The New Monitor and Anti-Monitor
On Beautiful Earth, Kayla blinked as she looked around.
She was in her kitchen, a cup of tea sitting on the counter and the breakfast she had abandoned when the skies had turned red was still out. There was no one else in the kitchen and she couldn't hear anyone else in the house.
But it wasn't looking for Caitlin, Daphne, or the girl that came to Kayla's mind as she felt a hole in her mind and heart fill.
Kara, Kayla thought, wanting to hear her sister talk to her.
Kayla, Kara thought back. No one can figure out why we're all at Luthor Corp.
Hold on, Kayla thought, pushing her necklace and getting her Supergirl outfit back on as she left, flying through the air until she got to Luthor Corp.; she practically lunged at Kara and hugged her as tight as she could. Don't you ever leave me again! Never. There were tears in Kayla's eyes as she felt her bond with Kara full once more.
Leave? Kara thought back, not really sure what Kayla meant, but glad of the hug. Kayla, I am only going to leave you if you suffocate me to death!
"Sorry," Kayla mumbled aloud now as she separated from Kara, who took a deep breath, but Kayla grabbed her into a hug again, although this time not as tight.
"What is wrong?" Kara asked, knowing something was amiss with her sister but not getting what it was.
"Crisis," Kayla said, and Kara raised an eyebrow. "You don't remember?" Kayla added, sharing with her sister the memory of the red skies, of losing her, and of what she remembered from the World Forge.
Kara paused for a moment as she felt Kayla's pain and then she remembered it herself thanks to the memories shared – the red sky appearing and then the man with pale skin, watching as their world was destroyed. "Oh Kayla…" Kara moaned, not wanting to have to ever picture what losing her sister would feel like, but she now knew through Kayla. Kara grabbed Kayla into a hug now.
"Anyone know what's going on?" Their young teenage Rae asked, hand raised in confusion.
"I'm just as lost as you," Barry commented, although knowing something was happening between the sisters' mental bond.
"Something to do with their Full Kryptonian Mental bond," Lena said, shaking her head.
"Oh, Krypto get over here!" Kayla said, bending down after she and Kara were done hugging each other and Krypto, who had been hanging back, jumped on her, letting her hug him. "You're such a good boy," Kayla kissed his fur as he licked her face, and then noticed Caitlin watching.
Kiss your wife, Kara thought, and Kayla didn't need to be told again as she jumped up and kissed Caitlin. Caitlin didn't argue as she kissed Kayla back.
"Hey, does anyone know what's going on?" Daphne asked, walking in with Marley, Ruby, Topar, and Harrison Wells, who had been watching the kids. "We were…"
"Little Gem, Marley!" Kayla called, rushing over, and picking both girls up, kissing them both. "Oh, Topar hug my legs." Topar blinked but shrugged and hugged his aunt's legs. "I love you all so much."
Caitlin signed this to Marley, who was looking at her mom over Kayla's shoulder.
"Do you love us enough to be the voice of Hermione?" Marley said wryly.
"Fine, sure, why not?" Kayla chuckled, putting the girls down and Ruby told Marley what Kayla had said through sign language once more; the girl's eyes went wide.
"What happened?" Caitlin asked, still confused over Kayla just agreeing to voice Hermione.
"Why does no one remember?" Kara asked Kayla, who shrugged, unsure.
The phone rang at that moment and Lex picked it up.
"For you," Lex said after a moment, holding the phone out to Kayla.
Kayla went to grab the phone.
"Hey?" Kayla said.
"Kayla, it's Rae, Paragon of Truth Rae," Rae said over the phone. "We're all meeting on my Earth."
"Okay, I'll come. New Justice, right?" Kayla asked.
"Yeah," Rae said.
"Any idea why no one seems to remember what happened?" Kayla added.
"Seems we're the only ones until we trigger their memories. It seems like the term 'red skies' does it," Rae explained.
"Red skies?" Kayla said out loud and noticed the momentary glazed expression on everyone's faces. "Yeah, that did it," Kayla added, chuckling.
"Oh damn, we all died," Barry breathed.
"Yep, that definitely worked, thanks," Kayla said, hanging up the phone. "I got to go to New Justice. Paragon meeting." Caitlin was hugging Ruby and Marley, who seemed scared the minute Kayla triggered the memories, and Kara got Topar. "Sorry little ones. Luthors, can you...?"
"Sure," Lena said, activating the multiverse system to send Kayla to New Justice.
-Crisis on Infinite Millma Earths-
On New Justice, Prime Kara and Barry were the first to show along with their Caitlin, who grabbed her son Nico the second she saw him. Prime Kara and Barry happily took Skye. Karry Kara and Barry appeared soon after, with Mutant Kara and Barry, SuperEarth's Barry, and Splitsville's Sara, Ava, Ray, and Zari.
"My kids," Mutant Kara said as she took Griffin and SuperEarth Barry took Zane, for something to do as he looked around for his Kara, while Mutant Barry took Zoey into his arms. "Where's Kal?" Kara added.
"Snart said he would bring Kal back to the farm when the multiverse was back," Prime Barry pointed out.
"Then we need to get home," Mutant Kara said. "Junior?"
"But everything is happening here," Junior pointed out, pouting.
"You can stay and tell us what happens then. Send us home," Mutant Barry said, taking his son from SuperEarth Barry, who had only just noticed his Kara's dog present and gone to her anyway.
"Mind if we come with?" Splitsville Sara asked Mutant group, those from Splitsville having had reunited with their Mick and Nora. Nora and Ray even kissed hello.
"Come on" Mutant Barry said as Junior opened the portal for them. Mutant Caitlin though decided to stay with Harmony for a bit to see the fallout of what was going on with Crisis.
That was when another portal opened and SuperEarth Kara came out.
"I didn't even call you yet!" Rae said, having just got off the phone with Beautiful Kayla, but SuperEarth Kara didn't answer as her Barry had rushed forward to passionately kiss his wife, while her Lara the dog rubbed happily against her mistress.
"Never mind," Rae chuckled, just as Beautiful Kayla appeared at that moment.
"We're still missing two," Kayla pointed out to the group, seeing her other Paragons already present - save two.
"I'll call…" Rae started, but didn't finish her sentence as a portal opened and Mon came out along with Kingdom Come's Clark. "I was just about to call you two."
"I figured out you were all meeting here and grabbed Clark," Mon said.
"Guess what?" Clark said. He had a big grin on his face that the group had never seen before. This Clark was usually always serious or brooding. "Somehow I have another cousin now! Kara has a little sister. Zia. She also isn't like Kara. She didn't join the meta army or hold my past against me while I wasn't there for her. It's… nice."
"Wait, are you giving up on reuniting with your Kara now?" Karry Kara asked, remembering when she had met both of them. It was weird seeing a version of her not close to Clark.
"Never," Clark said. "I want to make it up to her still. I can never give up on her. But Zia... well, thank you," he smiled widely at the Kara's and Kayla, knowing they had to have something to do with Zia's existence.
"You know," Prime Barry voiced now, looking at his Kara. "On our world there are several kids that did not exist before Crisis."
"And Laurel's history is different," Prime Kara added. "Anyone else notice any changes?"
"No," the Karry duo said together.
"I wasn't on my world long enough but I don't think so," SuperEarth Kara said
"My world is the same," Mon said. "I think. Again, not there long enough to tell, just to check it was back, really."
"I think my world is the same," Beautiful Kayla added
Rae turned to the computer and went through it fast. "Everything seems the same here..." Rae mused. "I wonder what brings on these changes? Was it is? I mean..."
"Guys," it was Random Barry; he had been quiet until now, using the system to find his world. "My world it's not here!"
"What?" Several people asked together but then all the Paragons vanished in a bright white light.
"Oh, not this again," New Justice Kara said, but had to chuckle at the familiarity of the Paragons being taken.
-Crisis on Infinite Millma Earths-
Leaving the Paragons to it, Mutant Kara and Barry brought their children back to their home on their farm – the Splitsville Legends joining them, because sitting in the middle of their farmland was the Splitsville Waverider.
"Seriously?!" Kara asked, annoyed at the destroyed crops thanks to the Waverider's choice of landing. "Maybe Karry Caitlin will help regrow the plants that that thing destroyed…" Kara mused. She was lucky it was March though and they had only just started planting, meaning there wasn't much to be destroyed by the Waverider.
"That 'thing' happens to be my ship," Sara pointed out, defensively.
"Kara!" Kal came running up to his cousin; he had El and Casper with him.
All thoughts of the Waverider destroying her fields were gone as she went and hugged her not-so-little cousin.
"I was so scared," Kara said, "I thought you… but it doesn't matter now."
"You're the one who died," Kal pointed out. "I'm so sorry I left the kids. I should have been there for them."
"It's okay. The Speed Force protected them in the end," Kara said, and Kal frowned, looking over at Barry, who had the kids.
"Hey Snart," Sara said.
"Hello Sara," the A.I. Snart spoke, his voice coming from the Waverider.
"Ready to go home?" Sara asked.
"Does it really matter where I sit now...?" The A.I. asked in the creepily familiar drawl. Before Crisis, the Legends had simply abandoned him and left. He wondered if he would be abandoned again now that everything was back.
"Yes," Kara called, out hearing this conversation – it seemed the A.I. could talk to people outside his ship, as well as inside, without needing a com. "Yes, it does. He's not staying there!"
"Of course, he's not," Ava said. "We need him."
"The Legends are back in business," Sara grinned. "Come on team; let's get home and get Charlie and Constantine." Sara walked backwards onto the ship, her team following her.
"You know, I still have the ability to travel the multiverse, Captains Avalance," the A.I. Snart pointed out, using the joint pairing name for Ava and Sara.
"Ooh, this could get interesting..." Zari remarked at that, last into the ship.
The three from Mutant Earth watched as the Waverider lifted up off the field a moment later, and then disappeared in a flash of light.
"Kara," Kal said once the Waverider was gone. "Do I still need to do extra farm work as a punishment?"
"Oh yes," Kara said with a smile, giving Kal one more hug and then turning to her husband. All was right.
-Crisis on Infinite Millma Earths-
The nine Paragons appeared in the Monitor's realm, but it was different to the last time the speedsters were here. It wasn't dark anymore - it was light and seemed more spacious.
"I swear if it's that Monitor I am punching him at super speed," Rae bemoaned.
"We'll join you," the three Karas said together.
"It was fun punching him the first time," Prime Kara mused, the first of the Karas to get a punch in at the start of Crisis.
"There's no need for that," a familiar voice spoke, and Accord appeared in what looked like casual clothes - with her was Gal in his new Black Superman outfit. "Hi! So, your plan worked. The Monitor and Anti-Monitor's powers were transferred to us," Accord confirmed.
"So, you two are the new Monitor and Anti-Monitor?" Prime Barry asked as Prime Kara went to hug her cousin, who hugged back.
"We are," Gal confirmed. "But we're dropping those titles. I am just Gal."
"I approve the outfit 'just Gal'," Clark remarked, looking over the black super suit. Gal blushed at this.
"And I am Accord again," Accord said with a weak smile. "But you did it. The original Monitor and Anti-Monitor are trapped in the World Forge which is now their prison. They cannot escape or do anything to harm the multiverse, which is back as it was - well mostly as it was."
"Yeah, what's with these changes? Our world has extra people," Prime Barry asked.
"So, you two met Cora?" Gal responded, excitedly.
"Who?" Prime Kara and Barry asked.
"I guess there are more changes to my world than I knew," Gal frowned. "But the changes, some of them are out of necessity, like Cora, Kal's new twin. She was created because I no longer can take over the House of El."
"Some of them you did yourself," Accord added, making the Paragons look at each other. "For example, the Earth known as Kryptonite. You all only knew that Kara as Kara Grant, Cat's daughter. When you brought it back, Kara has now never been a Danvers - your changes made her always Cat Grant's daughter. Then there's people like Zia on Kingdom Come" she nodded at Clark, "and other Cora's, not to mention a new Louis Lane... Subconsciously, you Paragons rewrote certain things about worlds. More than you realize, in fact."
"What about Random Barry's world?" Rae asked, remembering he said it wasn't there just before they'd been taken.
"Not all worlds were brought back," Accord said sadly. "My original world didn't make it."
"But... how?" Kayla asked as Karry Barry went and hugged Accord at this.
"Although not all worlds reformed at the same time, some simply didn't survive the return," Gal explained now. "But this isn't like they never existed - as they did, but they don't now."
"You're not the first Amelia to lose their world," Karry Barry whispered as the other Paragons were lost for words on how they weren't as successful as they'd hoped.
"If you need a place to hang, we have room," Prime Barry voiced now.
"Thanks," Accord said with a smile to the Paragons. "But that won't be necessary. I was hoping getting you nine together again could do something, but I realize now there is nothing. The worlds that did not make it back were not strong enough to return."
"That includes Accord's original world, Random Barry's world, many Wells Earths and several others you'll have to discover for yourselves. Oh, but Dark and Lantern are gone too," Gal added, glancing at the Karry duo, Prime Barry and Rae; Karry Barry and Kara gave a nod, they having been the ones to discover Dark was gone initially as Prime Barry and Rae sighed. Their failure at Lantern had stuck. "There are more but they are not important to this discussion. Just know there might be extra stranded hanging around, needing help - and that Random Barry, as you call him, has friends lost out there, who need to be found."
"Hey, what world was yours?" Rae now asked, looking at Accord. "I never got to ask before."
"Paranormal," Accord said.
"What?! After my dad died to save that world? After I nearly died to save that world multiple times? I can't believe this..." Rae said, anger her in voice.
Everyone stared at her at this. "It's actually nice to know she cares," Accord said, surprised, knowing the conflict her world had with Rae's world. "But Crisis was much much bigger than your dad or yourself."
"Yeah... I know," Rae now added sheepishly, still shocked that Paranormal was gone.
"So, what are you two going to do know?" SuperEarth Kara asked, having remained quiet until that moment.
"We have a job to do," Gal said.
"We keep order in the multiverse now," Accord added.
"Wait, does that mean you're just... gone?" Prime Kara asked her cousin, confused by this.
"Hey, don't look so sad," Gal said, putting a hand on his Kara's shoulder now. "You saved me, Kara. Without this, I would forever be the Anti-Monitor's slave. And I'll be around. This isn't goodbye - to any of you."
"From either of us," Accord added with a smile.
"Tell my parents what I am doing and what happened," Gal added to Kara. "They'll be a little confused on how I left things though," Prime Kara raised an eyebrow at this.
"We'll see you soon Paragons," Accord smirked and snapped her fingers, and just as suddenly as they were taken, the Paragons were back in New Justice's Home Base.
"Welcome back. What did the Monitor want?" New Justice Kara asked. "Do I need to punch him again?"
"Well, the Monitor is now a her," Kingdom Come Clark said with a smile, confusing everyone. "I guess we should fill them in." The other Paragons nodded as they began their tale about the new multiverse and the new Monitor and Anti-Monitor.
-Crisis on Infinite Millma Earths-
On New Justice, after everyone was gone and everything was explained, there was just one more thing to do – to get Laurel and Oliver's child out of the artificial womb. The time was ready.
"Rae, what happened to Olly?" Laurel asked as she, Kara, Rae and Laurel's adopted son, Arthur, headed up the stairs of the farmhouse under the red dome of the Sanctuary to Leona's nursery, where Oliver Junior was ready to be taken out of the womb.
They had left Leona with Chris and Random Barry, who had no world to go back to now, but had decided to see if he could find his Caitlin and Cisco, sure they had made it off the world in time, especially as Accord had mentioned that his friends had survived somewhere.
"Accord didn't say, and the Monitor said he would just go back to Purgatory," Rae said as they entered the room. "But who really knows? Maybe with Crisis over, he finally moved on."
"Well, I could have," the voice almost made Rae jump as she turned around; Oliver had appeared where moments ago there was no one, "but I decided Purgatory needs someone looking after it. Besides, I kind of enjoy being Spectre."
"You've got to stop doing that," Rae groaned. "I take it the Lucifers got back home alright?"
"Those that could, yes," Oliver smirked, but said no more as Laurel had gone over to the man and hugged him. Oliver hugged her back and brought her in for a kiss.
"That's sweet," Kara said, putting an arm around Rae as she said it.
Arthur had walked up slowly, a little awkward now.
"Hi," Arthur said. He had wanted to be here to greet his new sibling into the world.
"Hi," Oliver said. "Who are you?"
"Arthur Queen," Arthur said, and Oliver looked over at Rae.
"Did you forget to mention something?" Oliver asked.
"Oh, he's Aquaman's son," Rae explained. "Laurel adopted him."
"Ah," Oliver said, smiling at the boy. "I knew your dad. He was a great man and is in Heaven where he belongs." Oliver gave the boy a hug, which Arthur returned.
"I think there's a baby we have to welcome into the world," Kara spoke after a moment, interrupting the sort-of family reunion.
"Kara," Oliver said, giving Kara a smile.
"Hello Oliver," Kara said, giving him a smile as well. The two had got along well in a business relationship before he died; the only reason Oliver and Kara had never got together was because of Laurel.
"You two never…?" Laurel paused, seeming to realize the two knew each other back when Kara slept with anyone who could breath.
"No, he was always loyal to you," Kara said gladly, going to the artificial womb. "Ready?"
"For a very long time," Laurel said as Oliver took her hand and Kara went to push the right button that drained the amniotic fluid from the artificial womb, which opened and soon Kara was taking the crying baby boy out. Rae came over with a blanket and helped Kara wrap him.
"You have a beautiful baby, Oliver Junior," Rae said as Kara went and put the boy in his mother's arms.
"I think now Oliver is back we need to change that," Laurel said.
"Technically, I am not back," Oliver said, making Laurel look up. "I am still dead. I need to go back to Purgatory and monitor the souls there. But I can come and visit. I can watch my son grow," Laurel gave a sad smile and a nod as Oliver kissed her cheek. "Name him Owen. Owen Queen. It has a nice ring to it."
"Hear that? Daddy wants you named Owen," Laurel said to the baby. "Owen it is. Hold him, Olly," Oliver took the baby.
"Owen, I might not always be here, but I will promise you will always be loved," Oliver said as he rocked the baby, keeping him for a few moments before handing him back to his mother. He turned and looked at Rae. "Rae, can you promise me something?"
"Anything," Rae said.
"Promise me you'll protect him," Oliver said.
"He's a Justice League baby," Rae said. "Anyone wants to hurt him; they will be met with fury unlike anything they have ever seen."
"Thank you," Oliver said with a small chuckle. He then looked to Laurel, and disappeared.
"I think you should bring Owen down to meet everyone waiting downstairs," Kara said, of the rest of the family, and Laurel gave her friend a smile and then indicated for Arthur to follow her. "That was sweet."
"Yeah it was," Rae said, kissing Kara's cheek. "And Crisis is over." Kara gave a smile. "And we survived." Kara brought Rae close to her as all their fears about the warning of speedsters dying left.
Post-Chapter Note: And with that, Crisis is over… or is it? There's one more chapter to go, one you won't expect!
