Chapter One: The Broken Hero

Piper McLean had always been watching. She noticed it almost immediately, she had noticed the moment that Perseus Achilles Jackson had finally broken. At first, she had thought nothing of it. She had assumed that perhaps the weight of the Giant War had finally taken its toll on Percy. He hadn't really had time to recover from the trauma of the war, none of them had. Almost immediately after the war had been won, they had the celebration, and then the burials, and then the rebuilding of the camps. It was a lot on anyone, but it weighed heavy on Percy.

Piper had assumed that his depressive state, the way he walked with his head down and his shoulders slugged, and a permanent sorrowful look on his features had been due to the toll of the War. And yet, as time went on, he only seemed to grow even more broken, and nothing anyone could do would help. He tried to force a smile on his features, but Piper had been able to see right through it. Though he smiled, it never quite reached those sea-green eyes of his. His once vibrant eyes were now dull, full of ache and pain.

Leo noticed it as well, whenever he and Calypso would come to camp to visit, he'd point it out to Piper, and Piper would have no answer to give them. She had no clue why Percy Jackson was broken, barely hanging on by a thread. His closest friends were alive, his mother, stepfather, and sister were alive, and his girlfriend was alive. So it couldn't have possibly been grief, he was no longer mourning. There was something else going on, and no matter how hard Piper had tried to figure out what it could have been, she could never find the answer.

Not until her sister, Drew, had rushed into the Aphrodite Cabin one evening with news. News that she had caught Annabeth Chase with her tongue shoved down the throat of some Hermes kid.

And Piper had finally been able to put two and two together. Annabeth had been cheating on Percy, and due to Percy's fatal flaw of loyalty, the knowledge of it had broken Percy completely. Piper had never moved so fast in her entire life. She had jumped from her bed, raced out of the Aphrodite cabin, and rushed to the Poseidon cabin as fast as she could. When she had arrived, she hadn't bothered with knocking on the door. She pushed it open and slipped inside. It had been rather dark in the cabin, all of the lights had been cut off and the only glimmer of light had been from the moon which had been at its highest and fullest that night.

It had shone down directly onto Percy's bed, where Piper had found him lying in his bed, curled up on his side, and tears in his eyes that threatened to fall but never quite did. Piper frowned softly as she slowly neared the bed, climbing in slowly and placing Percy's head in her lap. Piper ran her fingers through Percy's hair softly, and Percy closed his eyes as he tried to hold himself together.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Piper questioned softly. Piper had felt that after all that the Seven had gone through together, that they would be considered the best of friends, or at least as close as one could get. They all told each other everything, and whenever they reunited with one another it was as if they never were apart. And yet, all this time, Percy had kept this to himself. He had let himself break slowly, without seeking the aid of his friends.

"I didn't want anyone to hate her," Percy muttered, "It's not her fault…" and there he was, heartbroken and hurting. And yet, he wouldn't blame her. He'd never blame her. His selflessness and loyalty was to be admired at times, but this time was not one of them. Not in Piper's opinion.

"You're not to blame for her cheating on you, Percy," Piper said softly, "It was her choice, she chose that path."

"I should have done more," Percy sniffed, and Piper felt her heart break in her chest for her friend.

"You jumped into Tartarus for her, Percy. That should have been more than enough. This is not your fault," Piper insisted. Percy was silent before he turned his head to glance up at Piper, the tears that stained his face made Piper's heart ache. She wished she could do something, anything to help her friend through this.

"I don't want to feel like this anymore," Percy mumbled as the tears fell from his eyes, "I don't want to feel anything anymore. I wish this would all just end…"

Piper had to resist the urge to cry herself. Percy had been talking as if he had been ready to end it all, and those words had caused Piper to realize that Percy wouldn't be able to stay there on Camp Half-Blood. Not while Annabeth was running around kissing other people. She'd have to do something to get Percy somewhere safe, where he could be helped, and distracted. Piper sighed as she shifted Percy to sit up before she lied down with him. Percy shifted closer to Piper, and Piper propped herself up on her elbow to stroke his hair, "Go to sleep," she used Charmspeak, and Percy's eyes almost immediately fluttered closed.

Piper waited a heartbeat before she noticed the softening of Percy's breathing and the tiny snores that escaped his mouth. Piper smiled softly down at her friend before she closed her eyes, "Mom...I'm not sure if you can hear me right now, but if you can...I could really use your help. Percy...could really use your help."

Piper opened her eyes to look at Percy once more, finally at peace, finally asleep. She reached out to stroke his hair softly, "Everything will be okay, Perce. I promise. Mom will know what to do."

...

On Olympus, Aphrodite had been painting her nails within her palace when she had heard her daughter's call. She frowned softly as she removed the nail polish from her nails, spinning around in her seat to peer into her Love Sphere, which had been her connection to love all around the world, "Why would Percy Jackson need my help?" Aphrodite hummed to herself as she waved her hand to change the channel on the sphere until she had finally arrived at the love story of Percy Jackson. She rewinded a bit until she finally landed on the part that seemed to have the answers she sought.

As Aphrodite watched on, she felt herself growing increasingly angrier. This had not been in her plans, not one bit. With a huff, she cancelled the channel and rose to her feet, "How dare that spawn of Athena go and break the Percy Jackson's heart?! After all I've done to ensure they stayed together! All my hardwork down the drain! And for what?!" as Aphrodite ranted, she gathered herself together before teleporting to the throne room. She immediately called for a meeting before gracefully sitting on her throne, awaiting the arrivals of her fellow Olympians.

Apollo had been the first to arrive, and he glanced at Aphrodite warily upon seeing the look of utter rage on her features, "Everything alright, Aphrodite?"

"Not in the slightest," Aphrodite seethed, and Apollo gulped, worried for whatever poor person had been the reason for Aphrodite's wrath. He took his seat cautiously, keeping his eyes on Aphrodite the entire time, just in case it had been him. He didn't recall doing anything particularly awful to the Goddess of Love, but he wouldn't count his blessings just yet.

One by one, the rest of the Olympians arrived, cautiously watching Aphrodite as they took their seats on their thrones. Even Ares appeared a bit afraid of the way Aphrodite's jaw continued to tick in irritation, and her beautiful eyes flashed in rage every so often.

Zeus cleared his throat to ease the tension within the throne room, "Aphrodite, please inform us why you've called a meeting of the Olympians."

Aphrodite lifted her gaze to meet Zeus', "Percy Jackson wants to die."

"What?!" Poseidon had almost immediately jerked upwards in his seat, his eyes widening in worry, "Why? What's happened? How do you know this?"

"My daughter, Piper," Aphrodite stated simply, "She prayed to me this evening, asking me for help. She claimed that Percy needed my help. Curious as to why Percy would ever need my help in anything, I went to my Sphere to see if there was a problem between him and the Spawn of Athena," she spit the last three words as if disgusted by the mere mention of it, "I discovered that Annabeth had cheated on Percy."

"Annabeth would never do such a thing!" Athena argued almost immediately, and Aphrodite turned her glare to the Goddess of Wisdom.

"Are you saying that my Sphere is lying? That my daughter is lying? I am the Goddess of Love, I know what unfaithfulness looks like. Your daughter has cheated on Percy Jackson, knowing that his fatal flaw is loyalty. Knowing that it could break him. And it did. He is broken, and it is the fault of your child! That man has sacrificed everything for your daughter! He jumped into Tartarus for her, risking eternal suffering! He gave up Godhood, he fought in not one but two wars! And risked his life numerous times to make sure that spawn of yours lived! And she repays him by breaking him!"

"Enough!" Zeus tossed his bolt into the center of the room to regain order within the throne room. Aphrodite took a deep breath to calm her increasing temper and turned her attention to Zeus, "Athena, you know what Aphrodite says is true. I understand the love you have for your children may blind you to the matter, but Aphrodite is the Goddess of Love, she knows these things, and if her Sphere as well as Piper say that Annabeth has betrayed Percy then it must be true," Zeus spoke calmly to his daughter.

"If my son never recovers from this, then you better hope that your Spawn is well hidden," Poseidon seethed to Athena.

"If you come for my daughter, I'll-,"

"I said that's enough!" Zeus boomed once again, effectively ending the argument between Athena and Poseidon before it began. Zeus let out a sigh as he leaned back in his throne, "I believe, now is the time that we once again offer Percy Godhood. Perhaps time away from Camp Half-Blood will help him to heal. A palace will be built for him on Olympus immediately, and until then he will stay in the care of Apollo, who will be his trainer. Is anyone in disagreement?"

Athena had been the only one to raise her hand, still sour over the fact that it had been her daughter's fault that Percy was broken.

"You have been overruled, Athena. Since that is all said and done, Aphrodite, since it was you and your daughter's discovery, I will send you to retrieve Percy tomorrow morning."

"Of course," Aphrodite nodded her head once in agreement.

"Excellent, then that will be all. I expect you all to be in the throne room upon Percy's arrival tomorrow morning to welcome him," Zeus rose to his feet to teleport away. One by one, the Olympians disappeared from the throne room, leaving Poseidon and Aphrodite alone.

Poseidon rose from his throne to approach Aphrodite, "Thank you for looking out for my son."

"He is my favorite demi-god, other than my children," Aphrodite stated simply, "I will make sure Annabeth gets the karma she deserves."

Poseidon nodded once before he disappeared from the throne room. Aphrodite sighed softly before she rose from her throne. She teleported from the throne room to her palace, with a wave of her hand she created a small rainbow before tossing a drachma into her, "Oh, Iris, Goddess of the Rainbow, please accept my offering. Show me Piper McLean at Camp Half-Blood," Aphrodite waited patiently for the mist to shift until she spotted Piper, who had been lying in Percy's bed and stroking his hair as he slept, "Piper, my dear."

Piper's head snapped up, and a look of relief crossed her features at the sight of her mother through the mist. She carefully slipped out of Percy's bed and moved towards the message, "Mom, you heard my prayer."

"I did," Aphrodite nodded her head once, "You are a loyal friend, Piper. I'm sure that Percy is thankful for you. However, come tomorrow morning, the Gods will be handling the situation. Prepare Percy for a trip to Mount Olympus. Gather his friends to say their goodbyes. Percy will not be returning for sometime."

"Where are you sending him?" a frown took over Piper's features as she glanced back at the sleeping form of her friend before she returned her gaze to her mother.

"Somewhere safe, where he will have the time to heal from the wrongs done against him. He will be alright, Piper. That I promise you."

Piper nodded her head slowly in understanding before she spoke, "I will take care of it, Mom."

"I know you will. I am proud of you, Piper. I will send for Percy tomorrow morning after breakfast. Now try and get some rest, it will be a long day for us all tomorrow."

"Goodnight, Mom," Piper swiped her hand through the mist. Piper took a deep breath before she pulled a few drachma from her pockets. She had a few calls to make before she could actually get some sleep.

After making her calls, Piper took a deep breath before she turned to climb into Percy's bed bed, and she reached her hand up to stroke through Percy's hair once again, "Everything will be fine, Percy...I promise," Piper whispered softly before she shifted to lay down beside her friend. A soft groan sounded from Percy's lips, but other than that, the son of Poseidon remained asleep. Piper sighed as she closed her eyes. Things would work out for Percy, Piper knew her mother and the other Olympians would make sure of it.
