I wrote this in the middle of May and I really don't know why I didn't post it earlier hahahahahaha
I would like to thanks Erika, Henri and Jana for reading and encouraging me to post. Thanks also to Holly, for being my beta on this fic and making all the corrections. You are amazing!
The name of the fic is taken from the song "My Girl" by The Temptations (it's also the song Donna sings) . I love this song and when I least realized it, I imagined this Darvey scenario.
Hope you guys like it, and as always, I'll love to see what you thought.
Love, Gabi xx
I've got sunshine on a cloudy day.
Harvey enters his apartment after four days. It's the first time, in almost a year of moving to Seattle, that he has been away from home for so long. The work in the office with Mike was great and he was satisfied enough that he didn't need to spend hours working until dawn as he did in New York, because now he had two reasons to get home early.
However, a specific case from the office made him and Mike travel to Chicago, it wasn't a bad trip, he even saw Jessica and had lunch with her. But since becoming a father, nothing in the world would be better than being at home with Donna and their daughter.
He finds the apartment completely in silence, something that is unusual for tem hours of a Sunday morning, because this is usually the time when Lily is screaming happily, laughing or trying to sing some children's song that Donna sings for her.
Leaving his bag next to the sofa and putting his sunglasses and keys on the center table, he calls Donna three times, but gets no response. He does not remember if she said if she was going out.
Walking towards his and Donna's bedroom, he hears a sound coming from the direction of the bathroom. It's Donna's sweet voice singing for Lily:
I've got sunshine on a cloudy day
When it's cold outside
I've got the month of May
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way
My girl, my girl, my girl
Talkin' 'bout my girl
My girl
He sees both of them through the glass of the box, mother and daughter completely lost in their own bubbles. His wife's long red hair wet while she held the most beautiful tem-month-old baby with strawberry blonde hair against her chest. Immersed in their private worlds, they didn't realize Harvey's presence at the door, so he just decides to look for the most important women of his life.
Although Donna sporadically complained that she had gained a few pounds and still had a tiny belly after the birth of her daughter, Harvey thought she is the most beautiful and radiant woman in this world after motherhood and he knew he was right.
He loves to taste and contemplate his wife's body in the most varied sexual and malicious possible ways, but seeing her there, completely naked while humming and bathing their daughter, he just feels a huge love looking at Donna in the most natural way possible with Lily in her arms.
Lily.
He looks at her with a smile on his face. His beloved daughter was a complete unexpected and pleasant surprise for both of them.
Not that they weren't talking about having a family together, he more than ever always wanted to build a family with Donna. The two had already stopped with the contraception methods, but the stresses caused by the Faye period at the firm and his mother's death, were factors that weighed on them to postpone this decision.
But the moment after their wedding, when they arrived at the hospital, Donna carried the little Lucy Litt in her arms, and when the contagious smile and lovely gaze of his wife found him, he knew that was time to start their own family as soon as they settled in Seattle.
Arriving in Seattle, he and Donna immediately went to the doctor for prenatal exams and to know what were the chances of them becoming parents, after all, time was something that was against them, as Donna was approaching 40 and as much as possible a woman get pregnant at this age, they knew there could be risks.
The answer was: as healthy as Donna was, the chances of pregnancy were quite small because of her decreased fertility.
Harvey realized that Donna had been visibly shaken by the news, because in one of their various conversations after making love, she always imagined herself pregnant and anxious to feel their baby's kicks in her belly.
He gave her and himself time to think, until the subject of adoption was addressed, because after all, this was also a beautiful way to start a family.
Then it happened.
Still looking at his daughter, he remembers, exactly, almost a year ago, from the moment that Donna and he knew it about her existence:
Sitting with his back against the headboard, Harvey watches Donna entering the room wearing her newest La Perla black silk sleepwear and her usual cup of tea in her hands, when suddenly his gaze falls on her boobs evidenced by the neckline. Not that it was abnormal, Harvey was definitely a boob guy and he loves to touch, lick, suck and admire Donna's breasts, but today he noticed something particularly different.
Noticing Harvey's gaze on hers breasts and seeing how different he was looking at her, Donna asks:
" What? " She says looking at the husband while taking a sip of the tea.
"Your boobs are bigger". He answered by looking at her breasts and then at her eyes.
""I guess someone needs new glasses here, age is really making you see things." She replies by teasing him and chuckling. "They are, Donna, believe me there is something different." Harvey replies with a little smile.
" C'mon Harvey, I know my body, they are a little sensitive and they must be starting to swell because I am close to my period ". It's only when she finished the sentence, Donna noticed that it had been about two months since she had her last period.
Placing the cup of tea on the nightstand, she feels her vision become slightly blurred and sits in the armchair next to the bed.
Harvey watches his wife suddenly getting pale and quickly gets out of bed and kneels in front of her. Taking hers small and now icy hands, he looks at her with fear in his eyes.
"Donna ..."
"I've been late for almost two months, Harvey, I didn't realize it with all the changes in our lives." She interrupted him.
He sighs and after a long breath, he asks her :"Does this mean that there is a chance of...?"
"Maybe a small chance, we weren't exactly wearing protection for a while. But Harvey, it's small, you know it may not be".
"There is only one way to know''. He smiles at her and watches her agreeing.
Getting up from the armchair and with her hands intertwined with Harvey's, Donna guides them toward the ensuite. She opens one of the drawers in the sink's cabinet and takes out three different pregnancy tests.
She had bought the pregnancy tests a week after they moved to Seattle and a week before the doctor's appointment. After receiving the news that a pregnancy would be extremely difficult to happen, she simply kept the tests there and thought she would never use them.
Until that moment.
She asked Harvey to stay there while she took the tests, after all, they are a couple and she was too nervous to be alone in that bathroom. He watched her with a warm look throughout the process. Washing her hands, Donna intertwines them again with Harvey's hands while they wait for the testing time. Meanwhile, Harvey starts to make small circles with his thumb in his wife's hand, he was also anxious about the result.
Five minutes have passed and they look at the tests together, two of them have two pink lines and the other indicates the gestation time between 8 to 12 weeks.
Donna was pregnant.
Looking at Harvey, she finds him crying just like she does, then she feels his lips on hers in a tender kiss. Separating from the kiss, she sees Harvey kneeling for the second time in the night, she feels him lifting her sleepwear and gives a kiss her in the center of her belly, for then whisper:
"Hey baby, it's your dad"
Contrary to everyone's expectation, Donna's pregnancy was very calm, she had some morning sickness during the first months and swelling in her legs, but nothing more. She and Harvey indulged in the experience in every possible way: they spent hours caressing the belly, talking to the baby, feeling the kicks and imagining what his or hers would look like.
"He or she will have your eyes and your smile ". Donna said with conviction as her husband massaged her back under the hot water in the shower.
"She or he may even have it, but I'm sure he will have red or strawberry blonde hair." He responds by giving a kiss of Donna's neck
"I feel that it's going to be a girl." She turns and smiles, stroking his wet beard.
"I feel it too, but regardless if it's a girl or a boy, I'm the happiest man in the world, Donna. I'm finally where I'm supposed to be". He glances at her clean face while passing his hand on her 7 months belly. " We both are". She says kissing him under the shower water.
They planned to know the sex of the baby only on the day of birth, but when they arrived in the middle of the seventh month, the curiosity spoke louder. When they found out they were going to have a girl, Donna didn't hesitate to say that her name would be Lily, which made Harvey deeply touched.
Lily Paulsen- Specter was born in May, with strawberry blonde hair, her father's smile and with eyes that are a mix between the colors of Donna and Harvey's.
Donna is the most amazing and talented woman he has ever seen and met, she could perform all possible roles and jobs in the most spectacular and graceful ways and, when he thought she could no longer surprise him with her skills, he met a new side of her:
The maternal version of Donna Paulsen.
And he fell in love with Donna even more.
She is completely in love with her daughter, loving and dedicated. She's doing very well managing her brilliant career with Lily and he loves helping Donna in every possible and impossible way.
He thinks they were born to be parents.
Leaving his own cloud of thoughts and flashbacks and going back to the reality that is Donna singing to a quiet and hypnotized Lily, Harvey quickly reaches out to his cell phone to capture the moment. He gets a great picture, but the noise of the camera scares and breaks the bubble of the two girls.
Turning around with the most tender of smiles, Donna looks at her husband while saying to her daughter:
"Dad is home, baby"
When Lily heard the word "dad" and turned to see Harvey, she started to get so agitated and began to stretch her tiny hands in his direction, repeatedly saying "dada". The baby's reaction elicits small chuckles from her mom and dad.
Donna turns off the shower and hands na agitated Lily into Harvey's arms, who already had the small towel with a bear cap in his hands. When he picks up his daughter, he can't resist and breathes in her baby's scent, drawing out a loud chuckle from Lily that puts her tiny hands in his beard .
Twisting her hair to wipe off the excess water and wrapping herself in her pink towel, Donna smiles, as she always does when she sees the interaction between father and daughter.
She finally gets out of the shower and is on her way to grab her pink robe, when Harvey quickly pulls her around the waist, making her body meet his.
"Harvey, I'm going to get your clothes wet ". She says laughing while looking at her husband.
"I don't mind". He says and then kisses her mouth chastely. "I missed you," he says, sighing and looking into her eyes.
"We missed you too," she tells him and Lily looks at her father as she could also confirm what her mother had said.
He feels his eyes full of water, so he kisses his wife on the forehead and once again pulls her until her body is partially molded to his and gives her a tight hug with the little Lily in the middle.
Donna raises one arm across her husband's neck, breathing it in, while the other helps to wrap Lily around.
The three are embraced in the middle of the bathroom in their small family bubble. The scent of his woody perfume, the strawberry fragrance of Donna's hair and the baby scent of Lily, together form a delicious smell of home.
Just like in the lyrics of the song Donna was singing for Lily, Harvey didn't need money, fortune or fame because he has all the riches that a man could have.
And he has never been happier in his life than now, after all, he has his girls in his arms.
