Author's Headnote: Remember when I said I'm doing a RWBY/Mass Effect Crossover? No? You didn't read my other works? Well, if you didn't, I suggest you do so. In which I'm going to say, I'll be taking some creative liberties with canon on RWBY and Mass Effect. As for the story, I actually have a couple of drafts, but I ditched them because I felt like the take is cheap and overdone. So, I figured this one would be fine. RWBY is owned by Roosterteeth and the Late Monty Oum, Mass Effect is owned by Bioware and it's creators.

End of Main character status report

City of Vale, October 11, Monday, 3:00 PM, Industrial District

Well... for some reason, Ruby wanted to explore the city of Vale instead of staying at Beacon for today. Ruby Rose, a young fifteen-year-old girl who have gotten into Beacon academy early by stopping a robbery, and leader of team RWBY, followed by Weiss Schnee the ice queen, Blake Belladonna the distant and semi-emo girl, and her sister Yang Xiao-Long. The four of them went walking around in the industrial district of the city of Vale.

Ruby was leading of course, being the team leader... in spite of Weiss' interests. The four of them always carry their weapons with them.

Ruby Rose has Crescent Rose: the bolt-action scythe rifle with medium to long range. In addition, Ruby has a maternal affection towards her weapon, and treats the scythe as if it's her own daughter. Weiss Schnee has Myrtenaster, a dust revolver rapier that she can use to fight like a sword, or whip up some dust magic. Although Weiss doesn't like it when Ruby calls it that. Blake has gambrol shroud, a customized handgun with two magazines that also has a small blade, and underneath the blade is a bow of cloth, in which she can use the blade as a grappling hook and swing around using the bow. Yang has a pair of wrist gauntlets known as Ember Celicia, in which Ruby has made for her sister, although Yang has made some modifications to it. Said modification allows her to fire one gauge shotgun blasts, acting as a ranged attack. While her melee attack fires eight-gauge blasts.

Of course, Ruby already knew that. Given that her spare time involves around tuning up Crescent Rose and her teammate's weapons, without their knowledge of course. Mostly to keep the weapons in shape, although she doesn't have time to do their weapons and her own. She can only be up for so many hours and all.

"So... remind me, why exactly are we wandering the Industrial district of Vale?" Weiss asked.

"Blake wanted to investigate something that might be related to the White Fang." Yang said, only parroting what Ruby said when she started the trip.

"How do we know she's not secretly working for the White Fang?"

"She put 'human' on her ID."

"That just further raises the chance of her being a spy!"

"Weiss, you're so paranoid."

"I'm just being concerned about my own health and saftey."

"If I was a White Fang assassin, you wouldn't be here talking to Yang right now." Blake casually threatened.

"Hey, our first mission won't be until like two weeks, so I figured this would be a warm up mission." Ruby said excitingly.

"We're most likely going to guard some old lady crossing the street." Yang said in a serious tone.

"Or stop a bunch of smugglers from taking dust supplies." Blake stated.

"Or supervise said delivery of dust." Weiss added.

"Basically, Ruby. Our first real mission... may not be exciting as it may seem." Blake stated.

"Shush! Don't ruin things for me!" Ruby hissed.

"Come on, Rubes. You know we wouldn't have any serious jobs until we reach the second year at least." Yang said, trying to console.

The Vale industrial district is a part of the City of Vale, the Capital of the Kingdom of Vale. It consists of various factories, both in states of abandonment and usage. There are also various dockyards and warehouses in this area. This is because it's easier to ship dust by sea. So... it's natural that most of the dockyards are around Vale's industrial district. This area of Vale is also home to various homeless faunas, in which they join the White Fang for the sake of getting a job. The White Fang, being a civil rights movement turned Terrorist organization.

Team RWBY were heading toward one warehouse in particular, last night, the news reported a strange light had come out of the warehouse. Blake suspects White Fang, so... naturally team RWBY went to check it out. Well, what could wrong anyway? They only have one week left before the second semester, so they have more than plenty time to check up on some strange warehouse.

When they walk into it... nothing out of the ordinary, other than the advanced equipment and the strange doorway in the middle of the warehouse. Said Doorway has a keyboard on the side of it. The warehouse also has an upper platform on it with a ladder on it. There are also various boxes around the warehouse, as per tradition. The technology appears to be advanced... if Ruby could guess right, it would be Atlassian.

"So... Weiss?" Ruby asked.

"What?" Weiss asked obliviously.

"This technology looks a bit Atlassian."

"I don't know, this equipment looks more advanced than what I've seen back home." Weiss defended herself.

"Besides... from the chicken scratch all over the equipment, I doubt it would be human." Yang stated.

"No, Faunas do not have their own written language." Blake responded before Weiss could say anything.

"Do you think it's Aliens?"

"Aliens?" Weiss retorted. "Pleeeeeeeease. Don't be ridiculous."

"It would be sooo cool!" Ruby cheered in excitement. "I mean... just think about it. We would stop an alien invasionbeforeitevenhappensinthefirstplace! We would be heroes!"

"Or slaves." Blake said in a defeatist tone.

"What kind of slaves?" Yang asked flirtishly.

"YANG! BAD GIRL! BAD!" Ruby scolded, and then whacked her in the head with Crescent Rose in rifle form playfully. "Go to horny jail!"

"Come on, Rubes."

"Can we not be visible in front of their base of operations? Let's find a hiding spot." Blake suggested.

"Good idea." Weiss said, following Blake.

"Weiss and Blake agreeing with each other? Is this a sign of the apocalypse?" Yang said sarcastically.

"Let's just find a hiding spot."

"Right." Ruby added.

The four of them went to hide on top of the railings in the warehouse... where thankfully there's a non-grated platform. They waited until nightful. Ruby was watching with interest, Yang was bored. Weiss was utterly annoyed and Blake's just concentrating...

Well... until the doorway started glowing. The four of them watched as interest as two individuals, wearing white hazmat suits and a yellow icon on their shoulders appear from it, followed by four armored figures, wearing white, black, and yellow armor, with the same logo on it.

"It's the aliens!" Ruby whispered.

"Whisper more quietly, you don't want them to hear you." Blake quietly whispered.

Well... the four of them went to eavesdrop as one of the hazmat aliens went to leave the warehouse... chances are that alien is a scout or something. As the other one went to talk to the armored individual. Only that...

Ruby has no idea what they're saying. She figured those aliens would all speak the same language humans and faunas had. It turns out she was wrong,

"Do you have any idea what these guys are saying?" Ruby whispered.

"No." Weiss whispered.

"Nope." Blake whispered.

"Sorry." Yang whispered.

"Well... we got to find out exactly... what these aliens want."

"Ruby, I told you to be more quiet or..." Blake whispered before she heard a shout from one of the armored aliens.

And just like that, an energy shot is fired, knocking the four of them down from the platform.

They pointed their guns at the four girls and seem to be yelling in their incomprehensible alien language. Ruby has no idea what they want, but she doesn't want to be abducted and experimented on, so... she drew her weapon, in rifle mode and pointed it toward the aliens. The rest of her team followed.

The armed aliens seem to be talking toward each-other... and then they appear to nod and then point their guns at team RWBY again, followed by speaking with them in their weird alien language.

"I don't understand you!" Ruby yelled at the aliens.

"Do you think they would understand you?" Weiss asked.

"It's worth the shot."

The alien troops then look confused. Being that they give the look that they have no idea what Ruby and Weiss have just said... and something more. They appear to also be pressing their fingers onto the plate of the armor, and talking to themselves in their alien language.

After a bit... with the two groups pointing their weapons at each-other... one of them shouted in their alien language and started firing bolts of energy from their weapons... in which team RWBY was caught off guard, dealing damage to their auras. With Weiss using her glyphs to reflect the energy bolts off elsewhere to find cover.

"Okay, now what?" Blake asked.

"Alright I have a plan." Ruby said. "Blake uses her clone semblance to get them distracted, while Weiss uses her ice dust to knock them in the air while me and Yang finish them off..." Ruby stated. "Weiss, can you do some calculations?"

"Well... assuming things go all right, I assume we have a high chance of survival." Weiss stated.

"See, I know what I'm doing!" Ruby said confidently.

"Alright, let's do this! COME AND GET ME YA SPACE MEN!" Yang yelled charging at the aliens.

"Did she just charge in?" Blake asked.

"Quick, save her!" Ruby yelled.

The rest of RWB charged in and went to save Yang from her recklessness.

The alien soldiers were shooting down Yang, as her eyes glow red and her hair burning. Firing rounds of shotguns... despite this, she seems to be handling them all very well, but no doubt she's going to need help. Ruby intervened and used her semblance to try and blitz one of the soldiers attacking Yang from behind, in which it did succeed. So far, although their guns are superior, it appears their armor is not suited to fight dust-based weaponry, since it cuts right through and incapacitating them.

More soldiers appear out of the doorway, specifically six. Obviously, they were re-enforcements. Weiss used lightning dust to create various orbs that trace and attack the alien troops. In which Blake then used Wind dust for her semblance to knock back the troops surrounding her, it also disarms them. In which Ruby and Yang goes around and knocks the troops toward the lightning orbs, incapacitating them.

More soldiers appear, specifically eight more, a third wave. In which Ruby decides for something creative.

"Freezerburn!" Ruby yelled...

In which Weiss had decided to conjure up something with water-dust and Yang coming in and using her shotgun blast to turn it to steam.

"Ladybug!" Ruby yelled. In which the Ruby and Blake sliced around the various soldiers with their quick speed and ninja-like skills. Gambrol shroud and Crescent Rose was slicing the alien troops while they were trapped in the mist from freezerburn. And to finish things off... Ruby charged her semblance and Blake hopped on her scythe... Ruby then swung the scythe around and launched Blake in the air, in which she then used Gambrol shroud to grasp on to Ruby and swing her around like a wrecking ball whilst Blake maintains her-air time with a gravity dust clone, keeping her in the air.

Ruby then slowed down and Blake let go of Ruby... when the fog cleared out and it appears. All that's left is the unarmed ones.

"Wow, for aliens they don't seem to have much defense against dust." Weiss bragged.

"Maybe these guys aren't the invasion force." Blake responded.

"Oh ya, send scouts before the flagbearer."

The ones in hazmat suits seem like a cakewalk to deal with. Since Yang knocked them out and all. Ruby still applies her 'no-kill' rule, even toward aliens, so she didn't kill any of the aliens she fought. The team then all sheathed their weapons and placed them in their designated away state.

With all of the soldiers unconscious, Ruby was very curious to see what's under that helmet.

"Ladies and Gentleman, let's begin the unmasking." Ruby announced.

"Can you do it without your childish commentary?" Weiss complained.

"Do you want to see it or not?"

"I ca unmask them myself."

"So... why don't you?"

"Well... errr... uhm..."

"My point, I am beginning the unmasking. Watch as I pull the helmet off of this alien and reveal it's ugly monstrous face!"

And as Ruby took off the helmet... well... she gasped.

"What?" Yang asked.

"It's... it's..." Ruby stuttered.

"Oh my." Blake said out of worry.

"Why are you stuttering?" Weiss asked.

"It's... it's... a human!" Ruby yelled.

And right she was, eyes, nose, mouth, hair... it was fully human in every aspect of their head. Appears to be male, too. Unless this is a monomorphic human-looking species or that this individual only looks human in the head department. But nope. Five fingers, humanoid shape and humanoid face structure... it's a human. Well, he's a human.

"Wait, if those aliens were actually humans, what's with the incomprehensible nonsense they were uttering?" Weiss asked.

"Maybe they are from the world this doorway comes from?" Yang stated, pointing at the door.

"Yang! Don't touch! You don't know what that might do!" Ruby scolded.

"Yes, Yang... it's best if we don't touch the strange door." Blake added.

"Come on, there could be a whole other world out there." Yang said, convincing them to enter the doorway.

"And we have to be back at the dorm by midnight." Blake stated.

"Come on, we'll be in and out."

"Do we even know if it's safe?" Weiss asked. "These guys were covered head to toe."

In which Yang had dipped her hand in the portal from the door...

"the air in the other-side feels... different." Yang stated.

"Yang! Get your hand out of the door." Ruby yelled.

"Alright, alright..." Yang stated, pulling her hand out and showing it off...

"How does that even work?" Blake asked.

"I don't know, it doesn't make a lot of sense, what's powering this thing?" Weiss asked.

"Well... only one way to find out." Yang said, jumping in the portal.

"Yang!" Ruby yelled.

"Why does your sister always make such reckless decisions?" Blake asked.

"She's a thrill seeker. She's a lot smarter than she acts, though." Ruby said.

"Uh huh..." Weiss uttered.

"She has a higher grade in math class than you!" Ruby retorted.

Weiss growled and just stayed silent from the comeback.

"So... what are we going to tell the headmaster about Yang?" Weiss asked.

"We're not telling him anything, because we're going to bring Yang back!" Ruby announced.

"So... you're going to go... in the thing?" Blake asked.

"WE are." Ruby stated. "Normally it's my sister who saves me from trouble, but now the positions are reversed."

Blake sighed. "Ready when you are." She said in reluctance.

Ruby then sighed and stuck her hand out in the doorway... and then went all the way in...

Unknow Location, Unknown Date and Time, Unknown-Sub-Location

Well... the air does in fact, feel different from the world of remnant. And from the looks of it, it appears to be a science lab... filled with technology that appears to be from the warehouse, and others well... look even more alien-like, especially the doorway Ruby walked out of. Instead of looking like it was made of Atlas, it looked a but more chromatic and had spikes around it, the keyboard also looked different. From the looks of it, the room is entirely cased in metal... with white walls with some yellow stripes around the room. If this science lab would be anything, it's related to technological engineering... Ruby had a gut feeling around it looking at the room.

Yang was also here, looking around the area.

"Yang?" Ruby uttered.

"Don't worry Rubes, It's still me." Yang re-assured.

"You sure?"

"Ruby, I haven't left the room nor have I seen anyone else here. Besides, I've only been here for like... two minutes."

"Makes sense. This looks like a laboratory."

"Ya... this room does look like it's more for researching technology rather than assembling it."

"You thought it was a forge?"

"Well, why not? With grimm about you need to be up and par."

"Would there be any grimm in here?"

"You can't be too sure."

Before Ruby could say anything, she was pushed out of the way by Weiss, knocking her to the ground as Weiss walked into the room through the weird doorway, Blake followed. Ruby then got up and moved aside from the gate. Ruby then gave an angered look.

"You should have gotten out of the way!" Weiss retorted.

"I didn't expect you to jump in that quick!" Ruby defended herself.

"The air... feels... off..."

"You feel it too?" Blake asked.

"Ya, it feels... different." Yang stated.

"Well, different air or not, we still have our weapons on here... so if the people from this place come here, we can take them on here as we did back in Vale." Ruby said confidently.

"Well, hold on... I got to re-load Myrtenaster." Weiss stated.

"Where do you even put your spare dust?" Blake asked.

"there's a compartment under my jacket." Weiss said, taking out a vial of grey dust... "Wait, hold on..."

"What?" Yang asked.

"Grey dust?" Ruby asked.

"What does that do?" Blake added.

"Well, this isn't right. This is supposed to be lightning dust, which is refined to be purple. This is grey." Weiss said, dumbfounded by the grey dust. She then checks Myrtenaster's revolver. "Guys... I think I figured out why the dust feels different..." Weiss said, pulling out the dust cartridges from the revolver, revealing them all to be grey.

"Wait... they're all grey!" Ruby exclaimed.

"And the captain obvious reward goes to: Ruby Rose!" Yang said sarcastically.

"Yang! This is not the time!" Blake shouted.

"Guys! This is serious! Our dust doesn't work here!" Weiss shouted.

"So what? We can just head back right now and then just turn off the gate there." Ruby stated, leaning back and did something to cause the doorway to turn off the portal. In which her eyes widened and she turned around and pressed her hands around the surface trying to turn it back on.

"Ruby..." Yang said angerly, her eyes briefly flicker red.

"Well, this is not good." Blake commented.

"That's an understatement. We're trapped in another world where dust does not work, meaning that our combat skills are heavily limited, especially mine!" Weiss ranted.

"Calm down, ice queen." Yang stated. "One of these buttons are going to open the portal back to remnant."

"Ya, which one?"

"We'll just push every single button until it turns on. Given that it's off, clearly it means the buttons would do nothing." Yang, said pushing the red button, in which sounds a loud alarm, with a voice shouting in the strange language.

"This is not how I wanted to go out." Blake retorted.

And just like that, a bunch of those soldiers, with armor resembling those back at Vale appeared... fully armed and facing toward team RWBY.

"Well, I can explain this whole ordeal if you just... let us back..." Ruby offered, with her hands up.

"Ruby, these guys don't understand us!" Weiss retorted.

"Oh yeah..."

However, Yang tried to fire Ember Celicia, only for the gauntlet to cough the dust out and the shell casing dropping down pathetically. The soldiers were caught laughing at Yang's failed attempt to make the first strike. In which Yang's eyes turned red and started to punch one of them in the stomach, and then threw the guy out of the room. Only for Yang to get knocked in the head with the stock of the energy rifle, knocking her out. The soldiers then left the room and closed the door.

Ruby then went to try and open the door... only for it to stay closed.

"So... now what?" Blake asked.

"Well... we try to escape!" Weiss said in panic, pushing random buttons. "Clearly, these guys mean to kill us with some poisonous toxin or something!"

And right she was... as the air appears to be filled with some sort of toxin... making the three of them sleepy... but given their auras, they seem to fight back.

"Great... sleeping... gas..." Blake said, struggling to stay awake...

"How... do you... know?" Weiss asked, also struggling.

"Atlassian... defense... uses this... very often..."

"Well... we need to... find a way... to open... the room..." Ruby said, picking up Crescent Rose in scythe form, and proceeds to bash the wall with the top point of the scythe. "Come on... Cressie... break the wall..."

"It's made of... metal. Sharp objects... won't do..." Blake stated.

"What are we... supposed to do? Punch... the wall?" Weiss asked.

"It's our..." Blake said, before passing out.

Ruby the dropped Crescent Rose, and started to punch the wall, out of sheer desperation to escape, while Weiss was trying to get the portal to open again. But every minute their actions get more sluggish and in time the two of them pass out...

Author's Footnote: You are going to ask questions, and I'll just answer these two right now:

1. The Portal is an ancient piece of Prothean Technology. Why did the Protheans make a portal to another dimension? I won't tell you, you're going to read the fanfic to find that out.

2. Yes, they are Cerberus Soldiers, and they ended up in a Cerberus facility. The reason why they don't understand each other, because it would make little sense that beings from two different dimensions to suddenly come up with the same tongue. So, the language gap. Albeit the gap will be resolved in future chapters.

So... anyways, that's the Prologue of my RWBY/ME crossover. Most of these crossover fics usually put heroes alongside hero factions, but I figured I try something different, instead of with the Alliance or the Citadel... I figured, let's leave team RWBY at the mercy of Cerberus. What will be planned for the girls will be in future chapters, which I will have to write, so in the meantime, check out my other fanworks. So, I'll be seeing you in the next chapter.
