the others, whose draw to the dead had been too strong. But now, on the beach alone, Mon couldn't face it. His eyes kept drawing to the skies above, filled with spirits, and he swore he could hear the voices of those he knew – his team, his friends, his husband…
"Winn?" Mon looked above and around; his husband's voice clear to him. He knew he should stay here, but at the same time, Winn's voice seemed further down the beach… drawing him out.
"Brother?" The voice wasn't what he expected as he spun on the spot to see a young man with stubble and unkempt hair staring wide-eyed at him, obviously shocked.
"Mor-An?" Mon couldn't believe his own eyes at the person before him, all thoughts of his husband gone at the appearance of his young brother.
"You're not dead, are you?" Mor-An asked, almost matter-of-factly, as he folded his arms and narrowed his eyes.
"Urm, no, I'm not. But you…? Mother said you lead a revolt against her and that she dealt with it, but she never said what happened to you," Mon pointed out. Hero Earth had been invaded by his former world and family a while ago – they had been dealt with easily, but his little brother hadn't returned with the rest, and Queen Rhea hadn't explained much more.
"Yeah, mother dealt with it the only way she knew," Mor stated with a sigh, drawing a finger against his neck in indication that he'd been killed.
"She murdered you?!" Mon was shocked at this reveal, his eyes wide.
"Does it really surprise you? She killed dad when he betrayed her," Mor pointed out with a shrug.
"You know about dad?" Mon asked.
"He was here for a while, yeah," Mor stated, "but he moved on, eventually. The same can't be said for these poor souls," he pointed to the spirits above.
"They're stuck," Mon pointed out. "With the multiverse able to come back, they can't move on, or stay here."
"I know," Mor smirked at this. "Although I don't hear our dear mother above…?"
"She… she's probably not up there – or here in Purgatory," Mon mused, biting his lip at this. "I mean, she did kill you and dad, after all."
"She was a bit of a wild card, our mother," Mor sighed, knowingly.
"Hey, wait, if dad moved on, why haven't you?" Mon asked, circling back in surprise at this earlier revelation.
"I actually don't know. Perhaps I was waiting for you. You didn't know what happened of me, and now you know," Mor pointed out simply.
"Death has wizened you, brother," Mon chuckled.
"You leaving wizened me, Old Man," Mor joked now.
"Who are you calling old?" Mon asked, moving forward to grab his brother, about to put him in a headlock, but Mor dodged him.
"There's a few grey hairs among the black!" Mor stated playfully, laughing as Mon stopped his playful attack, knowing better than to playfight with his little brother here.
"Alright, alright, maybe I have got older, but you don't age in here anyway," Mon pointed out.
"Eternally young," Mor chuckled. "Anyway, what have you been up to since I died? I'm loving that red suit and blue cape by the way."
"Oh yeah," Mon gave his cape a half-hearted swish at the compliment. "Well, I ended up on a planet called Earth, joined a team of heroes – I now lead another team of heroes on multiverse shenanigans… or rather led them," he realized as he said it, there was no multiverse to lead his own team through and his team was, right now, dead. "I met a guy though, fell in love, married. You'd like him. Winn. He's reminds me of you a little."
"Wait, you married a guy who reminds you of your own brother?" Mor raised an eyebrow at this. "That's a little creepy…"
"I didn't mean it like that!" Mon pointed out, realizing what he'd said, "I mean he has your courage, your humor…"
"My good looks and charm?" Mor added, teasingly. "Good on you though brother. I knew you'd meet the right person – eventually."
"Hey, is that a dig…?" Mon asked, but before he could get a response, a new voice called out-
"Whoa, whoever that is, he's the spitting image of my granddad when he was young," both men turned to see a Kara running forward but stopping short of them. She was joined by the rest of the Paragons – and Oliver.
"You found them, Spectre," Mon stated to Oliver, smiling at his new friends.
"Indeed," Oliver stated. "And I see you found your brother."
"Actually, he found me," Mon pointed out, looking back at Mor now who smiled timidly.
"Well, the choice is yours now," Oliver voiced, now confusing the Daxamite brothers, "Prince Mor-An of Daxam. You can move on now you know your brother is safe, or you can wait."
"Oh," Mon and Mor muttered as one as Prime Kara, obvious from her white Power Girl outfit, mouthed 'Prince Mor-An?' to herself.
"I will stay," Mor stated after a moment, "only until the multiverse is restored. Once I know this one is safe, I will join our father."
"When you do, tell him I miss him," Mon stated to his brother, who smiled back.
"I will," Mor stated, moving in to embrace his brother in a hug. Mon was surprised as, when he pulled out of the hug, Mor had vanished. Feeling a little confused by this, he turned back to Oliver now, frowning.
"He's still here, just not needed here." Oliver pointed out. "But now we have everyone together again, you must follow me," Oliver stated. "To get to Karry Dark, we need to travel to a certain part of Purgatory. Please, don't be distracted again by them calling out to you. There's nothing you can do for the lost souls. Nothing but rebooting the multiverse."
"Is he always this bossy…?" Karry Barry asked Rae now as the Paragons fell into line. This was Rae's Oliver, after all.
"A little more now than when he was alive," Rae pointed out as they started to walk. "I think being dead has made him bossier," Rae smirked as she nudged her former League member, who had to smile at the tease.
The group walked, mostly silent for a while, deep through the wooded areas of the island until they reached what looked to be a clearing in the trees.
"We're near, we just need…" but before Oliver could finish, a voice interrupted him.
"Flash!" Rae groaned as the familiar, tall form of her Lucifer came over to her. "I knew I would be seeing you again. Drink." Lucifer held up a bottle of wine he had on him.
"Lucifer," Rae sighed. "The last time I saw you, you were blackmailing me with the soul of Constantine."
"Water under the bridge," Lucifer dismissed. "And nice job getting Frankie off the hook."
"Lucifer?" Prime Barry asked, frowning now.
"The Devil himself, yes. But what are you doing here?" Rae asked Lucifer.
"Well, when our worlds died, myself and my alternates decided to escape – none of us really care for sticking around in hell, so we're partying here instead," Lucifer explained.
"Alternates?" Rae asked and Lucifer grinned, leading them into the clearing where there were other people – many with the same faces. "Some are identical, but there's a blonde American me over there; he can be a bit annoying. Oh and of course two female mes, the Ladies Satan, if you will."
"Well, hello there," a female with tight black hair, in a purple coast came up with a smile; she was joined by a very tall blonde woman too, wearing a subtly revealing black dress.
"Let me guess, one of you is from Gender Earth?" Karry Barry asked the women, thinking he had an idea of Gender Earth now from the rare few times Amelia had spoken about it – and from Claire and her husband, who had come to Amelia's wedding after all.
"I think that's what you call us," the shorter Lady Satan said. "How very astute!"
"And my world you won't want to know about," the taller of the women stated, simply, giving the group a wink as she and the other Lady Satan moved off to join the blonde American male Lucifer.
"Aren't they just lovely?" Lucifer said with a smile.
"Please don't mess up Purgatory," Oliver spoke up now. "I'd hate to clean up after all of you."
"If this lot can truly bring back the multiverse, then we shall leave it spotless, Spectre," Lucifer smirked at Oliver, moving back to the group of other Lucifers.
"Well, that was…" Prime Barry started.
"Enlightening," Prime Kara added, following the Lucifers with her eyes.
"Didn't expect that," Rae added with a shrug.
"Anyway, we just need to cross this field," Oliver said to the Paragons, the group walking passed more Lucifers now – some seemed to be passed out drunk already, while others were still drinking or partying. A couple were singing 'Wicked Game' together in perfect harmony.
"How does God and Lucifer fit in with the history of the universe we have been told?" Prime Barry asked, and the other Paragons frowned, not having thought of that.
"Some things are far too complicated to explain," Oliver said cryptically as he led them to a very large, thick oak tree. "Now… this is where we can go to Earth Zero, or Karry Dark."
"Do we really need to call it that?" Karry Barry asked as the Paragons turned to look at him. "Karry Dark..." He frowned but smiled as his Kara kissed his cheek.
"So, it's about this tree?" Kayla asked, observing the thick oak with critique and ignoring Karry's Barry's request.
"Yes. This is the spot connected to Karry Dark," Oliver explained. "Where souls from Karry Dark would enter and then explore Purgatory."
"Through a tree?" Kayla stated, trying to confirm this.
"Through a tree," Oliver nodded. "Now we need to go through…" he held out his hand and pushed at the tree, and to their surprise, a door seemed to open in it. "Come," Oliver stepped into the tree; the others paused for a fraction of a moment before following him in.
Rae's world Lucifer had followed them, to a certain extent, and watched them leave, curious as to their plans.
"Well, good luck Flash," Lucifer muttered, holding up his drink. "This one is for all of you..." with that, he drank his wine and then returned to his alternates.
-Crisis on Infinite Millma Earths-
Oliver and the Paragons appeared on the street of the familiar National City, shocked to see it so normal.
"Oh, fresh air!" Prime Barry cried, taking in a deep breath. It felt good to breathe in air – the Vanishing Points had had a musky feel to it, while Purgatory... that was hard to describe, but it wasn't typical air that he had known.
"The sun!" Clark commented; the Kryptonians hadn't been sure why their powers did not run out being out of yellow sun so long – their best guess was the Vanishing Point having stopped their clocks, keeping the powers they had the moment they had arrived. It explained why they weren't as hungry while there, although the snacks given to Rae and Prime Barry had helped them some.
"I never thought I would miss the sound of traffic," Rae added.
"But I think we kind of stick out like a sore thumb," Mon pointed out, the whole group of them being in their superhero outfits of varying arrays.
"We look like we're shooting some bad superhero movie or show," Kayla pointed out, chuckling to herself at this.
"Regardless, we need to find this Earth's Barry," Oliver spoke up. "Like I said before, he is connected both to our Speed Force and the Speed Force of the multiverse this Earth exists between – known as the Still Force, ironically. He is powerful, this Barry. He and Rae will break open the door to our Speed Force to let you all in."
"You mentioned this already," SuperEarth Kara pointed out.
"But we better do it fast," Oliver said, ignoring Kara's comment, "before the Anti-Monitor senses you..." all of them turned to look at Oliver at this remark. "Now we are out of the Vanishing Point and Purgatory, you stick out – you radiate the multiverse that no longer exists. This Earth is only protected by a fluke, and he will come and find it with you now here."
"Maybe you should have mentioned this before," Mon pointed out.
"Our very presence here is putting this world in danger," Clark added.
"So, we've got to be quick then," Kayla pointed out.
"Look, we want to find a hero," Rae said, putting her helmet on her head and smiling. "Then act like a hero in their city." With that, Rae ran off.
"Does she always run off before explaining herself or thinking things through?" Kayla voiced this to the other Paragons.
"It's kind of her thing," Karry Barry stated, "and in her defense, that's not a bad idea." With that, he sped off.
"Well, it's the only idea we have," Prime Barry added as he sped off too; each Paragon then ran or flew off in the same direction – except for Mon, Clark, and Oliver.
"They do realize that running off like that is what caused us to be split up in Purgatory, right?" Mon pointed out.
"They're children," Clark chuckled – it was true, he, Mon and Oliver were the eldest of those multiverse gathered, with Rae likely the youngest.
"Don't underestimate them, I learned that lesson a long time ago. They lead their own respective Leagues," Oliver pointed out, "well, apart from Kayla. They know what they're doing," Oliver gave a laugh, deciding to wait for them to slow down before following.
Meanwhile, Rae felt good being the hero again, even if it was only little things like saving a cat from a tree or stopping a car accident. She could hear both Barrys laughing as they stopped a bus from crashing into a pillar – even if their speeding and hero work may have caused the distraction that lead to near-accident.
Rae's prediction was right though as, moments later, another speedster joined in – only he went to stop them, instead.
"There you are!" Rae said.
"I see we got your attention," Karry and Prime's Kara added as one, landing before them; Prime Kara was holding a dog she'd just rescued and seemed unwilling to let it go.
"Who are you?" The new speedster asked, and they knew it was a version of Barry right away; the figure was familiar, and the outfit was obvious, even if it wasn't quite the Flash outfit she or the others recognized.
"I'm your cousin," Rae said, taking off her helmet
"I don't have a cousin," the Barry of this world said.
"You do in the multiverse," Prime and Karry Barry said, stopping besides Rae, both de-summoning part of their cowls to their Speed Force suits to reveal their faces. In a flash of light, Mon, Clark, and Oliver teleported to join them – Oliver having brought the other two with him.
Joining this Earth's Barry, to their surprise, was another Kara, again in a familiar yet different Supergirl outfit.
"It's been a very long time since we have seen the multiverse," the new Kara said.
"There's a reason for that," Oliver stated. "You don't really exist in the multiverse anymore. But can we talk privately?" They were in the middle of a street, after all, gaining a lot of public attention.
The Barry and Kara of this Earth looked at each other and then nodded, indicating for the group to follow them, they ran off, Rae taking hold of Oliver, so he came with them.
The group stopped in a familiar looking DEO – this Earth Barry took his mask off, his suit obviously not connected to the Speed Force yet, unlike the speedster Paragons.
"Hey another Barry Blonde!" Karry Barry said, grinning. This Earth's Barry smiled mutely at the comment.
"So?" This Earth Barry asked, and the group looked at each other, surprised by the nonchalant attitude of this Barry. "What exactly changed for this world?" This Barry added.
"I guess that's me," Prime Barry stepped up now though, knowing what to say at this now. "So, a while ago on my Earth there was this event that destroyed part of the multiverse. During that event, your Earth was apparently moved between the multiverse and another, unknown, multiverse. Due to this, you managed to survive Crisis." Prime Barry summed up.
"Crisis?" Karry Dark's Barry asked, his Kara remaining quiet now.
"The destruction of the entire multiverse we're from," Rae was the one to state this.
"Oh," Karry Dark's Barry frowned at this revelation, surprised.
"So, we need your help to break into our multiverse's Speed Force," Karry Barry completed for the group. "Rae and you running will open a door to it."
"Why the Speed Force?" Karry Dark's Barry asked.
"Because through the Speed Force, these seven Paragons will be able to reboot the multiverse," Oliver stated.
"Seven…?" Karry Dark's Kara asked, noticing there were more than seven heroes here.
"Even longer story," Kayla was the one to voice this.
"Okay. So, why should I help?" Karry Dark's Barry asked.
"Well, the longer we are here the better chance the Anti-Monitor will find us, and when he does, he will destroy this Earth too," Oliver pointed out.
"The Anti-Monitor…?" Karry Dark's Kara asked, blinking at this.
"Okay," Karry Dark's Barry said, however, shocking the group at how easily he was swayed. "You sure you can keep up?"
"I was born to run," Rae said with a smile, lightning appearing in her eyes.
"Literally," Karry Barry added, "she was born prematurely, and the Speed Force kept her alive." Rae had told Karry this story too.
"Good, we have a plan," Oliver stated, happily now.
"Quick question," Karry Barry turned to Rae now. "How is everyone else following?"
"The Speed Force knows," Karry Dark's Barry stated, surprising even himself. "Once we open a portal, you will have access… how do I know that?"
"Because the Speed Force is talking through you," Rae smirked at this, glad to hear it. She'd experienced that type of behavior from the Speed Force before, after all.
"Right…" Karry Dark's Barry stated, shaking himself, "let's get this over with."
Rae and Karry Dark's Barry looked at each other and then nodded – the two running off fast – and Rae had to admit Karry Dark's Barry was fast. She had to tap into power she didn't use often to keep up with him, to build that charge to open a portal on this world to the Speed Force which had lost its tether in the multiverse she had come from.
But, what happened next, she, nor the other Paragons or even Spectre himself could have predicted…
Post Chapter Note: Ooh cliffhanger. What do you think's about to happen to our Paragons now? Let us know in a review!
